Hi violet, my scan's on Thursday. Currently having quite a lot of sharp mid-abdominal pains so I'm keen to check whether everything's OK!

Violet87 · 10/08/2015 21:23

It's so nerve racking isn't it! Is this your first baby? Got my fingers crossed for youFlowers

Ohjellybelly · 10/08/2015 21:31

I've got my scan tomorrow afternoon. I feel both nervous and excited. I know what to expect, I've done this loads of times before, but now I'm over 35.
That '35+' thing was mentioned to me by the midwife with regards to being at an increased risk of many things. She completed her little checklist in the back of the notes and being 35+ earnt me a point, which along with two other points, mean that I get consultant care.

I'm more aware of what can be noticed and what can go wrong at the 12 week scan and that's just taking the shine off of it a little bit.
How I miss being as blissfully unaware as I was during the first pregnancy!

Violet87 · 10/08/2015 21:59

I don't remember being this panicky about everything so petrified of something going wrong with DS he is nearly 8 so I think you worry more as you get older and you know what there is up for grabs so to speak second time round! Good luck for tomorrow!

NoMontagues · 10/08/2015 22:19

Hi violet it's funny I was just thinking this morning about how much less worried I was during my first pregnancy. Although it was 15 years ago < strokes beard > and I didn't have access to the Internet at the time and no google and whatnot.

But even despite that I think I was just more confident in general. I hadn't a clue, basically. It was blissful Grin

ATrueNerd · 11/08/2015 00:40

My scan is tomorrow too Jelly, I'm so worried, can't sleep! Yes the risks definitely seem so much more real this time round, I'm 33 and I know that's not old at all but much older than my other pregnancies, dc are 4 and 6.. My hospital also have a new state of the art scan department that picks problems up at 12 weeks that previously wouldn't have been seen til 20, obviously this is a really good thing but makes it even more terrifying. Dh doesn't understand the worry, he's so laid back and keeps saying what's the point in worrying it won't change anything, of course that's true but argh!

On the plus side I think I'm feeling movement, I still feel ill though it's improving and it's super easy to find heart beat with my Doppler now as I guess baby has moved up from behind pubic bone so hopefully that means it's growing... But of course there could still be lots of things that could be wrong.

ATrueNerd · 11/08/2015 00:50

Thinking of you Overreation Flowers
I've been reading the book Expecting Better by Emily Oster, she is an economist who on getting pregnant, reviewed and analysed the results of basically every study on every aspect of pregnancy. I love it, it is so reassuring to have everything clarified logically. Anyway, she reviewed all the studies on cvs and amnio and came to the conclusion that the miscarriage risk from either procedure is way less than the stated 1 in 100, she says this figure is based on old studies where doctors only did an ultrasound before the procedure not throughout the whole thing like they do nowadays, she puts the risk at 1 in 800 or much lower. I found this very reassuring. The book is definitely worth a read.

jellypi3 · 11/08/2015 07:59

I'm pretty darn nervous about this pg and it's my first. I'm not normally a nervous person but before my scan I was a wreck. Got my mw appointment next week and starting to get nervous about that!

haquoi123 · 11/08/2015 08:27

Morning all! Best of luck for your scans today nerd and ohjelly. Violet I'm definitely more nervous and panicky this time around (but always expected to be), and especially coming up to the 12 week scan. Funnily enough though I've calmed down a bit now, even though I'm still in my danger zone and can't really relax until after 20 weeks. But then we're preparing for both outcomes of this pregnancy, so enjoying the baby move and trying to find a name before 20 weeks so that DH especially can connect to the baby should something go wrong (he struggled with ds). As pessimistic as it sounds, it's actually really allowed us to feel joy and not just fear.

rufus I hope you're feeling Ok! I've got a phobia of wasps (not even allergic) and that sounds horrendous. I'd have killed DH as well. Football indeed!

gone swimming yet another thing to buy! It really hasn't clicked with me yet how much I'm not going to be able to fit into my clothes!

Had anyone heard from brummie recently? Do we know how her cervix scan went? I'm a bit worried...

RattyCatty · 11/08/2015 08:37

Good luck for scans today!

Not heard anything from brummie hope all is ok.

jellypi3 · 11/08/2015 08:41

yeah i hope brummie is ok too

Stepawayfromthezebras · 11/08/2015 08:49

Good luck everyone with scans today Thanks

I got my DS results through yesterday 1 in 290 so technically low risk but higher than I was expecting. This pregnancy thing is messing with my head! I should be feeling good about a third of a percent risk but feel a bit meh. Not meh enough to justify paying for a Harmony test though...

MayFlowers16 · 11/08/2015 09:59

Morning everyone. To everyone who is anxious , I completely understand. I've definitely worried more this time around. Even after a good scan and nt result I've just moved on to worrying about the 20 week scan scan. In the nicest possible way, I'm glad I'm not alone! Dh is NOT a worrier. Lucky sod.

I think I'm feeling movements too. Little flutters, esp after eating or drinking. Smile

BananaRaces · 11/08/2015 10:51

Good luck to all those with scans coming up!

I'm another nervous first-timer, and my DH is the most un-worried person in the entire world. I don't know how he does it!

We're waiting for my blood test results at the moment, with a "higher end of normal" nuchal measurement. I'm really hoping the results will be reassuring rather than worrying. Bloods were taken on Friday... how long did everyone else have to wait for their blood results??

Boobear1983 · 11/08/2015 10:56

banana I had to wait about 10 days. I got a 'higher end' nt result of 2.1 but my combined results came back as 1 in 70013

clarabellski · 11/08/2015 11:04

Hi folks, I hope all today's scans go well Flowers

Was in a meeting with boss this morning and he made a slightly disparaging comment about another 'preggers' colleague (along lines of how inconvenient it was, and she doesn't even work in our team). Eeeek. Really not looking forward to telling him now...

overreactionemoticon · 11/08/2015 11:19

Banana they rang me the next day with my high risk result so as far as that goes I'd say not hearing is good.

(Although I'm still waiting for my CVS appointment and it's driving me mad)

BananaRaces · 11/08/2015 11:20

Boobear, that's reassuring. My nt was 2.6, hopefully my combined will come back low (crosses everything).

Clara can you tell him last thing on a Friday and then make a quick exit? I told my boss yesterday and he was very nice about it. I felt nervous telling mine too, but only because he is so nice and my maternity is going to happen at the worst possible time for the team!

BananaRaces · 11/08/2015 11:27

Hope they get back to you soon about the CVS over. So, no news might be good news then? I think I will make that my mantra for the next few days. Smile

clarabellski · 11/08/2015 11:39

Banana I guess I'm never going to feel like there's a 'good' time. It's like ripping off a plaster, I'm just going to need to do it! My next midwife appointment is 26 August so that's the deadline!

Last night my MIL gave me a natural sponge brought back from her holiday in Cyprus 'for the baby'. I'd rather have it myself thanks!!!! I'm guessing mothers never get presents ever again, everything is for the baby! Hehe...

NoMontagues · 11/08/2015 12:14

overreaction I hope you get the cvs appt soon. I'm thinking of you a lot.

Pretty sure I've seen brummie on a few other threads on the preg boards over the last few days.

NoMontagues · 11/08/2015 12:21

Yeah she posted on a thread that I'm on, yesterday afternoon.

I'm stalking you brummie

Shock Shock Smile

RattyCatty · 11/08/2015 12:29

over can you chase them up to get an app?

clara it won't be as bad as you think! I agree with doing it on Friday!

I'm glad I'm not the only anxious one about the 20 week scan. Even the name of it alarms me 'anomaly' scan argh

CalypsoLilt · 11/08/2015 13:20

Sorry I haven't posted for ages, things have been manic both at home and at work...

anyway just popped in to say the scan on Friday went really well, was an incredible experience and everything looks just perfect :)

feels very real now and for the first time I am excited about becoming a mum!

February '16 approaching and conquering the 12 week mark!
Littleoakhorn · 11/08/2015 16:45

Violet my nuchal scan is on Friday, I can't wait until it's over with and I have the results.

Regarding anxiety, I think I'm less anxious this time than previously. dd was my third pregnancy. 23 months on, the advice and technology is mostly the same... That all could change by Thursday evening of course.

Anomaly scans, by the way, are amazing. You see so much of your baby. I know it's hard not to be nervous but you'll be far to fascinated to worry once it's happening.
