Flowers for you brummie sending lots of positive thoughts your way.

Hi to all the new people

rdr I don't know what a one to one midwife is? I had 4 at my home birth last time which was pretty cool although one was just sat downstairs having tea and cake with my dad. I don't think that is what you meant though sorry I can't be more helpful.

StockingFullOfCoal · 16/07/2015 21:31

Sigh. In bed eating ice lollies and I've just popped some paracetamol. Day 3 of sore throat from Hell and I've caved. Barely sleeping. This my second sore throat in 5 weeks. Feel like I've smoked 40 fags and swallowed barbed wire.

Littleoakhorn · 16/07/2015 21:32

Brummie, these lovely ladies have said it better than I can. Please revel in you pregnancy and enjoy it as much as you can. The downs risk is ridiculously over played in my view and nothing for you to worry about.

I've got my booking in appointment on Monday, which because I'm in Germany means a scan too. I'm very excited! Just tomorrow to survive and then it's the weekend!

rdr15 · 16/07/2015 21:34

clumsypot it's a service commissioned by the nhs where you are assigned one midwife who does all of your antenatal care at your home. www.onetoonemidwives.org/ here's the link for anyone who's interested. I wasn't at all impressed with the midwife care in my last pregnancy saw about 8 different midwifes throughout and there was never any consistency so have decided to go with these.

rdr15 · 16/07/2015 21:37

Brummie listen to what everyone else has said and enjoy your pregnancy. X

RattyCatty · 16/07/2015 21:49

Brummie Flowers

Brummiegirl15 · 16/07/2015 21:55

Thanks all. I think I'm just a bit overwhelmed.

I'll probably have the scan and have a risk like 1.1500 or something ridiculous like that.

It's been a long wait to get to this point. Thank you for the kind words Flowers

QuackQuackers · 16/07/2015 22:57

I think it sounds amazing rdr Though last time I read into it I thought they were only in the NW (which might be good for you?)

Pagerty · 16/07/2015 23:49

Brummie Flowers

Onecurrantbun · 17/07/2015 07:03

38 is still pretty young, Brummie. What will be will be but for now, the statistics are on your side. Hope you feel a little brighter for a good night's sleep Flowers

I've had a private scan, £60 I think and i just phoned and booked.

I can't work out how to add to the stats, but My vitals are

Onecurrantbun, 26yo, expecting DC3, 9+6, EDD 11.2.16

If someone would be kind enough ro update please?

DH was hacking me off with hisnhayfever last night, normally I'm sympathetic but he was sneezing SO LOUDLY AND FOR SO LONG! Miraculously he didn't wake the kids although They were up "nice" and early at 6! Rascals

BadlyWrittenPoem · 17/07/2015 07:12

Hi, just dropping in to pass on a message from Purdie. She's asked me to let you know that she has decided not to return to the thread and she wishes you all well with your pregnancies.

Littleoakhorn · 17/07/2015 07:20

Well I was woken at 5:30 by a thunderstorm today. Then up at 6 when dd was woken by a thunderclap. It's going to be 30 degrees today. TFI Friday!

How are people coping with the pregnancy sickness? I guess a few of you are starting to come out the other side.

Thanks for the message BWP

Ohjellybelly · 17/07/2015 07:58

Urgh, sickness. Yesterday was my worst day ever for sickness. I think I spent more time with my head in the loo then I did anywhere else. I was hoping that yesterday was as bad as it could get, but have woken today with a stonking headache and that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. How much longer is this going to go on for??

I'm quite fortunate in that my work is quiet at the moment and I'm able to leave anytime I fancy but my business partner, being a male, tries with the sympathy but I can see that he just doesn't 'get it'.

There can't be too much longer of this left - I'm 8+5 - doesn't the placenta take over soon?
Grrrr - you can sense how I feel today!!

RattyCatty · 17/07/2015 08:01

Hope those feeling sick are okay today, I don't think this muggy weather helps at all.

brummie you are being very strong.

I'm off to St George's hospital in tooting this morning for all the screening blood tests. Does anyone know how much they take?

rallytog1 · 17/07/2015 08:11

brummie 38 is no age at all. Yes, there's a slightly heightened risk of your baby having downs syndrome, but if you look at the stats, the background risk goes from minuscule to slightly less minuscule. Lots of my friends have had babies in their 40s and all have been low-risk once their bloods have come back. So try not to panic. I know it's easier said than done and that your journey to this stage has been longer and more filled with heartbreak than most, but there really is every chance you will be getting a healthy baby in February.

My scan is on Monday too (and I'm terrified), so will do some virtual hand-holding with you till then!

BadgieBear · 17/07/2015 08:30

Only just caught up - brummie Flowers. Sending you lots of positive thoughts. I see the lovely ladies have said everything which I could think of, better than I could have said it, so just wanted to add my support too.

rally hope you aren't stressing too much about Monday - hope to see you here after the weekend posting lovely pics of your bean Smile

CalypsoLilt · 17/07/2015 08:33

hey StockingFullOfCoal if you're feeling run down then I highly recommend Floravital, it's an iron plus B vitamins liquid (so careful not to overdose if you are taking a multi-vitamin). I swear by this stuff, pregnant or otherwise x

NoMontagues · 17/07/2015 08:47

ohjelly I'm 12 weeks, and I haven't had much nausea for the last week and a half. So hopefully you will start feeling better in a week or so too.

Saying that, I never had it as bad as you. Headaches I do get, I think keeping hydrated helps a bit.

Boobear1983 · 17/07/2015 09:14

ohjelly I am 11+3 and it seems to be easing off for me. Still pretty bad in the evening but daytime nausea seems to be getting better. Week 10 was the worst for me.

CalypsoLilt · 17/07/2015 09:22

Ohjelly the things that work for me are:
never, ever, ever letting my stomach get empty (appreciate this might be tricky)
napping and sleeping as much as poss
taking vitamins at night to sleep off the sickness
sustaining myself on whatever I want (carbs) crisps, chips, new potatoes, cereal, to hell with vegetables (vom)

Sorry to hear you're having a rough time. Can you see your GP?

birdbrain21 · 17/07/2015 09:25

I haven't actually been sick yet was just very nauseous but since 10 weeks (I'm now 12) it definitely eased up a lot and has now basically disappeared unless I haven't eaten for hours unlikely to happen often!

Have my scan today dh keeps asking if I'm excited, why do men just not understand the nerves of a hormonal woman actually I'm terrified I'll be excited once I've hopefully seen a wriggly bean in there fx

RattyCatty · 17/07/2015 09:31

Good luck birdbrain!

clarabellski · 17/07/2015 09:32

Good morning everyone,

onecurrantbun i've added your details to the stats sheet. With a EDD of 11/02/15 the formula the sheet uses to calculate how far along you are is putting you at 10 1/7: you've gained a couple of days!

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dWmvdD9SkvPQqKn7rpFHazgufmda2FOTMtL093cZFj8/edit#gid=0

My nausea was at its peak from 7 - 9 weeks. It has since tailed off (or I've just learned to manage it better), and as with Boo it is worse in the evenings.

rebeccax2 · 17/07/2015 09:39

Hey All. OLDIE but a goodie here. I'll be 40 when I deliver this little bean. FEEEEEEL for me as I'll be celebrating my 40th birthday 8 months pregnant with NO CHAMPAGNE. Well, okay maybe a little ;-)

brummie try not to worry too much. When I delivered my first I was 38 and the first thing I asked the midwife was 'does she have downs syndrome?'. My results were 1/2100 or something.

They all looked at me like I was quite senile (and not just cos of my age.). It really is very low risk, even taking our ages into account.

If I were you I would worry about more important things like, will the GAP BABY sale have newborn summer clothes :-)
