I've had no sickness either Wynsey and still can't quite believe there's anything in there. 8 days until scan day!

TeenieDeenie · 12/07/2015 20:43

Hi all. Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

We've got our 12 week scan tomorrow so I'll be 11+4 going by my early one. So, so nervous already I've no idea how I'll manage to sleep tonight never mind a full morning concentrating at work. Scan is at 14:50. Any other scans tomorrow?

MissMartin10 · 12/07/2015 20:59

good luck for your scan tomorrow Teenie Grin
Mine feels forever away in 10 days! when im 13+3.. why are all my appointments since my first doctors appointment taking forever i told them when i just turned 5weeks lol

mrschatty · 12/07/2015 21:10

Re- house guests most of my family live 3hr drive away apart from parents- DH family is local. My family have decided they will be coming down for extended intervals first immediately after birth then a few weeks later for a week or so I've said this is fine but they are to stay with my parents and cone in the day to help me with housework cooking washings and baby things etc run errands for me and then leave in the evening. I'm hoping to breastfeed so I can atleast have a slice of me and baby time as everyone thinks this is THEIR baby!

fishermanswife1 · 12/07/2015 21:29

Welcome tiny and mandry!

great craft chat, and gorgeous cardi blue. I'm done quilting for the day for friends wedding. Feel really achey from doing it all day, but it's been really good having to focus and concentrate, distracting me from bean worries. Just want the next few weeks and checking appointments to be done and feel more confident again FX.

Not sure on house guests, will need to be a discussion with DH a little further along. Both our families live 2hrs away. I'm expecting DM to come for a short while at first as she's said she wants to help with house, dog walking, errand type stuff while I rest up and DH and I get acquainted with bean. I really appreciated the offer.

Romeolovesjuliet · 12/07/2015 21:39

First timers - don't waste time fretting about childbirth honestly. The best thing you can do is focus on breathing techniques and not get too fixated on a plan as anything can happen. Agree that tens is a good form of pain relief as is keeping really mobile and upright where possible - I didn't like the idea of gas and air or an epidural as I'm a control freak. And tearing - well no one wants to tear but my experience of that has been fine too. I had an episiotomy first time round and that was fine (although was apparently tiny) and second time had a second degree tear. The worst part of that was the stitching as I hadn't had any pain relief - far worse than the birth. Both of mine were over 9lbs although I'm not sure that makes much difference - it's all about what position the baby is in really.
All of our family live 2 hours away but I'm really anti social and can't be doing with house guests at the best of times let alone in the early days. I'm happy to share the joy with everyone but I don't like newborns being passed around lots. I remember my MIL walking out of the room with my 2 day old DS and I felt so panicked! Really had to stop myself from snatching him back.
Scan day is Friday so counting down the days now.

Romeolovesjuliet · 12/07/2015 21:41

Having said that if my mum was still here (she died 5 years ago) I would have had her to stay. It all depends on the type of guests. My in laws are the type that expect waiting on and like juniper said I am not falling for that again!

frozenfairy123 · 13/07/2015 07:39

Welcome Mandy!
Having reread what I posted it sounded like I had the perfect birth but unfortunately it ended in an epidural cos I was told not to push for awhile whilst they checked on a problem with my cervix and then a crash c section when my sons heartbeat dropped to low. He had the cord wrapped round his neck twice so it was for the best. My point was to just go with the flow as circumstances are fairly out of your hands. Xx

Romeolovesjuliet · 13/07/2015 09:12

Agree frozen - the baby calls the shots! Both times I wanted a water birth but couldn't. First time because there was menconium in my waters and second because there was no spare pool but in the end my labour was really fast so I wouldn't have got to use it anyway. I would still like to aim for one this time but have low expectations of actually getting one!

EdgarAllenPoe · 13/07/2015 09:50

We've had a busy weekend.

Got my NT results - 1/7400 so nice and low risk.

Bought my first ever maternity leggings and vests. SO. MUCH. COMFORT. I thought I was being over-eager at 14+3 but apparently I'm not alone, and they really are the bee's knees.

Finally told my parents who had their annual visit, and then my brothers (by text - classy). All went down very well although my dad exclaimed 'Oh no!' but explained it was because he knew my mother would go into granny-overdrive mode (she is VERY excited about becoming a granny) and he would have to live with her. He's actually very pleased about the baby.

Still haven't told work. DH is adamant we need to have more of a plan in place before we tell them, but I I feel like I'm getting a mini-bump and I'm wearing 'different' clothes to usual and I just don't like being this secretive. Hopefully I'll tell them this week, if not next. Currently trying to work out how much childcare costs and how much I could earn part-time and all that jazz. FUN.

melonface · 13/07/2015 10:39

Morning all. I have my 12 week scan tomorrow, anyone else?

Really suffering today , lost count of the amount of times ive been sick and struggling to keep water down. Got so much work to do I can't hide away under my duvet!

kep1979 · 13/07/2015 10:43

Hi all,

Back from another lovely weekend of r&r in Wales. Bit of a stressful day ahead as have my son's appeal for a secondary school place this afternoon, and got to go on my own as dh starts his new job today. Bricking it somewhat - have done one before so know what to expect bu he totally has his heart set on it so no pressure!

Lovely craft chat - I cross stitch, embroider and knit and am determined to teach myself crochet. I have ordered gorgeous wool for a little cardy that I've been itching to knit for ages but it was too girly for all of the boys I have knitted for. Also want to do a birth sampler so could do with choosing one as it'll take me a while. But most pressing is finishing my dad's (massive) cross stitch picture - I started stitching it for his 70th birthday, and he will b 72 in December Blush

As for the birth, I know I'll be having another c section, but have been researching "gentle" caesareans as I'd like to try and make it a bit less clinical and a bit more natural feeling - plus dh is petrified so anything to make it feel more relaxing will help as I am scared he will keel over!

good luck to everyone having scans today

mrsfazruns · 13/07/2015 11:12

Having a nesting day I think ..... Overwhelming urge to clean out my wardrobe and pack away all the stuff I know I can't wear till after baby is here

jmac88 · 13/07/2015 11:13

Hi all. Sorry going slightly off track....but what do people think of buying 2nd hand prams? We are pretty set on uppababy vista but really can't afford it brand new. Have seen a few on ebay for 350 which is tempting but not sure if it's safe?

Blackandwhitecat3 · 13/07/2015 11:21

jmac I'm considering buying a second hand pram (also looking at the uppababy vista). Will def buy a new car seat though - wouldn't buy one of those second hand.

jmac88 · 13/07/2015 11:36

Thanks b&w dh and dps think it's completely fine but I was worried about not knowing if it's had a problem previously. Not too worried about germs as can give it a thorough clean. But more thinking about any faults that might not be obvious.... may just be being over cautious though!

Chip86 · 13/07/2015 11:57

Nothing wrong with a second hand pram, if you collect it you could take it for a test drive over bumpy ground and test the brakes, but I am sure it would be fine.
You are all very cleaver with the knitting I can't do anything like that hehehe.
My DParents live 1h30min away, they will be coming to look after DD while I am in labour, depending on if it's c section or not depends on how long they stay 3 days or just the day, and then once DH is back at work, if I have had a c section they may come stay for a week or 2, depending on how I am doing, or if a vac birth they may just come up for the day.
Don't worry about labour by then you will be so big and so fed up you will not care how it comes out as long as it gets out hehehe.
I had a very flexible birth plan and wanted a water birth, but my labour was so fast by the time they did the second check, I was fully dilated, and no time for a water birth, ended up with a EMCS which was fine.

SleepyDragon · 13/07/2015 12:18

Afternoon All

I'm only off the site for 2 days and there's anopther 4 pages to read lol

Hope everyone is ok and welcome to the newbies waves

Ok so topics i can see are -

Childbirth - bizarrely i'm not that concerned about childbirth yet, i know its going to be the most painful thing ever but i am more worried about going to the loo if i tear and the lochia bleeding afterwards!

Shopping - still haven't done any but i do feel more 'justified' in looking now i've had my scan lol Still can't believe my EDD hasn't moved lol!
MrsC we were looking at the Darlington range too, its gorgeous!

was back at work this morning after a week off, really didn;t want to come back but hey-ho. told the biatches and they all pretended to be really please for me as there is no way i can hand the expansion of my front end any more lol!

And after no exercise for god knows how long, yesterday i did the 5K Race for Life. I walked it, i am by no means a runner, but still managed to do it in bang on 59minutes despited feeling sick and having a headache - my legs/groin/back are making sure i pay for it today though!!!!

crumble74 · 13/07/2015 13:08

kep That sounds great. I can't wait to have a go on a more girly birth sampler, I did one for DS - when I had my hands back! Good luck with that massive picture!

jmac I would sell you my Vista but I'm still using it! Smile 2nd hand prams are def ok, it's just car seats & mattresses that you should buy new.

Good job on the race for life sleepy! I also told my boss today and her first words were "That's hilarious!" Weird reaction or what? I suppose I've only been back from maternity leave for a week.

Good luck for your scan tomorrow melon

tinyme135 · 13/07/2015 13:10

Hope everyone's scans go well today. Lucky ne I've been sent home as I have my OH horrible cold. Didn't sleep, nose won't stop running, heavy eyes and horrible earache. Now off to opticians and then back to his to sleep before he gets back from work and gym. Plan is it get into bed watch jezza and fall asleep.

Blackandwhitecat3 · 13/07/2015 13:11

Sleepy I'm in awe, going up the stairs for me is exercise at the moment (and so unlike me!).

Experienced Mums (so glad to have you on here) do I really need to buy a chest of drawers with changing top? what did you do?

Thanks Smile

lilyb84 · 13/07/2015 13:26

Bloody hell, sleepy, well done!! Impressive stuff!

Just playing catch up after the weekend - welcome newbies!

As for childbirth, I'm not too worried about it... until I start reading the various books and magazines I've got sitting at home, then I start feeling a little sick... Shock

Haven't started buying anything yet as we'll be getting a fair amount from friends and family, and until I know exactly what I'm not going to even start looking. I feel a bit behind the rest of you though - you all seem to knowledgeable about everything, and so organised! I've barely thought about anything so far. I also won't be taking up any kind of craft, but am super impressed with all you talented crafters out there Smile

Feeling pretty crappy today after having a second migraine yesterday, but annoyingly I've run out of sick leave at work (I've only been there a year and had a two-week virus in Jan/Feb) so I can't take any more without going onto an official warning, which of course I want to try and avoid. It's a horrible feeling knowing I can't take any more time off even if I'm sick (which today, with a pounding head, I am) - talk about a rock and a hard place Sad

melonface · 13/07/2015 13:35

lily pregnancy related sickness cant be counted as normal sickness so you should be able to take time off?

SleepyDragon · 13/07/2015 13:36

ahhhh thanks ladies! i'm super chuffed, there was 5 of is doing it and we've managed to raised over ?1K!!!

i really am paying for it now though, i'm falling asleep at my desk lol!

i am also sick of people telling me to avoid eating prawns...... is anyone else getting this??? Confused

lilyb84 · 13/07/2015 13:45

melon my manager took me aside the other day to speak about sickness, she didn't mention anything about getting anything other than 'normal' sick leave - and there's nothing in our policy that I can see. All pregnancy-related sick leave seems to be included in our normal allocation, which I've now run out of (doh!).

Fortunately my manager's being very supportive with working from home etc so I should be able to work around it, it's just a bit frustrating and stressful trying to 'make up' the hours in the evening or at weekends!
