My boobs have been leaking for a month! Especially disturbing was when they leaked at the site of Britney Spears and child on TV - classy or what?!

MoosMa · 14/11/2006 18:56

Back to square one clothes-wise here. The big cardigan I got from Debenhams has fallen apart and gone back! The button hole broke and it all started to unravel, but they were very good and gave me a full refund despite being past the 28 day limit. So now I just have my big man-jumper which isn't really suitable to be seen out in very often and I have to start searching all over again.

On the bright side, I had a lovely afternoon getting my hair done all new and shiny - had about 8" cut off! Dh likes it and it looks more purposeful, less like someone dropped a big squid on my head Also it was nice to have someone looking after me for a change, and not having to listen out for cries or poo smells!

Tommy · 14/11/2006 20:52

I saw a nice cardigan (long coat type one) in JoJo which i thought about buying but then thought was too glamourous for me......

here and also and here

Hello due on 1st Feb so can I join your club?!!

MoosMa · 15/11/2006 11:53

Thanks Tommy, I found one in Wallis this morning - £40 and it has 3 buttons which I will undo as I grow!

MoosMa · 15/11/2006 11:54

Oh, and welcome along Sallyallyally!

soundbites · 15/11/2006 12:18

Welcome Sallyallyally - we are due on the same day!

I booked myself into Crowborough Birthing Centre yesterday - so I am booked there and at the local hospital. I spoke to the midwife at Crowborough about my concerns that my chances of actually having the baby there are minimal, and she said they only have to transfer 35% of first time mums. Not too bad, I suppose. Anyway, need to keep an open mind and see what happens when the time comes.

I have started filling in the 'Cardiff count-to-ten' chart this week. It tells you to start counting movement from 9am, but my baby gets going long before that - particularly on my train commute to work; a bit of a favourite I think - and then settles down for a little snooze when counting begins!

SmudgeMum · 15/11/2006 14:27

The saga of the caramel slices continue....went to see M/W yesterday and she asked if I'd been eating anything sugary as there was lots in my urine. Perhaps the 2 blobs of caramel slice I had had with my lunch???? It was a different M/W again (I think that's the 5th different one) and as I've decided that I'm going to move doctors when we move that'll be another different midwife. Anyway, she took bloods but had a bit of a mare and I am now the owner of one humungous bruise on one arm and a decent sized one on the other. I just hope that I actually get the results of these blood tests as my last 2 lots have got lost! On a more positive note she said that the baby was headdown and was beginning to lock - what does that mean? I had visions of it being stuck by its head in my pelvis for the next 3 months and having to do some kind of weird breakdancing to wriggle around. Overactive imagination perhaps?

Hope everyone's bloods go alright and that the glucose test was ok soundbites. Did you or the midwife manage to prod your LO into head down sorkycake?

I too am looking for a winter coat and was reckoning on buying something with buttons and a couple of sizes bigger than my normal size. We're going to Scotland for Christmas so I reckon it's worth it. I might have a look in Wallis, thanks for the tip Moosma.

Snugglebumnappies I think it's very mean of you to gloat about Xmas shopping I haven't really thought of any ideas and we've got to send stuff abroad in the next couple of weeks. I was pleased with myself for planning to send out change of address notes with Christmas cards at the beginning of December. Pleased with myself for the bright idea that is, not that I've actually done anything about it!!

SmudgeMum · 15/11/2006 14:36

Does anyone know the rough sizings for JoJo? I get confused when it just says small, medium, large? I'm a non-pregnant size 10/12. Thanks

SmudgeMum · 15/11/2006 14:42

OH, just looked at the site properly and found the information about sizing. Ignore me!

snugglebumnappies · 15/11/2006 16:33

Hi Smudge, just to make you feel better, I haven't always been like this, we moved house 5 years ago and my "we have moved cards" are still in the bottom of a drawer, I guess everyone that needed to know does by now! I am getting more and more neurotic about things being planned as I get older, it drives DH to dispair, I start to panic if I don't know what we are doing for Christmas Day by October and to make matters worse his family are the sort who give you five nano seconds notice before they decend on you or invite you to a family do on Boxing Day (ahhh havr come out in a cold sweat thinking about it!).

sorkycake · 15/11/2006 16:48

I'm still jaundiced even though my bloods came back normal so I've an appt to see the Consultant tomorrow to get it checked out.
The baby tried to scrabble round the other night whilst I spent time on hands and knees with my bum in the air and is now breech oblique. Aargh! I'm gonna end up in hospital at this rate. The problem may well be that the placenta is preventing it from going head down given the amount of attempts it's making to turn. I have to let the Cons know about this and see what she says.

peachygirl · 15/11/2006 18:23

HI all,
Thanks for info on 3rd trimester dates Sallyn I was nearly right!
I went to the debenams sale today and indulged myself in buying several pink things. Also an cardi from the wallis bit but with only one button. I got some great discounts.
I went to the theatre last night and baby was very quiet but the applause at the end made it jump!. At the moment it moves alot in the evening and when I sit on the little chairs at school, (maybe a complaint at being squished)and on a thursday in singing assembly.
I'm a bit jealous about your chistmas shopping snugglebum, well done you!!
Hope everything is OK with the consultant sorkycake
Smudgemum I've got a couple of JoJo tops. I'm usually a 10 and the small fit is really good for me, although one top seems to be a bit smaller than the other. At the momement JoJo is my favourite catalogue the pages are getting a bit dog eared.
Welcome sallyallyally!

babydrivertoo · 15/11/2006 22:18

Hi everyone - and good new thread but already getting busy!!

We had a great week at centerparcs and parentsIL last week. CP is basically toddler heaven and not too bad for grownups either as long as you self cater. Now back refreshed and only 5 and a half weeks left at work which is both brilliant and scary at the same time.

Baby moving round loads at the mo, though am worried it might be breech as v low and most movement in groin area. Good friend just had a DD last week and was breech but luckily had had a scan the day before (following her instincts) so was able to have a planned C-sect rather than emergency one and is doing really well. Still, I read in my pg book that 57% of babies turn @32 wks and another 25% or so by 36 weeks so maybe still too soon to worry. Not due to see a MW again until 32 weeks so just a blood test on Fri to keep me in touch with the system.

Agree coats and winter clothes are a nightmare. I'm wearing an old M&S swing coat which I've dug out from the back of the cupboard and shd do until the end but it's pretty grotty. I got a nice mat jumper from H&M and other than that it's cardigans and a couple of oversized regular tops.

As for Christmas shopping, erm, yes, I suppose I'd better do some...

take care all, sorry for long post.

Tommy · 15/11/2006 22:37

peachygirl - know what you mean about kittle primary school chairs - I'm alright getting down to them but can't get up again - god kows what I'll be like by Feb

I am using my usual coat/fleece and putting my pashmina on to cover up the gap. It also covers my bump so quiet a few people havem't realised I'm pregnant yet!

OP posts:
suis · 16/11/2006 09:29

Badydrivertoo - I've been getting most of my movement low and left too... a wee bit up at my belly button, and nothing on the right at all, plus my bump feels very heavy low down, causing sharp pains in low down places I didn't know I had, especially when I walk about. It's quite disconcerting, and embarrassing at work when I suddenly yelp when I'm just walking about. I've been trying to work out which way up the wee one is but I've no idea. I saw the GP rather than the MW at the last appointment, and she said she didn't have the expereince to be able to tell, and the next app is with the GP again because the MW is too busy, so I guess I won't know then either.

ruthie21 · 16/11/2006 10:57

hello everyone hope you don't mind me joining so late in the game! iam 26+3 and was wondering how many times should i have seen the mw by now? this isn't my first but my last baby was 7yrs ago so i really have no recollection!

CurrantBun · 16/11/2006 11:54

Morning all, really have to try to keep pace with this thread as it moves on so fast! I have my next midwife appointment tomorrow morning and have had a pretty stressful week at work sorting out a staffing issue so hope this isn't reflected in my blood pressure reading. Am visiting a friend tonight so hopefully that should help me to unwind.

Had a bad night's sleep last night as woke up at 4:30am with cramp in the top of my left foot - really painful and had to get out of bed and go into another room to massage it so didn't wake DH. Hope that's not the start of things to come as I've heard a lot of pregnant women get cramp at night.

I'm 25+3 and baby is incredibly active at the moment, mostly in the evening when I'm stretched out on the sofa and on my Tube journey in the morning. I'm sure it moves around a fair bit during the course of the day too, but I sometimes notice it less if I'm busy and concentrating on other things. I think it might be breech at the moment because most of the movements are quite low down. Still, plenty of time for it to turn yet!

DrJo · 16/11/2006 12:52

hi all - I've been a voyeur (sp?) for a while so I thought I ought to speak up for once I'm 27wks and 3 days with my second (DS is 3.5) - We know from the 20wk scan that this one has a cleft lip and there may be a palate cleft too. It is also transverse according to the MW on Tues tho' that is nothing new for me - DS was all over the place until 41 wks! As you say CurrantBun plenty of time yet for turning. Ruthie I think the second time around you see your MW a lot less - booking appointment around 18wks, 28 wks and ~32/34 wks and then every fortnight I think - It depends on whether you have any complications and if you are under MW or consultant care - Have you got another appointment lined up?

Sallyallyally · 16/11/2006 12:54

Hi Ruthie 21. I am 29 weeks and have seen midwife 3 times so far (hospital scans inbetween) ..appointment next week and then I think it starts to hot up a bit! I have one daughter already who will be 7 next week so was a little rusty on the antenatal routine myself! Reassuring to find so many seem to be breech at this point..mine is too..but only about 4% are breech by term. Have been trying to watch tv on all fours as recommended but dont find it terribly comfy!! Maybe not helped by my little one wandering in giggling 'mummy..your bottom looks enormous like that..daddy, come and see!). Ahh the joys of a supportive environment!!
Was given a high risk of Downs early on (1:200..yes, I know that's not very high, but the hospital seem to think so!) and one soft marker on 20 week scan. Refused amnio, but can't get that niggle out of my head.

SmudgeMum · 16/11/2006 14:55

Afternoon all. I get most of my movement fairly low down and mostly on the left and the m/w told me that the baby was head down. If only they came with a map it would all be a lot easier!
This is my first and I think I've seen a midwife 6 times (I'm 29 weeks tomorrow) but I had an extra visit because of moving.

Dr Jo, I'm guessing that you'll have been given lots of information about cleft lip and palate. I know that there is a lot of support out there. My godson was born with both but it hadn't been picked up on the scan (and they said that he would be a girl!). he's now 6 and doing great. I think one of the hardest things for my friend was other peoples reactions when she was told that she couldn't breastfeed. She wasn't that bothered but other people kept saying how guilty she must feel about having to bottle feed. The squeezy bottles were great (something to do with baby not being able to suck because of cleft palate) but older sister wanting to help and squeezing so hard that the milk kind of went everywhere!!

LOL Sallyallyally at image of you watching TV on all fours with daughter and husband watching you!

Wanted to ask if anybody has got an exercise ball thing and whether you think it's worthwhile?

MoosMa · 16/11/2006 16:09

Smudgemum, I got one when I was pg with DD1 and have just blown it up again for this one. I'm not using it a huge amount yet but it was great for the last few weeks last time. I was watching telly on all fours last night with a cushion under my knees and my top half leaning on the ball (I'm trying to prevent another OP baby).

It's also great for later on when sofas are too dangerous to sit on (they eat you and you can't get out), and some gentle bouncing on one helps the discomfort when you're about to pop. Also I believe that they're good for the early stages of labour as they keep you in a good position.

I think mine cost about £10 so even if you don't get on with it, it's not a huge amount to lose (besides, DD1 loves to play with it now!).

SmudgeMum · 16/11/2006 16:44

Hi MM, Thanks for that. The idea of balancing on top of a ball sounds very dangerous to me right now but that may be because I'm trying to imagine standing on it (which I know you don't do) like clowns do! What is OP? Also do you know if there are any differences between the gym balls that you can get and the pregnancy balls? Or is it another of these consumer tricks where they try and get you to spend more by giving it a different name?

peachygirl · 16/11/2006 18:10

Hi all
Welcome DR Jo and Ruthie.Dr Jo I think smudge mum has said good stuff about the cleft plaate I think you should prepare yourself for the large number of professionals who you will meet shortly after the birth (while your are trying to get to know and enjoy your baby)You could try putting a cal out on the special needs threads the will be someone on mumsnet who will offer adivce
Moosma/ smudgemum I don't think there is alot of difference in the balls, maybe the birthing balls are a little bit stronger but I was thinking of getting one of the cheaper (tescos/ boots/ argos etc) options if I decide to egt one.
My colleague who is also PG ( going on her mat leave tomorrow) was talking about taking it to the hospital already blown up. We will probably have to go in a taxi so I can just imagine us stuggling to get it into a strange car!!
In fact I could probably borrow one from the PE cupboard at least over the christmas hols.

MoosMa · 16/11/2006 21:07

This is the one I've got.

OP stands for O-something Posterior when the baby has its back to yours (the wrong way!). It makes for more difficult labour and as DD1 was, I don't want another!
