Thought I'd start a new thread as the other one's about to run out.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hiya - wow its been quiet on here! Other people must have live then or something?

We've got a busy day today with Church, then a builder is coming to look at my damp patch

...after that I've got to cook for my book club. I managed to completely ruin the dinner last night.

I burnt the broccoli by letting the water evaporate (?) and the roast potatoes turned to mush - plus I used olive oil for them instead of vegetable oil. I normally have no probs cooking veggies so think my PG brain just can't think straight. I've never messed up a roast potatoe before.

I was going to do a roast for the book club, but have decided they will have chicken (pre cooked) plus mashed potatoe and potatoe croquettes, with asparagus and those mini carrots (Chanteray?) and peas, followed by Chocolate fudge cake and creamy cornish ice cream. Oh yeah and a parsnippy soup for starter (M&S's, not mine ). The main course is a bit weird but I figure that everyone would have had at least two glasses of wine by then, so won't be too bothered about what they eat. Anyway everyone loves mashed potatoe don't they?

I always seem to have a little ramble to myself on here on Sunday mornings, as no one else is up

What is everyone else doing today?

harktheheraldfoxessing · 26/11/2006 07:38

I can't even spell potato anymore

MossletoeAndWine · 26/11/2006 07:50

Kitty, sorry for rambling on about work stuff, do you know, sometimes I moan so much about it I even bore myself! Funny thing is I used to really like my job until I got pg and realised just how scrooge & marley they are!

Foxy you're not the only one awake, I'm nearly always up early on a Sunday because I have a driving lesson at nine. Yes you'd think given that I'm nearly thirty I should be able to drive by now but I hate it! It was the thought of hulking Bertie around on the local bus network that gave me the impetus to do it.

Your meal tonight sounds lovely, I am going to learn to cook when I go off on maternity leave, as I've a month before my edd. Dh does all the cooking at the mo, I only have one meal I can make (chilli) and sometimes I even screw that up!!

harktheheraldfoxessing · 26/11/2006 08:05

Mossytoe - I can't cook - I'm a "warmer upper" . I'm normally good at vegetables, but rubbish at "proper" cooking, like meat pies and things. All the veggies get done with loving care, then I bung a shop bought pie on or something!!

You'll have so much freedom when you've passed your test. I learnt when I was 26/27 and I remember the sudden realisation that I could just get up and drive off somewhere any time day or night. Its great. R U enjoying the lessons?

MossletoeAndWine · 26/11/2006 08:12

Lol at "warming up" - I know what you mean. Actually, I have to say, since we bought a steamer, if I've ever had to do veggies they do taste better. I used to boil them and then forget about them!

Dh is one of those people who just has that natural cooking ability, like we won't have a certain spice or whatever, so he'll know which one is the same. He does spend a lot on food though.

I recently changed instructors, my last one was a bit patronising and every single time I did something wrong (which was a lot), he'd stop and talk about it for about ten mins. I was paying £18 each lesson and I reckon about £10 of that was paying for talking, so I got really miffed and changed. My new instructor's better, so whilst I wouldn't say I was enjoying the lessons yet, I'm disliking them a little less !

kittyschristmascrackers · 26/11/2006 08:25

morning all

Oh yes, it's great being ableto drive, it gives you such freedom. I hated having lessons 'cos I was s**t scared of driving and didn't feel in control. Now I don't give it a second thought. Mind you it'll be a different story once we get the monster truck next Feb .

Foxy, I am well impressed by the supreme effort you are going to tonight. It's not just about cooking, it's the organisation of it all. Who deals with the kids when all this is going on?

X factor was its usual farce, anyone else watching? I think it is the t.v. counterpart to Heat magazine

Today Ds1 is now going to the laser quest party so dp and I will take the rest to the local farm park. Mad mother phoned last night and asked if she could come out with us , now that is UNHEARD of. Not sure what is going on, dp is twitching at the prospect and muttering things like" Does she realise she has to pay her own entry fee?"

I'd love to take myself back off to the shops today, saw some fab jumpers. I guess I should wait for the sales, but I can never face them, would rather pay full price than be pushed and shoved and knocked black and blue sounds like my life with children, perhaps I should brave them afterall

When I was paying for something in Woolies the assistant pointed at nos 1nad 3 and asked if these were all I had " oh no " I replied " I've got another 2 at home". It was only when I wason my way home that I realised that yet again I had fogotton a child[blush, always happens

MossletoeAndWine · 26/11/2006 08:34

Kitty that is exactly it, I don't feel in control. I get above thirty mph and I feel like I'm going to crash!

Don't watch X factor I'm afraid, dh loathes reality TV, unless it's under the guise of being a documentary (like dog borstal or wife swap or something) then he loves it, although pretends it is because it's somehow intellectual and making a comment on society etc etc . Did get Pirates of the Carribean Dead Man's Chest out on DVD though, watched it all the way through and then it's "to be continued" - was well annoyed as I'd stayed up til ten thirty to finish it which is way past my bed time at the mo!!

Local farm park sounds great, I must say I'm looking forward to having kids so I have an excuse to do things like that (looks a bit suss, childless couple wandering around a farm park, or the science museum or something!) btw I am embarrassed to admit, I didn't quite understand about forgetting a child, how many do you have, or that you had lost one in woolies (brain not quite awake yet)?

MossletoeAndWine · 26/11/2006 08:38

Right, better go, driving instructor has just called, he's going to be ten minutes early...

LaidbackinAsia · 26/11/2006 09:31

Morning all. Hope everyone ok. I am pissed off today as we had a power cut for most of yesterday and yesterday night. DS2 had a cold and a fever and we had no ceiling fans last night and no fridge, so we were all SO hot and bothered and the milk went off !

Anyway... today is another day ! Made some christmas cards with DS1 and now he has gone for a surf now with DH.(foxy they have stopped at he post box to post the Dr Who cards to your DS)
DS2 is having a sleep.... I can hear his snuffling... better go and check on him ...

Now off to think of a xmas name ...

kittyschristmascrackers · 26/11/2006 09:59

mossy, I have 5 at the mo. When I say I forgot one, I didn't actually leave one behind this time, although thart has happened, I meant I forgot in my head which I suppose is marginally better

laidback, sorry about your woes, can't imagine it being hot

awayinamuppet · 26/11/2006 11:20

So glad to hear you're enjoying a glass of wine here and there Kitty and Foxy - so many people draw breath if they see a preggie woman having a tipple - I'd hate to think I was the only one indulging!

Foxy - the book sounds mysterious - now I want to know what the terrible mistake is! I have just finished 2 really good books - Empress Orchid - loosely based on real life - poor girl who gets picked to be one of the Emperor's concubines and The Kite Runner by someone with an unpronouncable name - all about a young boy growing up in Afghanistan when the Taliban take over - some of the passages take your breath away... GAAARRRGGGHHH I'm beginning to feel like I'm back in that Eng Lit lesson at school - will shut up now!

25+1 (boy)

LunarSea · 26/11/2006 11:29

I've been having the odd glass of wine too. And on occasion while pg I've also had steak which wasn't totally frazzled, blue cheese, pate, and prawns. All of which we're apparently not supposed to have - Oops!

I can remember with ds, when I was much more obedient about following the eating guidelines, really fantasising about having a meal of pate, rare steak, wine, and a cheese course with blue and soft cheeses after he was born!

awayinamuppet · 26/11/2006 11:46

Good for you Lunar - makes me feel better about the camembert I've been guzzling and the dolcelatte...

awayinamuppet · 26/11/2006 11:47

Am feeling hungry now...

MossletoeAndWine · 26/11/2006 11:53

Kitty, thanks for clarifiying that! I had visions of you getting half way out of woolies and thinking "hang on a min, I've forgotten something, now what was it, tinsel? a CD? Babygro? Oh I know, a child!" What age range are your five then? I would like three I think but dh keeps saying, "you've not even had one yet msmoss see how we go!"

So do you all think it is okay to have a bit of wine then? I have heard so many conflicting messages that I gave up all together, but I quite fancy a glass or two over Christmas - thoughts? Oh, and as for rare steak - mmmm [dribbling emoticon] I think I miss it more than sex

awayinamuppet I have read the kite runner and cried at the end! I suppose that's the one good thing about not being able to drive, I get throught about three books each week just on the train / bus journey!! Mil reads the same sort of books as me so it costs half what it should (our library is rubbish )

Rosydingdongmerrily · 26/11/2006 12:07

Mossletoe, I was about 30 when I eventually passed on the 4th test! I was so nervous, even now I'm not a confident driver sometimes.

Yesterday I nearly had an accident I was turning right out of a road and a row of cars were turning up into the road. When I drove out the car coming towards me wasn't turning! I'm not sure if his indicator had been on or what confused me but my sister screamed which caused me to break in his path Luckily I moved again quickly and he was going slow but My bump went into a contraction for about a whole minute.

Kitty I'm totally out of the whole work thing too, it seems like a strange foreign world now don't you think? Sometimes I miss the stimulation of working but not enough to want to go back. Not that I ever worked very hard anywhere!
Now I just fantasise about the artwork ,writing and ceramic masterpieces I'm going to create one day soon!
I have been watching x factor, it is lightweight (and yeah, abit of a farce) but entertaining, just on my level!

Fox I couldn't find the thread will probably come across it eventually, I like the sound of the warmed up m&s dinner, I'd like to come too (slurp) and join the book club where you don't talk about books....I read sometimes, but I usually can't put the book down and end up not sleeping etc so not read much recently apart from rereading the HarryPotter books and being very nerdish about them on the Harry Potter thread
Laidback I know what its like from Pakistan trips when its too hot and no electricity with kids....bit of a nightmare!

Rosydingdongmerrily · 26/11/2006 12:11

oops 25 weeks today!yay (boy)

awayinamuppet · 26/11/2006 12:13

Mossletoe - not a drop of alchohol passed my lips with my dd, then with ds I had the odd half glass and maybe the odd peice of cheese... now with this ds2 I am being terribly slack and probably need my wrist slapped

LunarSea · 26/11/2006 13:53

Mossletoe - they used to say one or two glasses of wine, once or twice a week, was ok. Now they seem to be saying none at all. I think I prefer the old guidelines!!! Or the French ones, which don't particularly seem to limit it!

Have a look at this article (written by Aloha, who used to be a regular mumsnetter if anyone remembers her).

kittyschristmascrackers · 26/11/2006 15:09

Rosy I love the Harry Potter books.
I feel very out of the whole work thing. I guess I'll do something eventually again once the youngest is at school, b ut it's tricky to know what and finding work that fts around holidays and school times.

Mossy mine range from 8 to 11 months. the current arrangement being 8,7,5,3 and 11 months. They have all recently changed ages iyswim.

It's as I thought with the whole food and drink thing. The Americans will always go over the top. I would rather be French (I don't often say that).
The article was interesting and reassuring. I also heard recently that the amount of alcohol that passes through from breast milk is minimal. The health implications come from being pissed in charge of a baby, rolling on it on the sofa when you fall asleep in a drunken stupour etc. etc.

Booboobedoo · 26/11/2006 16:32

That was a good article Lunar (I do remember Aloha. She didn't leave that long ago, did she?).

I have a glass of wine every couple of weeks. I just make sure I have it with a meal. If baby starts to make a fuss, I stop drinking it. Also have been scoffing peanuts.

I'm really going to miss my brie and grape at Christmas.

It'd be interesting to see a comparative study of ADD rates in the UK, the US and France. The link between drinking and ADD seems tenuous to say the least.

Kitty: so sorry about your friend. A girl I know lost her baby boy at 18 weeks (he was due at New Year). Very sad. I'd just fall apart if it was me. I feel like I know my baby boy already.

On a lighter note, has anyone got any ideas for a Christmas name for me? I don't want to change it until December 1st (stickler for tradition, me ), but I'm stuck for inspiration. I think I've chosen a really awkward nickname for myself.

EDD 3/3
26 weeks (3rd Trimester!)

LunarSeasonsGreetings · 26/11/2006 21:07

Rosydingdongmerrily · 26/11/2006 21:25

Or Hohohobedoo

leogaela · 26/11/2006 21:45

Fox - Switzerland progressive ! They do regional voting here on quite a regular basis and in one of the regions women only got the right to vote (on regional issues) in 1972! another story - when the person that opened up our local nursery went to the local goverment to get the permission she was told that they didn't want day care for children here, women should stay at home to look after their children and didn't need to be encouraged to go to work !... I could go on! However I love this country!

Rainbow sweetheart, I hope you are feeling better since Friday. Shame on that doula! We don't mind if you come here and have nothing happy to say, just hope that we can help you up a little.

sorry to cut short, but i've just notice the time (nealy 11pm is well past my bedtime!)! Will try to catch up properly tomorrow!
