Hi Careena, No, you don't sound bossy at all Will call my surgery. thanks.

MKG · 08/11/2006 13:43

silly question from silly American, what's a booking appointment?

largeginandtonic · 08/11/2006 13:47

Good afternoon everyone, sorry to hear a couple of you have some stress. Its just not on, all we want is to have a nice enjoyable prg, lets hope it all calms down for us all soon.

Ive eaten far too much today, had museli and bananna for brekki, then had bacon, sausages, egg and tomato. Then for lunch i just had 2 mini pitta with tarasmalata and a packet of crisps!! Can i even eat tarasmalata?! Ohmigod will be 12 sheets by next tuesday at this rate....

largeginandtonic · 08/11/2006 13:50

MKG booking in is the first time you see your midwife, she takes your entire medical history, including previous prg and write loads of notes. She leaves you with tons of information about prg and your prg notes that you carry around with you everywhere right through prg.

Did i put enough prg's in there, lol.

MKG · 08/11/2006 13:55

OK we have all that but that is just first visit stuff. We don't have special terms like you guys.

MKG · 08/11/2006 13:57

I thought it was when you registered at the hospital because here you can register and copy all your paperwork in your first trimester. That way husbands don't run around like idiots trying to get you signed in when you're in labor. But most people do it on line, Oh I can do that today. Yippie.

twelveyeargap · 08/11/2006 13:58

It's so you can literally be "booked a bed" in the hospital or birthing centre. It's where they take your first details about you. SOmetimes it's combined with taking bloods and a scan (mine was), sometimes you just go for a chat with the midwife and to be told the next steps.

Juicylucythe2nd · 08/11/2006 14:01

Haven't even had my booking in appt yet. Feeling very left out

My first appt is when I'm 13wks a week after my 12wk scan even though I'm classed as high risk because of my age. Heyho. Obviously not that high risk then!

Alright, I'm registered for the hospital. I love the internet.

Creena · 08/11/2006 14:29

It always surprises me how differentlt things are done in different parts of this country, let alone in comparison to other countries. I mean, we're all doing more or less the same thing (being pregnant), right? Mad, innit!

cinnamontam · 08/11/2006 14:32

Afternoon all
Had stressful day at work yesterday, then had to go a sit in with a friend having a disciplinary hearing at her work, had huge fight with DH and slept half the night on the couch to avoid punching his lights out. So I'm feeling FAB!
He's just turned up with a dozen red roses to apologise - bless his heart.
Other than that I feel sick, bloated, tired and stressed and farting like a trooper...so my usual sexy self. Ain't this fun
Mini rant over....

Jessinwa - I'm originally from Perth in Western Australia, then lived in Melbourne for 10 years before moving to London 2.5 years ago. I can't believe you are moving there!! You will loooooove the lifestyle but god damn it's hot in January. Get those light, cotton, floaty clothes out and whatever you do you MUST have aircon in what ever car you have. Very exciting - are you having your baby there? My best friend is an ER nurse in Perth and my sister is there and had 3 kids so if you have any questions at all don't hesitate to ask and I'll get the girls onto it for you.

JuiceLucy - This is my first and so far been trouble free so I've got no tips on what it might be. However from the little i know it does sound like it could be piles and not baby related. Good luck

I haven't done the loo paper test yet - my belly's natural state is something squishy and large so last thing i want to do is report oh yeah starting at 20 sheets ladies. I might just ease into it and have a go next week.

Hope everyone's day is going ok. We've a ways to go yet

cinnamontam · 08/11/2006 14:37

Oh i meant to ask. I'm flying to Australia next Saturday so will be 13+1 and then coming back 4 weeks later at 17+1. Have any of you done a long haul flight around that time? Other than the obvious moving around every few hours is there anything else I should be doing? It's a 24 hour flight all up so lots of time doing nothing and this time i can't pop sleeping pills and sleep through it!!

Any advice would be grand...ta

Juicylucythe2nd · 08/11/2006 14:55

Think you should invest in those lovely attractive support sock thingies - friend of mine got DVT and it ain't no fun having injections twice a day for the rest of your pg.

Other than that?? Try and book your seat on-line so you get a roomy one.

MKG · 08/11/2006 15:11

cinnamontam,

Don't sit close to the bathroom. I pity those poor souls after 24 hours.

cinnamontam · 08/11/2006 15:21

Good advice so far ladies

  1. Nasty support hose - tick
  2. Don't sit near bathroom - tick
  3. Comfy seat on aeroplane in Economy? Not going to happen...arghhh
twelveyeargap · 08/11/2006 15:24

My SIL came to Australia with us when she was 6.5 mths and flew back when she was 7.5 mths. Not a bother on her. Take some relaxing pillow spray to help you sleep. Drink lots of water, wear the VERY attractive flight socks and move around. You'll be fine.

When I did that flight, I didn't take any sleeping aids as I had my daughter with me and wanted to be reasonably alert. (I gave her a load of antihistamine to help her sleep ) There are so many movies, I didn't actually think it was that bad.

Deffo try to book a seat online though. Or if you can't get a good one now, check in online as soon as you're allowed to so you can nab a seat. Airline might be helpful if you call and explain anyway.

twelveyeargap · 08/11/2006 15:45

I thought the seats on BA were ok to Australia... But then I am tiny! And you might be on a different airline.

Take a bag or something on board that can go under your feet, if you think that will make you more comfortable.

There's a great website called Seatguru which tells you why you shouldn't choose certain seats.

Like for example, the seats at the back of a section if there is a hard partition behind them, probably won't recline at all. Very bad if you're on there for 24 hours!

cinnamontam · 08/11/2006 16:46

Thanks TYG

I'm going Qantas and although I'm a BA member when I called to see if I could book decent seats I discovered that they have already given me bulkhead seats all the way which is great! Pregnant or not unless i can get my feet up I am the grumpiest traveller in the world. I also travel everywhere with my pillow so I'll be doing my hardest to sleep as much as I can.

jessinwa · 08/11/2006 17:04

cinnamontam, thanks for the offer of help. i need it desperately. my mama lives in perth but didn't have her kids there and doesn't really know about how the system works. we will be under the public system because our private coverage will not start until two months after our visas come through. i have been trying to find a ob/gyn who is taking on public patients but have not been able to so far. i am looking to deliver at king edwards hospital. do you know which hospital your friend works in? it has been a huge stress trying to find a doctor and even finding information on birthing in oz has been a nightmare. i am so glad i can ask you some questions as they come up. do you think your sis or your friend have time to field a few questions from a stranger in america? i would be happy to give you my email if you think they wouldn't mind.
the only advice i can try to give you is bring as much good food (ie, dried fruit, nuts, choc) with you as possible and try to eat and drink through the whole thing. i traveled a lot when i was pregnant with munch and found that if i ate and drank i felt so much better. i don't know if they let you bring food on the plane there though. stupid regulations.
moomimin, i love charlie and lola.

moomimin · 08/11/2006 17:46

Evening all.

moomimin · 08/11/2006 17:47

Sorry, Morning Jess, Afternoon MKG.

largeginandtonic · 08/11/2006 17:49

I did a flight to New York when 6mths prg with DD and Mexico when 6 1/2 mths prg with DS #4. Was fine both times, but we managed to get a better seat with extra leg room at the check in as i was so prg. So def try that, a bit like being on your honeymoon upgrade. It doesnt hurt to ask! Drink lots and eat lots and get flight socks! Have lovely time though, am v jealous...

jessinwa · 08/11/2006 18:34

i hope i didn't scare cinnamontam off!
bonsoir moomimin.

jessinwa · 08/11/2006 18:42

i am being a VERY bad girl this week. i wasn't even going to tell you girls this because i am so embarrassed but what the hell. i had a beer the other night. and it was so good. right now i am enjoying some of the stinkiest cheese i have ever had. i won't even touch it with my bare fingers because i don't want my fingers to smell like i have been playing with poo. it is that stinky. it is pasteurized but i think some people still would think i am a bad girl for eating it. but it is heaven. my poor bean is probably like "what the hell is this?" they can taste stuff now can't they? did i just make that up? i think i'll go google that.

jessinwa · 08/11/2006 18:44

poor, poor fetus.
"By 13 to 15 weeks a fetus's taste buds already look like a mature adult's, and the amniotic fluid that surrounds the fetus can smell strongly of curry, cumin, garlic, onion, or other strong tastes from a mother's diet." from discovery health website. oops.
