Felt we might need a new thread to get through the night feeds and labours!

Oh gosh kismac! What a story. Congratulations and well done. Hope you and baby are doing ok.

RE baby noises - have to agree, DS is really snuffly and grunty in his sleep! He's always so content when asleep on or next to me (like now!).

FiRaffe my DS wind is the same... He has only been doing rabbit droppings for the past day too. Not sure what to do.

Anyone with boys - Do they always pee when you change their nappy?! He doesn't always do it at every nappy change but when he has it (obviously) goes everywhere and I try my hardest to catch it! Lol. Last night on the changing table he peed up the wall! Shock.

cinnamongreyhound · 03/05/2015 10:13

Ds1 did every change RL20, used to open his nappy to let the air in then close it while he pee'd then change him! Ds2 never did and ds3 has only a couple of times.

smogsville · 03/05/2015 10:15

RL my DS hasn't peed during a change yet (he's 17 days old). He did do a massive one in his first bath. If it wasn't for his soaking wet nappies I would be worried as have always heard this is a thing boys do.

smogsville · 03/05/2015 10:17

Oh and kismac congratulations and again sorry it wasn't how you would have wanted it but best of luck with first few days and BF. I had a similar reaction to anaesthetic after section with DD - teeth chattering etc - and it's far from pleasant. Not this time around oddly enough.

Wineandchoccy · 03/05/2015 10:26

Congratulations kismac sorry it wasn't what you had planned but im glad she is here safe. Lovely name as well.

Another one with a windy/colicky baby and an emotional mum last night she was screaming for ages last night and I burst into tears because I hate seeing her so upset. DH took her off me and sent me to bed because I was knackered which wasn't helping. I feel much better this morning it's amazing how some sleeps makes everything better.

Going to have a quiet day today and only visitor I'm expecting is my nephew who wants to push the pram out. My mum is looking after him today so might feed dd and then they can take her out and I can have a rest.

ChickenMe · 03/05/2015 10:31

Congrats kismac and I'm sorry it was all a bit Traumatic. Back to back is a right bugger.
I really can't bear snot smogsville even the sight of one of those aspiratiors makes me feel funny.
I don't think DD has a great deal of wind then Fi she doesn't really do that. She farts a lot lol like her mother.
She did two hour stretches last night so I feel ok today. When I'm tired I just fall apart.

smogsville · 03/05/2015 11:20

You're not wrong Chicken, it's truly hideous but I find the noise marginally more irritating.

DH has taken DD to church which is vital on a rainy day as she has an hour or so playing at the crèche with lots of the same children she's at nursery with. And he can sit quietly not being bothered by anyone and have a little doze. Then we have duck for lunch which I am in charge of but DH had prepped vegetables so bulk of work is done. Gave DS his third bath just now and he is looking delightful in a white sleep suit covered in tiny stars. Rare moment of calm in our house!

daholster · 03/05/2015 11:53

Congratulations kismac, just glad you are both safe, however she arrived she's here Smile Flowers

Exhausted and crick in neck last 3 days getting worse, adds a layer onto my tiredness and tickly throat which pushes me over to grumpy tearfulness. I won't be able to turn my head right at all soon though I know most important is to keep it moving. I know it's probably to do mainly with breastfeeding position so trying hard to make sure he's high enough on pillows but in bed it's impossible to feel supported. Need an upstairs chair or to go downstairs I think.

Dh is developing the cold I'm trying to get. I am unreasonably annoyed that he is going to be ill again and I'm going to have to be more self sufficient again despite feeling crap myself. I'm so selfish! [embarrassed]

Ds's nappy rash is better, reflux isn't yet. So is that the cream or the diet???

We have 2 days of no plans which is very hard work with a 2 year old. They constantly need attention and something to do and dh and I feel totally pathetic!!! I may also have hurt my neck a little carrying ds and dd at the same time...

Lauren82000 · 03/05/2015 12:15

Congrats Kismac, it may not have gone how you wanted it but I have come to the conclusion perfect births are few and far between. At least you now have your baby for snuggling and you will get over your trauma soon enough.

RL- DD does wee quite a bit when we take her nappy off but we have the opposite problem as the wee goes down instead of fountain we sometimes miss that it's happened and only when you go to fasten her vest back up do you discover she is soaked! Shock

daholster · 03/05/2015 12:33

Oh yes ds weeks nearly every change as well as pooing constantly throughout, so frustrating!!! Dh told me off in the night for "berating" our three week old when it's not his fault. I find it so frustrating in the night when I am so tired though and it gets so messy and I go through a million nappies and a change of clothes trying to change one nappy!!!

He then made the mistake of saying if anything it was my fault not the baby's because of what I am feeding him Angry

daholster · 03/05/2015 12:35

Oh yes and the dairy free diet sucks!!!!

No left over birthday cake or biscuits is v hard when they are all out everywhere... And I'd love a white coffee. I. Rubbish at this! Though have stuck with it so far... Despite dh's somewhat misplaced comments... Angry

RL20 · 03/05/2015 13:13

Going to brave my first shower home alone soon! Home alone with DS, that is.
Need to colour my hair so that gives me a half an hour gap to figure out what to do and where to put DS?! I'm sure it will be the quickest shower I've ever had in my life so far.

Debating whether to take him out in the pram on my own too, if the weather holds out as it's been raining here.

Thinking of calling one of the numbers on my discharge notes about Max straining when he poos/trying to poo. Midwife not coming until Tuesday and don't like seeing him in what I think is pain, and the poos are like rabbit droppings. Hmm

Lauren82000 · 03/05/2015 13:27

Daholster poor you and your diet but well done for sticking to it. Men can be very unfeeling in their comments sometimes. Some babies are just pooey babies doesn't matter what you feed them. Wink

RL I'd definitely give someone a ring, hard poo is not quite right in a newborn. They may send you to out of hours doctors for some kind of laxative. (Do they give laxatives to babies?) could be constipation. Feed plenty to make sure it's not dehydration in the meantime.

Lauren82000 · 03/05/2015 13:48

Dare I get excited? It did not hurt when DD just latched on the right boob Smile do we reckon it's toughened up or just a fluke?

Speaking of weeing and nappy changes, I just jinxed DH when he was changing DD. I asked him if she ever poo'd on him mid change. Que massive wee and big wet fart. Necessitated a full change before we go out. Grin Which I have just been informed we are walking to the pub for late lunch/early dinner. Hmm Weather isn't great but at least it has stopped raining.

BrixtonBunny · 03/05/2015 14:15

RL I think newborn poos should be nice and wet, so I'd call someone just to check? As Lauren said it could be a sign of dehydration so make sure he's drinking lots and isn't too hot. I'm afraid I don't know much about formula feeding, but it might be worth trying a different brand of newborn milk in the meantime? As apparently lots of babies don't get on with certain brands of milk. Good luck!

Lauren hurrah for non-painful feeding!

Daholster I would have been livid if my DP said that to me!!

DD wees most changes but we put a towel under her every change so if she wees it doesn't tend to make it to her vest and then we can just pop it in the wash. Am doing a lot of laundry!!

Can't believe DD is three weeks today! Madness.

DP is finally painting the spare room today whilst DD cluster feeds (woo hoo Hmm) , so our task is to order a comfy bed to put in it. He goes back to work Thursday so it would be good for him to have somewhere else to sleep if DD has a bad night. Hoping he will have finished soon and then we can go out and try and catch a glimpse if the sun before it disappears entirely.

RL20 · 03/05/2015 16:03

Max has whati think is a small rash on back of his neck that I noticed when winding him but he has a lot of hair so it's hard to tell when I did ten glass test whether it fades or not. Oh is on way back from work so he is going to help me check, if he thinks the same then a trip to hospital Sad Worried

RL20 · 03/05/2015 16:04

He has no fever or anything else

PenguinPoser · 03/05/2015 16:39

Is he otherwise ok in himself RL? If you're in any doubt you can ring 111 for advice.

OP posts:
RL20 · 03/05/2015 16:45

Yes I think so penguin. I feel like I'm doubting myself though, no idea what to think! I rang 111 earlier about the poos (they gave me a wrong number for my local midwives - i told them what city I was in and they have me another cities number!) and haven't rang them yet as I've gone back to his other milk (not the hungry baby milk) to see if it makes a difference as it's less stodgy. I would rather feed him constantly and him poo properly.
So I'm debating whether to ring them about the rash now. He has no temperature to touch, looks normal, etc. I think if I was going to ring I'd probably just go down to the hospital anyway as even if they told me over the phone not to bother, I probably still would. Arghh

IvegotaCaveTroll · 03/05/2015 17:22

RL- don't doubt urself. U r doing well- it's just that it's all new. And u care so much that he is well and happy.
If ur worried go to a and e- lots of parents do in the early days. When I worked in a and e I always said to parents it's better to be over cautious with little ones. No medical staff will ever say ur wasting their time when its a baby. Just do what u need to do.

RL20 · 03/05/2015 17:29

Thank you. We are going to the hospital soon so will update later

Hidingthefear · 03/05/2015 18:12

RL yes I had stitches but haven't seen them myself. I had perineal tear, anal tear and labial lacerations. Only had 2 mw's look at them and apparently they looked fine. Have you had to take laxatives? I think theyre stopping working and i'm scared to go number 2 now :s
And yes, Maxwell has developed a great habbit of peeing all over himself when I change him, he's peed on the wall, the changing mat, the floor, me. I think it's the cool air that makes there willies want to work :/ (he's also pooped with his nappy off and today pooed in his bath, I then tipped it on myself when I went to empty it Sad )
Re the rash, has mw seen it? DS had a rash on his belly and then it moved to his back and I was told it was totally normal and only to worry if it went pussy or oozy, or he seemed ill in any other way, but it went by itself. She said its sometimes just a reaction to being in the outside world. If your unsure or worried have it looked at. They won't mind and it might put your mind at rest.

Congratulations Kismac!! sorry things didn't go to plan but glad to hear baby is here and safe.

BrixtonBunny · 03/05/2015 18:15

RL as I said before I don't know much about formula, but I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to give little babies the "hungry baby" milk. www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/types-of-infant-formula.aspx The NHS website suggests that casein-based formula marketed for "hungry babies" shouldn't be given to young babies. I'm not trying to alarm you at all but maybe check with your doctor if it's ok to give it to Max? Sure his rash is nothing but best to get it checked. Xx

Hidingthefear · 03/05/2015 18:23

ooo yay Lauren on the feeding!! I was so pleased when my nipples weren't blistered and scabby!
my boobs don't fel full and hard anymore but when he's due feeding and cries i get a funny hard feeling behind my nipples. it's a really odd feeling and then it goes.

I know i should probably know this but how many times should the MW see you after birth. I've had 1 the day after i came home and 1 at day 5 and thats it. Got a letter saying health visitor would come on Tuesday but then one turned up on Friday, and she said i'd get a message on tuesday with an appointment. so now i'm really confused :s

FiRaffe · 03/05/2015 18:31

Hope all is okay RL
