Felt we might need a new thread to get through the night feeds and labours!

Lauren82000 · 30/04/2015 08:01

I'm sure someone at some point told me Penguin. I'm sure I didn't just pull it out of thin air. Smile

Don't tell DH but I fell asleep feeding at just after 4.30am and woke up at 7! I was lying down on my side so not too bad but I do feel slightly guilty, mainly because she fell asleep on her side which is a no no. Do feel rather refreshed though so don't think I'll feel guilty for long. Wink

RL20 · 30/04/2015 08:08

Well since my last post, DS let me have an hour and a half sleep which was nice. Fed and changed now so hoping he might need another little sleep soon!...
OH is helping where he can but works 5/6am until 7/8pm but has started earlier today so he can get back earlier to help. He is off tomorrow as he has a funeral to go to early afternoon so I'm hoping that I might get a little bit of a lie in!

RE contraception - I won't be having any more children anytime soon but also don't like contraception. I'm not a fan of having things 'inserted' anywhere for long periods of time (probably due to the fact that I've never used tampons so a bit squeamish) and also not a fan of the pill which I was on before. Thinking of sticking to condoms but do need to have another read through of the options.

LittleGreyCat and smog you are both very lucky with those routines Grin.

RL20 · 30/04/2015 08:10

Lauren I did the same the other day and felt awful. Early morning and DS was on his back but on the side of the bed and not middle, I had been feeding but had stopped and fell sleep - DS too. Must have only been for a few minutes as OH woke me up when he came back into the bedroom as he was getting ready for work. It did make me realise that I need more sleep because I don't even remember falling asleep or trying not to! Shock

cinnamongreyhound · 30/04/2015 08:21

I was falling asleep while typing on here last night Lauren82000! I feed in my nursing chair and have fallen asleep with him on my chest after winding as well as him feeding. I wouldn't worry too much about it!

Sam was quite unsettled last night and dh thinks he's cold. I was freezing getting up to feed him so would make sense, he wants me to put him in his sleeping bag despite not being heavy enough. Will see how much he's gained when we get him weighed today and decide then!

FiRaffe · 30/04/2015 08:26

Oh ladies, i've fallen asleep with DS on my chest... He just rolls towards me if I put him on the mattress. I'm sure you are subconsciously aware they are there. DH woke up in the night searching under the duvet panicking where DS was while he was tucked up in his basket - he hasn't been between us or near the duvet once!

Taking DS to the doctors today to see if we can get his breathing checked and some help with the colic. The appointment is at 9.20 though so going to be a manic half hour getting the ready!

daholster · 30/04/2015 08:40

fi I drink lots of squash. I wonder why squash??? Maybe I'll do that next, one thing at a time. I won't mind if he's just allergic to squash!!! Grin cinnamon you are right, I'm torn between desperate for it to work and not wanting him burdened with any sort of food allergy. Well, any allergy! But dairy is a pain to cut out for him especially as he gets older and will want stuff, poor thing. I don't want him to have to check packets his whole childhood! Dr recommended the canesten. Who knows.

Ds slept between midnight and 2am, then from 02.30-05.30 so can't complain. He was awake til 7am, fed and is asleep again. Dd still asleep too, is supposed to be at nursery, but too peaceful to disturb... Doing first day in my own today, dh has gone walking in Wales for the day so I'm doing nursery run etc myself.

Only I'm not, because they are all in bed!

I'm blooming starving and there is pretty much only dry toast and honey I can eat!!! Must get to the shop today!!!

Oh, was just thinking of reheating my coffee so now ds is grunting and dd is wriggling!!! Typical!!! Hmm

daholster · 30/04/2015 08:41

Oh and fi good luck at the Dr, hope everything is OK.

roastpots · 30/04/2015 09:47

Thanks for the nipple shield advice. I'm looking forward to trying them when they arrive!

Penguin I had the same trouble with progesterone only contraception so now use the copper coil. I had it put back in after DD1 was 12 weeks and will do the same this time. I think it's a great form of contraception - very reliable but no hormones and no faffing with condoms! Trying to persuade DH to go for the snip now we've had our second but he's not keen!

PenguinPoser · 30/04/2015 09:57

FiRaffe what was the concern about squash? I'm drinking gallons of the stuff (no added sugar obv!) so hope it's ok! Don't find water very interesting. Hope things are ok at the doctors.

Fair enough Lauren Smile I wouldn't have considered waiting for the check but then again I've always been a bad patient!! When I've fed lying down in bed and we've both fallen asleep dd has slept on her side too. Worried me slightly but when I've rolled her onto back she's always woken up and cried! My mum always says "it never did you any harm!" As she always used to put me on my side to sleep!

Glad you got a little sleep RL and hopefully a lie in tomorrow.

It has been cold at night cinnamon I had to put the heating on the other night when I was up feeding! Need to check the weight limits on my sleeping bags for dd and see when I can start using them. She just gets wrapped in a blanket at the moment but often kicks it off especially when she's in a light sleep.

Daholster reheat that coffee! Glad you got some rest too.

Hmm roastpots not gonna lie I'm a bit terrified of having it put in! Will definitely consider it though as its really the only reliable non hormonal option Confused

smogsville · 30/04/2015 10:07

You can defo get from newborn sleeping bags, I have one a present from DH's family in New Zealand when dd born.

roastpots · 30/04/2015 10:16

I think they go in a lot easier after you've had a baby penguin!

BrixtonBunny · 30/04/2015 10:21

I loved having a coil, that was my contraception of choice for 8 years. Those nervous about it, after having a baby I can't imagine it would feel very invasive! It's really not that bad. I had a hormonal one before but will be switching to a copper coil this time round. It's lush not having to worry about contraception for years once it's in.

I think they say that about squash as it's acidic so can lead to tummy discomfort - same thing with citrus fruit juice. I've been drinking loads of sparkling water which is a bit more interesting than tap water.

DD is sleeping in little stretches at night, though I tend to wake up when she's already awake. She lies there burbling and making cute baby noises - feel a bit guilty ignoring her by sleeping but she seems fine, I wake up before she cries.

DD gets put down on her back but ends up on her side, I wouldn't worry about it as if they can get there, they can roll back onto their backs!

Going to a fancy restaurant tonight in covent garden for MIL birthday. Slightly Hmm as DD currently likes to cluster feed all evening but will just have to hope the chairs are comfy so I can feed her throughout the meal if I have to! At least boobs are convenient Wink

BrixtonBunny · 30/04/2015 10:23

Daholster do you like porridge? You could try that with almond / coconut / oat / rice milk? Being on a restrictive diet whilst knackered and dealing with children can't be fun though. Deffo ban DH from eating icecream!

cinnamongreyhound · 30/04/2015 11:06

We went to Pizza Hut Monday BrixtonBunny (not quite a swanky restaurant!) and Sam slept on my mum the whole evening, despite me expecting to feed him for the whole meal!!

I agree about the copper coil PenguinPoser, I didn't have any problems at all having it fitted. I wasn't having periods when I had it in so didn't bleed for a while. I have friends who've had some cramping after it was fitted but you do just forget about it once it's in. I had heavier periods for the first few months but then they were heavier after ds1 and my first one after ds2 I already had the coil in so could have contributed. Once you've had a baby having a coil fitted is nothing Wink

Hope you solo day goes well daholster!

Sam has gained 15oz since last Tuesday so I feel better now and he's 4.05kg so should be fine in sleeping bag Grin

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 30/04/2015 11:25

Sorry to hear about your poor bub daholster, I hope he feels better soon!

Midwife just visited and DD is finally back to birth weight on day 14! In fact a whole 10g over! But that's 100g gained since Sunday so not too bad... discharged from the midwife so all good! Grin

RL20 · 30/04/2015 11:31

DS let me have another couple of hours sleep this morning which was nice, although he was on the bed in the middle (propped up) so that probably explains it. Not sure he would have been the same if he was in his Moses basket! Only time will tell I suppose.

Finally getting my mum to bring the pram over with her today as it's been at her house. She had the honour of taking him out in it the other day for the first time as I needed sleep, so me and oh want to take him out in it this weekends if the weathers ok. Has anyone else done many pram walks yet?
Haven't been very eager to as yet as midwife said to take it easy to let stitches heal properly.

I have let DS fall asleep on me again after having his feed and now I've got to disturb him to get up Confused. I never learn.

RE sleeping bags I have only come across ones to be used from 8lbs 8oz and he was 7.7 born and 7.9 the other day so not quite there yet. Any ideas on where to get a smaller one from? Or shall I just wait, hmm.

smogsville · 30/04/2015 11:46

DS drinking me dry... Am sitting in kitchen reading private eye while he feeds, not too bad a way to pass the time! But I now need a biscuit or something to keep me going.

Lauren82000 · 30/04/2015 11:49

Feeling rafter refreshed now. DH just brought DD back upstairs to feed. She is ravenous poor sausage. Smile

Somehow have to get ready to leave the house and have lunch in 40mins not sure how that's going to work if she is still guzzling. Least she is in second boob now so shouldn't be too long.

FiRaffe · 30/04/2015 12:27

Doctor was happy with DS. His lungs were fine and she was relatively sympathetic about the colic but a bit 'stupid worrying mum'....

The squash thing was just one of the things on the nhs advice page to try avoiding for breastfeeding babies with colic. Not sure why, but I drank loads too.

daholster · 30/04/2015 12:29

I love my little pickle. He's snoozing on my shoulder in the feeding room at m&s. His newborn acne is out in full force along with all manner of gurning faces but people are still telling me he's gorgeous Smile

Oh, he just woke up and chundered a huge thick sick down my shoulder. Ho hum. Hmm

I look like a TOTAL state. And I hum. Sweaty, yuck. Still, poor bra fitting lady put up with it, now I have nursing bras that fit!!! Hooray! And a new pair of knickers... Grin And some new vest tops so I can use my normal clothes for feeding, pull one up one down, I'm fed up with feeding tops that still expose half your boob or have the hole in the wrong place for my nipple! My nips are not on the side... Or on the top!!!

I have now washed my armpits in the feeding room and put a new vest top on. I still look a mess. And I'm starving. Wonder what the cafe has dairy free?

Tesco next for party rings and hats and infacol and stuff for dd's keyworkee now she is moving rooms. And almond milk and oatly... Found put I can still have coco pops! And yes I like porridge so can try that too Smile

kismac · 30/04/2015 12:52

Well done on the weight gain!

Happy birthday Wine. Hope you have a lovely day. Enjoy your dinner out Brixton.

Sounds like a successful shopping trip Daholster.

My friend had her baby this morning. A little boy, 8lb 4 and I only feel a wee pang of jealously. He he. Actually decided that I don't want baby to come today as DH is taking me to Harvester before my induction tomorrow and I really want a sundae.

cowbiscuits · 30/04/2015 14:22

Afternoon everyone! Glad to hear you're getting out and about to places!

Daholster, hope you're not struggling too much with the dairy free diet, hope your little one starts to feel better soon.

Quiet day here. Had a bad night, little one slept much of the evening despite me undressing him and trying to get him to feed, so instead wouldnt sleep and wanted to feed, burp, poop, feed burp poop all night. So I got hardly any sleep. We went back to sleep for a bit during the morning, then more feeding, cuddling etc, so in the end I only got up and showered at midday.

My milk has come in since this morning.

Lauren82000 · 30/04/2015 14:33

Little one is making the most of it Cowbiscuits.

I'm currently sat feeding in a soft play. It's smells like wee in here Confused have to book DDs party though so we let her play for a few hours while we are here.

PenguinPoser · 30/04/2015 14:49

Wow cinnamon - 15oz in a week! What's your secret? I thought 6oz was good ConfusedGrin

Daholster that sounds like a mixed trip out, at least you have good bras!

Enjoy the harvester kismac- free salad bar Grin
