nature, sounds as though you got a great birth and fantastic you got a mw that allowed you to do what you needed and wanted. I'm hoping I get one like that too. I had a bleed in early labour last time so ended up being monitored throughout and although I was delighted with my birth - no drugs, just plenty of yoga breathing and visualising - I would like to be able to move about a bit more this time or try other positions. My bmi is high but otherwise I'm low risk so I'd love to have a sympathetic mw who will let me try water this time too. I may hate it and I've heard it can sometimes slow things down but I would love to try because this will be our last baby and it fits with my crunchy parenting style

I've been worried this morning ladies. Baby not moved for about three or four hours now. Yesterday, I felt really off, not ill or like labour was coming, but just not right. However, baby was going mental for pretty much the whole day so I knew she/he was fine. Typing this, I may have just felt a faint kick actually! What would you girls suggest? I'm 29+4 today.

small, I felt the same as you do about work towards the end/beginning of mat leave in sight. I was becoming so frustrated with stupid people and ridiculous requests, plus how it became perfectly clear, when readying for my mat leave, that my boss had absolutely no idea what it was I did all day and how much work I had on! This was proved by them having to employ three people to cover my one job while I was on leave! Anyway, I went back part time (two full days a week) after nine months and resigned after four weeks. I had always been very much a career girl, professional and focused, worked damn hard every minute I was in the office and did everything that was asked of me....but becoming a mummy changed my outlook on things and although I loved what I did (PR), I just couldn't be bothered with all the office bullshit, ass kissing, back stabbing and general unprofessionalism of many of my colleagues... and I wasn't interested in who said what to who or if so and so had a pay rise but her colleague didn't etc etc. So instead, I decided to become a sahm and set up a very small PR and marketing consultancy and work about ten or 12 hours a month. Best thing I ever did. So this mega longwinded ramble is basically to say, hang in there, let it wash over you and just visualise those lovely months on mat leave with your gorgeous baby xxx

Broody, I've had a few recent wobbles too. if I start to have a panic moment of not feeling movements for while then I lie down and press into my bump (just hard / deep enough so baby can feel it) to try and make him respond and wait to see if get a poke back. Can take a few good old prods from me (probably waking him up!) but always got one back. Which helped reassure me.

Or try the lie down, v cold water / drink and wait to see. Then keep v close eye of what you feel over generally next few hours and trust your instincts. If you don't feel right about it go get checked.

Did those faint kicks an hr ago turn into more?

it's never silly to worry but defo monitor. I also found a little note book and started actually writing down the times I felt things (did this Tues and Weds as he seems v quiet over bank hol) just a v simple list of times. He then decided to move like every hour those days! but found it v reassuring to see it written down in black and white when I last felt something and how many times in the day. Our preggo brains probably forget actually and go into panic stations far too easily... Might be good way to reassure you over next few days. I only did it those two days but will do again if I feel the need to keep eye on it again...

I am so in love with my baby already...

MustBeLoopy390 · 08/05/2015 16:16

Very upset and annoyed at my sil! She's just admitted to me that she hasn't quit smoking and drinking and the consultants think this is what's causing all her issues, baby has barely grown and her placenta is failing. I've said that im glad they know what it going on and that they are keeping an eye on things, and left it at that. But I'm furious that she lied to me about quitting because she knows how I feel considering my first baby was lost to something I could (possibly) have prevented! She doesn't need me telling her how stupid she has been so I'm just going to be polite and civil for dh and his family.

Fattycow · 08/05/2015 16:38

loopy, I can completely understand that you are spitting mad! But I agree that flying of the handle won't do any good, so well done on being polite.

Zampa · 08/05/2015 16:39

Broody If you've noticed significant changes that last longer than 24 hours, IRS worth getting checked. The midwives were so lovely and understanding with me. Being monitored for 30 minutes and seeing all was OK was very reassuring. It also helped me to know that the reasons behind why I want feeling very much.

Fattycow · 08/05/2015 16:41

My best friend was told she was infertile, but by some miracle she did conceive. She then went on to smoke throughout her pregnancy, knowing full well that this would most likely be the only child she would ever have. Nothing I could do about the smoking, but I did tell her off when she hid her smoking from her husband. It made me so angry!

MustBeLoopy390 · 08/05/2015 17:13

I honestly can put my hands up and say that before I have had my positive tests I have smoked and drank with all my pregnancies, but have quit sensibly as soon as I have known. She knows how much guilt I have over the beginning of this pregnancy and she just doesn't seem to care about anyone but herself. On a brighter note I've finally been referred for physio, ds has started nursery (I cried) and dd has been moved up a reading level again so all her hard work is paying off :)

Luckystar82 · 08/05/2015 18:52

nature sounds like a lovely birth experience, will consider looking into hypnobirthing if it's not too onerous to practice it.

smallgreen just let work stuff wash over you and think about the time off you'll enjoy with lo! When you go back it will be a fresh start and people/ work might have changed a bit anyway

Lewaney3 · 08/05/2015 19:36

Hi everyone,

Just popping onto say hello and have a catch up with the thread. :)

broody I'm not an expert by any means but my twin on right was a lot less active on Tuesday night and I just felt "off". I called in and was told to pop straight in for a check up... Midwives were really lovely and telling me I'd done the absolutely right thing by coming in. It was literally 30 minute check over and reassuring to see everything was fine... I'd defo say if you don't feel right or baby doesn't "feel" like it normally does. Get yourself checked out. Just for peace of mind :) I hope I haven't come across as patronising... :)

Also my greatest sympathies to all those still doing commutes/long days of work... I'm struggling to sit upright or walk for more than 30 minutes without pains and shortness of breath!
28 + 3 today... 37 weeks will be full term for twins so I'm into single digits already!

Also wondering what changing bags you're all using? There's such a huge variety and price range. I just want something big enough with rooms for double of everything! And not plain black colour.

broodylicious · 09/05/2015 13:18

Quick update from me - by about 3ish yday, I felt some more definite movements and by tea time, back to normal. Today, she/he has been quite active and playing with the cord and jumping on my bladder. Just had pea and ham soup for lunch and it feels as though bubs loves it, judging by the somersaults and other squirmy and punchy activity going onSmile

lewaney i bought a melobaby changing kit as great reviews on amazon and it arrived today and i love it. really simple little wallet you can chuck in any of your existing bags. dh asked me to buy him one too! he wasn't keen to be carrying round a "proper" change bag so this seems like a good compromise. I'm planning to bf so hopefully won't need to carry round bottles etc right off.

BadIdeaBear · 09/05/2015 16:44

What amazing timing, charlie! I've literally just been looking through Amazon and checking our wish lists and stuff, and was umming and ahing over changing bags and whether they are worth it. This little kit looks really interesting, especially since I'm hoping to breast feed too.

MustBeLoopy390 · 09/05/2015 17:29

Cot and basket ready for little man :) regarding changing bag I'm not sure which one we are getting yet, dh likes backpack style ones though so we're just keeping an eye out atm

BadIdeaBear · 09/05/2015 17:39

It's the Babymule that we had on our wish list - that does rucksack style, messenger bag and pushchair handles. Looks good and there doesn't seem to be much else out there like it. But I was worried that it was trying to do too much at once and some reviewers seem to agree... And it's a ludicrous price for a rucksack as well, of course...!

broodylicious · 09/05/2015 17:54

I'll have a new koodi changing box that fits inside any other bag I want to use. Little nappies, wipes, cream, bags and a thin mat is all you need when out and about (if you're bfing anyway). I'd rather put money towards decent carrier/sling personally!

I am feeling very confused and disorganised tonight about buggies. We went to have a last look at the 2015 vista today, pretty set on buying it, and the shop assistant did her level best to talk us out of it. It didn't help that dd was nearly too tall at 18 months! However it is supposed to be one of the biggest out there so not sure what would be better.
The lady tried to sell us an out and about but we weren't keen but now we are stuck between a city mini jogger (side by side) and the original vista. I think we might already have left this a bit late but does anybody know much about either of them?

Naturegirl82 · 09/05/2015 20:44

purple I have an original vista. Are you looking for a double or thinking buggy board? I'm planning buggy board/sling but not intending on buying the rumble seat for now as I'm not sure that we will use it that much. Are the seats smaller on the new vista then?

Toastandmarmiteallday · 09/05/2015 20:44

Also looking at changing bags at the mo. Quite liking the look of PacaPods but as a FTM not sure. Does anyone have any advice?

Thepurplegiraffe · 09/05/2015 21:10

Nature we are thinking of converting to a double until dd is ready for more walking and is a little more controllable which works for the new vista but not the old I think. I think the new seats are bigger if anything but we seem to have created a child with an abnormally long body! Having said that DH (not the shop assistant) discovered that you can raise the hood so it should be ok for a while.
That I guess is the advantage of the vista, that we can convert back to a single when ready, but dd will have to be rear facing for a while which she won't be keen on. She sat in the seat for ages in the shop though, which is unusual for her.

broodylicious · 09/05/2015 21:15

Pregnancy safe cooling foot spray - does anyone have any recommendations? My feet are so hot and swollen by the end of the day, it's horrid. Hate having warm feet at the best of times, but right now it's even more horrible.

Hi broody I'm a big fan of the body shop cooling peppermint foot spray! It's also nice to take on holiday. They do a leg gel too although not used that as much xx

broodylicious · 10/05/2015 07:44

Thanks jen, I will give that a try. I've not been in the body shop for years! Do they still do white musk? That was my first ever perfume when I was about ten!
