I haven't posted for a while.. Hope everyone is well
I have been lurking and trying to keep up
Bought a changing bag and mattress from online4baby using the codes from Emma's diary and only cost me £56!! Bargain the bags an okie dog and the mattress is sprung, and it was free 24hr delivery (don't work for them by the way just love a bargain!!)
30 weeks tommorow, finish work in 2 weeks
Is everyone else ready?
Have my WC vaccination Monday
Started being sick again, oh the joys of pregnancy SmileSmile

Fattycow · 24/04/2015 16:34

Hi Tilly, nice to see you again!

broodylicious · 24/04/2015 18:24

Hello again tilly waves I do love a good bargain! I've joined a few baby clubs just for the freebiesSmile dd loved the cuddly cow you get from cow and gate, slept with it for pretty much 18 months!

fatty, do you have to pay for the nurse? I'd hate sharing those first few days with a virtual stranger, but I can see the benefits for ftm.

We missed the birth classes with dd, had her a week before my class. We weren't offered them with ds or with this baby Sad started natal hypnotherapy today though Grin I'm feeling quite anxious about the birth this time mainly because of the last two, hoping hypnotherapy helps, going to try to stay as calm as possible and try not to worry about anything much. We're sorting our birth kit (and the transfer or 'oh shit kit' as dh calls it Grin) over the next few weeks so it's all in place by 36 weeks (dd was 'early') birth pool is due to arrive at 37 weeks too. Getting quite excited to meet the little fella now :)

meeskamooska · 25/04/2015 00:14

Ooh I haven't thought about a changing bag tilly that's something else to look for now! I've got my wc jab next week too, I'm not looking forward to a sore arm at all, but I suppose if little babies can be brave for their jabs so can I.

mustbeloopy are you having a water birth at home? That sounds quite lovely actually, have you had a home/ water birth before?

broodylicious · 25/04/2015 08:10

Think I may treat myself to a new changing bag too. I had a yummy mummy/pink lining bag last time but sold it.

must, I've downloaded a hypnobirthing app and have enjoyed it. I'd love a water birth at home, too much of a scaredy cat though.

I bought DP an OiOi changing bag for Valentine's Day. Very romantic

www.oioibaby.co.uk/index.php?s=collection&p=OiOi%20Man,220

It's lovely and very practical and not remotely feminine. Managed to find it cheaper too (Amazon I think).

charlieis30 · 25/04/2015 09:02

those oioi bags are really nice...maybe i should get one for dh. im thinking I'll get a paca pod bag but also thinking about just getting the pods and using a bag i already have

MustBeLoopy390 · 25/04/2015 09:16

Yes going for a home water birth, and no I've had 2 high dependancy labours due to 'failure to progress' which we're hoping a home birth will help us avoid. Plus we can't get to the second nearest maternity unit and we have decided that we will only be going into the nearest one if its necessary because of the way they were with the last two :/ I just don't feel like I can trust them and feel extremely uncomfortable and very nervous even going for scans/appointments there. I really need to look for a changing bag too Confused that slipped my mind completely. How big are the OiOi ones?

meeskamooska · 25/04/2015 10:41

That's a real shame must that you can't trust your local unit. I hope it all works out for you at home, I'm sure you'll be much more relaxed and comfortable in your own home, so fingers crossed you'll progress better too.

smallgreenbanana · 25/04/2015 11:39

Just got back from NCT Nearly New Sale - bought some cute newborn clothes with ducks and elephants on, and a book on the first year. Buying stuff is too fun!! Grin

JoY007 · 25/04/2015 12:39

Hello Ladies,

Hope everyone is feeling great. I have a dinner party tonight, looking forward to it, but tiredness not helping. Getting nails down to treat myself.

Finally had a message left by midwife last night after 3 messages I left them. GTT results clear but my HB is 10.9 according to mw not bad but advised to start taking iron supplements.

Already take seven seas preg suppl now suspecting that is enough. Perhaps explains why I am sometimes so tired.
So I am going to treat myself to some whole food shopping tomorrow kale juice, kale and some lovely nuts. Dinner now is steak spinach and kale. Grin
I was eating all these before but I suspect with my daily exercise routine not enough for my body as baby zaps it all Sad.

Oh dear I fell off the Fred !

Just checking in, had a manic couple of days...
Starting to settle back down again. Hope everyone is well. Will read back now.

Happy weekend :)

Fattycow · 25/04/2015 14:25

broody, your insurance (which is mandatory) pays for most of it and you pay 4 euro an hour yourself.
I cannot imagine not having a postnatal nurse. She won't do anything you don't want her to, but the benefits of having a medical professional at home a few hours each day for the first 10 days are huge. From making sure mum and baby are okay, to helping with breastfeeding, to making your meals, to doing household chores: she does it all.
I especially like the health aspect of the nurse. She will check how your fanny/section wound is healing and if anything is amiss, she will immediately contact the midwife/hospital. She also checks the baby for jaundice and will make sure it gets enough milk.
The postnatal nurses keep into the background mostly. They won't come sit with you and your visitors (unless you ask her), but she just goes on with the chores. However, she will send your visitors away if she can see that you really need to rest. Her main priority is health of the mum and child and she won't care about offending 'uncle James' by asking him to leave.

charlieis30 · 25/04/2015 15:29

fatty my dutch friends swore by theirs. It was the fact they raved about them so mych that we actually ended up deciding to hire one privately here in the uk, it's meant that i feel really calm and confident about the first few weeks, knowing we are going to have someone to help and give advice etc, from the day we leave the hosp.

meeskamooska · 25/04/2015 17:55

Wow she'll cook and do housework fatty ! I don't think I'd like a stranger around the house either BUT I can't deny that would be really helpful.

smallgreenbanana I've loved buying sweet little baby things too, I'm kind of sad I've got most things now and need to stop shopping!

Zampa · 25/04/2015 18:33

I get 5 ante-natal and 5 post-natal hours with my doula. She'll do anything from batch cooking, to helping with breast feeding. I thought it a bit unnecessary at first but now it sounds invaluable.

Loopy I'm not currently at home but from memory the OiOi bag is about 18 x 4 inches. DP is a design freak and loved it plus you get a bottle holder, changing mat and plastic zip up pocket.

broodylicious · 25/04/2015 20:01

Wow! If someone will come in and cook, clean and tell my MIL to eff off when I've had enough, I'm defo very pro this idea. In fact, I'd prob like to hire one of those on a permanent basis, regardless of baby's arrival! WinkGrin One or two hours worth of help a day sounds good to me, especially as it means you won't have to worry about cooking decent meals or washing up! Any more time than that though, especially full time, I would hate. Those precious first days are so magical as a new family.

I don't know what it's like in the Netherlands but over here (nhs), you get released from hospital and in the baby's first eight days, you get visited by the mw three times - more if you call and ask them (like I did when I was struggling with breastfeeding on our first few days out of hospital, she came three times in one day, in fact!) They check any wounds, help with feeding issues, weigh bubs, answer any questions and then sign you over to the health visitors (I can't remember when the hv first comes but it's not on day nine or ten). Guess it'll be different there because you don't have an nhs?

My best friend (with 5 week old baby) was extolling the virtues of breast feeding cafes today. Am going to try and find one local to me. Anyone else has any experience of them?

broodylicious · 25/04/2015 21:01

zampa, defo worth a visit. Really good to swap tips and - especially in the early days when public bfing is a bit scary - it's brill to get your boobs out with other mummies around and not to worry so much.

OP posts:
Naturegirl82 · 25/04/2015 22:09

zampa I went to a bf group and it was really useful. I didn't actually have any problems but just knowing you have people to talk to about the highs and lows of bf is great. Made some brill friends through it.

Fattycow · 25/04/2015 22:16

The midwife does visit in the first days, but not that often. Most things you mentioned are covered by the postnatal nurse. Normally you get 49 hours of care spread over 10 days and you discus with the nurse when she will be there.
And of course you can always send her on an errand if you want her out for a bit. You can ask her to go and do the groceries, so that would get rid of her for an hour or so. Wink

Aretepetite · 26/04/2015 05:45

Morning
My bed is becoming v uncomfortable :(
I have been extremely tired around 5pm recently too.
Maybe this is my new routine kicking in Hmm

Porridge time at least :)

Hope you had a good night Joy

MustBeLoopy390 · 26/04/2015 07:17

Postnatal nurse sounds fabulous!
Bed very uncomfortable here too, and far too warm Confused tbh can't get comfortable much at all these days lol, especially with this little guy liking to stretch out and push upwards towards my lungs at the mo. Off to mils today for Sunday lunch with the kids while dh is at work Smile

Zampa · 26/04/2015 08:06

I'm being treated to an overnight spa trip today! Fully intend to have a lower leg massage. My ankle bones have disappeared and I need to shift some of that retained fluid.
