Thanks all, 102 is only just below 106 so it can't be that bad. I thought it might be the case as I had to take iron tablets last time and what I can eat is even more limited this time but the level doesn't seem too bad.

I have made an appointment for a couple of weeks but might do the same as Charlie and not take the full dose as the side effects aren't ideal. I am exhausted, do get cold, short of breath and light headed though so maybe I need something. Then again isn't that just pregnancy?

LaLaLaaaa · 23/04/2015 18:27

Such a sad incident but I agree - it's just so important to read instructions about a product, even when buying second hand. Those poor parents, I really feel for them. But having read the report and read the bednest instruction manual I dont believe the product is dangerous if used correctly according to the instructions.

Who was it who said they also get pain at the top of their bump, that feels like sunburn? I had my Physio appointment today and found out it has a name - rib flare! It's because my rib cage is being bent outwards by baby.

Was also diagnosed with SPD and given exercises. She said she didn't think I should work until 38 weeks if I could possibly finish earlier. So I might have to revise that.

smallgreenbanana · 23/04/2015 18:42

charlie oh I thought iron tablets give you the opposite problem! Mw told me to manage it with diet - iron rich foods plus vitamin C foods at the same time for absorption. I've taken this to mean red meat and fresh fruit juice for dinner. Smile Hope you are ok soon.

purple maybe you should just check with the doctor anyway if you've got possible symptoms? Not that I'm telling you what to do.

smallgreenbanana · 23/04/2015 18:43

Oh you made an appointment already purple, Sorry Smile

Thepurplegiraffe · 23/04/2015 19:08

small yes I came to the same conclusion. I am on holiday next week though so it will be a couple of weeks. Maybe I will be able to eat red meat again when I am away...

MrsFbabyNo1 · 23/04/2015 19:11

Hello all,

Back from my hols. It's was sooo lovely. Cape verde - still a bit barren / under developed but the beach and sea is just gorgeous. Did nothing but simply relax!!! Fab hols, would recommend but it's also so nice to be home now too!

My belly looks seriously so much bigger than a few weeks ago, the week's sunbathing and resting has probably helped little man grow lots -as well as all the lovely food, fresh tropical fruit and lots of pina coladas (sans alcohol)!! Cus of the rapid bump increase thought I'd put on lots of "holiday weight" but only 3.7lb in last 2 weeks so happy with that. I only try to weigh myself each month (so that I can compare to my 8th Dec / 8weeks booking weight) but a special holiday weighing was in order! ð??? 28 weeks today.

Right 400 odd messages to catch up on then... ð???

broodylicious · 23/04/2015 19:18

lala, feeling for you on the SPD frot. Mine has got worse through the last week. Mw said bump band and paracetamol would help, plus putting a carrier bag on my car seat so I can swivel in and out easily with my legs together, but it will get worse as it's still early days to be suffering so badly. She is happy to refer me to physio but I am pretty confident that baby will be here before my appt is due not at all cynical!

purple it varies from place to place but generally the recommended iron level (hb) is not lower than 10.5 at booking, 10 at 28 wks, and 10.5 at 34 wks. You have a natural dip at 28 wks. They will treat under these levels, however some trusts will treat 10.5 or below irrespective of gestation. If you are symptomatic (which it sounds like you may be) they may treat at any level. If you book at 13 and drop to 11 you may feel symptoms as it is low for you, where as if you usually sit at 11 then 10.5 won't feel too bad.

The 10.5 is to allow for 500mls or so of potential blood loss at delivery so that the resulting drop in iron level wont leave you feeling bad or needing a transfusion.

You could try Floradix which is gentler than iron tablets, or just take one every other day. See what your dr recommends. Smile

Fattycow · 23/04/2015 19:31

I am suffering from spd as well. Mine is around the pubic bone and it makes turning around in bed so painful! Walking isn't the nicest either...
I can easily refer myself to physio, but it is so expensive! I went twice about 10 weeks ago, as my left bumcheek hurt. Turns out it was just a muscle being annoying that time.

jmojo · 23/04/2015 19:37

Joy I am ignoring it just now, as I have with most of my symptoms. They are just there, one of those things that happens but will go. I haven't even told my doctor yet. You just get splints to wear to hold your wrists straight to prevent further compression of the medial (if i remember correctly) nerve by hand position.

In the UK you will be referred to the physio.

It is a bit annoying as I type most of the day but I can deal with it.

Thepurplegiraffe · 23/04/2015 19:44

Thanks jmojo, great advice as ever.
Huge sympathy and Thanks to those suffering with spd, this pregnancy is hard enough without that!

meeskamooska · 23/04/2015 20:04

Your holiday sounds lovely mrsF I'm very envious!

All those who are a bit anaemic but reluctant to take the tablets due to side effects- I've been very anaemic before and was given various different forms of iron tablets by the Dr, but all of them gave me a belly ache and constipation, in the end I was given a liquid syrup medicine called Sytron, I think it's more expensive to prescribe which is why they give you the tablets to try first. It's much better anyway, no particular side effects, so you could always ask to try that if the tablets aren't agreeing with you.
I never found Spatone or anything like that brought my levels up much at all, but this liquid is a prescription medication so is more effective.

broody it might still be worth trying to see a physio, I got my appointment through in about 2 weeks, they do get back to you quicker for pregnancy physio I think.

Fattycow · 23/04/2015 20:05

I am thinking of starting my labour basket. I am 30 weeks tomorrow and it is starting to itch. I am making one big basket with all my labour things, so if I end up being transferred to hospital, we just need to grab the basket. The hospital only things will be at the bottom, the other stuff at the top. I'll type up my list in a bit, maybe you lot have some suggestions of things I should pack as well.

Fattycow · 23/04/2015 20:12

Hospital things:

  • underwear, shirt, socks, deo and toothbrush for DH (so he can freshen up a bit as well if needed)
  • bag of toiletries (hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel, hair band)
  • pj
  • flipflops
  • going home clothes for me
  • extra pair of glasses
  • blanket for the car seat
  • 2 euro coin for the wheelchairs
  • phone charger

Both home and hospital:

  • old shirt of DH to give birth in
  • lip balm
  • warm socks
  • maternity pads
  • underwear
  • baby clothes
  • cord tie
  • notes
  • phone numbers of midwife and postnatal care
  • insurance papers
  • bottle of water
  • few bottles of isotone sports drink
  • those energy sugar sweets
  • snacks, crackers, cookies
  • cloth nappies
meeskamooska · 23/04/2015 20:16

I'll be interested to see your list, I haven't got my hospital bags ready yet, I keep wanting to pack and then my mind goes blank thinking about what I need... And then I go and do something else...

I'm wondering whether to wash the baby's clothes and sheets/blankets first or not bother? I think I will, unless I leave my packing so late I dont have time !

Fattycow · 23/04/2015 20:18

mees, I wash all new things for the baby when I get them. I just want to get rid of any chemicals that might be in them.

Fattycow · 23/04/2015 20:19

Oh, and I'm packing a book and some magazines as well, in case things take forever. Even when I'm at home, I do not want to have to send DH a million times to get the specific book I want. Wink

meeskamooska · 23/04/2015 20:30

Yeh I don't really want factory chemicals on my precious baby.

a towel in your hospital bag? I know they aren't provided here
Phone charger
Breast pads

Zampa · 23/04/2015 20:32

My NHS physio appt. for SPD came through really quickly. Called on Tuesday and has to email a completed form back. Has a call to arrange the appt. on Wednesday. It's not until 07/05 but that's because I'm on holiday next week (whoop). Think it's worth calling if you're not feeling great.

Zampa · 23/04/2015 20:33

Had x 2 obviously.

Fattycow · 23/04/2015 20:37

Charger is on the list already, but good one on the breast pads!

Fattycow · 23/04/2015 20:38

And towels are provided by the hospital here.

NotPennysBoat · 23/04/2015 20:51

Don't forget your camera Fatty!!

Fattycow · 23/04/2015 21:03

We don't have a separate camera, we both use our iPhone 5s for pictures and videos.

smallgreenbanana · 23/04/2015 21:15

Had the whooping cough vaccine today - nurse said it would be a bit stingy, and it really was! Just made the mistake of catching my arm on the sofa ow ow ow! Shock
