mustbeloopy My usual midwife (much to my surprise) can always find the heartbeat first time. She just pops the wand on. I once said to her I was pleasantly surprised as I'd been told it was hard to do and she looked all smug and said she'd been doing it a long time. Last time I had a younger midwife who had to spend maybe a minute poking around. When she found it there was visible relief on her face! I felt really sorry for her as I was not worried!

charlieis30 · 23/04/2015 08:37

fatty we have lots of friends in the Netherlands and we love getting the cards, we're planning to do them too. I'm using our wedding list as it was a couple of years ago and just hoping not too many people have moved!

MustBeLoopy390 · 23/04/2015 08:45

Small it just threw me a bit, this is the first time we've not heard baby's heartbeat by now. I though they had to check? Guess it's down to experience but that's really not too reassuring considering this midwife is my home birth midwife Confused wonder how I'll be monitored in labour now lol

MustBeLoopy390 · 23/04/2015 08:45

Thought not though bloody iPhone Angry

Thepurplegiraffe · 23/04/2015 08:58

My midwife took a good 5 minutes to find the heart beat at 28 weeks, I was glad she at least persisted until she found it.
After being warned by the nurse of red hot pain yesterday because it was my 2nd wc jab, I had nothing more than a dull ache which was good.
We took dd for her hip scan yesterday and she seems to be pretty much there which is great, if it looks good in 6 months she will be discharged, though the doctor did say that last time as well. She threw up spectularly in the car on the way there though which was a bit traumatic as she has never done that before.
Fattycow while I think of it was it you who is getting a wifi based monitor? You might want to look into it a little bit more as there are stories out there about them being hacked.

Fattycow · 23/04/2015 08:59

charlie, I was thinking about using our wedding list as well, but I'm afraid I'll miss out on some people we have gotten close to since. Good thing we still have some time left! I will just jot down names whenever I remember them!

charlieis30 · 23/04/2015 09:52

i was thinking about choosing the cards then just getting envelopes from somewhere else so i can address them all before baby arrives. is that how you guys bormally do it?

Naturegirl82 · 23/04/2015 10:40

Something to be aware of if you have bought or are thinking of buying the bednest. The side should only be used half down if baby is being supervised despite what the advertising pictures show.

JoY007 · 23/04/2015 11:17

Morning Ladies, finding the nursing bra tips very useful. I will pop into my ever reliable Selfridges for some nicely fitted bras. I much prefer their bra fitting to M&S, they also do the bravvissimo brand as well as Freya.

lewaney and jmojo think I have got the same as well. I started using
deep freeze spray only to read the can which says not to be used whilst pregnant Confused did not think it went into the blood stream?!

Lovely cards fatty love the idea and will do it for friends in the UK. I like the idea of posting cards Smile

Fattycow · 23/04/2015 11:30

charlie, I am going to buy blank stickers so I can start writing addresses down and once I get the cards I will just stick them on the envelopes. If you already know the sex, you can easily order the envelopes ahead of time, most companies do this for just a little extra charge.

meeskamooska · 23/04/2015 12:52

nature I was just reading about what happened with the Bednest... what an absolute tragedy. I haven't chosen this crib myself but yes it seems to just be the 'halfway' position that is dangerous. I think the danger needs to be widely publicised now to prevent another poor family losing a baby this way, it's such a popular crib, there must be thousands of parents currently using one and they need to know that the halfway position is just not safe. So sad.

I had a very positive midwife appointment this morning, blood being taken hardly hurt (I hate bloods usually), heard the the heartbeat, I'm measuring ok and the midwife was nice.

meeskamooska · 23/04/2015 13:03

JoY the Deep freeze spray is probably not recommended in case you inhale the spray, the fumes can be quite strong if you use a lot. or even more likely it could just be one of the million and one things that have never been tested on pregnant women so they have to be cautious

Naturegirl82 · 23/04/2015 13:20

mees I've just been reading the coroners report and the problem basically was that the parents were given the bednest second hand so didn't have the instructions that explain that the baby shouldn't be left unattended unless both sides are fully up, and the maximum tilt should be 5cm (they had it tilted at 8cm). It was an unfortunate set of circumstances. I think the coroner is recommending warnings being put on the cot to prevent misuse in the future if you use a second hand cot which doesn't come with instructions. I think if the bednest is used according to the instructions it is safe.

meeskamooska · 23/04/2015 13:40

Yes a very unfortunate set of circumstances, and I agree no reason to think it's unsafe in the fully up or down position.
I'd still use the Bednest if I had one, I presume they'll add a clear 'maximum tilt' marking on future cribs, and possibly get rid of the halfway side position, or at least label the crib itself with a warning about not leaving your baby unattended while using that position.
Probably the main problem at the moment is that there is a big second hand market for them so lots of parents won't ever have seen the original instructions.

JoY007 · 23/04/2015 13:48

Thanks meeska most probably, I will stop using it. Though it relieves the pain. Just had a 15 minutes lunch snooze, feel so better.

Lewaney and Jmojo are you ignoring the pain in the wrist/thumb like me?

Naturegirl82 · 23/04/2015 14:02

mees I think that was the coroners concern. Not ones bought new as these will come with the instructions (no good if people don't read them though!) but those sold second hand won't necessarily. At least if there are clear warnings on the crib itself it's much clearer and easier to see and less chance people won't be aware of the dangers. Won't make it clear on the ones all ready in the second hand market though.

I do have a bednest and will be using it with this LO hence why I wanted to make sure I knew what had happened in this circumstance. But I'm reassured if used correctly there will be little chance of this happening.

Fattycow · 23/04/2015 14:46

So sad about the baby...

Thepurplegiraffe · 23/04/2015 15:33

Quick question, has anybody elses bloodd come back as mildly anaemic? Would you bother seeing the doctor for a level of 102? My letter says to make an appointment but it doesn't seem to bad and iron tablets aren't much fun.

Fattycow · 23/04/2015 15:38

purple, maybe you can get some spatone/spotane and ask for a retest in two weeks?

Lewaney3 · 23/04/2015 17:31

Hi everyone,

So sad to read about that baby's death :(

Yes joy I'm ignoring it at the moment but I have an appointment with consultant again next week so will mention it and see what they say. I have just become used to the aches in the joints but it does feel awfully weird feeling aged at 25!

Charliej86 · 23/04/2015 17:48

I've been taking iron tablets for 8-10 weeks already. Gp prescribed them when I had blood tests for itching. Not that the information was passed to/easily found by mw. Levels will be checked on this blood test. I've never been told what the level is tho. I've not been taking full dose however coz I don't like the affects.

smallgreenbanana · 23/04/2015 17:49

purple Mine was low, 106, but just over the limit for treatment apparently. Previously my levels were really good. The midwife said it was probably because of the point in the pregnancy and to get retested in 4 weeks. She checked I did not feel tired or dizzy. I guess it is up to you.

smallgreenbanana · 23/04/2015 17:50

charlie what are the side effects you don't like?

Charliej86 · 23/04/2015 18:05

I get constipated off them small, I'm not very regular as it is, also don't like having black number 2's. Sorry if tad tmi.

Naturegirl82 · 23/04/2015 18:09

press statement from nct. It looks like they are stopping sales and despatches of the bednest for the time being so I would maybe check your orders if you were buying or renting one and haven't yet received it.
