Hello ladies

Not posted for a while & just had a readto catch up on everyone's news.
Thanks for the well-wishes regarding SPD - luckily it is currently quite mild so can't complain.
Hormones are kicking for me too. Keep ending up in tears as lose patience with DS (almost 2yrs old) and then feel guilty. Still living on sugar so feeling guilty about lack of nutrients for Alan as well. Lots of tears but little change unfortunately, which is both pointless & frustrating!
It is lovely to hear about everyone's purchases. I feel like I am missing out a little as we are using most stuff from DS, although have decided we will need a double buggy of some sort so need to look in to that, and struggling to decide if I need a 'proper' change bag this time.
Almost in third trimester - Eeek!

We have the angelcare monitor that has a sensor pad but doesn't have a video. We chose it because DS would only sleep on his tummy which is against SIDS prevention recommendations but it was that or him not sleeping. Although he was in with us it did give us a bit more peace of mind (although I don't think I slept for first few weeks after started putting him on his tummy as I was so paranoid)!

Sorry haven't made individual references to people - am useless at remembering who said what! Lovely kitchen, whoever posted it :)

Morning ladies! Ah, the delights of pregnancy.... Was awoken at 5am for one of the usual many night-time loo trips, and got simultaneously struck down by a horrendous leg cramp (which still hurts!) and a nosebleed. Hope this doesn't become a regular thing!

Zampa · 22/04/2015 08:38

Good recommendation jmojo. Notes will cover off proof of EDD and will be needed in case of early labour (fingers crossed that won't happen!).

broodylicious · 22/04/2015 08:51

Oh my goodness sparkly, what an eventful night!! I thought my restless foot was bad!!

For all those with cramps and/or restless legs and feet, my mw recommends tonic water.

lost, good to see you backSmile and thank you, it's my kitchen. Our dd was and still is a tummy sleeper so we had the tommee tippee version of the sensor mat and monitor. It did help to alleviate our worry but yes, I don't think I slept properly those first few weeks she was on her tummy!

That's interesting about the tonic water. I get cramps in my legs most nights now. I was blaming it on rolling into my back and restricting the blood flow. I don't seem to be able to keep myself on one side!

Just had my whooping cough vaccination, it was fine, barely felt it. But will wait for the heavy arm to kick in. The nurse said the next time I'll see her will be at baby clinic, eek time is going to fly! Smile

broodylicious · 22/04/2015 09:24

Yeah it's something to do with the quinine in it, which eases the cramps. I was very nervous about drinking tonic water earlier in the pregnancy because of the quinine content - it's been linked with birth defects - but mw confirmed it's perfectly safe as long as you don't have gin in itWink

Just had the whooping cough jab. The actual jab was fine but the nurse told me that because I have had it in the last few years it is going to be red hot sore for the next 24-48 hours. Looking forward to that!

Fattycow · 22/04/2015 11:38

Maybe the third trimester starts as soon as you enter the 28th week? So that would be a 27 weeks and 1 day.

Fattycow · 22/04/2015 11:42

I am trying to figure out how many birth announcement cards we will need, but it is making my head hurt!

broodylicious · 22/04/2015 12:20

We are just going to call, email and Facebook our birth announcement. If anyone buys us anything, we will do thank you cards from vista print/snapfish with a pic of bubs on the front. Although tbh, knowing me and dh, baby may well be celebrating his/her first birthday before we get around to having the time to sort them Wink??

I'm think I'm going to treat what will hopefully be a safe arrival in the same way as announcing my pregnancy. Call the people closest to me and email anyone else I feel might like to know. The calls might be a bit optimistic and might resort to texts!

Agree with broody that a thank you card with a photo is a nice way to say thank you for any gifts.

Ceejay14 · 22/04/2015 13:09

Thomson need a letter from 28 weeks. Midwife letter is fine, but I'm midwife won't write them and tells me it's a GP thing... Which appears to be something they charge for! Annoying.

With WC vaccine, do you request this yourself or is it offered? I had 28 wk MW apt today and it wasn't mentioned?

Ceejay14 · 22/04/2015 13:10

*'my midwife' not 'I'm midwife' (stupid autocorrect)...

Naturegirl82 · 22/04/2015 13:32

ceejay you usually need to arrange the WC yourself usually through your gp

Ceejay14 · 22/04/2015 13:35

Thanks naturegirl

meeskamooska · 22/04/2015 14:13

Hi ladies please can I join you? I'm 28 weeks now, got my 28 week appointment tomorrow so I'll be asking about this whooping cough vax thanks to you guys, I hadn't heard of it before, and I certainly can't rely on my midwife to tell me about anything important!
I feel like my midwife literally couldn't care less, I've never even been asked how I am... The midwives I've seen at the hospital when I was worried however were absolutely lovely.

Is anyone worried about weight gain? I'm massive, I started at a normal weight but I look pretty big now, and unfortunately not just the bump. My legs and everything else have grown too. I'm trying to stop over eating but it's really hard.

meeskamooska · 22/04/2015 14:24

I found the stats list but cant figure out how to add myself to it, is it possible on iPad? I have no computer

broodylicious · 22/04/2015 14:25

Welcome meeskaSmile My mw hadn't mentioned the wc jab either until my appt yday and she gave us a leaflet about it. You can have it any time between 28 and 38 weeks so you've got plenty of time yet, don't worry.

I'm not bothered about weight gain too much. You're making a baby, it's natural and much needed to gain weight. As long as you eat as healthily as you can and don't constantly eat rubbish, there's nothing to worry aboutSmile

Hello Ladies,

Hope everyone is doing great. Welcome Meeskamooska

Not sure if my post was missed but I wanted to know when is a good time to purchase nursing bras?

I feel so uncomfortable today sitting down, taken off my shoes for added comfort, just feel quite restless. Think I will be more comfy standing or walking about the office Confused

Fattycow · 22/04/2015 15:35

broody, over here it is traditional to send birth announcement cards. I literally don't know anyone over here who doesn't send them, even with Facebook and texts!

Normally it says the name, date of birth, time of birth, weight, address and phone numbers. Usually there is also a little poem and the resting times of mum and baby.

Fattycow · 22/04/2015 15:37

Joy, I bought a nursing bra at 22 weeks, as my normal ones didn't fit me at all. I bought a Cariwell with gel wires. It is really comfortable and the gel wires give me support, but they cannot poke you or be harmful for your milk ducts, as they are really soft and flexible.
I know that this bra might become too small, but I wanted something I could wear for now and at 35 euro it wasn't too bad.

Naturegirl82 · 22/04/2015 15:38

joy I think they say from 38 weeks, but I personally just got some stretchy crop top type bras initially and then went and got measured after about 2 weeks so my size had settled down a bit. I think it's a bit of an estimate if you get measured at 38 weeks as you don't know how quickly your rib cage will shrink or how big your boobs will go when your milk comes in.

broodylicious · 22/04/2015 15:57

jo, I think any time from now is a great time to get measured for new bras, again a few weeks before baby arrives and again a few months afterwards when your milk supply has settled. I had non wired crop top type bras for night time last time and I wore them before dd arrived and then afterwards as they were so comfortable and allowed for easy nursing. I found m&s to be good at measuring but mothercare were rubbish - however, this could just have been my local stores or the individuals I got!

Definitely get measured for bras now if yours aren't fitting but there isn't a need to buy nursing bras yet.

meeskamooska · 22/04/2015 16:24

Thanks broody, I think the problem is that I have been eating crap ever since my sickness died down, but I'm going to make an effort to eat a bit healthier now coz it's getting a bit out of control. Sweet fatty things aren't helping my heartburn either.

Joy, I'd agree with Naturegirl about getting some soft stretchy bras in a few weeks, you'll need something to hold breast pads in place and be comfortable, but it's impossible to predict how big you'll be when your milk comes in, and how much your ribs will go down in size after birth.
I'm not really comfortable being fitted in a shop so I'll probably do a huge internet order of various sizes a week or 2 after the baby comes. I've already had to buy bigger bras anyway though so I should be ok what I've got til my size settles down.
