The last one was getting too long again. There's just no stopping us!

Indith, you don't have to go to Guides

omg, VM, chocolate fondue....my idea of heaven, once I get rid of this itch I will celebrate with one I think. Hope your teeth are ok and the jaw ache is from eating too many marshmallow teacakes

Lucy, good news for the babe, but I can imagine the let-down for you too. That test sounds a bit grim - my imagination is wildly trying to figure out what they did to you! Isn't it just a swab?? I'm sure I had a strep b test with dd...
Anyway, glad mag arrived safely. Ain't she gorgeous?

Just got back from dd's friend's house - she was home early from nursery today because she was, according to them, ill: never seen her so full of beans and bounces this pm Ah well, good! Me, can hardly keep eyes open...want bed....

VanillaMilkshake · 08/11/2006 19:51

Dont think the irony that I am eating sweeties and have tooth ache is lost on me. But I must eat - and can only eat what my body craves. besides as I said the pain/sensation is'nt constant and is not noticeable when I eat.

Have flossed and flushed witht he Listerine as well as brushing with Sensodyne and colgate - dont see what esle I can do. Sadly we are out of paracetamol, may have to resort to calgel left over from when DD was teething!

Elibean · 08/11/2006 21:17

I'm sure they're not related at all - was only kidding! But do hope the ache goes away - miserable to have to wait to get it sorted out; I sometimes get toothache from a sort of inflamed nerve ending - it happens when I have a cold, or any sort of generalized inflammation. And it dies down again of its own accord. Maybe its something like that? Meantime, Calgel certainly won't do any harm...

spinamum · 08/11/2006 21:18

Hi Lucy! Thinking of you.

I ordered my strep b test today, but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to do it myself. Not looking forward to doing a rectal swab!(TMI)

Right! I'm going to finish my camomile tea and have an early night.

Elibean · 08/11/2006 21:19

Rectal?!? I'm sure mine was vaginal......wonder what they did test me for then?!

VanillaMilkshake · 08/11/2006 21:23

S'okay Eli, I should have stuck a smiley icon in there.
The ache is actually all around my jaw lines so I am hoping it is a nerve thing as I seem to remember being told they all meet at one point so you can never pinpoint a problem. And I do have a sore throat and sniffles currently.

Rectal swab !! Did not realise just what fun a strep b test was - do i really want to ask for one now

10 hours of work to go, and I have been sat on MN far ro long tonight so am off to bed to rest my achey back.

Night night

XX

lucy5 · 08/11/2006 21:28

Both

spinamum · 08/11/2006 21:29

it's both. Two swabs. it's the sort of thing I might need a glass of wine to do.

lucy5 · 08/11/2006 21:36

i would have had a stiff drink, if I had known!

castlesintheair · 08/11/2006 21:37

Sorry to be stoopid, what is strep B. test for?

Indith · 08/11/2006 22:33

Rectal Swab!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Lucy I bet you needed a drink!

Did go to Guides, now smell of wood smoke which makes me happy!

Bed time soon methinks

Elibean · 08/11/2006 22:40

'night ladies. May see some of you later, but hope not, IYSWIM!

ps going to try not to think about double swabs last thing, jsut what I don't need for a dream

weirdbird · 08/11/2006 23:04

I know what I'll be dreaming about

My sympathies are with you Lucy and anyone else who is having one..

Had my first bout of really bad cramp yesterday, unfortunately I was in Tescos car park with a boot full of food, a small child who wanted to go wee and a foot in full spasm that I can no longer reach.

Did make it home eventually and am very impressed with DD's bladder control.

lucy5 · 08/11/2006 23:10

Hahahah, thats a funny picture!

jabberwocky · 09/11/2006 03:24

AQ, I had forgotten you had the shivering too. I've decided I'm not going to let them push me around. I'm going to grill them on all of the alternatives. Found a study on google saying that clonidine was quite helpful. I'm also interested in what you said about them going slowly. After I calmed down and thought about it a bit more, I realized that the shivering didn't start until they upped the dosage for the c-section. Am thinking they probably did it really fast since we were headed in for emergency section at that point.

I've got a strep B test in a week and a half and, yep, it's 2 swabs front and back

castles, if you are a strep B carrier you can pass it to the baby and cause a serious infection. For some reason the incidence is less in the UK than in the US, so it is a standard test here, but you have to request it in the UK. Not sure what the exact procedure is, though.

HAd a while this evening of feeling really sorry for myself. Bump just felt absolutely HUGE and my back was killing me. Feeling better now and keep telling myself that it's only 3 1/2 or so more weeks...

VanillaMilkshake · 09/11/2006 08:08

Good Morning Ladies, here's to a fairly gripe free Thursday!

10 hours of work to go - have I already mentioned that

Feeling spectacular this morning after a rather pleasant dream involving Mr Anton Du Beke Not my usual sweaty hairy, axe weilding fantasy type, but there's just something about that man I cannot resist. Guess the hormones are on overtime and stirring up lustful feelings again . The only thing that annoys me is my bl**dy concience which seems to penetrate my fantasy dreams and remind me I have a loving DH sleeping next to me, so I can't even get that stirred up on a fantasy without feeling guilty

castlesintheair · 09/11/2006 08:15

Thanks Jabber. Do you (or anyone else) think I should ask for the strep B test? Never had it before. Feel a panic coming on ... do you think it could explain my strange bowel movements over the last 6 weeks ??? We got the water board results and it's all fine so that rules that one out. Hmmmm, next!

judemum · 09/11/2006 09:30

Castles I have neither heard of nor had a strep B test. Don't think I'll bother by the sounds of it, unless I really need to inject some "fun" into my day. I have a m/w appointment tomorrow (almost forgotten what one was) so might ask her about it but suspect its not done much in the UK because its considered low risk? Or is this just me having blind faith in our healthcare system?! Just one gripe for me today and then I promise to shut up- I had a terrible night's sleep. Woke at 3.30am, went downstairs at 4.30am, watched half an hour of TV, went back to bed and then DS1 woke up. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Apart from that am all smiles!

Elibean · 09/11/2006 09:47

strep b testing is still a bit controversial here: some hospitals do it, others don't, its possible to test -ve one day and +ve the next (according to one OB I talked to about it) so if its done, its usually done very much at the last minute. If you test +ve, you can opt to be put on antibiotics before delivery, to minimize risk of passing infection on to baby. The 'against' argument is that lots of women would needlessly take antibiotics, which is something the UK doctors are very anti these days - due to MRSA etc. The 'for' argument is that if that saves just one baby per year, or whatever, its worth it.

I hope I got that right, gist of it anyway - bet there are some very knowledgeable women on the Health section that could answer any ???s about the whys and wherefores of strep b testing a whole lot better!

And now I'm going to pass on a tip I got from someone in the PG section, just in case any of you develop PUPPS or other bad pg itch (hope not!): bicarb of soda, dissolved in water, kept by bed with flannel. Wipe on itchy skin as soon as wake up and want to itch (don't itch, itch spreads) and it works long enough to get back to sleep. HURRAH, I got a total of about 7 hours - first time in a week! I did take Piriton too, but been doing that anyway.

Still feel drained and tired, but mentally a lot happier...Judemum, sorry you had such a crap night, I know just how that feels and hope you make up for it tonight. And VM, lucky you - I did get to sleep long enough for some pleasant dreams, for once, but clearly not a patch on yours

Castles, do'nt worry - strep b doesn't give you tummy ache as far as I know! You probably just caught a bug, or are reacting to iron or hormones or something? Or do you suffer from IBS ever? Pregnancy can cause flare ups apparently...

accessorizequeen · 09/11/2006 12:22

sorry haven't been posting much, project at work due to go live in 2 hours (so why am I on here) and I have worked every night this week! V.stressed, just want this to go away now.
Jabber, that's exactly what happened to me, epidural was fine, only when they topped me up for grade 1 emergency section that I had problems. So it may well be solvable for you with an elective

VanillaMilkshake · 09/11/2006 12:34

Ha ha AQ you sound like me.

I still have loads to show my replacement but clever old boss has already given her a project so I guess there's no time for me to do anything with her in the oh......five and a half hours of work time I have left, acutallu make that 4 hours as we are getting takeaway tomorrow lunch time! Have written everything in an idiots guide though, but strangley i dont feel that guilty .

castlesintheair · 09/11/2006 13:40

Thanks Eli & Jude. I am well and truly reassured and won't ask to be strepped Sound's positively gross. That's interesting about the IBS, Eli, as I did have > amoebic dysentery in my 20s and I've noticed, particularly during pg, that if I eat too hot a curry (vindaloo +) I suffer the next day. That could explain it. I haven't had hot food but maybe everything just goes a bit more haywire during pg.

So pleased you found a cure for the itching, Eli. Isn't it funny how there are all these meds and something that's just hanging around your kitchen cupboard does the trick.

I was feeling quite sorry for myself earlier on the lack of sleep front (got about 4 hours) when a friend came round who's due 24th December (wonder if she's one of us?!) and said she was woken by her DD 6 times in the night and was in tears this am as her DH is abroad on business.

I do recommend the Spatone (sorry if I keep banging on about it) to anyone feeling tired. I don't feel too bad despite lack sleep & another bowel attack yesterday. Could be adrenaline due to the ongoing fight we are having with our ex-landlady over our deposit which today has been handed over to the lawyers. My BP always needs a boost so maybe that is why

castlesintheair · 09/11/2006 13:44

Does anyone know where I can buy Lactulose? Boots? Trying to get prepared for the ole elective. There was a funny thread the other day about c-sections and everyone was saying take something for the constipation/wind Funny what you forget. Brings back lots of lovely memories!!

DebbsyandBibby · 09/11/2006 13:51

castles any chemist sell it.

jabberwocky · 09/11/2006 14:06

Castles, glad to hear the water came back okay. I'm sure the wait has been a bit worrying.

Eli, congrats on finding something for the itching! I'm so happy for you. Can't imagine what it's been like.

And...I slept last night!! Ds did wake up once and ask to go to the bathroom, but other than that - and a couple of bathroom trips myself - I had a great night's sleep. Am amazed and delighted.
