The last one was getting too long again. There's just no stopping us!

Hello all, today is the most positive day we have had on here for ages!!!!!!! Hope I didn't freak anyone out with the strep test. I didn't even know why i was having it, I often feel like a lemming here

lucy5 · 09/11/2006 15:23

Oh , I meant to add that I went shopping today for a few baby bits. I stood in the baby section at the supermarket and my mind went blank. I couldn't remember if I needed wet wipes or was it just cotton wool and water for cleaning the bum in the early days, did I use baby bath in the beginning???? I really can't remember, will have to get an old baby book out! I bought everything anyway, still can't believe that I am buying stuff for MY baby. i have a little pack of nappies, it's really surreal.

tinshoes · 09/11/2006 15:39

lol lucy. the midwives will have you using cotton wool and water forever but my dh reacts badly to cotton wool so we used baby wipes (and received lots of frowns) from the outset with DD1.

judemum · 09/11/2006 15:44

well I bought breast pads and nipple cream the other day!!! That made it feel very real I can tell you. Not to mention the MASSIVE tesco carrier bag on our spare room floor with 5 bags of maternity towels in it. (shudder). Today, I am feeing in a "can't wait, can't wait, can't wait" mood! Oh, and I bought a gorgeous fluffy zip up snuggly thig for the baby at lunchtime and it so cute and small.... sigh....

Loulou000 · 09/11/2006 16:03

How will I ever catch up with everything I have missed in the last few days? I will need to set aside a good few hours I think...

I love spatone, think it's what's got me through the last couple of v.v.v.stressful weeks at work. I'm taking it for life now (and not eating broccoli, cos I don't like it)
Finished my project, we are live, yaayayayayayayyyay! Now I'm going home early to spend time with ds1 as I didn't even go home last night & dp brought him into work to say goodnight!
3 more days at work, then off to christmas shop & buy 13 birthday presents too. Judemum, you are truly impressive...

Loulou000 · 09/11/2006 16:23

Placenta is still low and the doctor I saw at the antenatal clinic on monday said I'd have another scan at 36 weeks and if it has not moved, I'd have a c-section immediately. At 36 weeks? So early? I am still in shock.

So I'm going baby shopping tonight. Some stupid questions, please help!

Can newborns go in a sleeping bag? I can't work it out. The jojo ones say 0-6 months, but does that include very newborn? If they can go in a bag at all, do I have to buy a special size?
Will I bleed if I have a caesarean, i.e. do I still need pads?

OP posts:
judemum · 09/11/2006 16:39

Lou Lou- you need to get special new born sleeping bags and/or double check the weight allowances in the 0-3 month ones. Most normal baby sleeping bags say, not to be used before a certain weight but my friend got some special new born ones- try the jojomanmanbebe site (I haven't checked but they are usually pretty good). No idea re. C section I'm afraid!

bewilderbeast · 09/11/2006 16:50

LouLou, you will bleed although not as badly, I've found that always ultra night for when your in hospital and then the normal ones when you're home work a lot better than maternity pads. The midwife has told me to expect bleeding on and off for 4 weeks, whenever you over do it or start moving round or breast feeding you bleed more but frankly its not as bad as a period imo although i do have very heavy ones (sorry TMI). Whatever you do do not use disposable knickers, go to marks and spencers and buy some seamless bodywear ones, you won't need to throw them away and its better to be comfy.

tinshoes · 09/11/2006 16:52

loulou - my dd was only 5lb 12 and we couldnt put her in a sleeping bag until she was about 4 months. i cant remember the weight but they tend to be fine with sheets/blankets when so small as they dont wriggle too much...

castlesintheair · 09/11/2006 16:54

LouLou
have a look at these sleeping bags
My two DCs were in them from birth and I am using them again for no.3.

Yes, you still bleed after a c-section so get plenty of pads! When is 36 weeks for you? I am 36 end of this week I think so you could have your baby next week? How exciting!!!!

castlesintheair · 09/11/2006 16:57

these sleeping bags

Not sure what happened there

Loulou000 · 09/11/2006 17:09

Thanks for the sleeping bag and pad advice!

Castles, 36 weeks is in about 2 and a half weeks for me now. So it may even be November, not December!

Thanks, dd is 6 and i can't believe that I can't remember so much! I can't find maternity pads anywhere so far but am off to Gibraltar tomorrow, so I might find some in Morrisons or mothercare. I don't think I bothered last time but 6 years on Sannies seem to have been somewhat streamlined, I think I would have to quadruple up

Elibean · 09/11/2006 18:16

OMG, Loulou! Looks like you and I may well have our babies at almost the same time - my section is booked for 24th, at exactly 38 weeks Scary and exciting all at once - at least for me!

Its great to see all the bouncy people on here today....hurrah for sleep, eh? Think it makes a lot of difference. As does finishing Xmas shopping

Calmriver · 09/11/2006 19:30

BWB-agree on the always ultra nights! I lived in those for 5 weeks solid after DD1 and now have packed my hospital bag with those too. Those and disposable pants!

My date is in 3 weeks tomorrow. I have a scan in the morning where they tell me YET again that I have a small baby and they decide what they will do as far as keeping the date for 3 weeks or bringing it closer...(they will only bring closer if baby slipping off the curve!)...(don't think she is...my appetite is MASSIVE!!!)

My baby shower was fab and I am so excited. I have started washing all baby's clothes and packing them into my hospital bag.

My friend goes back tomorrow after 3 weeks and I will then start forcing myself to get some sleep!

PS having chicken kievs for dinner and chocolate tart for desert(with a movie) Anyone seen Firewall with Nicolas Cage? Any good?

stokeymonkey · 09/11/2006 22:25

i have a cold. A great big stinking snivelling snotty one.
And because I can't have any proper drugs, I have to sit here feeling like my head is full of cement.
happy happy happy!

Going back to the food thing - my sweet tooth has been totally rampant these last few weeks. I get round it by baking a cake - at least that way I know I'm eating organic eggs/flour/cocoa/unrefined sugar, proper butter and no e-numbers or other chemical nasties...doesn't take very long to do once you get the hang of it AND it keeps me out of the cake & bickies aisle at the supermarket. Sweet!

VanillaMilkshake · 10/11/2006 08:15

Morning All,

Loulou, I thought sleeping bags were from 7lbs onwards.

Last day of work for me hurrah. Then off to Mothercare and Tesco straight afterwards for a final spend before being incarcerated in my house for 6 months at the mercy of a 3 year old and new born :-)

Lustful feeling continue......will talk more later as I better get on with training my replacement. All stops for lunch at 11.30am and wont start for me again till June

Elibean · 10/11/2006 09:05

Stokey, poor you....but like the sound of the cake: send me a cyber slice, please!

VM, enjoy it being your last day - hope it goes well, and includes a good send off.

Am miserable again after lots of itching that bicarb didn't fix, and five hours sleep. Tearing skin off at night, can't imagine another two weeks of this?!?

Indith · 10/11/2006 09:10

I just got a birth anouncement e mail off a friend of mine! The baby is so pretty! And I've gone all weepy......I want mine now! I know most babies are actually not very pretty at all when brand new (except to parents obviously) but this one is a little angel! Oh well, 6.5 weeks to go!

tinshoes · 10/11/2006 09:20

wow. its getting closer. the birth announcements will start rolling in

Loulou000 · 10/11/2006 11:04

Elibean, are you booked for 24 november? Wow! So soon! Remind me why you are having a section...

Last day of work for me too! Next week I will probably be on here constantly.

My bugaboo gecko arrived this morning! And big shopping trip last night yielded crib mattress, breast pads, maternity pads, grobag thermometer, baby sponges, and a red velour sleepsuit from le petit bateau for LO's christmas present. Surely I have enough baby stuff now! Oh, except for actual crib. And bedding. Time for a bit of internet shopping now...

have just had my KFC lunch, and received £40 of Mothercare vouchers from my colleagues, very good timing for this afternoons shopping trip and totally unexpected considering I was in the same dept. and received stuff as much from them for DD.

Am going through a quick Q&A session wih my replacement so she's as clued up as possible. Just a 'Thank you' e-mail to write and then I am off off off

Speak to you guys later!
