The last one was getting too long again. There's just no stopping us!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi all,

Have just spent a horrific week in hospital...it all started with a dull pain in my abdomen, got worse in the evening so I went to hospital and they just sent me home saying I should take paracetamol. Got worse the next and from then on it was all one big circus. M/W on duty was convinced I was in early labour (I was 31 weeks) , then senior m/w came and said no, transferred me to high risk, checked me out with those horrid metal clamp thingies and said no not labour, possibly UTI. Stayed the night, after 2 days they said not UTI since nothing grew in my urine (too much information? sorry!), so could be appendicitis and may have to operate on me which means I could go into preterm labour!! DH was terrified and so was I. Anyway so pains and contractions got worse(my uterus was irritated or something), then surgeons reviewed me and said not likely it is appendix. Infection started subsiding and they sent me home after 5 days. I think I have DONE my time in hospital, it's amazing how every single doc has their own opinion. Anyway am glad to be back home now . Finished work last Friday and have to get organised now, still no hosp bag or anything..

VanillaMilkshake · 14/11/2006 19:43

SLB - poor you. I hate going ion to hospital, in the 3 years since DD arrived I have spent enough time there fto last me a lifetime. Visiting mum the 2 m/cs and I could'nt agree more, you never see the same doc twice and each one has there own little take on the problem. Glad you are home now - I too have finished work so we shall rest together!

Eli, the itching is all over at different time, currently my back, where when you scratch too hard it hurts, but if you dont scrath it drives you nuts - also scalp so I look like a right flea bag!

Bump has disappeared - or dropped very low indeed, DH is insistent aht evrything be donw by this weekend. Mine and bumps bags are ready, just have to write a list for DD's bag incase bump wants to arrive before MIL!

After reading in todays paper about women who made thier fortunes on e-bay DH is keen for me to explore this while on maternity leave - at least to boost stat pay to levels of normal - who knows if it works I might just give up work altogether! would;nt that be wonderful!

summerlovebaby · 14/11/2006 19:52

Thanks VM, the funniest was when I was leaving the hospital, they said to me 'Oh come back if you get more pains' in the most sing-song voice quite amusing..

I'm sorry about your itch-scratch situation, hope it gets better-hugs!

Selling on e-bay is great, you should def give it a go, I've sold a few things although whatever money I make gets spent by hubby on golf equipment (shouldn't I be the one spending??)

jabberwocky · 14/11/2006 19:56

judemum - glad to know I'm not the only one still working - misery does love company you know! 2 weeks after this one for me too.

SLB, so sorry to hear about your scare at the hospital and glad everything is OK now.

magnolia - you're in my thoughts, try to remember that, as another poster said, they used to do all sections under general.

getting lots of kicks in the cervix now and have also noticed the, ahem, no constipation thing. Good for me with my history of piles

Lower back seems constantly a bother these days and last night was awful. I didn't get to sleep until after midnight, then was up every hour going to the bathroom. Probably a lot of what set me off in hormonal floods of tears this morning. Believe it or not, that was my first real pg breakdown and I think I was more surprised than dh.

It seems there is sooo much still to do! They called this morning and have managed to move us up on the list to install carpet. Should be in tomorrow - yea! I figured I would start working on packing the bag this week. And, we've decided to look at a new car, so went Monday and am going back Thursday to deal with that. I'm getting exhausted just thinking about it. On the other hand, at least it makes the time go by so I'm not just sitting around watching the clock.

VanillaMilkshake · 14/11/2006 19:58

SLB, already am a seller and find it quite addictive. If bump is a biy then I intend to be selling on there quite alot as under the cot is crammed with bags of girl baby clothes from 0-3 to 24 months. I am the buyer on e-bay usually too, and spend my profits as quickly as I make them. Normally buying more toys and clothes for DD - so is recycling sort of. If Dh get on there with money in the paypal account we receive loads of footie memorabilia (aka crap)

Elibean · 14/11/2006 20:44

SLB, not a fun time at all - scary and painful, poor you. Big hugs, I hope it stays ok from now on.

VM, doesn't sound like a dangerous itch then - just totally horrible, eh?! Do you find if you itch one bit, the rest flares up and spreads everywhere? I do - and yes, behind my ears and sometimes my scalp, to the point where I've got a nitcomb to check myself even though dd has never scratched

I've noticed the not so constipated thing too - for well over a week now. NOt sure if it means much, but its a relief - though sadly I'm still suffering from Those Things, Jabber.

Does anyone have any tips for keeping bp down at this point? Or is just fate now? I'd so like to make it till next week...not even 37 weeks till Friday....

VanillaMilkshake · 14/11/2006 20:49

Eli,. that's my itch, scrath one place and it darts off to lurk somewhere else, usually where i cant reach it!

Also am getting so tired now, really emotionally drained and physically incapable of more than sloth type movement. Even going to bed is a hassle - despite the promise of a soft, warm horizontal environment. I guess because I know I'll be up several times to pee it's hardly like a proper rest and so I dont have much enthusiasm.

DD is at pre-school in the morning and I am now in two minds whether I sleep or iron!

Elibean · 14/11/2006 20:56

Going to bed is my least favourite thing in the day at the moment Gutting, considering how much I'll be longing for horizontal and soft in a few weeks' time!

Mine too, and me too - though think ironing is out with rising bp and doctors orders to rest. Ha.

jabberwocky · 14/11/2006 20:59

Eli, my bp was up quite a bit with ds and the more active I was, the higher it went.

How about lying on the couch eating bon bons all day?

Elibean · 14/11/2006 21:14

Lol - bonbons maybe not (sugary stuff makes the itching worse, damn and blast it ) but sofa is what OB suggested. Tricky with dd, and if she catches me watching day time tv she will argue rather effectively for Peppa Pig or Wonder Pets. Not that I mind relaxing the rules at this stage, but I don't want to watch PP or WP

VanillaMilkshake · 14/11/2006 21:15

when I was sent to labour ward with high BP I was left to rest on a bed and closed my eyes and intoned in my mind (if I had said it out loud DH would have had me committed) 'lower, lower, lower'

Right then Eli, thats both of us for a sleep tomorrow morning and I'll chant for your BP as I drift off!

Elibean · 14/11/2006 21:16

Also, in case any bp experts are on this thread: my bottom number isn't all that bad - mostly in high 70s, occasionally up to 82 max. But the top number - the stress related one - is going up as high as 155 in the evenings, and thats when I'm sitting down.

Last time, they both went up together - ie 145/90, 150/95, and eventually (postpartum) 160/105 at which point they medicated me. OB says they will medicate for a top # of 160 regardless of diatolic figure, would SO like to keep it down!

Elibean · 14/11/2006 21:17

Thanks VM will chant you a non-itch night in return.

VanillaMilkshake · 14/11/2006 21:19

Pepper Pig...now that puts my BP up. Although DD is a bigger Backyardigans fan and all this week we are trying to win the silly competition.

If its not BY it's back to the Thomas DVD, I know the thing word for word now!

My highest BP was 140/110.

But even my booking BP was considered high 120/80, but luckly that means no one worries if I go over 85, unlike normal - so high for me is considered over 90

lucy5 · 14/11/2006 22:17

Hello all! Sorry to hear about the various ailments! I'm starting my week of bloody appointments. I had 2 for dd today and one for me. Off to the clinic again tomorrow. I have had the induction carrot dangled again, will find out next Wednesday. The Gynae today just kept saying gigante, gigante, dios mio! they are now guessing that baby weighs 4 kgs at the moment. Oh lord i hope i'm not late.

I have terrible insomnia and am now constipated, whereas I wasn't. Baby has really quietened down which is always worrying. Anyway hope everyone gets the best nights sleep that they can I am avoiding going to bed yet as I just can't face it. My bp is up tonight and I have a headache, so i'm going to monitor that one too.

Elibean · 14/11/2006 22:41

lucy, may see you in the wee hours with bp monitor in hand

Hope you get some sleep though - and me - and everyone! xx

lucy5 · 14/11/2006 22:55

Hee hee hee, mine is by my side!

Calmriver · 15/11/2006 07:57

Vanilla-

My BP during my section last time went from 80/30 all the way up to 140/110 It was a worry! That was from no fluids though!!!

I had an annoying night, first dreamt I left DD at home on her own by accident and couldn't get home quick enough!
THEN to top it all, I had Thomas the Tank Engine theme tune in my head till I got up at 4:30 to eat as I was SO HUNGRY! Baby even got hiccups again!

Elibean · 15/11/2006 09:01

Wow, aren't bps supposed to drop during sections, due to the epi/spinal? I hope mine doesn't go up - its 140/80 first thing this morning as it is!

I think the highest I got to was about 160/105, it took two days to get it down to normal levels using Nifedipine - and that was a week after dd was born. Really hope they can sort some kind of home-plan monitoring/treatment for me this time, would hate to leave dd1 and dh for the best part of two weeks

Woke up at 7am after reasonable-ish night too excited and nervous to go back to sleep, hmm, anything to do with section consent form sitting on bedside table d'you think?!?

Calm, nothing worse than Thomas tunes at 4am...except perhaps Dora voices...

jabberwocky · 15/11/2006 11:51

Glad to know I'm not the only one having a bit of anxiety about the section. Most of the time I feel pretty calm about it, then it sort of washes over me and I start to panic. Still am glad I'm having section over VBAC though...

VanillaMilkshake · 15/11/2006 12:30

Hope the Thomas theme tune is'nt my fault...but i find myself humming "They're tow, They're four, They're six, They're eight etc. most of the day and night!

Had a shower this monring and some nice moisturising shower cream so the itihcing is not too bad. Or maybe it was Eli's chanting .

How is 140/80 for your Eli - if the top figure is the one your concentrating on? That would be ideal for me.

judemum · 15/11/2006 13:28

Dont know the Thomas Theme tune, but do get the Balamory one stuck in my head... Baaa-Laaaa-Moooo-Reeee"- drives me mad and DS1 sings it the whole time....

castlesintheair · 15/11/2006 13:59

Eli & Lucy, a couple of things that might help lower your bp:

  1. Hawthorn - herbal tincture or can you get hawthorn tea?
  2. Juice half lemon + 2 tsps cream tartar in half a cup once a day for 3 days.

Worth a try, won't do you any harm anyway, though might not be very tasty .

Eat lots of cucumbers & garlic! Usually high bp at this stage of pg is due to deficiency in calcium, magnesium & potassium so stuff your faces with foods containing those.

tinshoes · 15/11/2006 14:59

someone please release me from this boredom!!!

on pg note, i am getting braxton hicks every 20 mins. My body is so cruel - every couple of days it does this and then just stops...

judemum · 15/11/2006 15:21

Hello Tin- I am getting lots of BH as well. They are pretty brutal and then go again for a while....

also bored..
