The last one was getting too long again. There's just no stopping us!

OP posts:

Calmriver · 11/11/2006 15:10

The names sound good to me too.. Have you all noticed how they all seem to start with A???

Indith · 11/11/2006 16:06

As far as I'm aware the 'd' is not pronounced

True we seem to be going towards the 'As' funny that. God knows what mine will be called should he be a he.....poor mite better come out a girl!

Elibean · 11/11/2006 17:23

Ah, two ways of pronouncing it then.

My dds are fated to have names they have to explain the pronounciation of anyway

Wonder what Mischa would be shortened to? Mimi? Michou? (by the French lot)

dd still wants to call her sister-to-be Yup Yup

Elibean · 11/11/2006 17:24

Different subject: bump is not moving much today, but very hard. Looking like a giant, unshelled peanut, swallowed sideways. I suspect the less moving is due to lack of space, but should I be worrying? If so, when?! Never really given it much thought before, with dd either...

Indith · 11/11/2006 17:30

I would think Michou. Tis cute!

My kids will have the same fate, so hard to find something that really works in both languages! Love Molly too but doesn't really work in French, nor does Harriet! I should have been an Aurelie but mum decided best not when she realised that all the English including my dad pronounce it Orily!

Your dd bilingual Eli?

Elibean · 11/11/2006 19:37

Yes! So far, but have to say pre-school (being English only) is making the English overtake...and I'm finding it hard to reply in French when dd talks to me at top speed in English

How about you, Indith? Doing the bilingual thing?

Names beginning with 'h' are out, aren't they - plus, there are so many I like in French (like Arianne) that the Brit pronounciation of just doesn't match up to. Or vice versa, I suppose.

I do like Michou...though she won't want anyone calling her that by the time she's at school...

Elibean · 11/11/2006 19:39

Molly might be ok in French....?? I suppose depends how much time they're going to spend in French speaking circles v. English speaking.

jabberwocky · 11/11/2006 19:47

Eli, my bump gets really hard adn still when I'm active a lot. Have you tried the drinking water, lying on left side thing?

tinshoes · 11/11/2006 20:42

wow, 2 of my friends have just had babies - one on thrursday and on today. both 2nd children and one only got to the hospital with 10 minutes to spare - eek!

accessorizequeen · 11/11/2006 20:45

Ahh, names are all lovely, wish I was having a girl now. DP is decided on Elliot, but I just don't love it the way I loved ds1's name (decided on at 20 weeks, and I never wavered). Should I be loving it as I have looked at about 5,000 names so far and that's the only one we agree on. It's just that DP's last name starts with E, so I think it sounds a little odd. A friend's nephew called Elio (they're french) which is v.sweet but you wouldn't get away with it where I live
Is anyone else planning trips out based on where there's a toilet as I can't last more than an hour and quite frankly am uncomfortable after 15 mins most of the time! Really bugging me as I'm fairly sure he's not engaged at all. How can it get worse than this??
Lovely community m/w came this afternoon just to have a chat, rang me out of the blue. I just think that's really nice, hadn't expected that & I've appts with consultant & clinic in next 10 days anyway. She reassured me that there would be full staffing over christmas, I'd somehow envisioned skeleton staff...

Elibean · 11/11/2006 22:32

AQ, toilet based trips definitely a necessity these days! Elio is sweet...never heard of it. My dd is Elia I think first and last names starting with same letter can work well - depends what they are, probably. If we go for Mischa, we'll have an MM.....or an MHM, to be exact...

Jabber, thanks for that - probably what it is. I have had some dull thuds tonight, she's definitely still in there and kicking; suspect there's just not a lot of room, lying sideways!

lucy5 · 11/11/2006 22:45

We like leo for a boy and martha or Scarlett for a girl but we will wait and see as dd didn't look like any of the names on our list, so it took us a few days to come up with something.

My sister's friend has just given birth to a baby boy called Sebastian, she had been told she was having a girl who she had named Hannah!!!

spinamum · 11/11/2006 22:56

Yep. Toliet based shopping seems to be happening here. The number of times I've used DS1 as a decoy so that people don't think I'm completely unable to hold a wee for more than 15 mins! Only prob is that he very clearly says"but mummy I don't need a wee" as I drag him back to the toilet I left ten minutes earlier. I think my recent suspected uti was just a shift change in my (lack of) bladder control.

Had my parentcraft day today and we were the only 2nd timers. DH was "tense" the whole way through! I kept embarassing him by answering questions. (In my defence, M/W did keep asking me things) It was a bit daft however as I didn't tell it like it was. What is the point in frightening a group of woman with stories of 32 hour labours, meconium in fluid, resusitated baby and not being able to follow my birth plan without getting the chance to explain the full story and that my three year old is fine (better than fine in fact[proud mum emoticon).
M/W was doing the "happy-no-intervention-necessary-everyone-gives-birth-actively version of labour and in my first NHS classes three years ago, all I can remember what the 2 timer grunted a lot and said" yeah right" and was very negative about labour in general. No help to anyone really.

Hope I'm not stressing anyone out BTW. The point is that I have a lovely son and even though I didn't get to do stuff on my birth plan, it can't be that bad cos I'm back for a second dose

spinamum · 11/11/2006 23:09

BTW How many threads have we being through by now? Just curious!

off to bed. a girl needs her sleep if she's to survive another week at work! Got a rare m/w appointment on monday so need a clear head to bribe her for a stretch and sweep at 38 weeks! Or maybe I could convince her I'm actually due on 25th Nov and I'll have a two week old by xmas!(when they induce me at "42" weeks!) Or maybe I just need to sleep!

Can ya tell I'm getting bored with being pg?

jabberwocky · 11/11/2006 23:50

spina, I totally agree, it's time to see the beanies! I vacillate though, from enjoying the little moves and kicks and the soon-to-end one on one time with ds to feeling like I'm going to burst (in more ways than one ) if lo doesn't get here soon.

But, we still don't have the carpet down in the nursery so I need these 3 weeks to get ready.

Eli, with ds being frank breech, the poor little tyke just didn't have room to move very much. I suspect yours is much the same.

Elibean · 12/11/2006 10:29

Jabber, after all that - bump never stopped wriggling all night long! YOu were right, she prefers me quiet to active...

Spina, had exact same experience with antenatal group: 23 women wanting to focus totally on the birth bit (which I know little about, having had an e-section after failed induction) and hoping I could make them less anxious. And HV giving the party line about how much support there is for b-feeding if you run into difficulties, etc...I just kept quiet! I've stopped going - didnt' seem much point, can't go to coffee meet ups with the only 3 yr old in tow, and am having anotehr section anyway. shame though, very nice women there - just didnt' make sense to carry on.

Off to Mothercare and Marks to find fleecy dressing gown for me and blankets for dd, who has decided she hates pillows and duvets and kicks them out of her bed even on freezing cold nights Loving her to bits at the moment, but threenagers, oy......

Elibean · 12/11/2006 10:29

At least they both have toilets though

Indith · 12/11/2006 11:47

Ah toilets! Can't go anywhere without either needing to eat or go to the loo!

Eli-will be going for the bilingual thing, my English is dominant though, since moving out of home I don't exactly speak French much for obvious reasons. Still, been getting back in the habit of going over on a regular basis and it is already better now than it was last year. Dp speaks good French too which I'm sure will help. Will be hard for your dd as she'll be getting so much 'school' vocab in English she doesn't have in French and just wants to tell you all about it! My mum never spoke to us in English until we were in our teens basically.

I seem to have lost the ribs that had reappeared! How is that? Has he just decided to move up again after dropping a bit? Odd little person.

annaspanner · 12/11/2006 13:21

LOL on the toilet based shopping. Went shopping with a friend and her six month old daughter recently and she totally understood...as soon as we arrived in shopping centre 'you'll be needing the toilet, won't you? I'll wait here' then 'you'll be needing a rest now' etc etc. What a star! And I got some shopping-with-baby practice too.

As for movement, my LO has really changed recently since she's moved into lift off position... much less movement and less varied. I asked the midwife to check her position and stuff and spent a good 10 minutes lyin on the sofa, being poked and prodded by her and DP 'that's her bum! that's an ankle!'. I'm just too scared to prod that deeply.

As for names, getting DP to give any help just takes too much effort. Took ages this morning to tie him down to some names that he(and I) like. Just going for Spanish ones now-Gabriela, Bea or Noemi. But still think we have yet to find the perfect one

dublindee · 12/11/2006 15:37

Hi All
I'm currently dying of a cold and feeling utterly miserable at the moment (although so much better than last weekend when I was laid low with nasty bout of diarrhoea and vomiting). We had to get the doctor out to give me an injection to stop the vom tide and DP took the Monday off to look after DS.
I was so relieved as even though I felt better I was weak as a kitten and hadn't eaten in 30+ hours.
DS has decided like so many others on here that "MUMMY" is number one - even though Daddy is normally the fun parent. I reckon he senses something's up!
He comes over and pats bump says "Baba" and then then pulls up my top so he can kiss the bump. VERY SWEET. I'm just wondering how long it'll last after baby arrives???!!!

Sleep is getting almost impossible now. 36 weeks and I feel like I've been pregnant forever!
Anyone gone early from our thread since I last posted?

accessorizequeen · 12/11/2006 15:57

Hope you feel better soon dublindee

V. relieved am not abnormal with toilet-based shopping & anything else. Went to pizza express for lunch (how good are they with kids?!, I love that place) and felt so stupid going as soon as I arrived & then 10 mins later. Got 3 hours of sleep in one go last night, felt like it was such an achievement! Only spatone stopping me from wanting to lie down on the sofa and stay there for 5 weeks.
Jabber, I can't see the floor in our nursery for baby clothes, so you're not the only one. I'm trying to sort through 3 years worth of ds's clothes as there's no way I'll be doing in come the new year.

chelle479 · 12/11/2006 17:49

hello ladies

Im new here, well, have been reading posts for a little while, but not really posted much...yet lol.

I'm due my first daughter on the 6th of december, and I'm really excited.

Just wanted to say hello, and wish everyone good luck with their lil babies

hugs chelle x

Elibean · 12/11/2006 18:35

Welcome chelle

Indith, my Mum mostly still speaks to us in French and we're all in our forties...! Though she would join in in English in group situations. I never went to a French school, but my Dad spoke good french, like your dp...my own dp understands well, but only speaks a bit, and always in English to dd So to compensate, I got a French mothers help who has been with us p/t since dd was 14 months old...has helped a lot, my own French much improved too. Last major relative in Paris is nearly 100...we do talk for ages on the phone, but tends to be repetitive...

Dublindee, sounds like you've been through the mill.....take half a dozen (((()))))s and a mug of cyber hot ginger and lemon, and hope you feel better soon.

Elibean · 12/11/2006 18:38

Oh - M&S/MC were mission accomplished, but dd and I fell over like dominoes in M&S: was a bit scary, and seriously painful. She tripped, pulled me off balance, I fell face forwards so stuck my knee out to protect Bump (bump fine, knee not fine) and pulled poor dd down the rest of the way with me. We both cried though me only because the nearest ladies were sooo kind. Very relived to feel Bump kick hard when I ate some B&J frozen choccy yoghurt at lunchtime....

Gave me an inkling of how elderly people feel losing their balance easily, and being so vulnerable - not nice.

tinshoes · 12/11/2006 18:41

welcome chelle, i'm quite new too but everyone v. friendly.

elibean - what a shock. glad you're ok.
