If you're due in November 2015, well here's your ante natal club! Come and talk about vomit inducing man-scents, cheese roasties you simply cannot do without/or stand, the picked ice cream you must have right now, and the bubbling desire to tell the world but checking dates to restrain yourself!

Heya I am 9+4 but look really pregnant as so bloated! Feeling really uncomfortable and don't want people to ask as not telling anyone yet. Any tips to reduce bloating?

Ramadamdam · 08/04/2015 00:16

I look very pregnant, all of sudden too. I didn't look this big until I was maybe 20w last time. I am barely eating. I am actually loosing weight but still the tummy has grown.
I may or may not have ordered some maternity stuff from asos

BowiesJumper · 08/04/2015 07:40

I already had a bit of a belly so nowhere near showing yet! (9+4). Just a bit fatter!!

roughtyping · 08/04/2015 07:51

I definitely look fatter - hate it! Bloating - drinking lots of water helps. Woke up overnight needing to pee and my tummy was massive!

Morning ladies. Back to work this morning after a lovely day off. Boss is back after her holiday. Slightly worried as I know when I tell her the news in a few weeks time she may very well make my life difficult. She has had huge fertility struggles and won't be very family friendly. Am going to wait as long as possible to tell her. I can stand up for myself but really don't want it to be awkward.

When is everyone thinking of telling work?

sophiaslullaby · 08/04/2015 08:02

Morning all,
Ninja -your boss has not right to give you a hard time but can see why she might hold a grudge on a personal level (still not good). Can you also inform HER boss too so if things get sticky, you can go to upper management and explain? Cover your back.

I am a freelancer and so luckily it shouldn't bother my employers but insurance wise they have to add my pregnancy. My new agent won't be best pleased though. I'm not telling them till I know everything is ok. Also legally I don't think you need to tell till half through at 20 weeks.... I think.

That's not good. Agree is you can cover yourself if you think she is going to make things difficult for you.

Will be telling my line manager in a couple of weeks when I'm 11 weeks . Have my appraisal booked for the end of the month so want to tell her just before that then use appraisal time to talk more in detail . Don't really want to spring it on her in the appraisal . I'm line managed remotely to only see her face to face at my appraisal every year, looking v bloated so will be rather obvious by end of the month!

In other news found asda do brill crop top bras (2 for £7) to sleep in -boobs a LOT better this morning and not as sore overnight. Result.

Have a good day all

NotSpartacus · 08/04/2015 08:52

Morning all. Just checking in. I'm now 8w 6 days and quite nervous. My symptoms have stopped and I can eat again (in fact I am ravenous). My boobs don't really hurt any more unless I poke them really really hard, which I do every five minutes.

In my last pregnancy the bean stopped growing at nearly 9 weeks and the heartbeat stopped. So i am v v nervous and struggling to concentrate at work...
Hope everyone is feeling ok.

I finally took the plunge and booked a hospital. Went for the Whit, purely because it wasn't awful when I had Dd2 and I know it is only 15 mins in the car afterwards. Can always change my mind later if need be!

flyingsprocket · 08/04/2015 09:59

Sore boobs here too, poppyninja are those asda crop bras kinda sports bras? I'm normally an A cup, they seem to be a C already & rock solid.

I've had to tell work already, technically we're obliged to tell them as soon as we find out because we can't continue to work in the same role. Some people often "find out" quite late! I told them at about 7 weeks.

spartacus try not to worry, stupid thing to say really I suppose! Here's to sticky beans for us all! I made it to 17 weeks this time & don't think I'll really believe it til I get there again, 8 more weeks. It feels like an eternity.

nehagarg · 08/04/2015 10:00

Oh no, thats such a horrible thing to happen ... All will be ok NotSpartacus. Hang in there! I am in the same boat. 10w2d now and it feels like an eternity for the first scan, which Whittington have booked for the 25th.

Been wondering if a fetal doppler off amazon will be of any use? I know they advertise using it 12 weeks and after. It might give me some reassurance between scans that the baby is still alive.

What do you girls think? Anyone ever used one?

annatha · 08/04/2015 10:02

ninjabeer I was in a similar situation last time (hence why I'm not looking forward to telling her again...) And I would just make sure that you're clued up on your rights and what you're entitled to. Maternity action is a brilliant website for that. My pregnancy was never explicitly made a problem (as that would be discrimination) but there were hints here and there- there was no sympathy if I was worrying about lifting something or had to run away from customers to be sick, and on the few occasions I had to go home sick halfway through the day it was obvious that she wasn't happy. I completely understand the frustration of TTC for so long but its not fair to take it out on others, especially in a professional situation. And make use of the paid time off for appointments and scans- you still need your days off to rest. I was expected to use my rest days and at first I would but soon I was never having two days off together because they had to fall when my appointments were, and I was knackered cos my only days off were spent traveling 50 miles each way to the hospital to get poked and prodded.

Sorry I've written a bloody essay! I suppose what I'm saying is to everyone- look after yourselves at work and don't try and be wonder woman!

SnozzberryPie · 08/04/2015 10:23

Notspartacus fingers crossed all is ok.

I told my boss at about six weeks last time, I had to go to the epu for some early bleeding and burst into tears in her office Blush. Luckily she was great about it and encouraged me to take things easy and didn't tell senior management till I was ready. I am really lucky actually.

Told my boss at 6 weeks though but only because i had a review pending and didnt want to spring it on him then. He is a family man and has been brilliant about it. Going to hold off telling anyone else at work though and will just let them work it out eventually.

Lauramum23 · 08/04/2015 11:42

I'm trying to keep quiet for as long as possible as I only started the job a week before I found out oooppps! It's only cleaning 2 days a week tho they will soon find someone else.
Think I need to work 26 weeks before I can claim maternity allowance so I must keep that in mind. It's quite hard work tho it's like cleaning my house 3 times over twice per week!

God I'm hungry! Dinner time me thinksSmile

Frescoed · 08/04/2015 11:44

Quick question for anyone who's done this before/more clued up than me: I've had an appointment letter through which seems to suggest I'm doing booking appt and dating scan at the same time (it'll be pretty much at 12 weeks). GP receptionist says nothing else before that.

If I opt for the Nuchal test, should I let them know in advance, or would they expect to ask you and do it on the day? I had thought the booking appt would be in advance, so I could go through thid stuff/ask stupid questions, etc....

Thanks Annbag, I've got some leaflets through so I'll take a good look at those, good to know the tests aren't physically a big deal too.

Navigating the NHS is certainly a special experience....

annatha · 08/04/2015 12:20

Off topic but I found this earlier and it made me chuckle!

I had to tell work strait away as there's stuff I can't do already (I'm a vet nurse) so it doesn't feel like a secret. am very impatiently waiting for my scan date, I'm ten weeks today
there's a really bad stomach bug going around that incapacitates you for a week and I'm so scared of getting it Sad

BleachedBarnet · 08/04/2015 12:53

I do feel lucky on the job front as my partner is my boss - we run a company together although he is the only shareholder. However on the flipside this means I'm quite worried about taking time off for maternity leave as we're a small company and me not being there will pile the pressure on DP!
