yeah I went Hmm at that bit too. but the stuff about not expecting it, or blaming one's parenting, was good imo

Whatabout · 14/04/2015 22:14

Some babies sleep, some don't. Having a baby that slept I know it was nothing I did :)

Did you see the article today saying if they don't sleep they have difficulties in later childhood? So many different opinions. But I did feel the buzzfeed article was very pro-not sleeping, which was odd! No one wants a waking baby, reassurance that it will end maybe and that you aren't doing anything wrong

monkeymoonpig · 14/04/2015 23:06

Soppy mummy moment earlier - put DS (3 in May) to bed, he turned to give me a cuddle and i put beautiful version of Oh My Darling Clementine on (Youtube it - sung Magnus Carlson, i played it to DS from being pregnant) and he fell asleep so quick in my arms. Looked so peaceful. All the shite times are forgotten in an instant dont think ill ever forget the 5mths of colicwe're so blessed having children, being a mummy is defo best thing ever xx

Maths88 · 15/04/2015 05:52

Monkey that is the cutest thing!

Can't wait to have moments like that with my boy!

DH out tonight so I can go to bed super early without feeling in the least bit antisocial - not that he ever says anything I just feel bad doing it normally!

18+4 and getting very impatient for 20 week scan which is at 20+3 - seems a lifetime away!

Buzzfeed article was interesting but I'm just gonna try and go with the flow of what happens - easily said lol!

Does anyone recommend any books about young babies - this is my first and I have to admit to being fairly clueless about everything baby related other than what I've picked up on here!

Snowflake15 · 15/04/2015 07:04

Is anyone getting like extreme hunger? Last sat I had really bad stomach pains because of it and yesterday, even though I had a chicken Caesar salad and chips for dinner I had bad hunger pains within an hour and had to get McDonald's Sad I didn't even feel hungry or have the desire to eat but my stomach was killing me

I've never heard of anyon else getting this? I'm only 16+6 - Thinking I should mention to my consultant at our appt next thursConfused

amusville · 15/04/2015 07:44

snowflake I've been getting this in the middle of the night. Find if I drink half a pint of water it settles it and I'm not starving in the morning. I do eat two breakfasts now though about two hours apart Blush

shinjuku09 · 15/04/2015 08:14

I've never read before about difficult sleepers having problems later on! But I have read the opposite that difficult sleepers can be more intelligent when older so I'm going to listen to that research instead Grin

Re baby books. I quite liked a book called First Time Mum which is very basic but at least doesn't try to preach about particular ways of parenting. Otherwise it depends really on whether you just want the basics like nappies and practical things or parenting advice etc. There are books on everything and from all different perspectives. My baby didn't sleep and wanted to be held all day and Gina Ford type books were completely irrelevant to me (wouldn't have followed them anyway as not my thing) but I found the Dr Sears books invaluable. My best book was the La Leche League breastfeeding book. I've dipped back into it so many times! It's helped give ammunition when I think HVs and gps etc are giving bad advice!

ovumahead · 15/04/2015 09:32

I second Dr Sears - always good solid advice which matches my own philosophy well.

Snowflake15 · 15/04/2015 10:59

amusville I've been having two breakfasts since about 6 weeksBlush one before I leave at 7 and another at around 9.30 at work! I don't think the problem is the amount im eating as I'm certainly not starving myself - I will try to increase my water intake! Water gives me bloody heartburn thoughSad

Maths88 · 15/04/2015 11:57

I thought it was just me with the two breakfasts! Glad it's not!

shinjuku09 · 15/04/2015 12:09

I've always eaten two breakfasts Blush

I also eat my lunch by 11 if I can!

lovesmycake · 15/04/2015 12:18

I eat two breakfasts at the moment - the second one is a twix Blush

Fantastic links from Llama! I could have written that list myself!!

shinjuku09 · 15/04/2015 15:04

I also love the Aha Parenting website and the associated book.

Bippidee · 15/04/2015 15:45

Great links and book suggestions there, llama. May I add the Sheila Kitzinger books too?

MarjoryStewartBaxter · 15/04/2015 15:51

Quietly waving hello, have been meaning to join this thread since BFP in January. I'm due on 11th September. Do we add our own stats to the spreadsheet?

Love the book list envious, doing my amazon wishlist now Smile

Food of Love by Kate Evans is another good one.

londonliv · 15/04/2015 16:59

Also waving hello! Due 14th of September! Have been ravenously hungry this week which makes a nice change from my complete disinterest in food during the first few months!

mrsdos · 15/04/2015 17:08

Hello ladies, welcome Smile

I am constantly starving at the moment, not helped by the fact dh has put rationing in place due to him putting on some weight last week while we were on holiday (rationing may be punishment for me laughing at his trousers being a bit snug!! Grin) Take a packed lunch and snacks for work and finding that lunchbox is no longer big enough Shock fruit takes up far too much room!

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 15/04/2015 17:50

I was a constant grazer before pregnancy, now I'm a bloody nightmare! Always have a stash of dried fruit, nuts and cereal bars in my handbag!

Also second the drinking thing. I always try this when I'm hungry just in case I'm actually thirsty.

Maths88 · 15/04/2015 18:11

Thanks for all the book suggestions.

So excited, dh has just booked us four nights in Paris in May as a birthday present/baby moon! The last time we went to Paris was 9 years ago for our first anniversary so can't wait to go back!

We are going to have a day or two at Disney - mainly soaking up the atmosphere and seeing shows not rides - and a couple of days in Paris itself. Cannot wait! We are massive Disney fans - had our honeymoon at Disney world Florida and been back since - so this will be great!

Anyone else having a little break pre baby?

DeladionInch · 15/04/2015 18:47

We're going to try and get to Scotland with ds as a sort of honeymoon. It's the only country in the British Isles I've not been to. But it depends if he's in stable employment, if I can find a cheap enough deal, and if we can face it on top of organising a wedding!

shinjuku09 · 15/04/2015 19:37

Exciting Maths that sounds fab! Bet you can't wait.

We've got a couple of pre-baby breaks lined up though of course with DD it's not quite a relaxing bsbymoon!

shinjuku09 · 15/04/2015 19:37

Or even a babymoon
