We're hoping to know where we'll be living before looking at childcare. I definitely can't afford nursery, so it's going to be a childminder and will probably just be the cheapest one who isn't a complete idiot. :/

Lilydreams · 14/05/2015 14:44

That's one of the reasons we've decided on nursery too Frolic- ours will defo be youngest in the year so want to make sure he has that social/ structured learning element and they do before/ after school too so like you say can be there long term! Plus if this government deliver on their promises Hmm should get 30 hours free childcare/ early education by the time he's 3 and this nursery facilitates that too! Have to admit if I was going back to work full time I'd not be able to afford nursery would have had to be child minder.

Pinkie- we're hoping for 2 days maximum although I think we can probably manage 1.5 days with some logistical organisation of who will pick up/ drop off etc round our shifts! I felt silly for thinking about it so early but I'm an organisation/ control freak so it helps me to stay calm if it's organised plus the lady I enquired to was so lovely it reassured me it wasn't too early!

Dozygirl · 14/05/2015 16:21

Lily worth looking into nurseries that have flexible places rather than set days to fit in with shift workers. Some have just a limited amount. Not all do though.

I'm very lucky in that my mum wants to look after baby when I'm work so I'll be able to work any shift and my mum can do childcare in the week and if I'm on a weekend then dp can have her. It's good to think of it early on though due to the lack of spaces and waiting lists as lily said.

dillydollydarling · 14/05/2015 17:18

I'm also very lucky in that MIL lives just around the corner and doesn't work so she will be able to look after baby when I eventually go back to work if OH happens to be working that day.

Obviously once a bit older, baby will go to nursery any way just for the social and educational side of it. But until then, family are happy to help when they can Smile

Dozygirl · 14/05/2015 20:43

Oh also my mum runs a local mum's and toddlers group so the baby will be going there to get interaction with other kids so she'll get the best of both worlds.

Anyone else feeling seriously unsexy at the moment? I've got thrush, piles, heartburn and just feel absolutely massive. Not in the slightest bit sexy Sad and I feel so bad for OH. Sex has been a bit of a rare occurrence since I've been pregnant and as much as he says he doesn't mind, I'm sure he's missing it!!

Frolicacid · 15/05/2015 09:02

Good morning!! And it's Friday! Yippee!!!!
I put a pillow under the bump last night and had a much better night's sleep.

26 weeks for me today! My app says 3 rd trimester starts now, but Google tells me it's not for another week or so. I feel bad wishing the time away, but I'm really not enjoying pregnancy much. I think I can now say the 2nd trimester glow is officially bullshit.

Yes, yes to all of the above dilly! Plus my huge, sore boobs. I don't feel remotely sexy at the moment. Dh is being great, but like you, I can't help but feel sorry for him.

Have a happy Friday everyone! Another week closer to mat leave Smile

happygojo · 15/05/2015 09:40

My MIL wants to take the baby for a regular day, but she lives over an hour away from where we live, and 45 mins from where we work (me and OH work at the same place). We work 8am-4pm Monday-Friday. I am just not sure it is a good idea. When she worked she called in sick quite regularly (bad back, 'viruses', depression). I just can't see her getting to where I work for 8am every Tuesday (for example). I just don't think it is fair on anyone to commit to that. I know bringing it up will cause a row though. I also would rather her look after the baby at our house because of the smoking issue. Maybe I will do a terms trial, it is just because if she can't take the baby on one of the days, we are screwed, one of us would have to just take a days leave. Maybe my judgement is clouded due to other issues with MIL. Currently she is annoyed because we aren't spending her birthday with her (because we are working and my mum and friend are staying as my baby shower is the next day). We offered to spend the weekend before with her but have been informed that it doesn't count unless it is on the day, we apparently only get 'one shot'........ in laws eh!?

Definitely feeling unsexy, the bartholins cyst that may or may not be growing isn't helping me to feel like any intimacy!

Equimum · 15/05/2015 13:10

Hello! I've not been around on here for ages, but thought I would dip back in. I hope that's okay with everyone.

Childcare decisions are so difficult, aren't they? I'm lucky this time, as I'll be staying at home with LO. I went back to work after DS and he went to nursery from 9months old, but only for a couple of days each week.

happygo that sounds a bit tricky re. your mother-in-law. Could you ask her to be 'emergency cover' if you don't think she will be reliable enough for regular care?

I'll be 27 weeks tomorrow and I feel so unprepared! Obviously, we still have lots of things from DS, but the fact we'll have a baby in just a number if week doesn't really seem to have sunken in! We need to sort Moses basket/ cot mattresses, car seat and breast pump, as well as the bits for me to take into hospital etc. It's not really that much to sort, but I'm beginning to feel I should have made more of a start by now.

I'm another one being blighted by thrush! I was stood at a toddler group this morning desperate to scratch!

Anyway, happy weekend everyone.

HeffaLumpers · 15/05/2015 15:38

Hello! Frolic I'm 27 weeks today and the 2nd trimester glow is starting to fade and the first bits of 3rd trimester uncomfortableness are starting.

equimum i feel underprepared too. I need to get dd a new bed to free up the cot, new materess for the Moses basket and start thinking about stuff for the birth. I'm sure I was so much more organised last time despite there being so much more to do. Need to get my bum in gear.

I passed my driving test yesterday so I'm delighted about that. I'm not going to have to wrestle a bus hating, pushchair escaping toddler and a newborn onto a bus!

Have we got a fb group?

pinkie87 · 15/05/2015 16:18

Hi heffalumpers! Congrats on your driving test!! We do have a FB group. If you search for Alex Barlow on FB (her profile pic is of her and her son with a thomas birthday cake!) and message her she will add you to the group.

Currently stressing as I feel super guilty about potentially going back to work full time after baby is born (hopefully I can take 12 months off!). I'm so sad that I will miss out on so much of him growing up. I know this may seem ridiculous as this stage, but I really can't help it.

Dozygirl · 15/05/2015 16:29

27 weeks today. As it's the 15th that means it's 3 months till due date! 7 more weeks left in work before annual leave then maternity. It's all starting to feel more real.

There was going to be a baby boot sale local to me this weekend but I've hat hears it's been cancelled which is a bit gutting as I was looking forward to a root round for some bargains.

Hope u all have a lovely weekend. I'm off to a wedding tomorrow but just the evening do and am gonna be surrounded by skinny pretty ladies and i can't drink to frown my sorrow haha. I'm only messing, I'm sure I'll enjoy it really.

Happy Friday everybody!

I'm a little blue at the moment, just had a bit of a cry again over the fact it still seems likely I will be back at work by November (this year). DH is out at the moment, which is good as he feels so guilty for not earning more money! Bless him! I know everything will be okay, it's just hard to deal with Sad

dozy I can't believe where the time is going - it's flying by!

heffalumpers Congrats on passing your driving test! I hope to start learning as soon as possible and to be driving in early 2016; I loathe buses!

Joskar · 15/05/2015 19:57

Dd is in nursery 3 days a week and with dh 2 days. He earns lots less than childcare costs but he would hate not to work at all. I'm ft. When I go on to smp that's pretty much all our income. It's amazing how frugal you can become when you need to! Love the nursery. Also love that they don't phone in sick or go off on holiday. Not that there are any childminders nearby so it was always going to be nursery. I think it's really good for kids to experience something different from home. Plus dd eats and sleeps there neither of which she does at home so probably they are actually responsible for keeping her alive!

Well done on the driving test! It's the best feeling ever.

RainbowTortoise · 15/05/2015 20:30

Just had a bit of a shock, weighed myself and I have put on two stone already! I'm feeling huge today which is why I weighed, I should stay away from the scales now right?!

I have not been on here for a while, I think I am in slight denial that I will have another little one to look after in three months. Very excited but nervous at the same time.

Dozy I'm going to a nearly new sale on Sunday, I have picked up some lovely bits second hand. Mamas and papas sleepsuits never worn, little hats, vests and other bits including a close change mat which are brilliant. Babies hate the cold feeling of the plastic change mats, would recommend them for at home and in the change bag. We did not find out the sex of the baby so I have been buying a few bits in blue just incase Smile Already have a little girl and we have kept all her baby clothes.

ChanceBeAFineThing · 15/05/2015 20:58

Oo Dozy, I'm going to a wedding tomorrow too. Not looking forward to the 2 hour drive to get there though, I've got spd/sciatica and in constant pain, can't walk. Drs gave me codeine and a friend has procured some crutches for me. Really starting to suffer now Sad

Anyone else with pelvic issues, what can I do?

Frolicacid · 16/05/2015 07:37

Your mil sounds like very hard work happy. Think carefully about relying too much on her.

Welcome back equimum. Hi heffalumps, congratulations on passing your driving test.

Don't stress pinkie. Plenty of people work full time and their chikdren are fine. I'll be back 4 or 5 days by next September, depending on finances.
Same for you omc. You have to do what's necessary for your family. Baby will be fine, they are really adaptable at that age. Don't be hard on yourselves Flowers

Enjoy the weddings dozy and chance.

I've not had pelvic pain at all, thank god. Sorry you are suffering. My bump is getting quite sore by the end of the day and the ligaments really pull at times.

I hope everyone has a good weekend. I'm off to meet an old friend for the night. It will be lovely to catch up and have a nice meal. But I'm irrationally worried about how I'll cope without dh. He's so good to me at the moment. Going away from him for 24 hours feels strange. Hormones anyone?!

ruby242 · 16/05/2015 07:43

Good morning all!

Chance, I have had amazing success with a chiropractor for my pelvic girdle pain. I was seeing a physio and osteopath who weren't really making any difference. My friend recommended this chiropractor who does a lot with pregnant women, so i figured I'd give it a go as a last resort. As soon as she adjusted me (it was very gentle, no big cracks or clicking like I was expecting!) I got up and felt a huge difference! I still get some discomfort but it is like night and day. It is expensive (£40 a session) but I really recommend trying it.

I have a new symptom-leg cramps at night! Been woken up by them twice now!

Rainbow I had a shock on the scales too, think I may just avoid them from now on!

Pram arrives today, can't wait to get it all set up :)

ruby242 · 16/05/2015 07:45

Frolic that is very sweet that you don't want to be away from dh :) Id take it as a good thing!

Dozygirl · 16/05/2015 09:31

Awww frolic that's cute. Enjoy your time with your friend though. I went away for 2 nights to.visit my friend but she was much better at looking after me than my dp is so you're very lucky.

I don't have any advice for spd sorry. Also lucky I don't suffer seeing as I was in the car 6 hours yesterday driving up from Guildford.

Bump is definitely getting to the point of being annoying though now and getting in the way. I'd quite like it to stop growing now. I really don't want to get any bigger haha.

I'm going Saturday shopping which I hate but decided the dress I've chosen for the wedding isn't right so I need to find something else.

Ola from Lanzarote! Have found a spot of wifi so thought I'd pop by and say hello then have a good old read and catch up.
Having a lovely time but it's bloody hot! (Shouldn't whinge but it's 40degrees ffs!!). Sticking to the shade where there's a breeze which helps.
I also feel very on show/beached whale sitting around the pool and convinced everyone is staring. However overall so glad we came away, lots of baby chat with DH and we're both getting super excited. Still not overly convinced that he realises she'll be here pretty soon so we really need to get a head start o picking a push chair and cot etc etc!
I also have a wedding to go to next weekend and need a new dress. Literally tried on everything in my wardrobe a week before we came away and clothes that fit then that I packed no longer go over my bum so clearly the weight is piling on!!
Can't believe I'm 27 weeks today-that's 3rd trimester and onto the home stretch right???!
Hope everyone has had a good week and bumps and bodies are doing good and not causing too much aggro! xxx

OMC1 · 16/05/2015 15:53

Glad you're having a nice holiday, Fanby! I'm incredibly jealous!!

Yup, we're on the home stretch now!

Speaking of which, when are people thinking of packing their hospital bag? I know I'm still early to be thinking about it, but going to make sure I'm well prepared!

Joskar · 16/05/2015 20:53

Chance I suffer from spd too. I had it very bad last time and was in a wheelchair by 26 weeks. This time I've absolutely insisted on physio and had it from 7 weeks privately and 10 weeks nhs. I do week about. I am still in pain but still able to drive and get up and things so I can say that for me the physio is essential. If I miss a week I really know all about it. I've been doing lots of core strength exercises and I've been wearing a serola belt. Check out the Pelvic Partnership website for excellent advice. Insist on treatment. Hydrotherapy is often really good too. My spd never went away after my dd and it wasn't until I had physio when she was 12 weeks that I was able to walk properly again or pick her up. I really regret letting them fob me off.

fanby love Lanzarote. You lucky thing! We were there in October and had a brilliant time. We went to Cesar Manrique's house and that was a highlight of the trip. There's two to visit and they are both great. Like being in a Bond movie!

Isabeau1980 · 17/05/2015 12:35

Hi guys. Thanks for all your thoughts.

The week was long. We had the removal on Wednesday and the funeral on Thursday.

Spent around 5 hours in the hospital on Friday between GTT, Ultrasound, midwife appointment and consultant appointment but everything looks good. Peanut is now on team blue and is arond 3 pounds (1.3 kilos) already. I just have to wait for next Friday to see how the GTT went.

Dozygirl · 17/05/2015 13:18

Fanby glad you're having a good time time on holiday. 40 degrees is pretty hot though! I can't sit in that lol.

Omc I haven't thought about hospital nag yet apart from having a Google on what to include. Feels like it all becomes too real then.

Having been lucky up to now with my bladder I think I've now reached the stage where baby must be sitting on it so I feel like I constantly need a wee and as soon as I drink something it wants to come out. Best get keeping up with the pelvic floors so I don't lose all control lol.
