Hi all, still full of a cold but hopefully past the worse now.

I have an update on the SIL and MIL situation. My 2 best friends have very kindly offered to organise me a baby shower. So they set up an fb group and then I added who I wanted to invite and then they will kick me out so they can scheme... Fair enough right? Anyway I invited my SIL and MIL because it wouldn't have been worth the hassle to exclude them and my MIL HAS INVITED PEOPLE I DO NOT KNOW! One person I have never met, another who I have met once for 5 mins in the street and her best friend who I have met 4-5 times but I don't think she even likes me TBH. Nothing catty, just that we don't have anything to talk about. I am fuming! It just seems to be one thing after the other. They have trying to hijack this pregnancy and unborn baby. I know it isn't always about me, but surely.... When I am pregnant.... It is a little about me? My OH is going to speak to her about boundaries but I am worried I will lose my temper because if I do, I won't hold back and it will cause all sorts of strife that I can guarantee will make me into the bad guy! Argh! Sorry... Needed to rant!

OMC1 · 03/04/2015 09:34

Oh no, Happy, that's awful I can't believe she thinks it's okay to just invite random people without even asking you first! Angry Hopefully your OH can have a word sooner rather than later, and perhaps your friends could say they are being careful of numbers, so only people you invite are coming?

What a difficult situation, I feel so bad for you! You're completely right, it's your pregnancy and the one time you can be a bit "me, me, me" not "them, them, them"!!

I hope you shift the rest of your cold soon!

Lilydreams · 03/04/2015 10:58

Kimmi- I see what you mean about the cameras on OBEM I hope your right- I was beginning to think maybe its so knackering that no one actually manages the whole active birth thing!

Rascal- good advice, think I will start talking much more about our plans for our little boy in the hope they will get the hint especially as I have a feeling I will continue to pull my hair out as he gets older and MIL ignores my rules on parenting!

Rascal and Pinkie- I love love love pregnancy yoga! Yoga was never something I fancied as I was more into strenuous exercise- running, weights, pole, insanity- have a few friends who love it but never gave it a go until I'd spent first 4 months pregnant doing nothing as I felt so crappy and then knew I couldn't go back to my old regime after so long off so gave it a whirl! It's great, really relaxing and the breathing techniques are great I'm hoping they'll really help in labour- next week she's doing a longer relaxation section with visualisation that we can use in labour.

Happy- that's an absolute nightmare!! Between us we've had a right share of IL issues but I think you just won a prize! That's insane! I've stood by so far and not said much to the ILs as I've said to avoid a nasty fall out but I really think I'd have to say something if I was in your situation right now! That said your DH saying something first is probably a v. Good idea as if your anything like me you won't be able to hold your temper! I would have him say exactly why you don't want these people there- because you don't know them- rather than trying to excuse it by making some other excuse- it will only annoy you even more otherwise! Good luck and keep us posted on developments!

Frolicacid · 03/04/2015 11:20

Thanks dozy. I'm feeling better today. i would just like to have a few whole days in a row without vomittting.
I've started to look properly pregnant this week. It's much better than just looking fat or like I needed a big poo!! My back has got a lot thinner from all the sickness. I'm only 5 ft and my boobs and now belly look a bit silly really. People keep telling me I'll be huge by August as I'm all out front. Thanks for that!

happy, your mil is really cheeky!! Get DH or your friends to tell her you are limited on numbers and she can't just invite who she wants. Maybe sil could have a word?
We're spending tomorrow with mil and sil. I'm starting to dread it now.

Pregnacy yoga sounds fab lily. I used to do lots of yoga classes until moving house and changing jobs. Now I live in a rural area and the only yoga I can find without traveling for miles is a 2pm weekday old lady class! Maybe I'll join after he's born.

Happy good Friday everyone Easter Smile

Dozygirl · 03/04/2015 12:36

What's an active labour? Just that u stand up and keep moving?

Lilydreams · 03/04/2015 13:20

Yeh Dozy pretty much! Listening to your body, letting it work and making use of gravity!

www.bellybelly.com.au/birth/active-birth/

This explains it- although it doesn't really need explanation as quite simple! Just seems to make sense to me rather than laying there waiting for something to happen but I'm like that anyway- need to be doing something- feeling in control! Haha!

happygojo · 03/04/2015 15:59

My OH has had a word with his mum.... To be honest all could be solved by her speaking to me before she does/buys things. Then I can be diplomatic. They are around all day on Sunday so we shall see if there is awkwardness i guess.

Yeah I think most of active birthing is also about using gravity to help too. Makes sense that labour will be quicker and easier if Gravity is working in your favour. My yoga classes are giving me exercises to do in labour and nearer the time, me and my OH are going to a couples yoga birthing class. It is all part of my birth plan of 'keep calm and have a baby'

Dozygirl · 03/04/2015 17:37

Thanks lily that was a good read. I'll keep that in mind. That's why I want to go on a birthing suite because they tend to more facilities to enable an active birth. Just not sure how I'll cope with the pain yet!

I really need to start pregnancy yoga too. Aquanatal classes was just bobbing around in the water so found it a bit pointless whereas I think yoga will have a purpose. I find it difficult to go to things though because of shift work plus I need to find somewhere first.

Hi ladies thought id join you, due on 26th August with my second. How are you all doing? Anyone else have a very slim age gap between siblings?

MissTwister · 04/04/2015 18:50

Hello, not sure if I can join here as due on 30th July!!

happygojo · 04/04/2015 22:13

Welcome missy and misstwister we have a few end of July ladies on here so you are more than welcome xxx

Frolicacid · 04/04/2015 22:35

Welcome missy and misstwister.

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. All good here. Seeing lots of family and enjoying the spring weather that'd finally put in an appearance.

and I've not been sick today. Malteaster bunnies may be the magic cure I've been looking for Easter Smile

Equimum · 05/04/2015 10:41

Welcome Miss and Missy. Missy, this is also my second, but there will be about 2yrs8monthd between then. How small is your age gap going to be?

Frolic, I think you should stock up on Malteser bunnies, just in case. Better to be safe than sorry, eh?

I hope everyone has a lively Easter. We've got the in-laws arriving this afternoon.....with DSs Christmas presents?!?!. They'll only give presents when they actually see the recipient, and as they haven't seen DS for nearly 9 months, he might also finally get his birthday presents! I'm glad your DH had a word with your MIL Jo. I hope it helps and you don't end up in a situation like we are in. MIL buys DS expensive toys that age likes, but they rarely reflect his age or interests. She then gets really upset when he doesn't instantly fall in love with them. She gets even more upset when she sees him playing with present mg mum has bought him. No amount of explaining seems to persuade her that this is because my mum 1) takes an ongoing interest in him, so knows his likes, and 2) asks what we think he might like.

Missymum6 · 05/04/2015 16:11

Hi equimum my daughter will be almost 20 months Blush it was a shocker! I was told I couldn't have any!! Xx

karatekimmi · 05/04/2015 18:30

I'm just watching what to expect while you're expecting - it was out on my due date last time!! It's not very accurate but mildy entertaining!! The birthing scenes are interesting!! very clean babies!!

equimum it probably doesn't help that the gifts are 9 months out of date!!

I'm sorry you all have shitty in-laws, however it makes me appreciate my mildly annoying in-laws.

DS will be 3 years so not too small an age gap I would have liked smaller and it took us a year of trying to get pregnant

happy have you looked into hypnobirthing? we did it last time and it seems to sit nicely alongside yoga and active birthing. We had a waterbirth though and I am hoping for one again.

Welcome Miss and Missy

Dozygirl · 05/04/2015 18:59

Welcome missy and twister

frolic yay for malteaser bunnies Saving the day.

I've overdosed on easter Egg whilst finishing my essay which I'm pleased to say after 4 years from starting the module I have now finished! I'm so.chuffed. no more living with guilt and regret that I failed myself by not completing it.

Today is my only day off this easter weekend so been feeling sorry for myself. Back at it tomorrow As well. But thesilver lining is it got me out of gardening and decorating haha.

Frolicacid · 05/04/2015 20:18

Happy easter everyone!

Well done for finishing the essay dozy. Don't worry about working. We'll be enjoying the last months of mat leave next easter so no work at all!

I'm going to asda tomorrow in the hope there will be loads of discounted malteaster bunnies for me Easter Grin

I hope everyone's had a good day. We've spent it on the beach with the in law's. I can't believe how warm the sun was. At last! I have a pink face tonight.

Sorry for all of you still struggling with in law's. Mine were quite well behaved. Sil was full of 'helpful' advice about motherhood, but I think I managed to 'smile and nod' reasonably well. I nearly told her to fuck off when she mentioned for the 5th time how big I am for 20 weeks and how bit I'm going to get! I'm short and narrow. There is nowhere for the bump to go but out. I really didn't need her pointing it out to me every 5 mins.

Missymum6 · 06/04/2015 08:28

Lol frolic your not the only huge one, we can be huge together, I was never this big this early with my first... I'm still not convinced there isn't two and ones hiding (twins and triplets in oh's family) im also short and narrow so starting to resemble a ball Grin

HeffaLumpers · 06/04/2015 08:53

Hi everyone. I'm due on 14th August with my second. Missy dd is 20 months now so I'll have exactly 2 years between my two.

Missymum6 · 06/04/2015 09:06

Hi Heffa, welcome! Glad to hear I won't be the only one chasing a toddler while feeding a newborn! Just looking at tandem pushchairs... There's so many to choose from and some are bloody pricey!!

Redsparklyshoes · 06/04/2015 09:17

Hi everyone!
I'm 20 weeks 1 day due August 30th and can't believe how quickly it's gone! Don't get me wrong some weeks I've thought oh hurry up! Think you all know what I mean!
Nausea subsided but then reappeared and now I have what I can only describe as feeling weird! Not in pain but feel like if I blew out my mouth it would be fire! How odd! Just a bit restless and off chocolate which is defo not me!
A few weeks till my next scan but keeping it a surprise as it's our first!
Happy Easter fellow August due Mums!

Missymum6 · 06/04/2015 09:54

Welcome red, it's nice your keeping it a suprise my scans on the 15th and I'm hoping to find out what we are having. My partners on a course for work the day of my scan so I'm going to tell him baby had legs closed then suprise him face to face. That could backfire thou as with my first I was told 60 percent girl at 12 weeks and they couldn't see at 20 weeks! So she was kind of a suprise. Xx

Redsparklyshoes · 06/04/2015 11:33

Thank you!! Smile
Ah what a lovely idea!
I'm wondering if my nausea is either because of iron levels or read something about balance around this stage and that it might be that? Anyone have any idea? Managed 20 slow lengths in the pool so feeling good for that. I want to go back to my glowing stage haha!

Missymum6 · 06/04/2015 12:09

No idea, I was sick the whole way through with my first even while I had my c section and for 2 weeks after, my sickness stopped with this one about a week ago (fingers crossed it's not going to come back) but I have been drinking peppermint tea this time not sure if its related or not but someone suggested it and since trying it I've been ok, and not feeling that horrible sicky feeling. I think I missed the glow stage both times with mine, I turn into a gremlin! Wink

Frolicacid · 07/04/2015 07:00

Good morning! Back to work today. Yuck!
I hope everyone has had a nice bank holiday. We've had glorious weather and spent loads of time on the beach. Lovely.

I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling huge miss. I'm sure it's just going to get worse as well. I really don't think sil needed to keep pointing it out mind you. I'm seeing her again before the end of the week, so please let me know if you any ideas for clever come backs?

Welcome red. I've no idea about the sickness and iron thing. But I've been being sick all the way through so far, so you have my full sympathy. I hope you feel better soon Flowers
