My maternity exemption certificate from my last pregnancy runs out on Friday. I never used it! Must sort out my next one...

THEworrywart · 15/03/2015 17:27

My aunties and uncles have requested I send them a list of what I need so they can buy me pretty much everything - very nice of them!

One wants to buy the baby monitor, can anyone recommend a good one? I've been looking for ages and feel non the wiser :(

SpamAnderson · 15/03/2015 17:55

worry re baby monitors, don't go super cheap (ie £20 or less) as in my experience, they often have poor quality sound or suffer with a lot of interferance. I'm a worrier too so I have one of the sensor mats that go underneath the mattress as go off if baby doesn't move for more than 10-20 seconds. With dd1 I'd wake up in a panic that something had happened as she hadn't woken up for a little while, that gave me peace of mind. Tommee tippee make a nice one of those. I'm really tempted to get one of the video ones as my hearing isn't good so if baby is in it's cot and I'm downstairs, I may not hear baby and would be nice to keep having a peek without going upstairs and disturbing baby. My friend had one of the motorola video ones and loved it, she sold it recently and I missed it by seconds, grrr.
Oh I've heard a lot of bad things about the BT monitor. Apparently it connects to an app but is supposed to be terrible. Not a recommendation obviously but one to not buy and waste your money on :)

SpamAnderson · 15/03/2015 18:00

There are some mumsnet reviews here www.mumsnet.com/reviews/nursery/baby-monitors
Which? Have also done several reviews if you're a member, you'll be able to see those :)
Have a look on Argos too, I often do that just for the reviews as people will normally leave fairly decent reviews, same with Amazon :)

THEworrywart · 15/03/2015 18:01

spam Thank you, I've just been looking at the Motorola ones actually, They're on special offer on a few sites so I might go for one of them! Yeah, the BT ones look really gimmicky rather than practical. There's so many options I feel overwhelmed.

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 15/03/2015 18:01

DoctorDonna I had the quad test last time, as far as I know the results are comparable.
Worry we have a Motorola video monitor, found it invaluable in the night when he cries out as we can look to see if he's dropped straight back off or is standing up!

SpamAnderson · 15/03/2015 18:11

worry Argos have lots of Motorola on sale at the moment, they seem to be either brilliant or rubbish though so make sure you read the reviews well on them. The Motorola MBP41 Video Baby Monitor might be worth a look, 4.5 stars out of 62 reviews, on offer for £100 at the minute, might be a bit steep for the budget but that's the top end of the prices really :) The Motorola MBP36 Digital Video Baby Monitor has slightly better reviews at the same price :)
Tommee Tippee have an updated version of their sensor mat one too, it's the mat with the sound monitor too, no video on that one though. Again it's £100. www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1391086.htm

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 15/03/2015 18:14

Ours looks like the MBP36 that is on offer at Argos at the moment.

THEworrywart · 15/03/2015 18:30

Ah thank you! I'll give them a look now, my Aunty said I have a budget of £200 so one of them will be perfect. Thank you both for your help spam lovely

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 15/03/2015 18:41

We have an angel care one from DS with sensor mat, it was great I loved being able to glance over and check the 'ticker' (symbol for sensor mat) was ticking away in the night, especially when he was under the weather.

Toffeegirl39 · 15/03/2015 18:55

Hi all happy mothers day!
Just been to New look - lots of maternity basics like leggings and tops in the sale.
Feeling enormous at the moment - also struggling with bras. Anyone found a decent non wired one that holds you up properly?!

Snowflake15 · 15/03/2015 19:11

Toffee I'm going to have to get some new bras tomorrow after my scan! Hopefully going to have a look in primark and try them all on as I have no idea what size I am now!
My boobs and nipples are just soooo sore and painful todayBlush

Snowflake15 · 15/03/2015 19:12

Plus all of my old bras are more of the push up variety and I'm having to hold my boobs when walking so they don't fall out, quite embarrassing when going down the stairs at work/on the tube!

monkeymoonpig · 15/03/2015 19:20

We have a BT monitor (not video), always been good... once DC2 arrives we'll prob just use the one DS currently has (he'll be 3.5 by then so should be fine). Like it especially as it plays a light show on ceiling, has variety of lullabies that it plays and with thermometer so alarm goes off on handheld if too warm/cold in room

Cornberry · 15/03/2015 19:24

toffee I went to M&S to get refitted (already gone from 34b to 38c!!) and they brought me a few to try. Found some decent ones for £14 for a two-pack.

Toffeegirl39 · 15/03/2015 19:39

Thanks snowflake and cornberry - I take it you are abandoning underwired now? I must get measured too - feel like I've got no support !!

monkeymoonpig · 15/03/2015 19:46

Incase anyone is thinking of ordering off Kiddicare - 5% discount code (Kiddicare brand only and expires tomorrow)

The due in September crew head into the second trimester! :) (Thread 6)
Snowflake15 · 15/03/2015 19:57

toffee I'm thinking of sticking with underwire, I feel that gives me more support? I have a few of those stretchy mon underwired bras but couldn't wear them to work etc... I think I just need something with a bigger/more coverage cup so it's being held in better if that makes any senseConfused

Guavasforbreakfast · 15/03/2015 20:04

Oh, stabbing pains to the vagina. I have NOT missed you. Kind of hoped that having had a baby already I'd escape all the stretching pains down there Hmm

Toffeegirl39 · 15/03/2015 20:05

I've found the wire is starting to dig into the top of my bump though and is uncomfortable- I'm 16 weeks now

Snowflake15 · 15/03/2015 20:34

Ahh I'm only 12 and my wannabe bump is only a roll of fat right where my jeans sitSad

DoNotDenyMe · 15/03/2015 21:28

Welcome new ladies! Smile

I also recommend the Angelcare monitor. .. The sensor pad was great. No issues with it whatsoever.

DeladionInch · 15/03/2015 21:41

I'm the opposite, have a cheapie sound only monitor for ds. The fancy ones would just cause me to panic iyswim, especially as they can give false readings, and I'm a worrier!

Tiredstressed · 15/03/2015 21:49

Sound only monitors here too.

sauvblanc21 · 15/03/2015 21:53

Snow, the bras that Cornberry mentioned from M&S are v good. Unwired but supportive so you don't miss the wire, nice big cups to cover expanding boobs and v comfortable. My little Bs haven't gone up to C yet but bra fitting lady (she was brill) advised going up a rib size anyway as bump would start expanding soon. I'm 12 weeks too and I too have just a tub roll over jeans at the moment ;) (Although using a hairband on my jeans button to make them comfy!) Xx
