Hello All

Hope I am correct in beginning a thread for July 07. BFP today (23rd October) and EDD 2nd July 07.

By way of a brief introduction; live in the South West, work part-time, have DD aged 5 and DS who is almost 3. Have been incredibly lucky this time as made decision to try for third and hey presto seem to have achieved it on first attempt (much to DH disappointment if you know what I mean!!).

Look forward to 'meeting' you and sharing this amazing experience with you.

Welcome myfairone!
Also - good luck to anyone with scans this week.

Any pro-Londoners out there? We live really centrally in Borough and it's great for so many reasons - 10 mins walk to the river, 20 mins to Tate Modern, 4 parks within 30 mins walk (big fat parks too like St James's), great things to do, places to eat and see, loads of people come to visit, great transport, DH walks to work, I rarely use the car, most of our friends are here now, etc.
Downside - 3 flights of stairs (have I mentioned those?!) with shared garden at the bottom, and schools are either vastly expensive or really bad.

Scotland's great for so many reasons too (I'm Scottish and so is DH so of course we love Scotland and all things Scottish! except haggis sorry MS-ers!), but it would mean going back and it feels, well, like taking a step back if that makes sense? Chooster how did you decide to make the move after 10 years? DH has chance to work in either and I'll go back to work when kids are a bit older - never thought I'd ever write that!

Dilemma! Bet we end up flipping a coin.

Also - I appear to have a "thickening of the waist" as I read in a book. Not loving it. Anyone else's jeans feeling snug? I'm sure I didn't show until at least 4 months last time. Can't work out if my uterus is the size of an orange or a grapefruit - a grapefruit might have an impact on my jeans buttons, not sure that an orange should!

Chooster · 06/12/2006 08:38

Hi all

Justbeme - Its so bad when people dont react the way you expect when you tell them something! It kind of brings you down doesn't it. I remember MIL cried when DH told her we were engaged - and they weren't tears of joy! She is such a lovely person I still dont know why she reacted like that...

Sorry about the constipation guilia - c an't help with that one, but looks like you've got some good suggestions. I have hot water and lemon and I'm sure that helps everything on its way

3flights - It is a tough one... I'm still very pro-London and really miss it and my friends. I'm English and had never lived in Scotland before (DH is from Edinburgh) so it was a really hard choice. But, when I became PG we looked at the way we lived and so much would have had to change. We loved Bethnal Green but its just too busy and I always had a vision of my kids playing out in a back garden in the summer rather than having to go to a park. And to get a house that we liked / could afford and had a garden and good schools meant that we would have to move out of central London anyway which would have meant commutes to work and none of the great stuff on our door step. So we figured if we were going to move 20 miles, we may as well make it 300+ miles . Although I miss my friends a huge amount, I've made some great new pals up here, and besides I've slowly been seeing my friends get pregnant and start to move away from central London anyway. Sorry for waffling.... Either way its exciting and I'm sure you'll be happy wherever - just go with your gut feeling.

giulia68 · 06/12/2006 10:02

chooster, firststar, 3 flights and beartime, thanks for all your creative and helpful suggestions. i will try them all. the humiliating side effects of pregnancy eh?
3flights - i know someone else with a similar sounding '3 flight's issue and we do snigger about the fact that she talks about it all the time. i am a londoner and couldn't imagine being elsewhere though whenever we go outside london i think how amazing it would be... sometimes i can't work out what we are all doing here. it is SO expensive and you get SO little for your money in property terms - i feel very bad for young ( and not so young) public sector workers unable to buy any where near they work and very cross about it too. luckily i am not in that position any longer but even when i was starting out it seemed easier - lots of my friends ( and me) were lucky enough to buy one bed places in our mid twenties, and it is becoming harder and harder to do that. very unfair. off to drink some prune juice.

bubble78 · 06/12/2006 11:40

hi all just wanted some advice really im 7+3 today and i am getting so light headed all the time have to keep sitting down not really got ms but dont feel like food at all (which is very unlike me)

i dont remember feeling this dizzy when i was pg with ds..

is anyone else the same or is it something to worry about

Miaou · 06/12/2006 11:43

bubble we were talking about this just a couple of days ago - I go light-headed a lot too! Just normal really - I think it's to do with blood pressure and your body working so hard atm. Just get up slowly from sitting or lying down

Hey Bubble - I get light headed too - It can come on even if I'm just sitting down not doing anything. I didn't have this with previous PG's and I did worry a bit about it until I read some of the lovely ladies on here mention the same.

Hope you feel better soon.

LieselVonGiftwrapp · 06/12/2006 14:05

Is it high blood pressur eor low blood pressure that causes this?

thank heavens for you ladies on here

thats put my mind at rest
cheers

Miaou · 06/12/2006 17:46

Well I've got fairly low blood pressure (90/50) and tend to suffer with faintness even when not pg, so I guess it is low-pressure related. Hang on, will see if I can find some more info...

Miaou · 06/12/2006 17:50

Aha - information on dizziness here. Have you come across babycentre before? It is very good for information on pregnancy.

Also, for those who are interested in breastfeeding, kellymom.com is a fab site with loads of good information and much recommended by MNers.

typhoonsmum · 06/12/2006 19:04

bubble I felt like that yesterday. Very lightheaded and dizzy. It hasn't been too bad today. I was in the cinema and felt if I moved my head i would faint. (Not good whilst watching "Noddy saves Christmas")

I don't remember feeling this awful when I was pg with DD.

DP can't make it to my scan next week. Will have to go on my own.

Cakehead · 06/12/2006 19:14

3flights - you and me both. I didn't show until 4 and half months last time; today I'm not doing up the top of my extra-comfy cords. Am going to have to dig out some maternity stuff at the weekend - my waistline is certainly 'thickening'. Mind you, i read that it's all quicker to hang out second time around; your stomach muscles are already knackered so less to hold it in. Joy!

Told my boss yesterday and he visibly flinched when I said the words. I suppose i've only been back from maternity leave 9 months, but I think they were all expecting it to happen again, so I'm going for the 'sooner is better than later' approach. Plus I'm assuring them I'll stop at 2. DH is 43 at the moment and is already worrying about being an 'older dad' so I don't think I'll get a chance to get in number three. I mean, it's not like sneaking in a new pair of shoes, is it?!

littlepiggie · 06/12/2006 20:36

I have a book 'your pregnancy week by week' buy Lesley Regan. I have looked up a few things that have come up.

risk of mc-
6 weeks 15%
8 weeks 3%
12 weeks less than 1%

Movement- 1n the section 13-17 weeks 'Dispite all the activity, most first time mothers are not aware of fetal movements becouse the amniotic fluid acts as a cushion and the baby is still not large enough to stimulate the nerve endings in the wall of the uterus. Second time mothers who know what to expect report that they can feel "quickening" -fluttering sensations in there abdomaen, but definate fetal movement are not usually recognised untill about 18 or 20 weeks.

weight gain at 10 weeks is about 3 kg, made up from baby etc, increase in breast size, extra blood, and water retention. most cases of much thicker waists at this time is most likely to be bloating or just weight gain (to much, but as we all know very much needed stodge)
Most poeple start to 'show' around the begining of the second trimester.

can you not push for a scan sooner? that seems a long lime to weight. With ds i had a bleed at 61/2 weeks, on a saturday night, had scan on tuesday as it was bank holiday and gp was closed, but they try to do scans asap. I would phone tomorrow and try to give things a push.

I'm doing better clothes-wise this time cos I have two sizes up from after my last pregnancy so I am using those and still looking OK. But I started showing (when not tightly tucked in) about 7wks!

Cakehead - with you on the Dh being 43 thing - snap. I'm praying for twins so we get more in a bit quicker

Littlepiggie - thanks for looking up at that stuff - its really nice to know those percentages, as you tend to think anytime up till 12 wks is the same risk but I guess it gets better with time which is comforting. 3kg though? Most things I've read seem to say 3-4lb in the first trimester which is about 1.5-2kg but I guess that's not too much different. Since I'm almost overweight I am trying to limit the cheese and icecream and not put any on in 1st trimester, as last time I went wild with all these evil people telling me to eat for two. Succeeding so far!

Firststar - I hope you're OK. Try and take it easy and put your feet up. They didn't see anything with me until 7wks so that's probably the best time for a scan, as b4 that they might not see a heartbeat anyway.

JennStarOfWonder · 06/12/2006 22:34

Hope everything goes well for you firststar.

typhoonsmum · 07/12/2006 06:35

Take things easy firststar. It may be nothing. I know its hard but try and be postive. Just take things easy over the weekend.

Thinking of you

Gingerbics · 07/12/2006 07:02

Hi Firststar I'm new here. I'm due 16th july 07 and think I'm almost 8weeks PG now. Its been a really stressful few weeks. I had my 3rd (yes 3rd) scan yesterday as have had 3 lots of bleeding so far. The most recent was on Tuesday afternoon, it was the heaviest I'd had so far and I really thought that was the end of it and was in a right state. During the night I had quite bad pains too so that just reinforced my fears even more. However, went for a scan yesterday and there was a really strong heartbeat, we were so relieved, its only just sinking in. So please don't give up hope. The waiting room was full of women who were bleeding so it really is common. they couldnt explain the bleeding and the sonographer said she's even seen some women who have had really heavy bleeding with clots who have gone on to have a healthy pregnancy so I suppose we just never know. Got everything crossed for you as I truly know how you're feeling. In the meantime try (Iknow its not easy) to take it as easy as possible. Thinking of you x
Hi to everyone else too. I've been wanting to post for ages but didnt want to tempt fate due to all the bleeding I've had. Still, feeling positive now and look forward to chatting with you all over the next 7ish months.

giulia68 · 07/12/2006 08:14

firststar - i had 4 weeks of on-off bleeding with my DS, ( now running around with a football in front of me) - it was so frightening and i really feel for you. never any reason given, it is so common. hope you manage to cope with the anxiety, it is a difficult time and it does sound a long time to wait for a scan i agree. if you can manage to spend a bit of time lying down and resting - what i did - it might help you to relax a bit, i found it did.
gingerbics - welcome and i hope we hear more from you. sorry you have been through this difficult time, great you have a heartbeat. i know it is hard to think of anything else. take it easy both of you if you can!

Firststar, am keeping my fingers crossed for you....

I have a big day tomorrow, first scan and first appointment with my consultant. Had pre-eclampsia and IUGR in my last pregnancy and DS was delivered 11 weeks early. Trying to think of all the questions I want answered but baby brain is getting in the way - am hoping to leave with a full written care plan that I can show to my GP and midwife to make sure we get the monitoring spot on this time. Also keeping fingers crossed that scan will be OK and feeling rather nervous...
