Started having cramps today, and worried about m/c then suddenly thought being pregnant is like Snakes and Ladders! You keep going up the board, then land on a snake and go back down to the beginning again, then you start again. only difference is that everyone wins (unless something horrendous happens) so that's something positive
Thought I'd share something I found helpful too which is this website: www.blueribbonbaby.org - it's a diet to eat during pregnancy and basically a healthy diet apart from they stress protein is important to help prevent preeclampsia, and some other stuff too. The main way they help you eat the protein you need is through eating 2 eggs a day, 4 glasses of milk (which also provides calcium) and then 2 servings of lean meat or cheese or fish. I have been following it and feel so much better this pregnancy than last time, and haven't gained weight either!
Another thing I found helpful thru reading his book is that the baby gets nourishment thru what is in your circulation, therefore the thing people say about don't worry the baby will get the nutrients it needs from you isn't true. As it can only get what is in your circulation - i.e. what you have eaten that day, or calories that are burnt from your fat stores. So it is really important what you eat every day.
Another thing is that in wikipedia it says it is very important that you eat breakfast while pregnant for this reason, because otherwise the baby goes too long without food.
Anyway this really helped me. I don't mean to scare you, but want to help cos I am really glad found this stuff. but Tom Brewer who is dead now but was a doctor who did a lot of research into eclampsia, reckons that preeclampsia can be totally prevented thru good nutrition - especially protein. And if your protein intake is high but your calories low then you still won't get the protein you need cos your body will burn protein for energy leaving none for the baby, so calories are important too. Also he says that in some animals birth defects were totally prevented thru a good diet. Not saying that would happen but I'm sure they could be reduced.
Hope you don't mind me saying all that! Just an encouragement to eat well even if you feel bad.
