Hello All

Hope I am correct in beginning a thread for July 07. BFP today (23rd October) and EDD 2nd July 07.

By way of a brief introduction; live in the South West, work part-time, have DD aged 5 and DS who is almost 3. Have been incredibly lucky this time as made decision to try for third and hey presto seem to have achieved it on first attempt (much to DH disappointment if you know what I mean!!).

Look forward to 'meeting' you and sharing this amazing experience with you.

3flightsofstairs · 22/11/2006 20:35

Chooster, that's really rough. Hope this one goes OK. Trying really hard not to think that far ahead and failing miserably. Convinced today that I have no symptoms - but then just had salmon on toast as I couldn't face a chicken stirfry, so now I'm not sure. Never had salmon on toast before.

Fingers crossed that all of our little tadpoley prawns are strong and healthy.

Started having cramps today, and worried about m/c then suddenly thought being pregnant is like Snakes and Ladders! You keep going up the board, then land on a snake and go back down to the beginning again, then you start again. only difference is that everyone wins (unless something horrendous happens) so that's something positive

Thought I'd share something I found helpful too which is this website: www.blueribbonbaby.org - it's a diet to eat during pregnancy and basically a healthy diet apart from they stress protein is important to help prevent preeclampsia, and some other stuff too. The main way they help you eat the protein you need is through eating 2 eggs a day, 4 glasses of milk (which also provides calcium) and then 2 servings of lean meat or cheese or fish. I have been following it and feel so much better this pregnancy than last time, and haven't gained weight either!

Another thing I found helpful thru reading his book is that the baby gets nourishment thru what is in your circulation, therefore the thing people say about don't worry the baby will get the nutrients it needs from you isn't true. As it can only get what is in your circulation - i.e. what you have eaten that day, or calories that are burnt from your fat stores. So it is really important what you eat every day.

Another thing is that in wikipedia it says it is very important that you eat breakfast while pregnant for this reason, because otherwise the baby goes too long without food.

Anyway this really helped me. I don't mean to scare you, but want to help cos I am really glad found this stuff. but Tom Brewer who is dead now but was a doctor who did a lot of research into eclampsia, reckons that preeclampsia can be totally prevented thru good nutrition - especially protein. And if your protein intake is high but your calories low then you still won't get the protein you need cos your body will burn protein for energy leaving none for the baby, so calories are important too. Also he says that in some animals birth defects were totally prevented thru a good diet. Not saying that would happen but I'm sure they could be reduced.

Hope you don't mind me saying all that! Just an encouragement to eat well even if you feel bad.

3flightsofstairs · 22/11/2006 22:44

So my salmon on toast wasn't too bad after all! The supplementary bar of choc fudge and hot cross bun may not have helped (sounds like I should have had an egg instead) but thanks for posting that. Anything that helps must be a good thing in my book.

Does anyone know anything about execrising in preg? Managed to do nothing other than walk and eventually swim when I got too lardy to move throughout my last one. Quite determined (despite the choc bar!) not to waste the effort of losing the preg weight from last time by piling it all back on again!

Regarding exercise, i did so much last time I was pg (prob because i got married at 5 mnths) and didnt put THAT much weight on BUT also couldnt lose it either so all my friends who had piled it on also lost it fairly quickly while i just stayed the same for MONTHS grrrr. This time am doing bugger all - cant be arsed (and dont have to wear wedding dress - yay)!!

Chooster · 23/11/2006 12:48

Hi all,

Baysmu - quite similar to me, in that I was getting married when DS was 3 months old, so I had a real incentive not to gain too much. This time round I'm going to try to eat well (thanks for the info Beartime!) and keep up the exercise. As has already been said, you can continue any exercise you norally do, but dont strain yourself. I guess thats whay Paula Radcliffe was still running marathons at 5 months - Gosh!!!!

Kyte - I can't belive that you were told to be careful of weight when you are normal BMI range!

Licklerach - CVS is short for chorionic villus sampling which is similar to an amnio, except in an amnio they take a sample of the amniotic fluid and in CVS they take a sample of placenta. With CVS you can test for more, but some consider it more risky. Hopefully you won't have to worry about any of this though!

I've been for my first GP appt today and am due to get my first scan date at the Early Pregnancy Unit earlier today.

Hope everyone is enjoying a lovely Thursday! I'm working at home today - yippee...

Chooster · 23/11/2006 12:50

Ooops, sorry for all the errors in that post! Must preview them... Will be getting scan date later today, not earlier today

Hi everyone, my MS is gearing up so much more now. Could only lie on the bed last night eating crackers; woke up in the early hours really retching. Feel ghastly today. Am going to order some Preggy Pops and see how quickly I can get them. I want them NOW!

Chooster · 23/11/2006 13:26

Oh Cakehead - thats rotten - I really hope the preggy pops work? Have you got motion sickness bands? They helped me a bit last time...

Cakehead · 23/11/2006 13:28

Damn! Can't find Preggy Pops anywhere - all sold out! Maybe there's a rush on. Chooster, will pick up some bands on my way home. Thanks!

They're American lollypops and boiled sweets that certain companies sell over here (if you Google them, you'll see sellers). They're meant to help with sickness - they come in sour flavours, and ginger and mint, I think. Now don't all rush out and buy them until I've found mine!
