Hello All

Hope I am correct in beginning a thread for July 07. BFP today (23rd October) and EDD 2nd July 07.

By way of a brief introduction; live in the South West, work part-time, have DD aged 5 and DS who is almost 3. Have been incredibly lucky this time as made decision to try for third and hey presto seem to have achieved it on first attempt (much to DH disappointment if you know what I mean!!).

Look forward to 'meeting' you and sharing this amazing experience with you.

Sorry to all those with stinky farts, but it has really made me smile reading all your tales! Poor DH's eh?

I still have NO M/S at all - I even did another test I was so unsure about whether I was still PG or not - needless to say it was positive and my boobs are still a little achy... Am going to make a doctors appt this week and get the ball rolling... Yippeeee!! My DH is also getting pretty excited now - I think he was really nervous when I first told him (in my usual crap way) How did you all tell your DH's / DP's?

I've never seen a mw on my first appointment, only the practice nurse. I think that first appointment is just to confirm you ar pg, get your exemption form and book an appointment with the midwife team. Your experience sounds farily typical to me.

Afternoon - at home today feeling pretty grotty. Thanks for the yakult tip - I'm going to try those today.

Kyte - sounds like we had pretty similar mw experiences unfortunately. Like you I am very glad to have the wonderous resource of Mumsnetters.

The one hilarious thing for me is that no one has actually verified that I'm pg. Part of me thinks I could be having phantom pg (with authentic sickness) and that they'll realise whenever I go for my scan!

Seriously though, put the mw to the back of your mind, Kyte. I think the mw system is really stretched and sometimes in the rush us excited firsttimers get a bit bruised... and so that's where MN comes in.

Hope everyone's doing ok.

Hope every ones feelin ok - I just read out the bits to my DP about the stinky gas - it made him laugh!! saying that, my problem seems to be very large build up of gas and massive burps! i sound like Jane off of Big Brother! (i keep them quiet when im out though lol!)
Ive already recd my Exemption card for NHS treatment - came thru in about 1 week from filling in the form.
and I just had a call from my local hospital saying that they will take over from St Marys in Paddington (where ive been looked after by the recurrent mc clinic) - so i dont have to travel up to london again !! yipee Got a 10 week scan on 1/12 (already had one at 6.5 weeks and saw a heartbeat - so hopes all well).
So far havent heard from any Midwifes - just saw local Dr to tell him i was PG - he didnt take blood pressure or anything

fido · 20/11/2006 17:02

i've had the burps too! dont remember having them previously, it's a relief to know it's not just me.

mrspf · 20/11/2006 17:07

I would agree with Cyee that the midwifes are pretty stretched too, but as the pregnancy progresses (and especially after giving birth) the support they provided me when I had my DD was great- often visiting every day. I think they focus the support when/where it's needed. Last time round I didn't have a booking in appointment, and the first checkup I had was at the 12 week scan. So I was surprised to get a call this time round.

Hello there folks and welcome all new people.

Just hosted crusiers and crawlers this afternoon and only 3 people turned up. Nobody ate any biscuits and I've just polished the lot off! Am absolutely exhausted now.

My first midwife appt wasn't my booking. She just ran through what I wasn't allowed to eat and tested my urine. She forgot to take my bp because she was busy nattering about how it was only 10 months since she saw me last. Last time around I got 'lost' in the system and had to chase my booking appointment and my exemption card. In the end I got booked in the hospital rather than by my community midwife because it was too late to organise it before my scan. I felt awful ringing the surgery all the time to get fobbed off. I had no idea what to expect so didn't push anything. By the time I actually had the in-depth discussion with the midwife, I was already 3 months pregnant. I felt during the most important part of the pregnancy (to a first timer) when you have the most questions and worries, I was left high and dry and completely ignored. I was quite bitter about it for quite a while and really disliked my midwife at first. After a bit I relaxed and realised it wasn't personal and they are all over worked. I got on really well with her after that and am glad I have her again this time.

With regards to exemption certificates, as long as you have signed the form and it has been sent off, then there is a bit on the back of the form to say that the pharmacy hasn't seen proof of exemption. They can't insist on seeing it! On the other hand, if you haven't got one or sent off the form, then the prescription pricing agency DO CHECK. You shouldn't assume you are exempt and the surgery have sent off the form.

earlyriser · 20/11/2006 18:04

Hello all new folks, hope all is going well and none feeling too awful. with my first pregnancy i fully expected to go for a scan and for there to be nothing there. i'd only done a home test, got a faint line then nothing to confirm i was actually pg til the scan. this time i took a sample to the gp after doing a +ve home test and he said that the home kits were just as accurate as the lab ones. he was really surprised to hear that you can get ones that you use 4 days BEFORE period is due. Don't think he'd heard of them!

Cakehead · 20/11/2006 19:06

I've got my scan on 14th December at 9.00am, just three hours before my Christmas lunch at work. Am hoping I can break the news to my colleauges over the turkey. And then my actually booking in at the hospital is the following week, which seems a bit topsy turvy but there you go.

I've thought about it. I'm going to see the doctor on my day off. I was going to leave it but I'd prefer to find out sooner than later. So if everything is going to plan I'll see them on Thursday. Last time I went to the doctors I started to bleed the next day.

dorisofdevon · 20/11/2006 20:11

Hi too you all LOL at Kyte , really feeling for your poor parishioners (esp if your bowels are anything like mine (maybe tmi??)).

Had first episode of m/s this morning ah well here we go at least it feels real. Last time spent weeks feeling ill trying not to throw up, this time remembered alot easier to get it over and done with (and I feel well enough afterwards to have brekkie )(maybe tmi again sorry)

Found out why my sis was so confident i was with child, apparently dh dropped it into conversation then just carried on, he doesn't remember ?!? but she then just kept dropping hints for confirmation bless she must have been beside herself (am very close to both my sis's)

Told my boss at work today thought that if the m/s has started then need to give her some forwarning am on leave this week so at least can have a rest

Also felt I ought to tell her as am beginning to look huge this is really worring me we have twins in our family (2 of my cousins have already had twins ) and If it's not that why am I sooo big can only be 6weeks (well 6 +4 to be precise) any ideas ??? I plan to go to Dr's this week to get refered maybe mw has some ideas

Sorry for the novel loads to say (well what's new!!)

dorisofdevon · 20/11/2006 20:12

ps good luck tm

dorisofdevon · 20/11/2006 20:16

Chooster forgot to add told dh the same way both times ......shoved the wee stick in his face ( not literally) and said does this say what i think it says first time he was in bed just waking up, second time eating breakfast

note to self must learn to be more elegant and ladylike and no more wee sticks!!!!

beartime · 20/11/2006 20:34

LOL Doris - I did the same thing. put peestick in front of DH and said 'Look' - then he goes to hold it and says, 'err... have you peed on this?'

Kyte - yes I guess you might have another proper booking in appt with Midwife. Apparently at our surgery they have a first appt with doc who probably confirms test, goes over folic acid etc. then books you in with midwife but they don't bother if you don't do that one and since i'd talked to doc on phone about bfing and pregnancy he said don't worry just go straight to MW.

beartime · 20/11/2006 20:36

Oh, I don't know if you've already had this conversation, but where are the best maternity clothes to be got (I mean ones that work well, look good and aren't too expensive). I had a terrible time last pregnancy. In the end the best thing was when i got a friend in USA to order some stuff from Old Navy and ship it to me, so much nicer and well made and comfy - and well priced!

Mumpbump · 20/11/2006 20:50

Next have some quite nice stuff; Blooming Marvellous were alright, but expensive and some H&M stores have maternity wear which is quite cheap and looks alright. Depends what you're looking for, I guess.
