With bump comments, I do wonder if it's because most images people see of pregnant women in the media are of "heaving pregnant" women, ie 8 months plus, so I think lots of people don't really know what to expect! I don't mind it too much, though I'm bemused by people trying to guess the sex by looking at my bump.

RL I'm off on maternity leave in two and a half weeks and if cannot wait! Bit concerned that my replacement hasn't been found yet but just telling myself I need to let go and that it's not my problem.

Lauren those names are very lovely - Erin is fantastic.

Skyra Freya is a great name - I know a couple of Freya's and they are wonderful!

34 weeks today Shock

The bump comment I really hate is 'are you sure that's only one in there?'
NO no I have a fucking million tiny babies in there that are going to come out like spiders and eat your face!
Also got told I look like I am going to explode lmfao WTF!!

TinyTear · 25/02/2015 08:54

you know you are hevily pregnant when you notice a drip of yogurt on the floor and remove the slipper, wipe it with your sock, and put the slipper back on, to avoid bending down or getting down on your knees
Discuss

(or am I just a slob?) Grin
It was a tiny drip, honest!

skyra13 · 25/02/2015 09:07

Tiny I just avoid bending down at all now I leave anything for my husband when he gets home lol!

I now have a good waddle on too if anyone knows the Duck song there is a lyric in it saying an he waddled away....My husband now sings and she waddled away to me now :(

RL20 · 25/02/2015 09:14

Banana - that's how I feel, as if I'm going to miss something!?
Hope your 32 week appointment goes well.

Skyra - Love the initials FAB! Grin

Firaffe - Hope you had a lovely babymoon!

Misty - Good comeback ha ha! That's something I would say.

Brixton - That's one I've not had actually! Gender guessing. Although that's probably because they jump to the "do you know what your having?" first! I actually might say next time, "Have a guess!". That should be amusing ha ha.
Yes I've also been worrying about my replacement, or non-replacement, as my duty manager yesterday said in conversation, "You've still got around 2,3 weeks left yet haven't you." He was a bit shocked when I said, "Erm no this is my last week!". To which he replied, so you're not going to be here next week?! Oh dear.

Squatting - Yes some of the comments do sound horrible especially when they're wrote down on here, they look even more shocking!

Tiny - Ha ha! Totally get that. I've been doing the same. I spilled some drink on the kitchen floor the other day and just chucked a tea towel on it and wiped it with my foot Blush although I still had to pick the tea towel up so not a massive winner, ha.

TheBooMonster · 25/02/2015 09:16

Rofl tiny I've started using DD to deal with things on the floor, have turned dealing with spills and dropped pens etc into a game :p

Joints were awful last night, also woke up about 7 times to pee then drink >.< exhausted isn't even the word. Had been planing to go to Tumble Tots with DD and PiL today so I could investigate Sainsbury's but I'm not sure I have the energy...

Everyone has something to say about bumps, I generally get some sort of bump observation before I get a hello... Apart from from my neighbour who doesn't seem to have noticed that I'm pregnant... It worry me less this time than it did last time, as I was teeny tiny last time and it made me panic every time someone mentioned me being small. Though I've noticed there has been far less bump groping this time round, not sure if I just look angrier and less approachable?

MoominMama22 · 25/02/2015 09:17

LOLZ tiny!!
At antenatal the subject of cleaning came up as they have all been furiously cleaning and tidying. I had to admit things only get cleaned if they are waist height . I also told them that if I drop a sock on the way to the washing machine there is no going back. I think they all think I'm a complete slob! Especially as they are all so much further on.
There is a lonely dirty sock in the hallway that as a matter of principle I've not picked up. Its been there 2 days.

How long do you think it will stay there?

skyra13 · 25/02/2015 09:18

RL - I love FAB to but DH does sing the Thunderbirds theme at me because of it!
Can you not pick the tea towel up with your toes? One of the new skills I have learnt being pregnant and pick pens up and other things, then just bring my leg up much easier then bending down!

MoominMama22 · 25/02/2015 09:19
  • and by matter of principle I mean when I dropped it from the pile I asked DH to fetch it.
TinyTear · 25/02/2015 09:29

moomin until the birth??

RL20 · 25/02/2015 09:30

Skyra - Ha ha, I hadn't thought of trying that! I have got into the habit of when I'm in the bath, if I need more hot water in it, I turn the tap on and off with my toes! To save my stretching forward. Pre-bump I used to open the Kitchen door with my foot by lifting my leg up if I had a handful of dirty plates! Although I haven't tried it for a long time and am probably best not to! Grin I must add that the handle is just a standard up and down one and not a doorknob, now that would be like trying to do a rubix cube with my toes!Shock

Moomin - Poor lonely dirty sock! Although I know what you mean, there was once a towel left on the living room floor for a good couple of days, until I just couldn't bare it anymore and ended up picking it up, lol.

My cars in for it's MOT today, which means I'll be car-less for a few hours Confused I wanted to nip in to town today but as the MOT is half way through the day and I have work later on, I won't have time to go after and I definitely can't be bothered to go beforehand! I suppose it's saved me some money by not going into town, but it could turn into a dangerous cake-making day Confused I have the urge to make some fairy cakes with melted Lindor white chocolate on top...

Wineandchoccy · 25/02/2015 09:32

Comments about bump sizes are both annoying and hilarious at the same time because in the space of 10 minutes I can have 'oh what a perfect bump' to 'wow your huge, how many are you having' people don't seem to engage their brains when around a pregnant woman.

How long is everyone's DH/DP's having off after the birth?

My DH already had 2 weeks annual leave booked in May from before we knew I was expecting + 2 weeks paternity leave so 4 weeks off in total which will either be lovely or he may drive me slightly mad. I'm hoping he will sort visitors and cleaning whilst I get to grips with breast feeding.

skyra that's my technique - any clothes item/tea towel etc that gets dropped gets picked up and flicked up to my hands by my toes. I hate it when whatever I've dropped requires me to actually bend down to get it.

Appointment this morning was good. Blood pressure, urine all good and baby appears to have turned and is now head down Grin Although I'm not entirely convinced he will stay that way as he seems to flip around most days. I'm now measuring 30cm so two weeks behind, having gone from two weeks ahead at one point, but I'm not worried as there seems to be so much room for ambiguity in measurements. I'm already booked in for a growth scan at 36 weeks owing to my thyroid so I'm sure any cause for concern re growth or positioning will be picked up then.

Does anyone know whether you're meant to stop doing forward inversions etc if baby is now head down? I was worried about him staying breech so have been hanging myself off the sofa most days - will carrying on encourage him to stay the right way up or give him the chance to flip back the other way? Confused

BananaToast · 25/02/2015 09:37

Cross posted - Wine DH is taking two weeks off as he wants to save annual leave for later in the year. I think that will suit me nicely as I get to have him around in shorter chunks. I think it will be nice for him to have time at home with us at different stages too, rather than all in the newborn stage where he can't do as much with the baby.

skyra13 · 25/02/2015 09:38

My DH is a secondary school teacher and lucky that bump is due in the Easter holiday break If she comes on time!! He has booked 2 weeks off after that, please dear lord she comes in time!! lol

Would be nice to have him at home with us for 3 to 4 weeks.

RL20 · 25/02/2015 09:46

Wine my partner currently works for an agency (which he always does over the Winter period) so as far as we know we don't think he'll be entitled to any holiday and we can't really afford for him to have lots of time off and will perhaps just take a few days off, which at the minute I'm fine with. I think 2 weeks together constantly would probably drive me insane, and possibly him too, and we would constantly be thinking about the money were losing out on by him not being at work. I think if he was in another job he would take a week or so off, but it's just not possible for us. And it's just the daytime anyway, so he will be here in the evenings and weekends so I'm sure we'll be fine

PenguinPoser · 25/02/2015 09:50

cinnamon hope your household is ok with minimal vomiting! What a horrible thing to deal with especially at the moment!
mswibble definitely have some antacids before bed and keep some by the bed. I find I often need one when I lie down.

RL I know what you mean about work. I think I will miss the banter and social side of things, and I am very used to having structure and routine to my day which is going to totally change. It's also tinged with sadness as tomorrow is my last day at my actual workplace as well, although they are employing me until end of maternity leave and paying my leave I am going back to the same job but in a different place. So it will be proper goodbyes which I hate as well.

Skyra I like the same Freya too. It is on my list - though DH isn't as keen. We haven't agreed on a girls name yet, found boys easier!

Lol Tiny! Totally understand where you're coming from, bending down is bad! I really want to tidy the house but it seems like such a mission at the moment.

Wine my DH has 2 weeks paternity leave so will take that (hopefully starting the day of my induction) and probably save the rest of his annual leave for later in the year. Is anyone doing shared parental leave? It comes in for babies due after 5th April I think. I not sure we would have anyway (but couldn't as I'm due the 3rd!!) but would have potentially worked well financially if it had been an option.

Not sure Banana my baby has been head down since 28 weeks and all midwife suggested was bouncing on gym ball and not lounging around too much to prevent moving (although the not lounging bit is not going well!)

Took 2 attempts to get my blood this morning ouch! Of my cholestasis bloods last week one had gone up and one had come down so not sure what that means overall, will see what today's are and what consultant says tomorrow. Off to see midwife in half an hour although not sure there's much point given all my other appts!

ChickenMe · 25/02/2015 09:52

My OH has done the same as yours wine. It's a good amount of time, esp if you end up having a section. How are people's DHs with the idea of breastfeeding?
I refuse to bend over as=bum cramps.
Sorry to those who had a shit night. Acid is vile. I feel like I must have corroded inside with the amount im producing!
As for bump comments, just shows you how stupid people can be. Common sense is not common to everyone! I certainly agree that pregnancy can turn commentators into fools. It started off with "OMG you can't eat prawns" now it's "if you breastfeed are you allowed to eat an Easter egg?" Wtf?! Lol!!! How the hell did the human race survive so long without these gems of advice?!?

BrixtonBunny · 25/02/2015 09:53

Wine mine is taking two weeks paternity leave plus two weeks annual leave, I can't wait - we don't seem to annoy one other so I think we'll enjoy having a month getting used to being a family.

MoominMama22 · 25/02/2015 09:54

DH is taking a week off completely and then for the next week he will be semi back to work , shorter days and definitely home for lunch which he often is able to do anyway which is great.
Some potential visitors have said they'll wait til he is back at work but then I won't have someone to tactfully get them to leave?!

rl I've always done the bath taps with my toes anyway! No need for unesseary sit ups.

tiny yes, we might have to celebrate birthdays for the lonely sock. I've just remembered I've got a friend coming to stay tonight. I will just tell her the sock is an art installation.

Hidingthefear · 25/02/2015 09:55

The bump comments don't really bother me so much, i think i've just tuned them out.
1 of the girls at work always say how "neat" my bump is, and how lucky i am (actually not luck, im consciously trying to eat healthy and walk the dog more), and then this morning she said my bump looks big and 20 mins ago told me how tidy it was. so she changes her mind constantly lol she's now pregnant (about 8/9 weeks apparently) and says she's already got a bump. I feel a bit bad, coz the others in my office say she's only making a fuss because shes "jealous" of my bump which isn't a nice thing to say about someones pregnancy. she does keep telling people different things though and seems to make everything dramatic. but that's not my problem. i'm just glad i've only got 4 weeks left in work, i keep getting asked about dates and scans and stuff because they're trying to figure out if she's telling fibs.

I didn't think much about initials (MPGT) until FIL said that baby's initials were MPG (and being a mechanic started calling bump miles per gallon -surname- ) and then all I could think of was PGTips
so i've swapped his middle names so now he'll be MGPT instead lol

mswibble · 25/02/2015 09:56

I love the name Hannah, its a very sturdy, lovely name and will suit at any age I think. As I'm on team blue I can share the names I had on my pink list - with the OH being Irish I liked Orla, Aiofe and Nuala, other names included Lena, Camille (heavily influenced by The Returned there!), Leila and in complete contrast, Elizabeth!

We still haven't fully decided on a boys name but there is one that is pretty much favourite. He will be the third one in the family, OH being the second so its a nice nod to his family, and its a very Irish name, which may or may not work well in Greater Manchester. Thankfully its not one of those mad ones where you struggle to pronounce it!

Well I feel suprisingly chipper this morning after being up until gone 1.30am with bile rising up my throat, I will most likely crash and burn by 2pm though, I'll be sat here with matchsticks holding up my eyelids! Bleurgh! I'm definitely going to pick up something today in Boots, cant be going through that again. Firaffe you have my sympathy! It wasn't the retching or coughing that did it, it was the taste! Utter evil!

I've only had one person comment on my bump and she said that I looked small (though I had my midwife appt the day before and bump was a little big if anything) so I didn't take much notice to be honest. (plus judging by comments on here I seem to have put on the most amount of weight - not even going to reveal it as I'm a little Blush about it, so I'm definitely not small, in any way!) I definitely agree that for some people its just a conversation starter or throwaway comment.

I am literally counting down the days until mat leave. Cannot wait. Though I'm finding clearing my inbox and sorting my filing out a little of a ball ache. Just 16 days in work left - hurrah!

Wineandchoccy · 25/02/2015 09:56

My DH is really excited about being there at the early stage which is lovely but I don't think he realises newborns don't do an awful lot except sleep and feed. I have subtlety tried to say would he best trying to defer some leave for a couple of months but he said he would rather be with us so if you don't hear from after the end of April I have been done for murder Grin

My Poang chair from Ikea is brilliant I couldn't get comfy during the night but managed to rock myself to sleep in the chair.
