penguin my SnuzPod apparently isnt coming into the warehouse til Thursday, to be out for delivery Friday but "may take an extra day" due to my location . grrump. So no exact day never mind timeslot . Had it ordered for ages... From little green sheep, is that where you ordered yours from out of noseyness?

All this talk of nurseries is making me panic a bit. Still loads to do in mine! And no money to pay someone to do it! And husband doesn't sense any urgency...

PenguinPoser · 23/02/2015 20:22

Yes moomin I ordered from little green sheep too. Having emailed them they said if I phone in the morning they might be able to give me more of an approximate time or a tracking number. It's annoying waiting for deliveries if they can't say when it's coming! Rescheduled my travel system to come from mamas and papas next week and the delivery slot is currently Monday-Wednesday Hmm best not make any plans!

Lauren82000 · 23/02/2015 20:22

DH took a break from his playing. Funeral is next week. Just got to think of what we are going to tell DD about where we have gone. Sad

brummagem · 23/02/2015 20:25

I'm in the dribbling club. It seems to be worse if fall asleep on sofa for a nap seem to be ok after a full night asleep in bed. My drool wakes me up from my naps sometimes. Blush I think my new name should be Windy Miller all I seem to do is burp or fart! I'm a one woman orchestral wind section at the moment. Grin

I think I missed all the sling chat a few threads ago what was considered a good choice?

Thanks for posting about WC jab. I've totally forgotten to book mine!

Bump is currently practicing his Bruce Lee moves. Probably something to do with the extra hot jerk chicken with rice and peas followed by a galaxy bar. Also enjoying a Becks Blue shandy. Thugz lyf here in Birmingham Grin

mswibble · 23/02/2015 20:37

sob I would kill for a Galaxy bar Sad. I've not had any news following Fridays GTT but I'm expecting a positive result, hence my ban on chocolate already. How are those of you who were diagnosed with GD earlier on finding it all?

Has anyone else got a crib rather than a Moses basket? I'm not sure whether I was expecting some massive sprung marshmallow but the crib mattresses all seem rubbish, just a few cm thick! Seems bizarre to have such little support or padding!

If there are any of you wanting to use reusable nappies keep an eye out in your local Tescos. According to the FB groups there are some ridiculous bargains to be had. Packs of TotsBots Bamboozles reduced to £3odd, down from £64 in some cases. I've checked my local stores - Salford and Norwich, but you may strike lucky! All I've found in mine was a 5 pack of plastic pants for £1.54! No thank you!

RL20 · 23/02/2015 20:39

I haven't seen any new nursery photos as I'm using the app but Boo I love cute owl-related things! Owl print seems to be popular at the minute. So cute Grin Wonder if I'll come across any baby boy clothes with that print Grin

Smog I'm also a lot hungrier now and baby is on the move a lot of the time.
I'm not complaining though!
I've already had a Turkish Delight, 2 packs of crisps and a fruit bar (similar to the Go Ahead ones) since dinner!! Omg that doesn't sound good reading it back Blush
I'm currently feeling pushing near my left hip and to the right of my belly button at the same time, so not a clue as to how he might be laying! I'm pretty sure he's sideways a lot of the time.

Ok I'm feeling a bit better about the Whooping Cough jab now, thanks Ladies. I just need to get it over and done with don't I and stop fretting!

Brummagem I'm in the burping club too! Seem to burp a lot more now than I did before, I suppose also the farting bit too! Blush

On the bra front, I was a 34B/C before (I can't remember exactly it seems so long ago!) and my mum bought me some really comfortable bras from Asda a couple of months ago which feel a bit spongy, but are underwired (I haven't worn anything different). I chose them in a size 36D which seem to fit just fine. Although just this morning when I was doing my bra up, I thought to myself maybe I need a... 38?!?! Shock

Also, does anyone watch Eastenders on here? I know it's all rubbish but did anyone see the episode last week where Kim gave birth, with supposedly still around 2 months to go? I felt so emotional watching it, one because of hormones and two probably because were all at similar stages to her!

mswibble · 23/02/2015 20:43

'Horwich' not Norwich. That would be a hell of a drive just to check for bargain nappies!

RL20 · 23/02/2015 20:54

Also, I know this might be a bit conflicting as there are some second and third timers on here which may have perhaps done things differently, but I'll feel better if I do share this with all of you.

I noticed on my Facebook a few weeks ago that a friend had shared something from a Facebook page called Justice For Preston. It was a post regarding the dangers of cot bumpers (which honestly I had no clue what they even were).
I couldn't remember who shared the post but luckily it popped up again on my news feed the other day because she'd shared something else from there so I've liked the page this time to get updates from it.
In short it's about a little boy who was only 9 months old and sadly passed away from getting tangled in a cot bumper that even though had been tied correctly, had come off the ties.

Like I said cot bumpers are not a thing I know much about it but I'm more than willing to give them a miss after reading through the little boy's mum's page.

Anyway sorry to interrupt through conversations but thought I'd better post it now incase I forget!
I'd much rather post it on here and have no one take any interest than to not post it at all! If you do happen to search for the page I think it's just called Justice For Preston so should be pretty easy to find.

Lauren82000 · 23/02/2015 20:58

Crib mattresses do seem very thin I remember that from DD. I need a new one for this one as the one my sister used in our family heirloom crib has been stored for about 2&1/2 years so bit dodgy. I can't remember the size of the crib though so have to wait till my mum digs it back out.

I also thought the cotbed mattress was pretty thin and very firm not comfy at all. It's little wonder DD prefers to sleep in our bed. Wink

TheBooMonster · 23/02/2015 21:07

aye, our crib mattresses like a biscuit, we've got proper chunky mattresses for the cot and combed though.

rl I've been seeing stuff around about bumpers being not so good, I was looking at getting or making some of the bumper things that just go round a bar or two, think they're called bumpees or something like that.

daholster · 23/02/2015 21:18

Bumpers are pretty but I don't think required. Dd has only ever got stuck in the bars twice. Ever. And I'd rather her leg was through and she cried than she suffocated or strangled quietly. Stark but true.

We forked out for an expensive mattress for the cot bed, its at least 6 inches thick and slightly sprung, hypoallergenic. Can't remember the actual brand but bought it via M&P.

We have a swinging crib. Again forked out for an expensive mattress for that too. It's from John Lewis, it is sloped so slightly head up with a dip where their head goes so they can't slide to the bottom. She seemed very comfy in it and for her weight I was happy that it was easily thick enough.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 23/02/2015 21:36

with my boys I avoided all the cot-bumper/bashed issues by using a travel cot (with decent mattress)

can't bash on a mesh side!

This one's got a proper wooden cot though I won't be buying cot pillows and duvets and bumpers - safer to just use a sheet on the mattress and a sleeping bag which is what I used for the boys.

Don't leave soft toys in the cot with them either!

AnniaFausta · 23/02/2015 21:43

The NHS guidelines now recommend not putting cot bumpers in at all for babies, actually - so why they're being sold is a mild mystery, but there we are. See www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/what-you-need-for-baby.aspx#bedding

cinnamongreyhound · 23/02/2015 21:49

Lots of things are sold that aren't recommended, like cot duvets, but I suppose you can have them later, too much is about making money. I had bumpers for both my boys but don't have it anymore and it's not something I want to spend my money on. Ds1 got his very chubby thigh stuck in the cot and cried a lot :(

My mattress is spring but much thinner than normal mattresses but then they are much lighter than us so don't really need that thickness I guess.

I have a stretch wrap Brummagem, I had a Kari me sling with ds2 and got a non branded one from Victoria sling lady this time for £14.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 23/02/2015 21:51

same reason people keep buying beaded ribbon dummy clips , "blinged" dummies etc..

some people prefer looking cute over safety.
and others just aren't aware.

TheBooMonster · 23/02/2015 21:56

Won't bother with bumpers then!

The lovely tesco delivery man brought me my tena lady pads! (And every single other thing we ordered, no substitutions Shock ) dances round without having a terrible accident do I need a pelvic floor to push the baby out? Because mine packed it's bags, it's gone...

TheBooMonster · 23/02/2015 21:58

DD uses her cot duvet as a summer duvet because it's like 1 or 2 tog and she's a serious hot bod! We used sleep bags till she was 18 months, almost 2 years though. I've never understood dummy clips...

Envy just thrown up everything I ate for dinner 4.5hrs ago! How can it all still be there? Fine until I laid down then felt really sick, Dh duggested I get up to take my mind off it and 10mins later was pretty violently sick :( pregnancy sucks, night all!

mswibble · 23/02/2015 23:39

daholster thanks for the JL tip, will investigate their mattresses for cribs.

Is anyone else dreading their MIL coming to stay after giving birth? I've been informed that she will be coming for a week after the baby is born, AND staying in our tiny 2 bed house. Hmmmph. To say I'm fucked off is a major understatement. I do not do well with people in my space anyway never mind having another person in the house when we're trying to get to grips with everything. At risk of sounding like an utter cowbag I don't want her chiming in with her suggestions on how she did it. She didn't breastfeed and she doesn't see why I'm bothering with the reusable nappies so she's not going to be helpful on those counts. Its going to be another person to clean up after (her cleanliness standards do not even come close to mine, i cant get a mug or glass out of her cupboards without having to rewash it) and I just know that my OH, aka golden boy, will spend the week making sure she is top priority and wants for nothing. Gah. It is not going to happen. A weekend I can cope with, especially if she stays at one of three budget hotels within 5mins of us but not a week and not staying on our sofa. No. Hmm my mum and dad live 20mins down the road whereas MIL is in Ireland but even my Mum knows not to smother us and definitely wouldn't dream of imposing. Am I being a spoilt witch? Blush

MoominMama22 · 23/02/2015 23:51

cinnamon do you feel better for getting it out at least. Fact it was all still there meant it probably better out than in. I sympathise tho, it does suck!

wibble no you are not a spoilt witch. A week is too long.( 2 hours might well be too long. ) I think your right in saying it just won't happen. Politely give her the details of local hotels, maybe suggest she can stay one night but make it clear that won't be ideal. If your parents are close any chance she could stay with them?

AnniaFausta · 24/02/2015 07:05

cinnamon, you poor thing! Hope you had a good night's sleep after that.

I woke up at about quarter to two with cramp in my left calf and in my right knee... that was a new one. I had to heat up the wheatbag to calm the knee down enough to get back to sleep.

mswibble, you've been 'informed'? I don't think so! Be clear that you can't cope with her in the house what with getting used to the newborn, but suggest one of the hotels. If she wants to stay a week, fine - but make it clear she'll need to entertain herself for a lot of it, because you and OH need time to bond with baby, adjust to the new normal, and (honestly) sleep! Something I read suggested parents w/newborns should establish strict visiting hours (e.g. visitors welcome b/w 2-4pm) to set boundaries which means nobody imposes too much on people already coping with a massive change.

That said, my MiL has offered to come and stay if she's needed - but a) the offer to stay is different to imposition, b) she's offering to come and help rather than expecting to be entertained, and c) we want grandparents to be quite involved in childcare arrangements because both sets live quite locally, so the earlier we can get some ground rules (i.e. ours) down, the better.

BrixtonBunny · 24/02/2015 07:12

Mswibble it's not selfish at all! You will need privacy and space to adjust to life with your new baby. Maybe suggest that they come for a couple of nights but stay in a hotel? And also make it very clear that you and your DH will want plenty of time alone with the baby - can you implement some sort of "visiting hours" system? The last thing I would want to do is have someone stay for a week!

Another night of tossing and turning - I think I've given up on getting a good night's sleep now. Haven't slept "well" since being pregnant but the last could of weeks have been spectacularly bad!

X-post with Annia - totally agree!

Cinnamon that sounds awful, hope you're feeling better this morning. Maybe baby was pressing on your stomach in a weird way? Thanks

Re cot bumpers, I got an Airwrap which is a mesh thing that goes round the cot, breathable and prevent the limbs in bars thing...

I got mine on eBay, but Amazon, JoJo and lots of places have them...
