smellymelly · 28/04/2004 12:43

It's me... I can't believe I get to start this!

I'm due 2nd Jan 2005... Actually AF is not due for 4 days(!!) but have done 3 tests and all positive. I am only 11 days pregnant.

It's a bit lonely here on my own, I hope there will be lots of you joining me soon, especially from 'ttc thread 6'.

Welcome Bakedbean and Artyjoe! I am due on 1st january (possibly).

Glad you had a good scan smellymelly! I went to the doctors today (have to wait a few weeks for a scan) and she told me that the cold is due to the pregnancy hormones. I did get uncontrollable shivers in my last pregnancies, but only at the end.

Bakedbean - the tiredness is a major sympton imo! I have just found out a friend of mine is due at the same time as me and she is having no symptoms at all either, so it is quite common to not feel sick. I was wondering about the hair dye thing as well - what is safe?

Bakedbean · 31/05/2004 12:36

Well, did a bit of research yesterday and although there's very little risk when using hair dye, most guidelines are to leave it until at least 12 weeks. highlights are as bad as all over dye as less touches your scalp (using the cap is even better). Anyway, have cancelled my appointment on Saturday and will rearrange when I'm over 12 weeks - will just have to suffer the roots until then!

smellymelly · 31/05/2004 13:37

Welcome bakedbean - it is so great to have long time trying ttc'rs joining this thread.

I never worried about dyeing my hair, did it a couple of times while pregnant with both ds, and dd. I actually think it is a good thing to have something done for yourself while you can, that makes you feel better!!

OP posts:
artyjoe · 01/06/2004 13:53

I agree about getting your hair done but I'm concerned that I'll be able to sit through it! Yesterday nausea appeared and have had the 'runs' ever since...really looking forward to the 'blooming' stage

Am only six weeks and 3 days pregnant and am already only fitting into one pair of trousers...how can this be possible! Maybe I need to cut back on the Maltesers

Am having a scan on Tuesday, 7 weeks and 1 day, has anyone else had one this early before so I know what to expect?

Bakedbean · 01/06/2004 14:00

Hi artyjoe. I had a scan at 6 weeks and 4 days. It was done vaginally and was exceptionally clear. Could even see the heart beat. I've got another one in 12 days time and can't wait - just want to get to 12 weeks and as you say, hit the blooming stage! Although I've lost weight in pounds, I've put it on around my tummy - feel bloated. Read in a book that that could be down to a bit of constipation, but if you've had 'the runs' can't imagine that's it!

I've also had my hayfever hit with a vengeance today (what with the roots, look most attractive) and can't take anything for that - anyone got any ideas?

smellymelly · 01/06/2004 15:05

Baked bean - For hayfever, go to your gp (you get free prescriptions now) and he can give you a Beconase nose spray, and some eye drops, which really help.

Artyjoe - you may have an external and/or internal scan. And should see the heartbeat, I think. We saw the heartbeats at 6 weeks.

Dp is looking forward to the blooming stage too!! Yesterday evening we had a huge roast dinner at his parents, to celebrate scan, and by the time I got home the whole lot came up, just at the same time as DD decided to join in and have gastro-enteritus!!! She then threw up all night! He had an awful lot of sick to clear up

Where is everybody???

OP posts:
Wid · 05/06/2004 00:36

If everyone's like me, too nauseous and tired to even log on. Or weeing for England! I wasn't sick with DS1, but I wasn't this nauseous either. I was made redundant from work on Fri. 21st May (actively sought it) so not having work to distract me might be making it worse and chasing around after hyper-active 3-year old DS is quite tiring.

I'm having an early scan (8 wks) this Tuesday. I was worrying about whether the infertility problems I was having would have an effect on the pregnancy (as well as my age, 38), so the hospital said I could have an early scan. Hopefully, once I have the re-assurance of the scan, I will be a little more active on this thread.

Does anyone know where you can get these pregnancy pops or anything similar?

artyjoe · 05/06/2004 18:11

Hi Everyone

Here was I smugly thinking I'd be one of the lucky ones with no nausea, and then three days ago...bang, I've not got off the boat since. I'm unable to drive my car and have managed to gain 9 pounds in total already (I'm 7 weeks today) and if i so much as see another ginger biscuit...:-) it's very easy to forget why i feel like absolute crap, sick, diorhoea, bad back, nausea, sore shoulders, getting bigger, but am having a scan tomorrow so hopefully i'll see a little heart beat which will get me back on track. After 9 years of trying I can't believe how much I can whinge about it :-) Hope you all had good weekends, hubby is insisting I join him outside in the sun, no doubt going to freeze now!

pollyanna · 05/06/2004 19:48

Hi everyone! Yes, feel crap too - like you Wid I've stopped work, but I think the sickness etc is easier to deal with there. The What to Expect book says the nausea and tiredness peak in the 9th week! (hasn't worked with me in my previous pregnancies, but who knows???).

Hope you all start feeling better soon.

artyjoe · 06/06/2004 18:53

Had my scan today and all looks well - hooray! I asked if it would hurt as it was internal and she said no - liars! Still, it was worth it to see a little heart on the screen

I hope you are wrong Polyanna about morning sickness peaking at 9 weeks as I'm only on 7 and finding it very very difficult to cope...as I work for myself I can't take time off or a sickie as the boss is a real cow

My npls are killing me, any ideas on easing this? Partner says cabbage leaves but I'm sure that is for after giving birth.

Hope you are all doing well and looking forward to 25 degrees on saturday

Schmozer · 06/06/2004 19:05

Hello all. Have been away with a nasty cold which is still hanging around, but I don't have morning sickness so I don't mind. In fact, very few symptoms at all except crying which is a bit tedious and unpredictable. Fortunately DH is being lovely about it so I can bawl to my heart's content!

Am sending anti-nausea vibes to all who are suffering

Bakedbean · 07/06/2004 13:33

Hi everyone! Went to GP on Friday to register as moved house and blood pressure bit high (have suffered in the past). Bit worried about that now (as if there's not enough other stuff to worry about!). Went back for check yesterday and it had lowered, but will need to be monitored - think I just need to try and take it as easy as poss - difficult when you're working full time.

Other than that, am fine - no sickness either. So far must be one of the lucky ones. Have got a scan on Tuesday - will be 9 weeks and 4 days!

I had actually lost a bit of weight, but weighed myself this morning and have put on 4lbs in the last week! So much for having a Victoria Beckham bump!

Wid · 08/06/2004 01:16

Had a scan yesterday and all seemed as well as can be expected at 8.5 weeks; it was very reassuring to see a heartbeat. The nausea does seem to be getting worse, so I hope you're right, Pollyanna, about it peaking at 9 weeks. Does anyone have any hot tips for taking it away?

In July, this thread should be feeling a lot less sick. Something to look forward to!

artyjoe · 08/06/2004 14:24

The only things that are working for me are ginger biscuits, but now I'm looking for thiner ones as just looking at them are making me gag due to eating so many! Also, diet coke seems to help, apparently it's the sugar rush. I don't know why, but for me, jam and butter brown bread sandwiches are also working. Milk is a goodie before you go to bed to aid with nausea in the morning, but I'm past the stage of being able to touch the stuff! Looking forward to blooming in July! x

smellymelly · 08/06/2004 14:25

Hello all - (9weeks 5 days)

Wid - Glad your scan went well, it is so great to see the heartbeating.

I am wearing my sea-bands 24 hrs a day, and my nausea seems to be better. Even managed to go shopping yesterday for 1st time in weeks!!

Went to wedding shop and sad to say can't get my wedding dress on, so had to buy it just so I could sell it, and then had to buy a plain one about 4 sizes bigger than normal, so I can fit in it in July. Only 6 weeks to go till wedding, but I definitely have a major bump already!

My boobs have just started hurting, and last night I had to wear an old maternity bra in bed coz they were so sore...dp was not impressed!!!

Also had to give dog back to her breeder on Tues (I actually drove 300 miles without being sick!) as there is no way she will get enough time or attention from us when we have 4 kids, age 5 and under. Feel ok as it is really the best thing for her.

When I feel up to it, I have started cleaning madly. Which dp is pleased about, he is sick of tidying up round me..

smellymelly · 08/06/2004 14:30

Forgot to say that I have put on half a sone already from eating 5 times a day, to stop me feeling so sick!!! Have cut back a little now!

There is no mistaking I am pregnant, can't really keep it a secret for much longer!

Told ds last week, that I have 2 babies in my tummy and he was really happy. The next morning he came into our bedroom and said, 'I pleased you have a baby in your tummy, mummy!!' he hasn't got his head round the fact that we are having 2 though!

Then this morning I told him I loved him, and he said 'And I love your baby!' BLESS HIM!!

Tex111 · 08/06/2004 19:30

Hello!! Back from Texas yesterday and feeling soooooo jet-lagged. DS and I slept til almost 2 this afternoon. Of course, we were both up from midnight to 3am eating chicken and chips so it's not surprising we slept so late! Hopefully we'll get back on track over the next few days.

Morning sickness really kicked in while we were away and I've been throwing up every day. I'm nine weeks today so I hope that theory about it peaking now is true. So much to do around the house that I need to be well.

Welcome to the new ladies!! I'm still catching up on the thread... I did read about someone with sore nips and I recommend sleeping in vests with 'secret support'. I find them more comfortable than a bra and they help the soreness by keeping everything in place. If anyone is looking for maternity bras the Elle Macpherson (sp?) range is fantastic. She does great maternity/breast feeding bras that are really pretty too. I just wish she did them in white or flesh-colour.

OK, going to lie down for a bit but I'll be back!

hopejoy · 09/06/2004 16:06

Hello

I'm 6wks+4 and due in Jan (actually early Jan as I'll be induced at 37 weeks - I wrote the preg after stillbirth thread - inducing early is common after stillbirth) I have a dd, age 4 also.

Any pregnant mums on this thread or due dec or feb living in North west/cheshire or even Edinburgh area?

Tinker · 09/06/2004 16:11

Hi hopejoy - I'm in the north west and have just found out I'm due in Feb. Early days still.

hopejoy · 09/06/2004 16:15

Hi Tinker

I know but fingers crossed. I thought it might be an idea to find out if there are folk nearby at a similar stage!

Schmozer · 09/06/2004 16:18

Hopejoy, sorry, I'm in Wales, but it's lovely to have you here. I will be 7 weeks tomorrow and I think the tiredness is really setting in now. Breasts just beginning to hurt too, so perhaps the nausea is on its way as well.

Tex111 - welcome back. I am thoroughly confused by the whole maternity bra issue. None of my pregnancy books mention underwiring at all, let alone as a bad thing, and I really don't want to have to spend much money as what little we have I want to spend on the baby. Also, why do Mothercare and M&S do two packs of black and white bras? I would prefer two white or one white and one flesh. And why don't they do seamfree?

hopejoy · 09/06/2004 17:16

Hi Schmozer

Feel knackered too - always a sign to me that I am pregnant - I dont really need a preg test! Feel sick all the time - no fun!

As for bras - you should not wear underwired when preg as it interferes with development or filling of your milk ducts. I breastfeed so have always taken to non wired bras from day 1 though I imagine it is the same case even if you don't plan to feed (not sure). I hate them though and can't imagine that wearing an underwired bra on special occasions could do any harm

hopejoy · 09/06/2004 17:23

after a quick google it would seem there are some differing opinions on wearing underwired when pregnant...anyone else got any info?
