smellymelly · 28/04/2004 12:43

It's me... I can't believe I get to start this!

I'm due 2nd Jan 2005... Actually AF is not due for 4 days(!!) but have done 3 tests and all positive. I am only 11 days pregnant.

It's a bit lonely here on my own, I hope there will be lots of you joining me soon, especially from 'ttc thread 6'.

Hi SM
thanks, yeh they have the policy! So have had to pay for a home scan to find out sex. Just off to jump in shower then off to hospital, catch ya later, sooooo excited!!

BatLady · 03/09/2004 14:55

Hello - artyjoe is it better for baby to lie on my left side than my right?
Re. fruit, can't remember which baby book I was reading, NHS one I think, said don't have to eat 5 pieces of fruit a day as too much acid can make sickness worse, 2 is OK. Mind you they then said eat green veg, which I haven't done either...rule for eating for last 4 months tends to be "salty, stodgy and now"!

Not up to shopping for long either...or cleaning, tidying, or being awake....

kirstyk · 03/09/2004 15:00

Ok everything was FANTASTIC, the baby is growing perfectly and moves around so much the person doing the scan was getting fed up chasing it around my tummy to get a look at everythingI was told off a little for not having a full bladder i seriously couldn't have drank anymore.
She made sure when showing me the screen she kept well up the head end, so i couldn't see any bits, i'm not bothered i told her i will find out in 2 weeks anyway!!
I think the baby was doing a boxercise class in my tummy as the hands were punching out all over the place, probably trying to get the scanner off my tummy
I got 2 great baby profile pics and now i'm off to coo at them with a big mac!!

BatLady · 03/09/2004 15:02

Also, what does is feel like when the baby moves? Some mornings if I turn onto my back I feel like a small whale is trying to push it's way out of my belly....is that a baby, or just a whale?

kirstyk · 03/09/2004 15:16

LOL @ Batlady, hmmm never felt like that for me i'm afraid. The best way i can describe it is, it's like a tiny place on my tummy muscles inside is being pulled, like a twitch. When it first happened i wasn't sure what the hell it was but now my baby moves all day long, especially when i try and sit for a minute. If i press where the movement is i can sometimes feel the kick/punch on my fingers, that always makes me smile

artyjoe · 06/09/2004 09:33

Hi Batlady, I've read in several books now that if you take a rest try and lie on your left hand side as it is much more beneficial to the baby than the right...it might be psycological now but lying on my right doesn't make me feel too great whereas switching to my left does seem to do the trick.

As for the whale, I've not felt a thing yet apart from a tiny flutter a few days ago, but that might have been wind!

Am definitely starting to look pregnant rather than fat now so that's great.

I haven't had a piece of fruit or a vegatable for about 10 days now so I am going to start afresh today, I've also gained 7 pounds in one week and I've not gained a pound up until now so I'm hoping that was a little growth spurt and it calms down or I'll easily be 20 stones by the time baby is due...argh!!

smellymelly · 06/09/2004 09:42

Hi Artyjoe - I must be the other way round as I'm only comfortable on my right side, actually I'm not comfortable at all!!

I'm 23 weeks now and have put on exactly 2 stone! I only put on 2 stone with ds and 2.5 stone with dd in all... This time will be about 4 stone I reckon. It said in one of my magazines that by this stage I should only have put on between 4 and 6 pounds - LOL.

Thank god it's twins at least I have an excuse.

Feel so much movement now, am trying to make the most of it all, as we won't do this again (4 is enough).

Have another scan on Wed to check their growth, it is so nice to see them every 4 weeks.

BatLady · 07/09/2004 16:33

I've put on about 12lb too, am about 19 weeks. Mostly in first 2 months as was eating to stop feeling awful.

Anyone got any theories on whether first baby's tend to be early, late, on time...? Am getting impatient, especially seeing that you are due on 2nd Jan smellymelly, you'll be juggling 2 babies almost a month before I'm due to have one you lucky thing! (I'm due 28th Jan).

Sorry to be disgusting but the mucus linings in nose/throat are still in overdrive, they seem to vary daily in terms of what foods make them get worse. Typically this week's "ok to drink" thing is coca cola. Anyone else still on caffeine to ease my conscience?

artyjoe · 07/09/2004 18:03

Hi Batlady

As soon as morning sickness left, which lasted far too bloody long as I'm concerned, I went straight back to Diet Coke. Not having the coke was one of the most depressing things! I don't drink cafeinated coffee but Diet Coke is a daily ritual...and as I have given up smoking then I refuse to feel guilty about it :-)

Apparently first babies are more likely to be late than on time or early...although I believe you get what you put out so I've made an apointment with the bump to come at 4pm New Years eve, be out by 5pm so that I can be back home in time for the bells at midnight...if you don't ask you don't get This would make the baby 17 days early but I can't see the harm in encouraging him/her to arrive on New Years Eve!

I (allegedly) am snoring now due to the mucus in nose thingie so you are not alone, I don't really notice it until I try and kiss hubby or sleep with mouth closed!

Had a problem with swolen legs, the ugly foot monster arrived yesterday which had me worried, but the midwife today checked me over thoroughly and said although it is rare (trust me) it is severe water retention, hey ho, better than pre-eclampsia by far so am happy now. Two more weeks until I get another scan.

I know what you mean about impatient, I'm so ready to have this baby now, the thought of waiting another 3 months or so is a killer.

Be well - Joe

earlygirl · 07/09/2004 18:06

artyjoe how are you? how are your legs?

artyjoe · 08/09/2004 13:31

Hi Earlygirl

Legs are still swolen but feel better today. Am going to spend more time with my feet up, hard to do when you work for yourself but rather that than in hospital, so am determined to take it easy...maybe tomorrow

smellymelly · 09/09/2004 17:28

Hi Batlady - Had a scan yesterday and they said if I got as far as 37 weeks they would induce me! So actually I will definitely have them before Xmas!!! Sorry to make you jealous.

I'm also still drinking coke, but it doesn't do my indegestion any good.

I'm also snoring loads, Dh is not impressed, last night I actually kept waking myself up!

Sorry to be shameless but I would like to draw all pregnant ladies' attention to the For Sale threads where I have advertised some maternity wear for sale. Good luck with the pregnancies!

BatLady · 10/09/2004 15:49

Hello All! Had a celebratory swig on my coke bottle after your messages Artyjoe and Smellymelly thanks ever so much! Actually since writing baby has decided that, after hating it for weeks, we love orange juice. Although not today, today we're back on cola....glad to see my little one's inherited it's mum's fickleness already....

Sorry to hear about your feet Artyjoe, hope you are getting some well-earned rest.

Wow smellymelly you'll be a December mum then! Fantastic. I've got a scan on Wednesday and am cart-wheeling (in my dreams) with excitment at thought of finding out whether its a girl or boy bump, hope he/she's not hiding their bits...

Am feeling a lot better most of the time at the mo and seem to be feeling all sort of warm and mellow, and mildly smug too. Feels smashing and makes up a lot for the fact that sickness still looms now and then. Anyone else floating in the land of the smug mum-to-bes'?

Hope you all have a good weekend.

kirstyk · 10/09/2004 15:58

Hello ladies, hope we are all feeling ok, i am just starting to realise i am pregnant and can't do things like i used to!
I find it so hard to take it easy though as my bump isn't really that big atm, i just look fat
But last couple of days i have noticed lower backache, feeling a bit sicky and i go to toilet in the night to pee so much more than i did AGAIN! I thought it was meant to ease up now? I am 22 weeks this sunday, when is the blooming stage?? LOL yeh right!

smellymelly · 10/09/2004 16:18

Batlady - It is great to hear how smug you are!

I'm really proud of having 2 already and having another 2, it makes me very smug too!

OP posts:
artyjoe · 10/09/2004 21:13

Hi smug ones!

I too seem to be reverting back to how I was when I had morning sickness, have started to develop slight nausea the last two days and today I couldn't eat my tea and ended up spending £30 on a pizza instead, and now can't digest it. I have an awful feeling I'm going to go right back to how I was...the midwife did warn me that this might happen but I thought she was taking the mick!

My bump has grown under my boobs now so if I need to pick something up off the floor I have to bend my knees outward as I bend down...sooo attractive from behind!

Did someone say bloom? What exactly is the definition? I have a feeling it is 'not feeling completely crap 24 hours a day, just 8'.

Hey ho, off to sit on the loo for two hours now...can't wait for the piles to kick in...mmmm yum

Wid · 11/09/2004 22:41

Hi, everyone. I'm back for my fortnightly visit. I, too, am one of the smug ones - 23 weeks and feeling more energetic than before I was pregnant; no nausea, but slight backache and some discomfort in the pelvic area. I can even bear the supermarket again. I'm feeling the baby move most of the day now (when I'm not distracted) so that's very re-assuring, as I hated waited 4 weeks between midwife/scan appointments. All in all, feeling very pleased with myself , but know it won't last!

Hope everyone else is feeling well.

Love Wid

PS
Who's got names?

artyjoe · 12/09/2004 12:14

Hi Wid, am very jealous as I have had (I think though it could have been gas) one gentle movement, and that's it! 22 weeks on Monday so am a bit behind everyone again am going to the midwife every week now with something or other to check, so am at least listening to the heartbeat so not panicking as badly as I was.

Hey ho, 23 week scan coming up when we'll try and
find out the sex again.

Names:
Boy - Ethan Elliot
Girl - Faith Grace

and my DP's DD gets to give it a middle name so at the moment another middle name is Daisy and Colin, we are trying desperately to change her mind about Colin!

Am starting to get my nausea back so am just praying I'm having a bad few days due to stress and that I'll be okay again soon, not sure how I'd cope with another 15 weeks of morning sickness.

Joe

pollyanna · 12/09/2004 22:59

Hi everyone, I haven't checked in for a while as I've been without a computer for 7 weeks (don't know how I managed). I'm glad everyone's feeling better now. I can't believe there's a Due in May thread already!!

Anyway I'm 24+? weeks now (due on 1st Jan) and actually had my booking in appointment with the midwife last week. Yes, they are being completely crap at my hospital. I have my 20 week scan next week too!! I think I have spd, but otherwise feel much better now. Have loads of movement from the baby, and have put on loads of weight - I had managed to avoid weighing myself until I saw the midwife. Oops.

I don't have any names yet - dh is refusing to talk about it until the baby is born. This is why dd2 didn't have a name until the deadline for registering her birth!

BatLady · 13/09/2004 10:34

Happy Monday all! I'm sorry you're not feeling great Artyjoe and KirstyK, horrified at idea m.sickness might come back, please don't let that be true......

I still laugh every time I try to bend down and my bump bounces off my legs. After leaving the chemist feeling dazed from bending up and down, have also decided to launch a campaign asking all shops to put anything that pregnant women may want to buy on the top shelves, ha ha. Including crisps.

Names - yours are smashing AJ. We've got quite a list of options, mostly keen to find out if it be a girl or boy first, fingers crossed for Wednesday...

Bakedbean · 13/09/2004 11:18

Hi there everyone! Good to read all your messages this morning as just got back from a 2 week break. Had my scan last week and all ok - baby is big but I'm pleased! Kicking with a vengeance now, but still feeling pretty good considering. Also had a massage while I was away - fantastic - would recommend it. Did wonders for my stiff back.

kirstyk · 13/09/2004 12:53

Morning!

Pleased to report sickness didn't last Batlady, so you can calm down now, hope Artyjoe feels better too.
I am having my scan on Saturday at home to find out if i am having a boy or a girl and it can't come quick enough I really don't mind which it is, i know people always say that but this is my first and i am doing it all alone and i honestly don't mind i just wanna hit the shops for baby clothes, ha ha
I can see my tummy moving now if i lie down when i feel movement, it's really weird but makes me smile too
My appetite has really worn off atm i don't really get that hungry anymore and have to remind myself to eat, still stuffing in the fruit and vitamins though.

I find that walking, if i don't take it down to a steady stroll i get stitch very quickly, my friends are not happy when we go shopping and it takes us twice the time to walk the street as it used to do, anyone else noticed that?

I'm hoping too that the scan will make it more real for me as i am still not really that big and am very envious of you lot with the big bumps already!

pollyanna · 13/09/2004 21:48

Don't be envious of big bumps Kirstyk - I look about 8 months pregnant already!

I don't know whether to find out the sex of the baby at the scan - what has everyone else done? (my dh, ds and dd1 all really want to find out, I'm happy to leave it, but am wavering).

BatLady · 14/09/2004 13:46

Yep KirstyK I get stitch very quick too, especially if I've eaten in last hour. Coupled with that I run out of breath if walk faster uphill than a snail, especially if I'm talking too.

My appetite sort of eased off too but I feel dizzy and odd if I don't eat, so still eating every 3-4 hours. Finding it tricky to think of things that I feel like eating, other than scrambled egg or....chips! can't believe it, used to be ever so good on junk food but now chips are the only thing that really hit the mark! Couple that with breathlessness and you can guess how wobbly I'm becoming.....

Is everyone taking vitamin pills? What ones?

Finally - pollyanna I really want to know if boy or girl now, just feel really keen to know out of curiosity and excitement really, and to help it sink in that there's a real person in there!
I always thought it would be better not to know, and I think that's the view of a lot of grandparents etc., but now it's my turn I'm dying to find out. Don't think it matters either way, if you want to keep the surprise, can you get dad to find out and keep it to himself? Or ask scanner to write it down so you can hide it away somewhere until you've decided you want to know.
