smellymelly · 28/04/2004 12:43

It's me... I can't believe I get to start this!

I'm due 2nd Jan 2005... Actually AF is not due for 4 days(!!) but have done 3 tests and all positive. I am only 11 days pregnant.

It's a bit lonely here on my own, I hope there will be lots of you joining me soon, especially from 'ttc thread 6'.

Hello hello hello guess who at last feels HUMAN?? WAHHOOOO!! Exactly as you say artyjoe I will never again take feeling fine for granted! Have felt pretty much "not-sick" for 3 days and am bubbling over with relief...am crossing everything that it stays. Am still a very sleepy lump (literally, my tummy is getting in the way of my sitting up now...) but feeling so much happier. I'm 16+3, so don't lost heart out there if you still feel awful after 12 weeks!
My bump is massive, I'm weeble-shape already and clothes getting very tight!
Re. scans, I had a private nuchal one for £90 at The Abbas Clinic in Sevenoaks and can't recommend them enough for being friendly and taking lots of time while I cooed and ahh-ed at the screen - they videoed the whole thing too so we've got 15 mins of bouncing baby already! Just thought I'd mention this as I don't know how prices vary....

kirstyk · 17/08/2004 13:36

Hi yes i am due in January too. This will be my first baby and i am so excited not sure wether to laugh or cry, lol but then i feel like that 24/7 Just wanted to ask if anyone else wants to know the sex of the baby and has a hospital with a policy that they don't tell you? I have now sorted a private home scan out and i think it's quite reasonable in price, it was just such a let down when i found out hospital weren't gonna tell me but had no options for me to take. Not really helpful at all, tbh my mw at hospital was a real dragoni don't think i have to deal with her from now on thank god!

artyjoe · 18/08/2004 14:57

Kirstyk : Know how you feel, I paid for a 4D private scan but the baby had its hands on its genitals and its legs crossed, so it was no use, it is still a mystery...but all clear on spinabifida etc so well worth the money. I am having another at 23 weeks and filled in a form giving permission to tell me the sex, so fingers crossed as I'm desperate to find out.

I also know how you feel about the midwife, we have a team covering our hospital and one of them is a real phleb, totally useless, so I just hope she is not on staff when I go into labour or I'll be doing it on my own!

Batlady, welcome to feeling almost normal again! I actually don't feel pregnant at all at the moment (can't win really!) except for the occasional hit of exhausion which comes on very fast. You can't tell I'm pregnant as the baby is sitting very low still, hopefully it will have a growth spurt soon so I'll look pregnant and not just fatter

Well done mosschops30, I really hope for a girl and just hope it will reveal itself, one way or the other, on my 23 week scan. I have a sneaky suspicion it's a boy as it was holding its hands over its genitals, and ladies just don't do that!

StaceyK, right back at ya! Tried on a pair of dungarees in mothercare yesterday, all i ever wanted was to look totally pregnant in a beautiful pair of denim dungarees...I looked absolutely horrendous, what a shame, hey ho, not meant to be. Back to the drawing board...

Been bitten to hell by mozzi's so still have something to whinge to partner about

mosschops-glad everything went well, i hope at my private home scan i get to find out sex i will be so upset if i don't that's my main reason for paying for it.
atryjoe- i know what you mean by doing it on your own if you end up with the mw from hell. I was thinking the same, it would just be my luck that she will be on duty when i go into labour. If she is and she talks to me the way she did at my last appointment then she will get it from me, i will not take it whilst giving birth, lol
My mum is gonna be with me too and trust me she will really lay into her if she trys to be stropy with either of us, should be interesting

Wid · 18/08/2004 21:36

Hi everyone. I'm a bit of an infrequent contributor to this thread, but it's good to hear that everyone is feeling much better now. I agree with the comments that you turn the corner at 16 weeks, not 12.

Batlady, I think you got a bargain with your private nuchal scan at £90; mine cost £100 for the consultant, £60 for 'hospital hire' and £88 for the double blood test! Anyway, it was still worth it. Had 19 week scan last week and all seems well.

I'm beginning to show at last. The spare tyres are definitely becoming more rounded. When you're carrying excess weight it's more difficult to feel the baby moving, but I've definitely felt flutterings. I get really worried if I don't notice any movement for a couple of days and it doesn't help that antenatal appointments are only every 4 weeks at this stage, so I have to wait another 3 weeks before hearing a heartbeat again. Never mind - the joys of a paranoid pregnancy! Take care everyone.

kirstyk · 19/08/2004 16:20

Wid- did you have your private one at private hospital? I checked a few out and they were along same prices as you payed. I found my scan in pregnancy mags. They actually come to your home and give you 30min scan. You also get pictures and 20min video to keep. All this in the comfort of my home and all for £140, £30 was for her coming to my house and me not having to travel to her. I can't wait for it everytime i think of it i

bakedpotato · 20/08/2004 11:19

hello, can i join you? i'm 16 wks, due 30 jan... feeling pretty good (now), just heifer-like around the middle. also i have real cause for celebration as last night i ate a cooked green vegetable (spinach) for the first time in 4 months. green veg have been a real no-no for me since, well, conception I guess.
i have a daughter who will be 3 in nov and i'm enjoying feeling a bit more laidback about this pg. i went a bit crazy 1st time around.
glad to have found mn...

smellymelly · 20/08/2004 12:28

Hiya Baked potato, and welcome!

KirstyK - Do you mind me asking where you live, does this company only scan where you are? Any chance of a contact number? Cheers!

Hi Baked Potato and congrats.

Like Wid I don't say that much here but hi to everyone else too!

Just had my second scan (first was an early pregnancy scan) and all is well and I'm just over 17 weeks gone and into the big clothes now. Eating like a horse witha fondness for raspberries

kirstyk · 20/08/2004 21:41

smellymelly- i live in London but they don't cover London so they are coming to my parents home whch is in Doncaster. They are so friendly and helpful please give them a call they will do everything they can do sort it out for you. they are called Preview Ultrasound and the number is 01536 790389, website-previewultrasound.co.uk
Good luck let me know how it goes!

Wid · 21/08/2004 21:48

KirtsyK - had the nuchal scan done privately in an NHS hospital after 5p.m.. The price was pretty much the same in our local BUPA hospital. This at-home scan sounds quite good.

Welcome - Baked Potato. I too started to be able to eat again at c.16+ weeks, but unfortunately my current energy levels don't stretch to shopping for and cooking fresh veg. , so I'm not feeling particularly proud of myself at the moment. Does '5-a-day' count if it's all fruit?

Overall, I'm feeling prety good at the moment (20 weeks), except for aversion to shopping and cooking. Can any mums remember how long this feeling of well-being really lasts? We're thinking of flying to Spain for 4 nights when I'm at 30 weeks, but I don't want to go ahead and book everything now if 30 weeks is getting dodgy?
Thanks

artyjoe · 23/08/2004 16:49

Hi Wid

I know how you feel, fresh veg? I can manage a potato and disguised mushrooms, that's all! Peaches and nectarines and strawberries are working but I'm not getting them in five times a day by any means. Felt well yesterday afternoon so decided to have steak and chips for a change, what a mistake, didn't digest, was ill all night to then have the runs all day today, disaster. I think that's my lot of red meat until I give birth!

I'm not feeling the baby yet which is making me very disapointed as my neighbour was feeling hers from 16 weeks, and I'm 19...hey ho, I'm sure it will be any minute

If you are not up to shopping and fancy a boost go to Mamas & Papas and make a wish list, I can't do Tesco but managed an hour in MP's very easily, really made it feel real again for a few hours.

Laying on my left side for 20 minutes is really helping me at the mo with regards to energy levels. Half way there....

smellymelly · 24/08/2004 09:22

Hi Ladies, Thanks KirstyK - not sure if I'll call them as they are so far away, and also I have a scan every 4 weeks anyway, just thought the video might be nice, as I had one with dd.

Was my birthday on Sunday, and dh bought me some diamond earrings (!!!) and took me out to dinner on Sat night at a fab restaurant in Dartmouth, owned by the chef who is currently in the ch4 series 'French leave'. The food was amazing, and I was a little naughty, having a whole lobster! I'm feeling thoroughly spoilt... (I paid with indegestion all night though)

My SPD is incredibly bad at the moment, had to get crutches yesterday, from physio. I thought I would only need them at night but have been using them just to get around the house all the time.

We have been feeling the babies kicking on the outside now for 2 weeks, and I saw my tummy move the other day, it doesn't matter how often I do this, it still completely amazes me! I feel so lucky to be having 2 at once, now all I have to do is get through the next 3-4 months..

OP posts:
artyjoe · 26/08/2004 17:40

Hi Guys

Still can't feel the baby move or kick but have found my own way of feeling the baby! I've just had a larger than standard bath installed so when it is full if I flip onto my stomach and oh so gently let my belly press the bottom of the bath, I can definitely feel the baby inside my tummy. I'm sure for the second or two that i do this the baby is cursing me and getting squashed but, for someone who is very overweight, this is a reassuring feeling that I'm not just getting fatter!

Am counting the days until midwife on Tuesday as I need to hear the heartbeat again...has anybody else hired a doppler...my partner says not to as it will get me neurotic but not sure which is worse, using a doppler every day to hear the baby or worrying everyday that something's gone wrong.

Have started to gain 0.2 pounds per day, every day, for the last six days...this is now a worrying trend!! Anyone else losing the battle of weight gain?

Joe

Bakedbean · 27/08/2004 09:40

Hi Joe! Glad you've found a way to feel the baby! Mine has been fluttering quite a bit early in the morning - still no major kicks but a few definite movements now. 21 weeks today and have got my next scan in 10 days time, so can't wait for that. Feels like an age since my last midwife appointment!

Got on the scales this morning for the first time in a good few weeks. I am now approaching a stone's weight gain since I got pregnant, so I'm definitely looking at over 2 by the end! It is all out front - not sure if that's a good thing or bad! Might be carrying a baby hippo!

BB

smellymelly · 27/08/2004 10:56

Artyjoe - I bought a doppler and it has been invaluable. Better in the early weeks when I couldn't feel them moving, I was able to hear them from 10 weeks!

We still use it now for reassurance, and it is the best thing I have bought!

Just popped in to say hi to you all - glad you're coping OK smelly.
Had to drop out of this thread early on - but just started the due May thread

artyjoe · 31/08/2004 15:58

Well done Cab!

Have just been to the midwife and finally met one who was actually good at her job! Persuaded me not to get a doppler but has allowed me to visit every two weeks to listen to heartbeat. She has also offered me counselling due to waiting 9 years to conceive, she thinks I don't believe it is happening...she's bloody right about that

Spent 3 days in cornwall with a 7 week old baby and a relaxed mum who left me with baby for hours on end to cope with crying, screaming, sleeping and feeding, and it has given me a real confidence boost...didn't change the nappies though as I still want to live in denial about that one

Midwife also booked me in to see a consultant, which I have been asking for for 20 weeks and was told wasn't necessary, she told me I should have been under one from the start, so good to know I'm not just neurotic and that I'm still always right

Uterous has grown the last few days so think i may actually look pregnant in a few days rather than just fat, hooray!! Hope you are all well and making the most of the last rays of summer! Christmas will be here before we know it

Joe

BigBird · 31/08/2004 16:48

great news CAB - Congrats !!

cab · 01/09/2004 23:28

Ta big bird and artyjoe - shall keep a look out for you all. This is absolutely my final go for number 2 - husband now booked in for the snip. Had another two 'almost' pregnancies since Jan where was getting feint positive/negative tests (before AF due), but this time the test at least is VERY positive and for a change I know my dates!

kirstyk · 03/09/2004 12:14

Hello, just thought i would drop in and let you know i am going to hospital this afternoon for my 20 week scan. Can't wait to see junior again, i am trying to pack up as i am moving but i just wanna jump in bath and think about seeing little one. So much better this time than with first scan as i was paranoid i wasn't even pregnant and was going to be told it was phantom pregnany or something, lol
I only have 2 more weeks to wait for home scan too for me to find out if i'm having a boy or a girl. ok best get back to the packing i guess

smellymelly · 03/09/2004 12:55

Good luck KirstyK - any chance you may find out the sex today??

We saw our boy twins bits at the 12 and 15 week scan. Or do your hospital have a 'no sex' policy!?!
