MsRyan girls don't pee in your face which is a good start! Grin Congrats by the way!!

Naty1 · 09/02/2015 19:31

Not buying cardigans for a july baby! We just used vest and gro and maybe blanket. For june baby.
sophie
Dsis had placenta previa she was having CS anyway but they were worried about bleeding and placenta accreta (in CS scar). Mainly as they are abroad where no ambulances and acreta could have meant removal of uterus.
She did have a bit of bleeding towards the end, though not too much, had couple of weeks off work on bed rest. But by late on it had moved up. (She was higher risk for previa due to ivf, age etc)

I will get some formula. We never used it till after 1 yo i dont think. But had awful time first day out of hospital like day 4 or so. Milk had come in and baby couldnt latch. Couldnt even pump. So its worth reading about manual expressing, just enough that they can latch.
I was being asked at hospital how often DD was feeding, probably because of jaundice but also its on their list.
I found my sheet with it on and have thrown it out, i dont want to remember feeding for 1hr20min then another feed 40min later for 40mins etc.
im going to get them to check for TT next time in hospital, just in case.
We havent bought anything yet. We already have all but like breast pads, maternity pads etc.

Did someone say 18 breastpads a day i dont think i was going through anywhere near that many.

Nipple cream - amazing. Im going to try to remember to use every feed this time at start as last time bleeding/cracked very painful in first few weeks

Lewaney3 · 09/02/2015 19:35

Congratulations mrsryan :)

I think I will be getting a baby bath as I have this vision of giving them nice cosy warm baths in the living room... Although I think reality may be different.

On a side note can I just rant here and feel sorry for myself... I've been home all day alone today...HG is back in strong force. Vomiting throughout the day and not to sound like a child but I hate throwing up as I find it so difficult to the extent my ribs and back have become ever so sore from all the retching these past months. Sat down by the toilet and had a good cry at my sorry state.
Called DH informing him I'm having a very bad day and to get some dinner for himself. He told me works led to him travelling up north and he won't be home for another 3 hours at least. Had some toast. Managed to get a blanket downstairs to the sofa and now teary eyed feeling like crap. Also recently married and moved away from all my family and friends. We haven't told DH family yet until 20 week scan. I know I should pull it together. But I just want to bawl like a child.

Sorry to put negativity into the thread.
I hope everyone is having a much better day than me.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 09/02/2015 19:44

Congrats mrsryan! No girls don't wee in your face but mine did manage to poo in the microwave at a few weeks old Shock, very long and complicated story which my NCT instructor has told me she now tells to all of her classes!

I didn't use anything like 18 breast pads a day either. We didn't use cardigans for our November baby, the house was pretty warm so she wore a long sleeved vest and sleepsuit inside and when we went out she was wrapped in a snowsuit or blankets. She has always been a warm baby and even now refuses to wear hats/gloves etc outside and hates wearing too many layers. I don't think I'll buy any cardigans for a July baby.

jmojo · 09/02/2015 19:48

OK Gottobe I have to ask...what was your baby doing in the microwave? Not the best way to warm them up as far as I remember, but I have been out of the midwifery game for a few years!Wink LOL

jmojo · 09/02/2015 19:50

Lewaney I remember crying by the toilet. How many weeks are you? Curl up and cry if that is what you need to do. HG is vile, vile, vile!!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 09/02/2015 19:51

We had a changing mat on the surface next to the microwave while she was tiny. I was changing her nappy and picked her up to get her poo covered vest out from under her. Queue another huge poo explosion (she had terrible wind as a baby) just as DH was opening the microwave to put something in. Safe to say we got a new microwave!

jmojo · 09/02/2015 19:54

Hahahaha! Oh my, fantastic, and great aim too! Quite the party trick!!

fattymcfatfat · 09/02/2015 19:56

gotto I think you have just made my day! very good aim!

Lewaney3 · 09/02/2015 20:06

jmojo I'm 16 weeks. Scan on Thursday so just trying to focus on the good!

gotto your story has cheered me up! Haha

Naty1 · 09/02/2015 20:20

Funny gotto
I dont think you needed to get rid of microwave, just sterilised it. Psycologically though, ergh!
Dd got poop on my dads trouser leg from 2m away. Me and mum changing her on travel cot mat in lounge we heard/sensed something and mum stepped out of the way....so DF got it sat on the couch.
So its certainky true that girls cant wee at you but this is worse.
Actually we may have been bicycling her legs to get the wind out.
lewaney hope your HG goes away.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 09/02/2015 20:27

I'm sure we probably didn't but neither of us really fancied scrubbing it out of the seal in the door in our new parent/sleep deprived state Grin.

LostSoulsForever · 09/02/2015 20:36

It is so exciting hearing what everyone is having! We don't have 20 week scan until the 27th but I really hope we can find out the sex. I am desperate to know!
Lewaney, I moved away from family & friends for my now husband too, it is really hard. FaceTime/Skype have been a lifesaver, as were baby groups as husband was away a lot during first 18 months of DS's life & I needed to get out & meet people. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Still not feeling movements which is making me really anxious Sad
AND I still feel like I have been kicked in the foof. It is really uncomfortable.
We never bothered with a baby bath or thermometer, were given a bath support so just used that in the bath, and guessed with the water. Also never bothered with cardigans for DS who was a May baby.
Sounds like quite a few have their hands full with house renovating - good luck with that! Think of the end result to keep you going Smile
Anyone know much about home births?

Luckystar82 · 09/02/2015 21:33

Congrats to all who've found out the sex. We've got our 20 week scan on feb 25 and I'm also desperate to find out the sex, I really hope the baby is cooperative!

I'm 18 weeks today and think I felt movement last night for first time. Felt a little buzzing and gentle stroking inside about 11pm. Have felt discomfort in belly for first time today, a bit of pain when I got home from work. Will be nice when I can feel baby moving properly so I'm not worrying if it's ok!

My mum has gone crazy knitting cardigans. I've explained its a July baby but she is insistent cardigans are a necessity! Any excuse for knitting though, I don't think she can think of anything else to knit!

We've decided to get this baby bath. It's looks like it is easier to empty and we figured it can double up as a bucket afterwards! Apparently lots of babies find them really relaxing:

Tummy Tubs are nice, but they grow out of them really quickly!

Just finished watching another brilliant episode of Catastrophe on C4. So funny. The ending with a girl with Down syndrome was really good, as Sharon felt the guilt of being relieved with a positive amino result. Best thing on telly and brilliantly portrays the ups and downs of pregnancy!

BadIdeaBear · 09/02/2015 22:50

gotto best laugh of my day - thank you!!

Catastrophe does feel like good timing for us, isn't it? We're enjoying it too - and that last scene today was really well handled. Is that consultant and his attitude and approach at all accurate though? As someone lucky enough at the moment to be low risk, I've only seen one midwife and some sonographers.

My DSis is going to give me a Tummytub - she's been using it with her DS - she said it has been great while it lasted but yeah they don't last that long.

WiIdfire · 10/02/2015 08:52

Just want to go against the flow and say do get emergency formula in. When my sister really couldnt bear the pain from bf'ing any longer it was 2am on a Sunday and the nearest 24 hr shop was a 40 mile round trip. She was so distraught, the baby was crying, if I hadnt been there I think she would really have gone out in the car at 2 am. Using a couple of bottles of formula during those early days hasnt stopped him being pretty exclusively bf for 18 months now. I will be getting some just in case.

Naturegirl82 · 10/02/2015 09:06

The emergency formula is such a personal decision. You need to weigh up how you feel (would you like to be prepared just in case, or will you feel tempted to use it when you don't really want to), and also where you live (i.e. how easy will it be to get formula in wildfire's example, for me it's a 2 min journey for example). Those things will help you decide if you want to buy it or not. The only thing to be aware of is that those first few days/weeks are so important in helping to establish your supply, if you supplement too much (and no one can really say how much is too much as each mum and baby is different) your supply may never increase enough to reach the demand of the baby, and you may end up mix or formula feeding (nothing wrong with either if that's your choice) when you wanted to ebf.

The most essential thing to buy if you are going to try to breastfeed is nipple cream (one that doesn't need to be removed before feeding). And put it on after every feed whether you feel fine or not. It may not prevent sore nipples but it should help. Because for most (not all, as I said each mum and baby is different) you are likely to get sore nipples, not necessarily from bad latch, but just because your poor sensitive nipples are not used to having this tiny little mouth clamped on many many times a day and night. But it really is the most amazing thing to do if you want to.

Butler4 · 10/02/2015 09:40

Any suggestions for best nipple creams? ( that's a sentence I didn't expect to be writing! ) Smile

Naturegirl82 · 10/02/2015 10:00

Haha butler I bet you didn't! A lot of people use lanisinoh but it is expensive (£10.49 per 40ml). I've also heard it can be quite hard and difficult to apply (I think you are meant to soften it before putting on), but it is the most well known brand. I used asda's own N-Spa Mum to Be Soothing Nipple Balm which is much cheaper (£5 per 100ml but has the same ingredients). I found this worked well, and a few other people in my breastfeeding group used it as well and liked it. I don't know about any of the others available though. The thing to check is that whatever you decide to use, is that it contains lanolin (as long as you aren't allergic) and doesn't need to be removed before feeding. Even though I fed DD for a year, I didn't finish one tube of the Asda's own brand, a little really does go a long way!

Butler4 · 10/02/2015 10:31

Thanks nature, just had a wee look online and that seems to be popular. Amazon have it for £7. Seems to early for that but I like to have a look at these things. Thanks

Luckystar82 · 10/02/2015 10:54

Woke up this morning to a phone call from our bank saying that my DH account and our joint account have been rinsed of thousands of pounds by some b*stard fraudster!!! They have blocked all our accounts and we have NO money!! Little scroat spent our money in fancy shops like harvey nics, then went to Nandos!

We are in the middle of selling our house /buying a new house at the moment and expect to move at the end of Feb. Couldn't have been worse timing.

Bank are now investigating and will phone us back this pm.

Anyone have any experience of bank fraud? how long did it take to get your money back? I'm sooo stressed out about it as it could jeapardise our move. (and my husband has just informed he booked a surprise table at our favourite restaurant for Valentines, but now he has to phone up and cancel as we don't have any money :( :( :(

Butler4 · 10/02/2015 11:00

Oh lucky star that is terrible! Hope you are ok.
A few years back someone booked a £2.5k holiday to Dubai on my credit card and they reimbursed it quite quickly (few days). I know that's different with it being a credit card and not your actual account. Hope you manage to get your money back soon and it doesn't effect your move.

fattymcfatfat · 10/02/2015 11:23

oh how awful! why would someone do that?... hope things get sorted quickly for you
