Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Nature I think we're just going to get the rumble seat and buggy board to add on to the vista too, and use a sling for the first few months. I change my mind daily though about whether to change for a double or not! I hadn't thought about getting a new mattress Confused, we didn't actually ever use it for overnight sleeping as we had a spare Moses basket so it's still in really good condition. Probably should though.

Naturegirl82 · 21/01/2015 11:38

Gotto I literally thought about it as I was typing that message! I think I may need to as it is currently in the loft so a bit worried about dust etc. Although it is well packaged in the original packing so maybe not. We didn't use it much for overnight sleeping as we had a cacoonababy as well but it was useful to have the option. Although I also had a bed-nest so that was easily transportable to. So glad I don't have to buy it all again this time!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 21/01/2015 11:43

How did you find the cacoonababy? I'm thinking of investing in one this time around. DD loved feeling enclosed and snuggled and we really struggled transitioning her from the Moses basket to the cot last time so trying to think of other options to avoid that battle this time round!

Naturegirl82 · 21/01/2015 11:49

Gotto it is AMAZING!! DD wouldn't settle in a moses basket at all which is how we ended up getting a bednest as we thought that would help (the moses basket came from my sister but I don't think I would have bought one myself). But she just didn't like being flat on her back (no reflux problems) so would stir as soon as you tried to put her down (and I was scared of co-sleeping because I was so tired) and as soon as we got the cacoonababy (I think she was 1.5 weeks old) she started sleeping a few hours at a time Smile. Dh and I agree it was one of the best things we bought and recommend it to everyone. I'll be using it from the start this time. I also like the fact that it was developed for babies in neonatal units so there is quite a bit of scientific research behind it so it is safe, and also helps to prevent flat head syndrome. For the money I would definitely say buy it.

Naturegirl82 · 21/01/2015 11:50

Although you have to stop using it once the baby has learnt to roll over so not sure if it will help with the transition to the cot depending on what age you will move out of the moses basket. We didn't find a problem moving DD from the cacoonababy to the bednest once she started rolling though (about 4 months I think) so it definitely helped until she was a better sleeper.

Zampa · 21/01/2015 12:05

I got a Cocoonababy secondhand on eBay (a third of the price) but I'm now concerned about using it as assume that the same principle applies to items like this as well as mattresses.

Any ideas?

Threeplus1 · 21/01/2015 12:11

Cocoonababy hasn't been deemed as safe in Canada or the US so I can't get one, as they don't allow importation of them. I've never used one before anyway as I co sleep and use a cot/bassinet for naps

Naturegirl82 · 21/01/2015 12:32

Threeplus1 that is interesting that they aren't deemed safe over there. Do you know why? It does state on the info that it's not safe once the baby can roll by themselves (as I imagine baby will end up face down with it on top of it) and that you must always use the safety strap. The way we use ours it wouldn't be able to flip over anyway. But I would be interested to read why it is deemed unsafe over there.

StoneBaby · 21/01/2015 12:40

My pushchair is forawrd facing but the car seat when on it is parents facing. I used it like this until DS was 4 months and then he sat in the pushchair facing the world. We'll do the same with this DC.

DS went straight into his cot in his own room when we got home from hospital (he was 7 days old). During the day, he was in a moses basket downstairs.

Naturegirl82 · 21/01/2015 13:05

stone were you not worried about the SIDs risk with him being in his own room? My friend did the same, it's just not something I would be comfortable doing. Were you not constantly having to go into his room in the night?

I really hate having to get out of bed in the night so like the fact I can just pull the DC in from the crib into bed to feed. I just remember those first few weeks being a blur of no-sleep at night. I don't think anything can really prepare you for the reality of it.

Naturegirl82 · 21/01/2015 13:07

Zampa I'll be reusing my cocoonababy but we have had it from new. I washed all the sheets before packing it away. The babies don't really lie on the mattressy bit of the base, they get cradled by the covers. The second layer is also waterproof (I think from memory - I know I couldn't put it in the tumble dryer!) so I think that would also protect the foam.

Naturegirl82 · 21/01/2015 13:08

Just noticed all my spelling mistakes in my previous posts Blush that will teach me to type quickly and not proof read! Oops

Zampa · 21/01/2015 13:22

Thanks Nature. The one we bought is 3 months old (have receipt) and we plan to thoroughly clean it before use. I just getting really anxious about everything! Ended up in tears the other night in case baby gets bullied at school!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 21/01/2015 13:35

Zampa I cried last night as a friend sent me a recipe for homemade courgette burgers that she said her DD (same age as mine) loves. At the time I was feeding DD scrambled egg on toast as I had been feeling crap all day and didn't have the energy to make anything else. Cried on DH that I was a bad mother and DD deserved better. These pregnancy hormones have a lot to answer for!

broodylicious · 21/01/2015 13:42

We had dd parent facing til about six months in her pushchair then spun her around. She was happy with either way as she could see everything, I just wouldn't have felt comfortable with her not being able to see me at such an early age, particularly if we were in town or somewhere busy. We borrowed the carrycot from DH's bestie but in all honesty, dd hated it and screamed herself silly every time she was in there so that's why we ended up with a sling.

We will be using a crib next to my bed for this bubba and he/she will be in our room for at least six months, possibly nine. I plan on bfing again and there's not a chance on earth I'm trudging into another room every 90 minutes to feed. As you probably know by now, I'm a worrier by nature so the SIDs thing would play on my mind too (despite my nephew and a good friend's baby both being in their own rooms from a week old and being perfectly fine!)

You're so right about not ever being prepared enough for the whole "reality" of parenthood in those first few weeks nature! Eek. We know what we are doing as well! Gluttons for punishment? So worth it though, hey?Smile

Naturegirl82 · 21/01/2015 13:46

broody I'll remind you of that at 3 in the morning after no sleep in a few months! Haha! Well it really can't be all bad otherwise nobody would do it again!

I'm the same, bf and can't be arsed moving out of bed! We didn't move dd till 10 months but that was because of building work rather than any want to keep her with us that long. I would have moved her a bit sooner otherwise.

naty1 · 21/01/2015 13:48

Nothing wrong with scrambled eggs, protein, vit D, amino acids.
Probably better than corguette burgers.

Jenbird5891 · 21/01/2015 13:49

Anyone know if it's ok for newborns to sleep in carrycots rather than Moses basket? We're thinking of investing in bugaboo donkey twin as there's not much other choice for twins. I'm thinking if they share a cot in our room at night and then I can keep them sleeping in the day in the pram carrycot then no need for baskets too? Obv wouldn't leave them in car seats for long periods but seems crazy to need Moses baskets too?! Especially when ur looking at buying two of everything! Xx

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 21/01/2015 13:49

We moved DD at 5 months as she was such a noisy sleeper and I'm an insomniac! However I then worried so much that DH ended up sleeping on her floor and bringing her to me when she needed a bf in the night. Best of both worlds for me Wink

Naturegirl82 · 21/01/2015 13:51

Jen it depends on the carry cot. I think they are suitable for naps during the day but only some are suitable for overnight. It is to do with the ventiliation. So I guess it would depend how long they would be sleeping in there during the day.

StoneBaby · 21/01/2015 13:52

nature no I wasn't too worried about it. I only went to check he was breathing when I was going to bed. I was up every 4 hours ish to feed him (bottle fed). The think is that he was (and still is) a noisy sleeper. He is a Feb baby so it was pretty cold getting up but we wrapped up in blankets while he was feeding.

Zampa · 21/01/2015 13:58

Jen Have you looked at the 2015 Uppababy Vista? Suitable for two and the bassinets are ventilated so can be used overnight.

SophieBarringtonWard · 21/01/2015 14:01

DC1 was in with us for 9 months, DC2 was about 4 months. I am not sure about this one. DH has seen some SIDS babies brought into the hospital recently, so I expect we will keep baby in with me us until 6 months again as the risk seems more real, if that makes sense.

number3 I won't get a travel system. Still haven't decided what to get though!

Number3cometome · 21/01/2015 14:08

Baby will be in with me, probably in my bed!

Neither myself or OH are smokers or drinkers, and this is what I did with my other two.

My friend (who is in labour right now!) has said I can have her bedside crib she has bought for her child (he child will be moving in to his big cot by the time I need it)

It's like one of those ones they have in hospital?

I've never used a moses basket, my sister had one for DN and she accidentally picked up one handle instead of two resulting in DN flopping on the floor - don't worry she was absolutely fine. Although it took my sister a while to get over that episode!!

StoneBaby · 21/01/2015 14:12

number my moses basket is on a stand and doesn't move unless it's empty. I'm so clumsy I could do something like your sister
