broody I love silent witness! We don't have a TV though so I watch everything on iplayer the day after :) in fact just about to watch part I o silent witness from yesterday :) in bed as I am knackered! Bless DH is getting the dinner on

broodylicious · 20/01/2015 18:49

Yeah we do have iplayer and sky plus so wouldn't be a problem for me to record or watch tomorrow (I do record corrie and Enders because that's when I'm putting dd to bed) but I get so gripped by silent witness in particular, I have to watch it when it's on! I spent all of last Tuesday wondering about last week's Monday episode and counting the hours down to find out the ending (which I hadn't at all guessed btw!)

olympicsrock · 20/01/2015 19:04

Thanks Broody. Didn't have an ergo carrier at the beginning. We used a Tomy one or a sling. To be honest these were not that supportive and I had backache after 3 months when i used them so could only use them for short walks. Then tried my sister's ergo at 6 months. Completely different and much easier. I would buy the new born insert this time.

broodylicious · 20/01/2015 19:47

Fab stuff olympics. We had a close caboo sling to start with but I didn't think it supported my back at all (always suffered with back issues after years of horses!) so as soon as we could, we changed to the Bjorn carrier with super back support. I liked it but now I'm more aware of hip placement, it's not what I'd use for forward facing carrying anymore - hence the interest in the Ergo.

Ceejay14 · 20/01/2015 20:42

Broody I love silent witness! No chance of watching it here though as DH has just got a new tv and is like a child with a new toy Hmm

WiIdfire · 20/01/2015 21:19

Just wondering if anyone has used a silver cross pioneer buggy/travel system, as thats what Im leaning towards...?

Thepurplegiraffe · 20/01/2015 21:53

Another Silent Witness fan here but will also be watching it on catch up.

Wildfire we have the wayfarer which is the predecessor of the pioneer and I really like it. And the pioneer looks better, can't justify buying it again though...

Luckystar82 · 20/01/2015 22:06

BadIdeaBear yep you're right! The main drawback of the Baby Jogger CIty Mini is that it's not parent facing, however if you buy the carrycot it is but only lasts 6 months. It's a compromise I'm willing to make especially because it has peekaboo windows for parent and rest of the buggy is better than other, more expensive buggies. I'm buying the larger deluxe carrycot (£170) but the compact carrycot is only £89. You can also buy second hand from ebay (they don't get heavy use).

GingerBread I read so many reviews of ergobaby slings, mainly US ones. Lots of people said they didn't get a bad back from carrying the ergo for hours, whereas they did with baby bjorn which I'd the other big sling seller. The wrap ones wouldn't suit my needs so I want a structured sling.

Very good idea going to a sling library - will check to see if we have one here!

I'm going to find out sex and tell people. Have a girls name but struggling to identify a boys name!

247babyonthebrain · 21/01/2015 06:50

Morning all. Try this site to see if you can find a sling library near you

ukslinglibraries.wordpress.com/find-a-sling-library-near-you/

Also for anyone in London there is a Baby Show at the Excel the weekend of the 20-22nd Feb! Thought it might be good to get an idea of what I need to buy and hopefully see and try out some prams and other products!

Think we are going to find out the sex but then keep it to ourselves!

14 weeks today :)

Fleurchamp · 21/01/2015 07:54

Baby show? I might "treat" DH to a ticket for his birthday Grin

247babyonthebrain · 21/01/2015 08:19

Tickets are £14.95 and grandparents go for £11.95! My DH is very reluctantly accompanying me his mother and his sister lol! Think I might need to treat him to a curry after!!

Number3cometome · 21/01/2015 08:38

Morning ladies, had footy last night and didn't get to bed until midnight, absolutely shattered today! Could sleep at my desk !

14+3

Catlover2014 · 21/01/2015 08:40

Hi ladies,

Just saying hello. Had my 16 week mw appointment on Monday and heard baby's hb

Catlover2014 · 21/01/2015 08:42

Sorry pressed send too soon! Risk of Down syndrome has come back as low and all my bloods are fine. Can't quite believe it still.

Started work on the nursery room now, gutting all the old fitted furniture and sanding the walls.

Today I am 16+6 Smile

Zampa · 21/01/2015 09:30

The Baby Show is also going to be in Birmingham and there is The Baby and Toddler Show held at Manchester and Sandown Park.

BadIdeaBear · 21/01/2015 09:40

Bloody awful night's sleep (DH too, so it became hard to know who was keeping who awake!) and woke up to horrible slush stuff falling everywhere. DH sent text saying his cycle ride was horrible and I should wfh if I could. But I can't... Sad

luckystar yeah, I saw someone in town with the BJ and noticed the peep holes! That sounds like a plan - the second hand carry cot for 6 months or so... think I'm not so bothered about baby facing the world by then anyway! Thanks for advice!

And it's now the Ergo at the top of my list thanks to numerous conversations here too, so useful for the ever-growing list of a ftm!!

Raines100 · 21/01/2015 10:03

Hi

I got my down's result back as low risk, but it also came with a letter saying my blood tests showed I'm no longer immune to Rubella Confused. I have to be re-vaccinated once the baby's born, and I have to cross my fingers I don't catch it before I'm 20 wks, or it can harm the baby. I wish they could have done the bloods before I got pregnant. The doc knew we were trying.

I have a date for 20 wk scan now- 11th March! We will find out the sex, as DH will spontaneously combust with the anticipation if not. Will probably tell close family and anyone that asks, but won't announce on FB.

Most people know our girls name, as it's what we would have called DS1&2. As for boys names, we are clueless. Keep threatening to let the kids choose. They're suggestions aren't bad, really. Ben (10), Peter (Rabbit), Thomas (the tank engine), or Percy, Gordon, Fat Controller...

Naturegirl82 · 21/01/2015 10:09

With regard to the rear facing / forward facing prams it is entirely a personal decision. But something to think about, while carry cots do say till 6 months most babies will have outgrown them before then, so you need to consider how you feel about your baby forward facing from 4/5 months.

I've still got DD parent facing at 1 year. I like being able to chat to her as we walk around (except at the zoo when I turn her forward facing). She had to be moved into her seat at 4 months as she was too long for the carry cot anymore (and our carry cot was one of the largest available I think), and that felt too early to switch to forward facing at that point for me. I really should accept that DD will need to be turned round soon though Sad

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 21/01/2015 10:10

Raines that happened to me in my last pregnancy. I had the MMR when DD was 2 weeks old, just had my bloods back this time and thankfully have retained my immunity this time (I had had all my MMR/boosters as a child so don't know why I wasn't immune).

Fleurchamp · 21/01/2015 10:22

I only had my MMR last year - my parents didn't give me any of my baby jabs as my sister was very ill when she had them (allergic reaction) and they didn't want to take the risk with me.

DH made me get them as we were going on a few trips to places at high risk. Pleased I did now!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 21/01/2015 10:36

Nature I have still got DD rear facing at 14 months Blush. I just like to chat to her as we're walking. DH keeps asking when I'm going to turn her round, I will soon! DD was in her carrycot until 6 months though, she was a bit squished but she would only ever nap when I took her out in the pram so I wanted her to be completely flat for as long as possible. The carry cot is quite big on the uppababy vista.

Thepurplegiraffe · 21/01/2015 10:43

I agree with Nature re carry cots, dd was out of hers by 3 or 4 months, not just because of size but because she wanted to look around. By 5 or 6 months she was happier forward facing (which I was sad about) but I'm not sure what I would have done for the in between months. Saying that we are going to have to get a double buggy this time so we probably won't have the parent facing option.

Number3cometome · 21/01/2015 10:47

It is just me? I'm not getting a travel system, mine will be a straight forward facing buggy (probably like a £90 McClaren one)

We spend a lot of the time in the car, so buggy won't get a lot of use.

We are planning on buying a decent car seat so will spending more on that than the buggy I imagine.

I will be buying one of those baby carrier things (you know where baby goes on your chest) as I am having a c-section. I found it much easier with my last two.

Naturegirl82 · 21/01/2015 11:07

Number I love my sling. Baby will definitely be in that for some time. We got a travel system last time as it suited our purpose but I don't think it is essential. I'm not planning on changing my pram for a double (may get the rumble seat to add on) so it will be pram and sling for a while for me. Not sure what I am going to do when walking the dog on the beach though! Hopefully DD1 will have enough stamina to walk there by herself by that point. Or Dh can carry DD1 in sling and I'll have little squish Smile

Gotto we have the vista as well, but DD1 was on the 91st centile for length so got squashed even in that quite quickly! I was reluctant to move her into the pram seat as it's not suitable from birth but I got the newborn inserts which make it more suitable and DD had really good head control really early on so it wasn't a worry. I did keep her lying flat though (even after she could sit by herself - a bit pfb ha!). I love that the vista carry cot can be used for overnight sleeping as well. Made it so much easier when we went to visit people. I really don't want to turn DD1 around yet. She is happy still parent facing and can still see loads because of the height and angle so I'm not worried about that. Are you going to get a new mattress for your carry cot for this little one?

Number3cometome · 21/01/2015 11:20

Ok so my friend is in labour arghh!!!
She is 40+4 today, she text me last night to say she was feeling periody etc, feeling light pains every 30 mins.

Then 5am this morning, she said she had a show, then another one, and then was 8-10 mins apart lasting 30 seconds.

She just text me now, contractions are 3 mins apart, lasting 30 seconds?
She said it feels like painful period pains but belly is not getting tight and she can cope.

She is at home at the moment, I thought she would be in more pain?!!
