Oooh! Congrats!

Hello again

Have been to see the midwife, she said the same as me about the liquid that came out, if it'd have been anything to worry about, we'd have known by now. BP fine, she said I am measuring big again, but I was thinking about this, surely if the baby isn't engaged yet, I am going to be measuring bigger?

She is coming out next week to see me at home to go through everything completely about the hombirth, but ran through a few of the basics today. Basically stuff I already knew, but the main thing is that they will let me birth at home from 37 weeks, so (by their dates, which I suppose I should start following now) that gives me two weeks to put off the labour, and to wait for sex! LOL

And I have just had a chat with my mum, it sounds like they had an awful holiday, hotel falling apart, food (they went all inclusive) was shocking - something about the same tray of sprouts being served up for dinner, then breakfast then lunch the next day! And on top of that the weather, they had a tornado...!

Charlee - hopefully things will get moving for you now

mygirllolipop - Ive had 2 scans, one on 30 and the other on 34 weeks. I had them because on my 20 week scan the baby was showing big so it was suggested by the hospital that I have 2 growth scans to see how the baby was progressing... Both scans have shown all the measurements including the head to be above the 95th centile so have to be refered to the consultant.... Apparently he/she will reccomend either inducing or cesarian depending on what they think!!

hello everyone!

NJ great idea but this person keeps dissappearing as an ebay user after buying the item, so obv keeps making new accounts so we cant ban them as its always different user, its jsut a real pain!

well walked into town with dd, she was great and managed to walk all the way for me (around 2 miles) as the parcel was in the buggy! other than the immense pain on the way home (felt like a constant contraction, and there was nothing i could do about it just had to get home, it was a good trip. managed to finally get our marriage certificate back from our solicitors (who were changing dhs name for our title deeds) so now dh can go ahead and change his name with his banks etc so he will officially have the same surname as me and dd (and little lump too!)

well except when im doing something to aggravate the contractions (walking standing etc) they seem to have calmed down. keeping an eye (or should i say finger ) on my cervix so i know when abouts things are getting started!!

got tutoring tomo and havnt even thought about it yet, gotta get a lesson plan together i suppose!

saralou100 · 25/10/2006 15:32

hi guys!! i slept so well last night! not wanting to rub it in, but i didn't even hear ds when he woke up, but dp did, and he's deaf! still woke up knackered though!
christmas shopping all done.. pretty much rowed with dp the entire way round! the joy of taking men shopping, why do it?? so now it just needs wrapping - my least favourite part of christmas!

nj-glad you enjoyed your madwife appointment! this lo hasn't bothered to engage yet, and i'm starting to measure smaller.. at 34+4 i was only 33cm.

mygirl - i always wind myself up before mil gets here for a visit! hope your pil are well behaved for your sake! pg hormones don't help at these times!! (i walked out of a restaurant when she was here last week to stop my self killing her)

kif - i had ds's baby photo's out the other day.. totally agree on forgetting how tiny they were! i get freaked out by the size of their clothes too!

tinasan - hope your days going well.. roll on more baby news!

charlee - nesting and a show today.. hopefully somethings starting for you!!

Oooh thanks for the update Mygirl - my midwife is supposed to be coming round soon with mine as am 36+6 now but they dont seem too worried whether or not they bring it round or just turn up with it on the day. Was curious to know what was going to be in it though - bit scary as you say!

MyGirl, just how big is that maternity tampon??? :O Thanks for the list though, it does sound very scary. I wonder why they need name tags for a home birth? I am starting to wonder if I don't remember anything from last time that is best forgotten now!!!

Stacey it is amazing how similar your experiences have been to mine! The first week or so of these contractions sent everything spinning and things really got hard for a bit, but now they have just become a part of the bigger picture, I am getting on with it now. At one point I was sat in the living room with DH after DS had gone to bed and I just cried my eyes out, I couldn't imagining being able to get through a week of them let alone 8! Here we are only another week down the line and things just don't seem so gloomy! I am still shattered but 2 hours sleep (or there abouts) a night doesn't make you feel like a spring chicken!! I think concentrating on this home birth has really helped actually, I am spending most of the night reading up on it all and reading others experiences of it all, and it has really taking the strain off about childcare which I think in turn has made the contractions more bearable. Just try to keep your chin up, keep as relaxed as you can, and do as little as you can get away with. Hopefully it won't carry on for you much longer now.

NatalieJane · 25/10/2006 16:39

Sara, hmm, maybe my theory of the baby not being engaged and so therefore stuck out more is wrong then?!

MyGirl, the midwife I saw today said when they bring the birthing packs, they bring all of the drugs they would need including the gas and air and oxygen in case the baby needs it after the birth, but she said I would need to get a prescription from the GP if I wanted pethdine, which I don't so that doesn't matter! She said when they bring the packs they will show me where to keep all of the drugs safely and stuff.

Oh no does that mean we will have canisters of gas and air before the labour - I am going to have my work cut out tryng to keep that from DH, he is dying to try it!

NatalieJane · 25/10/2006 16:47

I had three internal stitches where DS's nails scratched me (little bugger came out with his hand next to his head!) but I don't remember the tampon, not that my head was in any fit state to remember much! LOL

40weeks, my first thought was where the hell am I going to hide them from DH/DS!! LOL We brought a helium thing for balloons once, I don't think one balloon got blown up!

No, that is what I mean Mygirl, m/w said today that they bring it all at the same time, because she made a point of saying she would show us how to keep them safely.

Not that it really matters, it will all only go up in the babies room until it is all needed!

CattyB · 25/10/2006 17:15

Think its great that your madwifes go on call at 37 weeks - not that I've ever been early but its 38 weeks here. Due on Fri and I too get to join the gang with the show - a wee bit this morning - know I shouldn't get excited but I'm hoping this might not mean I'll be two weeks over - hurrah. Was feeling slightly niggely on the walk to and from school but despite coming home and having a bit of a barny with Scottish Hydro (for completely @rseing up my bill from my previous house - I apparantly owe them £600 (which I don't) - at this rate they can get £2 a month for the next 25 years ) nothing happening. Will get DH to fill the pool tonight just in case (its the type with a filter and heater so will keep) esp as he's away in Ireland all day tomorrow - great timing!

ps pressed some buttons on the mac and now the writing is tiny - any one any idea how to make it big again? Its only on this page (I'm using firefox). Thanks

CattyB · 25/10/2006 17:17

And they don't bring any drugs

NatalieJane · 25/10/2006 17:24

Catty, I can't believe how different the treatment is that you receive depending on your postcode, but, in some aspects I can understand it in hospitals (some hospitals will have more facilities than others so would be able to offer more for e.g.) but you would have thought that a homebirth, it would be pretty much the same throughout the whole country, obviously not, we have already seen that Mygirl's m/ws bring some of things with them on the day, whereas mine have said it all comes at once, and then the difference on the on-call weeks, and some of the stories I have heard about how people have had to fight for a homebirth have been very full on, I turn up say I want one, and they sort it out! And the only differences are where you live.
Seems like madness to me!

Hopefully your show will amount to something

CattyB · 25/10/2006 17:52

Guess each team of mw's has to work out whats best for that area. We have a relatively high homebirth rate here (amongst the highest in Scotland) so guess it just would be too much oncall if they were to take women from 37 weeks. We can get our GP to prescribe diamorph/pethadine if desired but the mw are understandably quite reluctant to give it at home.
On the gases thing the bottles are here but the connectors are carried by the mw - to make sure there is still some left by the time labour starts . Entonox must be quite fun if you're not actually in need of it...

Evening ladies and babies

Im so bored this evening no Eastenders to keep me busy! I have however got off my arse and ordered LO's nappies from Cotton Bottoms so will have to dig out the wraps and liners from ds's room tommorrow.

I have my Renal scan tommorrow so should know about the stones one way or another. If i don;t have stones the consultants think that the baby's kicking the crap out my kidneys causing the blood in my urine.

DP's attacking the washing machine as Comet claim they wont give us a new one untill they can deem our's unfixable! They have already been out 5 feckin times!
