I tried different bedding that she chose and some I thought she'd like still doesn't help. She is 3 and a half so I can't put her in a toddler bed really as they are only supposed to last till she's 5. I have looked at all sorts of beds from cabin to bunk. But really can't decide what's the best way to go.

smogsville · 27/12/2014 19:29

Funny leaking story.

DD was two weeks old. I was eating lunch and realised something on my top half was wet. Convinced there was a leak from the ceiling. Got DH up on a chair to check.

Then realised it was a massive milk leak - I'd forgotten to put a breast pad in. Big round dark damp circle around nipple area!

Have always found Bravissimo good. Mine are quite big so I can't just wear cheap bras or ones that don't fit properly as I get terrible backache.

Hope everyone's having a lovely festive season and that anyone who's having to go into work is secretly enjoying the family respite Wink

BananaToast · 27/12/2014 20:12

Second timers, is it worth buying any nursing bras before your milk comes in if sizing is so variable? Or will I struggle without one for the first few days?

I've just ordered some up to 1 month size sleepsuits from eBay brand new with tags - some with dinosaurs and some with cars, my first non-unisex buys! Going to buy a pack of newborn bodysuits and then that will do us for clothes I think. We've got a few bits in 0-3 months but don't want to buy too many things as I imagine people will buy clothes as gifts, I always do.

Baby is giving me a good kicking this evening, sitting here smiling to myself watching my belly ripple. So in love already Smile

Siarie · 27/12/2014 20:21

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas, we got lots of presents for the baby. Play mat, high chair, rocker, vouchers (which I've ordered loads lots of bottles etc with) I also bought the prep machine from tomme tipper as I expect I'll formula feed due to health reason. We ordered the dresser and lots storage organisers for that. We're trying to make use of the sales, which so far has been great.

I'm knackered now though and about to go to sleep!

Siarie · 27/12/2014 20:22

Lol that's meant to be Tommee Tippee

smogsville · 27/12/2014 20:28

Banana I defo had a couple ready and didn't have to change them. I reckon if you are keen on BFing they are useful.

Then again, you'll presumably be at home for first few days after birth, so wouldn't actually need nursing bras you could just feed without wearing a bra which they say is better, lots of skin to skin contact and so on. I did loads of feeding with nothing on my top half when DD newborn and in just a nappy.

Then again, you may not want to go out and try on bras in first few days.

So overall my very long-winded advice would be buy a couple!

Hidingthefear · 27/12/2014 20:43

ooo Bonjour that's what i've been wearing, got a grey one and a beige one and they are by far the comfiest thing I own!!

No Bravisimo, (or however you spell it) near me Brixton

I used to get mine from Victoria Secret (but now they don't do my size, biggest cup is a DDD coz they are American), Boux Avenue and Anne Summers were always good fits but don't o Nursing Bra's from what i've seen.cinnamon I assume you meant Morther Care, but the one near me doesn't even have a changing room :( they were the first place i thought of. will Try M&S Lauren and see if the one near me offers bra fitting. Maybe just get a couple in prep for April like Smog suggests and get more if needed later on. Suppose it all depends on if BF goes well.

Will defo be giving it a go measuring myself now i think stuntnun ... hmm now where did i put my tape measure... hmmm do i even own a tape measure :/ copied and pasted to my desktop to use later : )

cinnamongreyhound · 27/12/2014 20:46

I'd definitely have at least one to wear BananaToast as not everyone changes size so dramatically but wait until 34+ weeks or as late as you dare!

cinnamongreyhound · 27/12/2014 20:48

Yes mothercare blimmin autocorrect! Would strong advise against m&s for bra fitting from previous experience but you may find a competent fitter.

Roseylee20 · 27/12/2014 21:01

Hi again everyone! Hope you all had a nice relaxing Christmas. Mines been ok but slightly stressful due to my partners family. If I go into detail I would end up making a whole new thread! Wish we could just move away from them all - (does a big sigh.)
Is there anyone else on here who aren't even remotely ready - or is it just me? I'm 23+5, with my first (a boy!) , we live in a 2 bed flat (one bedroom being his 5yo daughters) and aren't planning on moving until after baby is here as we would really like to buy if possible. So my baby won't have his own room. More and more people are asking us "ooh have you started getting the nursery ready yet?". We haven't bought a single thing yet! (Mainly because we wanted to find out the gender first- we opened our gender envelope on Xmas day). We are hoping to buy bits and pieces in the January sales. Everything is going to have to go into our bedroom- which we still need to sort out properly!- including the cot. Had to research a list on the internet this week- Emma's diary website- as to what we will need! Like I said he has a little girl but wasn't allowed much access when she was a baby as they had split up in the pregnancy- so he's pretty much a first timer as am I! X

I did try M&S early on in my bra wearing days and honestly i didn't like them as the woman was useless and tried telling me I was a 32E, which seen as I was about a size 6 and 7stone wet through (ah them were the days, I was only 16 and had Zero figure hence the small size!) she was well off the mark.I think they just told skinny girls a bigger bra size so they wanted to buy a bra. I ended up at LaSenza and was a 30C, which was a lovely fit. But i'd be willing to give M&S another go now and we have a big new store near us.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 27/12/2014 21:12

I hate that "getting the nursery ready?" question.. first kid I was being made homeless so didn't even know where we would be living (long story, not going into it)
second child we were all of us sleeping in the same room
and this one... we do have a spare room but ffs baby will be sleeping within breathing distance of me for the first year so no, I won't be doing a nursery. When she's old enough she'll have a bedroom (unless her big brothers WANT to share with her too) but I won't be wasting time and money on nursery furnishings, I've learned how little I actually need for her.
(clothing, nappies, somewhere for her to sleep, boob/bottle&steriliser, car seat, buggy)

on another note, is anyone else noticing they've started to waddle? or am I early for that?

Hidingthefear · 27/12/2014 21:17

rosey maybe if your moving afterwards it's best not to buy loads of stuff. I imagine baby would be in your room for a while anyway so you could prob get away with it for a bit.
a second timer on here might be able to help with an essentials list.
We have a nursery etc but only because my Mum kindly paid for the furniture otherwise we would have been very stuck, or racking up Credit card debt! so we are very lucky. still loads that we don't have though like a moses basket, baby bath, bottles etc but we've ages yet haven't we Hmm

Thanks hiding and ebwy. I don't feel as alone now! Feel so naive when we have to say erm.. Well no haven't bought a single thing yet! I've still got to learn about the whole sleeping thing.. Heard so many different things about cots.. how much bedding you should or shouldn't have for a cot.. A Moses basket.. People saying of course you will need one.. Other people not liking them. I just want to know what we need! Like, what will the baby actually sleep in in the first few weeks/months? Anyone new reading this, read my comment above as I explain why baby will be in our bedroom until we move. As a first time mum you read and hear so many contradicting things! X

BananaToast · 27/12/2014 21:42

Thanks all, will plan to buy one or two nursing bras in the last month or so then. My boobs haven't changed much in pregnancy so far - 32DD to 34DD - so maybe they will also change less than some peoples later on. Definitely keen to breast feed so bras and lansinoh cream were the only feeding related items I was planning to buy before the birth. Figure I can always pop out (or send DH) for anything else I need as and when I need it.

BananaToast · 27/12/2014 21:43

Oh and I haven't started waddling yet but DH has been calling me Waddles in anticipation of it. Still not that big though so able to do everything as normal.

BrixtonBunny · 27/12/2014 21:46

Rosey that sounds stressful, but try not to let others interfering get you down - it sounds like you have a good plan, and as others have said baby will be in with you at the beginning anyway.

I'm not in the same situation as you, but I can sympathise a bit as DP and I currently live in a 1 bedroom rented flat - we're in the process of buying our first house but it's taking forever and will need some work before we can move in (if we ever exchange!) so am starting to reconcile myself that baby will likely be born whilst we're still living here (and we may have to move house with a newborn Confused). Trying not to fret about it though and just telling myself many people go through much worse.

Yay squatting. DD went to sleep pretty quickly but woke at 8.30 and I had to sit with her for about 20mins as she was doing that confused crying thing. Where she isn't really awake but something is bothering her. Been up to check on her twice and she's snoring away, so far so good. Smile

Baby is very active tonight bobbling away in there. Had a few more BHs earlier on.

cinnamongreyhound · 27/12/2014 21:51

That's because everyone does it differently RoseyLee20! Ours were in their own room in a full sized cot from the first night home. Both were big enough to go straight into grobags and that's what they slept in with nothing else in their cots until they went into beds. We had a holiday when ds1 was almost 1 in a caravan in the snow in March and he had a duvet under him and one over his grobag and that was the only time he needed anything else to sleep under or on. There already so many different opinions on this small thread that it shows you have to go with your gut and do what suits you and your oh. Some things you kind of have a feel for after reading around before baby is here and others you won't know until you have you lo in your arms and know more about them and yourself as a mother.

Hidingthefear · 27/12/2014 21:54

Ahh Rosey glad to hear someone else is as confused as me. The ladies in our thread have been brill though! I've been here since early on and it's nice to hear from real people and not just Mr Google!
Baby will be sleeping with us for the first few months for sure, maybe until 6 moths old but will see how we feel once were actually doing it. (for me it will depend on how night times are going) A friend told me of someone they knew who could afford very little and instead of a moses basket their bundle of joy slept in a suitcase!! (not zipped up of course) I guess you make do with what you have. I always try and think of what my parents or grandparents would have done when I try and think if something is essential or not.
My mum said seen as he will be born in the spring he's likely to just sleep in nappy, vest/baby grow and a blanket and won't be needing duvet etc for a while so i've not bothered buying bedding for the Cot in his room for now (although if i see something nice on sale then I may end up buying haha)

No waddling here just yet. Have been having heart palpitations and getting out of breath just recently but apparently that's fairly normal and I shouldn't worry. even if i'm just sat on the couch doing nothing :/

Hidingthefear · 27/12/2014 21:57

v good advice there cinnamon ! i'm trying to keep an open mind on everything and maybe some sort of maternal urge will kick in and i'll just do what I feel is best. Just from reading these threads all babies are different and what works for one doesn't always work for another, so i'll expect nothing of him and we'll figure it out together (I mean baby not DH lol (although I guess same rule applies haha)

Rosey you are not alone at all -another first timer here confused about everything I do or don't need! Agree about the conflicting advice making things more difficult as well - but it's really useful to hear everyone's different experiences on here, thanks ladies Smile. I had planned on getting a Moses basket for baby to sleep in next to our bed for the first few months, but seem to only hear bad things about how babies don't sleep in them! Which I'm sure is not the case for everyone but has now got me wondering about the snuzpod instead - but still don't quite understand about blankets/sleeping bags. Am I right in thinking that sleeping bags are best from a few months old? I've got a cellular blanket and a swaddle wrap which I think should be enough for use in the Moses basket/crib, but a lot of this is just guessing Blush. I think what I'm gathering is there isn't really a right or wrong answer to all of this!

Active baby here too and I've been having BH's since 20 weeks (26+1 today) - they panicked me at first as a good friend delivered at 27 weeks after what she thought were BHs... However midwife assures me it's normal as long as they aren't more than uncomfortable!
