welcome JL !!

catsofa · 23/12/2014 12:23

Hi folks! Thanks for the new thread.

Just marking my place before I go out to collect a cot I won yesterday on ebay. It was £19 and is real wood and suitable from birth to 4 years, it looks lovely. Have to walk there and get a taxi back with it, so desperately hoping it will actually fit in a taxi... and that I carry it!

Wineandchoccy · 23/12/2014 12:36

Welcome to the April Gang JL

What a bargain Catsofa practice your best smile for the taxi driver so he will help you Smile

Be careful catsofa wheb trying to lug the cot about. They are heavier than you think! Hopefully you will get a nice taxi driver to help you.
When we collected our crib (bargainous £15 via Gumtree) I underestimated how heavy and big it was - glad I had OH to do most of the lifting!

smogsville · 23/12/2014 13:09

Catsofa - make sure it's obvious you're prego and hopefully taxi driver will be gallant. Well done on your purchase by the way! Bargain.

Squatting - great news on the prodigal sister and her biscuits.

Daholster - I think I may have what you have after all after a weird experience earlier. What Nunkie said basically. All about the panty liners.

The Christmas wine order has gone to parents' house (in Brighton) instead of ours (north London). As the rents are already up here there's no way anyone's driving to fetch it. It's quite nice not to really care!

Right time for my Pret Christmas sarnie.

brummagem · 23/12/2014 13:23

Place marking

Age 39. 1st baby. Team Blue. 2 cats. 1 dog. 1 husband.

I'm busy trying to sweat out my 5th cold since conception. It's awful as they all end up on my chest and I spend weeks hacking everywhere and overdosing on inhalers. Bump should have lungs of steel with all these steroids perfect for screaming with. As DH and I were both amazing sleepers as babies you can guarantee our offspring will be up every 2 hours!

It's been horrible to read about the family and friends trauma and missing cat. I hope things get better for you. Sad

I'm getting royally pummelled by bump which is great but unexpected as I too have an anterior placenta. It's also low lying and have been advised not to do anything strenuous. Is eating Cake considered strenuous? I'd go swimming but would need motivation for that. Maybe I'll get some for Christmas.

Has anyone else exploded bumpwise? I had a beautiful neat package that looked like too many pies and now I look properly pregnant to the degree the DH now affection calls me hippo (all I see then is the Reginald Perrin mother in law scene Grin). It's now playing havoc with my breathing which isn't ideal when singing in the choir! It's our busiest period atm too!

I hope you all have a fabulous time over the festive period am very much looking forward to our last quiet Christmas. Will have an 8mth old next year! Eek! Shock

TheBooMonster · 23/12/2014 14:15

Midwife all done and dusted cracks out the Eisberg next seeing her at 29 weeks (because I already have a scan at 28 weeks) she's happy with bumps size so all is good... Though my 37 week induction is looking less and less likely...

smogsville · 23/12/2014 14:36

Office overeating fail.

Kinder bueno
Wodges of panettone/ pandoro
Advent chocs
Mini biscuits
Hummingbird bakery red velvet cupcake

On top of normal lunch obvs.

I feel a bit... peculiar.

BrixtonBunny · 23/12/2014 15:26

Smogs that sounds like a massive win to me, not a fail Grin

Brixton I actually feel dizzy from all the sugar. Going to be mainly drinking tea and weeing this afternoon. Really need to get a grip so my appetite is primed for Christmas Day.

JontyDoggle37 · 23/12/2014 15:54

Afternoon, new poster on this thread, due end April, age 37, one husband, one dog, two horses, no other children. 21+6.
I seem to have hit a low point at the moment, feeling very dreary and sad. Probably a bad combination of pregnancy hormones, not sleeping well (awake at 4am most days now), a very stressful work period just before finishing for Christmas, and starting to feel like a right heffalump and not able to exercise much because I'm so breathless. I'm annoying myself I'm so down, and DH keeps asking if I'm ok and of there's anything he can do. I'm going to try and make a plan this evening for how to get me out of the doldrums this evening, starting with doing a proper walk tomorrow, even if it is slow. I'm in search of the happy hormones mentioned by a previous poster!

Roseylee20 · 23/12/2014 16:13

Hello everyone! Just wanted to add myself;
Currently 23+1.
Finding out gender which we have written in an envelope (from the hospital) on Christmas Day! Very excited. X

kismac · 23/12/2014 16:18

Welcome JL, Brum and Jonty!

Good news on your MW appointment, Boo.

Jonty, my happy hormones have only just reappeared after feeling really sorry for myself for a few weeks. I'm hoping they stay as I was really horribly grumpy. I wouldn't beat yourself up about feeling a bit low. Pregnancy is tough going. Hopefully, once the stress of Christmas is out the way you'll start to perk up.

kismac · 23/12/2014 16:19

Oh Rosey, that's a lovely idea. We decided not to find out, but kinda wish we had now. I can't seem to get excited about buying baby clothes and that's probably cause yellow seems very dull to me. I've got a growth scan on 6th Jan, so might ask then.

TheBooMonster · 23/12/2014 17:16

kis I have an irrational hatred for yellow, with DD we didn't find out but I found plenty in bright rainbow colours and greens, it's one of the few times we shopped at next (but a family member did give us an insane amount in vouchers for next) and we found some baby grows with a rainbow farm yard print, so it's possible to find nice unisex stuff if you're determined. Also check out babies r us olive and Henri stuff which tends to be more green than yellow.

BrixtonBunny · 23/12/2014 17:19

Welcome to newbies on the thread! Lovely to see some new faces Smile

We had some good news today - DPs work have agreed to him working a nine-day fortnight, starting when he gets back from paternity leave! So he'll be off one day every other week, without losing any pay. Very happy. He plans to then use this as a stepping stone to doing a four-day week when I go back to work in April 2016.

He's taking two weeks paternity leave, and adding on two weeks of annual leave, so will be off a month from the birth. What are your DPs and DHs doing?

Feeling awful today, still so dizzy and my ear is killing me. Have been off work today and yesterday and feeling guilty about that too - right before Christmas! Such bad timing Hmm Oh and I also have a very sexy cold sore.

24+6 x

Jonty sorry you're feeling sad, making a plan sounds like a fab idea though - it's likely to help you feel much more in control. We're here whenever you need a moan or some moral support though Thanks

Welcome JLcoffeetableIKEAshelves, JontyDoggle37 and RoseyLee20!

She just has two of you to worry about in the same place Nunkie! I didn't get on with the app, mobile site however is fab.

That must mean you can open pressies when you get home LadyNovember Xmas Wink

StuntNun · 23/12/2014 17:58

Lauren pain in the bum can mean the baby is pressing on the sciatic nerve.

My bladder seems to be holding up fine especially considering this is my fourth child. I'm crediting that to the Pilates I was doing before getting pregnant as it's really good for the core and pelvic floor. I actually woke up last night panicking that I couldn't be pregnant as I wasn't waking up to pee then realised that I could feel the baby kicking so I probably was pregnant after all.

22+1 with baby boy number four.

BananaToast · 23/12/2014 18:02

Hi JL, Jonty and Rosey. Love the idea of finding out on xmas day - I couldn't have held out that long!

Good news about DH's job Brixton, not sure what my DH will do for paternity leave yet, need him to find out if he just gets statutory or if there's any enhanced pay. I imagine he will take some time as annual leave either way.

Lauren82000 · 23/12/2014 18:02

You need to be careful with yellow. We were all set to go home with DD and the mw said hmm she looks a not yellow then kept us in for another 3 days and put her under a lamp. I'm convinced it was because she was dressed in yellow!

BrixtonBunny · 23/12/2014 18:08

Banana my DPs is rubbish in terms of pay - a week at 90 per cent pay and then a week with no pay! He works for a local authority too so I would have thought it would be better. Still, grateful that he can take a month off so not feeling too hard done by x

Well the taxi driver was very helpful but there was an "extras" charge for carrying the cot of £10, which wasn't even mentioned when I ordered the taxi and explained I needed a bigger car. So not as cheap as I'd hoped, and it took me well over an hour to walk to get to it and then was sat there for over half an hour waiting for the cab.

I could lift it ok though as it was all in bits and none of the individual bits were too heavy, although it will weigh quite a lot when put together. And it is really lovely wood, and the only other big thing I need to buy is a pram, so I'm still pretty happy really. Knackered though!

Welcome to all the new people! Maybe we should all introduce ourselves again? Catsofa, 35, EDD April 30th, expecting my first, a boy. Also living with one elderly cat and soon my DP.

Brixton that's great news well done him.

Not sure what DH will do as he will be starting new job but doesn't know if current place is going to make him work his three month notice - literally resigned last Friday, just before boss went off on annual leave so that the clock would start ticking on his notice period. Could be a bit of a shocker as it's hard to work our what he'll be entitled to. It's not so much the money but the pat leave itself ie the two weeks leave as he won't have been there v long. Oh well, I will force my mum to help now she's retired, she won't say no. And some local friends with slightly older kids have pledged their support so I may call on them. Defo feeling more chilled out about this aspect of things with a second.

Welcome newbies. Jonty, sounds like collective stress is the culprit. Hopefully once Christmas is finally here you will feel a bit less overwrought. As someone else said, come forth and moan if it helps, it's what MN is for.
