This second timer hasn't even thought about baby's sleeping arrangements save for new mattresses for Moses basket and cot (both of the very ordinary kind - nothing high tech or clever/ innovative).

I am basically praying fervently that this little boy is a naturally wonderful sleeper like his big sis and can therefore be ministered to in the same way which means own room at about 12 weeks (DD v noisy at night).

Other than that all I just really want to know if I'll be able to lie in the bath on a Sunday morning ever again and how I'm going to cope if the answer is 'no'!

Nursery concerns - we only had a small two bed flat when DD born. We bought a cheap and horrible mdf chest of drawers from Argos for her clothes which I am ashamed to admit we still have, out of laziness really. A cot, mobile, changing mat for the floor, I think that was it. Didn't redec the room as knew we would sell up within a year. Really don't worry, people are probably only trying to show an interest. It's like bump comments I think. We're all just rather hormonal and sensitive so we take things to heart. Babies just need love and cuddles and to settle and feed and gain weight. The rest is froth.

Rosey I have just read your other thread. Can you talk to him about your worries?

minipie · 28/12/2014 21:11

Argh potty training. We are supposed to be attempting it with DD in a couple of days time once back from PILs (she is 26 months). I am Not Looking Forward To It. Need to get a child seat for the loo cinnamon... any recommendations?

BananaToast · 28/12/2014 21:20

I'm planning to use my pram carrycot as a Moses basket proxy for daytime naps too - not enough space in my little flat for both.

Rosey I looked at your thread and don't have anything helpful to suggest but you have my sympathy, it sounds really difficult for you.

I've spent the day with extended family who gave us lots of bits for the baby! His first proper outfit - little dungarees and a top in size 3-6 months and some lovely sleepsuits, bibs, hats and a blanket. I definitely don't need to buy any more clothes if this is a sign of things to come! This baby is already being spoilt rotten and he's not even arrived.

23+6 - viability day tomorrow and my 24 week check up.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/12/2014 21:59

I prefer ones like this that go under the seat and you get less wee escaping! If you want a more permenant one then this is similar to ours but we only paid £30 as ours is plastic. But it's worth it for me as I always have children who are using it because of my job, it is funny when people leave and you realise they've used the tiny seat though Wink

TheBooMonster · 28/12/2014 22:18

rosey With DD she didn't have a nursery, she slept in with us initially, so there was just the crib, she had a drawer in my chest of drawers and her hanging stuff hung in our wardrobe, we changed her on the floor, so we got no nursery furniture. DD spent her first night at home sleeping in the carry cot part of the travel system. She eventually went into her own room when she went up to a cot and then she used the furniture that was already in the room (the guest room). She got her own furniture when we moved into our own place, we got her a wardrobe and chest of drawers off gumtree for £60.

This time we've not really sorted anything (except getting DD's clothes out of storage) I'm still fighting the nursery, I want the girls to share a room so that we'll have a spare room / craft room / library. The crib won't fit into the master bedroom as it is though so we need to do some serious moving round :/

I have the waddle!

minipie · 28/12/2014 22:20

thanks cinnamon, that's really helpful, I didn't know there were ones that went under the seat! Hmm need to decide whether to go for the more permanent type or not... How long till they can use the adult seat do you reckon?

cinnamongreyhound · 28/12/2014 22:25

Ds2 happily uses the normal seat now and he's 4 but my two 3 year old mindees still prefer the little seat. Probably depends on the size and confidence of your child minipie.

Hidingthefear · 28/12/2014 22:58

I think your right smog people ask because it's the polite thing to do and makes conversation.
I keep geating asked a, if the nursery is ready and b, have we thought ofor a name. But when I say yes its followed by suspense so I have to add "but we're not telling anyone"
And that's my best friends fault because at the beginning when I told her we liked Max for a boy she said "eurgh like a maxi pad" so I just laughed and by the time he's born she won't remember saying it...maybe. doesn't matter what name you have, there will always be an unfortunate alternative, be it first name or second. My DH is only known by his high school nickname and there is only me that calls him his actual name which all our friends find odd.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 28/12/2014 23:57

essentials - cot (travel cot with a proper matress added will do just as well)
some means to transport baby (any pushchair/buggy that says it's suitable from newborn will do, doesn't have to cost a fortune. Babywearing is also good when you're healed enough)
clothing (vests, sleepsuits, cardigans will suffice if you don't want to indulge in tiny shopping. Nothing at all wrong with second hand ones either, save a fortune!)
means of feeding - personally I intend to breast feed and pump for the daddy to help, so will be buying bottles/new teats for old bottles and already have a pump and steriliser
bedding - sleeping bags for night time, blankets to go over baby in pram/buggy, sheets.

the only thing I will stress about second hand is REALLY check for safety. check there aren't any worn bits which may compromise the safety of hte baby, no gaps for tiny fingers to be caught in etc.

Things you should ALWAYS get new if you can - car seat (even if you buy a second hand travel system, get a new car seat! you can't see damage to the microstructure but it could still be there), mattresses for cot and/or basket (apparently it's a cot-death risk), teats for bottles.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 28/12/2014 23:57

oh and nappies, of course!

TheBooMonster · 29/12/2014 08:10

The bounty lady I mentioned a few days ago has had her baby! 1lb7 at 35+2(I think that gestation is right)

Lauren82000 · 29/12/2014 08:34

Wow a pound. That's nothing at all is it? Hope the little one makes it being that small.

BananaToast · 29/12/2014 08:37

Do you mean 25+2? Hope mum and baby are doing ok.

cinnamongreyhound · 29/12/2014 08:42

Wow, that's tiny! My little guy was apparently 575g at my last scan at 23 weeks. Wishing them both all the luck in the world, what a tough start!!!

StuntNun · 29/12/2014 08:47

AFAIK the advice to get new mattresses for cots etc. is only for second hand items, if it has been used by a sibling then you don't need a new mattress.

None of my three would ever go in the potty so we had a plastic insert for the toilet and a little step. I'll probably get a permanent seat for DS3 though seeing as we'll have DS4 toilet training not too long afterwards and to be honest we need a new loo seat anyway.

TheBooMonster · 29/12/2014 11:26

yes banana 25+2! sorry, probably should have consumed morning ration of caffeine before coming on the internet :P

stunt I think it also includes stuff that's been in storage for more than 2 years. we're getting a new crib mattress but DD will use the combed till bump is ready to use it so we won't bother with a new mattress for that.

Think my BH have stopped for now. Just had a big run of them every 4-6 mins for the last 45mins. Think that's the longest batch I've had. Was being to freak me out a bit I'm 2 days from v-day. Confused least baby was pretty active through them so it wasn't anything more scary, if I remember rightly they tend to go pretty quiet during the main event.

23+5

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 29/12/2014 15:04

back to resting... did too much, bump was feeling incredibly tight and uncomfortable. can't stand any elastic on or near it, so I'm sat in my one and only dress (light summer one :( ) waiting for it to calm down. I'm supposed to be helping build the kids' bunk beds today :(

Lauren82000 · 29/12/2014 15:20

You can still help just be I charge of the instructions! Wink No effort required just take it easy and order everyone else about.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 29/12/2014 15:24

there is only one other person... so I have to help.

Lauren82000 · 29/12/2014 15:55

Can you be in charge of screws then? No lifting that way just a bit of moving about.

StuntNun · 29/12/2014 16:29

I don't know if this link to the German Amazon site will work but I have been looking at co-sleeper cots and they seem to be a lot cheaper there, even with shipping to the UK. They also look a bit more suitable for my needs than the three I've seen here (NCT Bednest, John Lewis Troll and Chicco Next2Me).

TheBooMonster · 29/12/2014 16:57

lauren I had them on and off most of Saturday, and overtime they stopped I'd get a proper booting!

Lauren82000 · 29/12/2014 17:22

Boo they started up again when I was cooking the tea. Hmm Seem to have calmed again now. Certainly something to mention on Wednesday at the mw I think. I'm sure I didn't get them this often last time.
