HI Guys, I am still confused, so please join me on this one.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
EliBoo · 27/10/2006 20:10

Castles, I found ours via www.doula.org.uk/ just went to the appropriate geographical area, and made a list of the possible ones. Many have websites, and I got an instant feel as to who might 'fit' for us and who might not - but as it turned out, it was one of the doulas I emailed, then chatted to, who put me on to her. She couldn't do dec/jan as was starting a course - so gave me a couple of names to try instead.

No, I don't think yours sounds fishy - why not talk to her and see what your gut feeling is? I wouldn't say ours would be my best friend/confidante....but in terms of just getting the work done, and being trustworthy and professional, and getting on ok with dd (my priority) she seems great. And absolutely willing to muck in - she has three kids herself, is about the same age as me, and describes her job as being about 'supporting the family as a whole as they adjust to the new addition': just what I want!

Jabber, why not? I think doulas (both sorts) are great - and it gives you breathing space to sort out a new nanny, if thats what you plan to do, without any pressure. Its always easier making choices without pressure, IMO!

Wish I could help on the subject of diabetic cats, but... sorry, that sounds rough.

PumpkinMilkshake · 27/10/2006 20:45

Sorry I cant help with the diabetic cat either - one of mine does need valium though. She get's so stressed. DD was first to start her manic washing. then she got used to her. then last bonfire night she started again and has'nt stopped. Fireworks have already starte again, and with a new baby on the way as well it';s unlikely without some sort of calming treatment that she wil have any fur left at all come new year She's such a sweety though.

You got me thinkning of a Doula now....even though I said I did'nt want one, but of they iron...and what a great way to get up MIL's nose. Shels despoerate to come stay with us when baby arrives, but has so far been turned down flat I have refused her help, since she said she could'nt come to look after DH and DD when I was in hospital for a week in Feb after my M/C

Vindictive, moi?

castlesintheair · 27/10/2006 21:03

Thanks Eli. I'll check that site out if I don't hear from her. I was hoping for an early night (not for rumpy pumpy in case anyone is wondering, that is certainly not on the agenda these days, sadly) so better stay on MN for a while .

VMS, I'm partly thinking of getting a doula to avoid my DM coming to stay post-birth as she KEEPS suggesting. Awful but true!

PumpkinMilkshake · 27/10/2006 21:10

On the sex front - just to let you know I am not having something you're not. Thnking about it and fantasising about hairy men are as far as I get. DH will massage back if I ask nicely - but expects (and can have if I am feeling obliging) a lot in return

jabberthefriendlyghost · 27/10/2006 21:24

Okay, you guys have got me thinking I need to jump on the doula thing.

TMI alert - actually did do the deed night before last, but as I said it was more than a little awkward I just keep thinking about that post c-section dry spell last time. I didn't even want to think about it for about 3 months and then it wasn't particularly enjoyable for several months after that

Oh, and as far as fantasy sex dreams go, mine is...

Bill Clinton

In fact, I think I'm due for one!!!!

PumpkinMilkshake · 27/10/2006 21:29

More TMI - I have to say we did it about 6 weeks after DD was born and I loved it - it was like our first time al over again....am actually loking forward to that again

jabberthefriendlyghost · 27/10/2006 22:07

I am impressed PM.

babypowder · 27/10/2006 22:16

We've tried ... but my HUGE bump and the massive height difference (4'8" me -v- 5'11" DH) have pretty much put paid to that. Jabber, I had a really long post c-section dry spell, and subsequent pain. Is that normal?

EliBoo · 27/10/2006 22:34

I had a very long post section dry spell too - and pain the first couple of times afterwards.

But I'm afraid even the memory of that isn't doing it for me - maybe if we could get time together in the morning, before I'm knackered!!

And while we're on the confession roll, we are getting rid of the spare bed on Monday in order to make room for a cot in what used to be the spare room (that my DM always stayed in, and considered as 'hers'). It feels great

babypowder · 27/10/2006 22:34

It was very weird today, writing Christmas cards from me, DH and DD, and realising that by the time they arrive at their destination, the bump could be reality! And I don't even know what to call it yet!
DD has the first of many Hallowe'en parties tomorrow, so I should really go and make some cakes and then get myself to bed.
I am NOT going to moan anymore in this pregnancy ...

EliBoo · 27/10/2006 22:35

omg, Xmas cards? BP, that is so well organized - am very impressed. Hmm, and its a good idea, too...wonder if I can persuade dh to join in...

Jabber, Bill - !

Calmriver · 27/10/2006 22:39

Hi All, just a quick message to say I haven't forgotten all of you, and am started to get withdrawel, but tomorrow will spend some time catching up! Hope you're all feeling okay! Just over a month to go! 4 weeks and 6 days!

Baby Joseph Robert Bewilderbeast born Sunday 22/10/06 at 10.35am by emergency ceasarean due to severe anemia and having been starved of oxygen for 10 days ( I stole all his blood)spent several days in intensive care and is now in a high dependency unit but is doing well and gaining strength every day.

lucy5 · 27/10/2006 22:59

Oh my goodness! Thinking of you both! What a shock, glad that he is doing ok, how are you?

lucy5 · 27/10/2006 23:02

oh and welcome to the world Joseph!

jabberthefriendlyghost · 28/10/2006 04:48

Wow! welcome baby Joseph!!! I can't believe we already have two babies on this thread.

babypowder, I think it is pretty normal. There was a thread a while back talking about the surprising "tightness" after a c-section. I thought it was just me, but several others noticed the same. But, at least this time around I know it goes away

castlesintheair · 28/10/2006 09:13

Congratulations Bewilderbeast! Hope you are feeling ok. And welcome Joseph - glad to hear he is coming along nicely

That's two now - anymore over the weekend?!

PumpkinMilkshake · 28/10/2006 09:52

BWB, congratualtions on the arrival of Joseph. Well Done XX

DD has her halloween party yesterday. the snot gree rice crispie cake I made for the kids was hidden in the kitchen and eaten by.....all the adults!

DD spent the entire party in friends garden on trampoline or riding a tractor around the grass. Jus wearingher fairy dress and no shoes. Pitch black outside except for outside light and freezing - did she care? No. Would she come in? No. Would she out her jacket or wellies on? No.

jabberthefriendlyghost · 28/10/2006 10:34

LOL, in your dd's defense, I can hear myself as a young child saying, "But fairies don't wear a jacket or wellies"

except we don't have wellies in the US

EliBoo · 28/10/2006 11:45

Wow!! Congrats Bewilderbeast - and a big welcome to Joseph Soudns like the two of you went through a tough time, very glad all is going well now! Two babies...and the first boy of the thread....lovely.

Milkshake, I think there's a gap in the market for a book about a stunning fairy who wears a warm coat and boots - that or a tv program - would be very helpful to some of us, eh?!

Calm, hope you're having fun with your friend - do'nt worry, you'll catch up, just make the most of it! Yes, less than five weeks (probably) for me too....

My big news: two days of dandelion root, and less itching. Eight hours sleep - wahey! I've stripped the beds, dusted, done all the washing out of pure relief....mind you, have to sit down and MN to get my breath back and bp down now...

Hope everyone is having a good weekend, and well. xx

weirdbird · 28/10/2006 11:52

Anyone else been treated for Anemia?

How long does it take for the iron supplement to kick in and stop you feeling dizzy all the time?

jabberthefriendlyghost · 28/10/2006 11:52

Sooo, glad to hear the itching is better, eliboo. (I still want you to get it checked out, though )

I'm sitting here with an ice pack on my shoulder. Had the mother of all neck spasms yesterday. I honestly thought I was going to have to go to the emergency room and get a shot of something, anything! to stop the pain. Could not move an inch without spasm of pain running down

Dh was really great, did several massages with some wonder ointment I had bought for him not too long ago, ironically and brought up ice packs, 20 minutes on, 20 minute off.

And you know the main thing that kept runnng through my mind? I don't want to miss the big Halloween party tonight!! Dh and I have a babysitter and cool costumes. Figure it may be our last big night out for a loooong time. (And the first one in a long time, actually )

EliBoo · 28/10/2006 11:55

Ouch, Jabber, poor you! Hope it stays better for tonight. What on earth are you dressing up as, given your advanced maternal state?? Not a pumpkin, surely?

And thanks, yes, I am going to get checked on Tuesday. I promise.

WB, I was anaemic and it took about five days for the iron to really take effect - they say a week of iron tablets puts your HB up by about 1g. Hope you feel better soon.

weirdbird · 28/10/2006 11:58

Welcome Baby Joseph Robert Bewilderbeast

Hope everything continues to improve and you are allowed home soon!

jabberthefriendlyghost · 28/10/2006 12:01

It's an ultra-fab black and white themed Halloween party. I'm going as a sorceress. Figure the pregnancy will just add to the Morgana effect or something I have a long black plunging in the back dress that I only wore once when pg with ds and have been dying to wear it again. Have long black wig, cosmetic contacts, black press-on nails, the whole thing. Dh is going as the Godfather (Brando) with the whole black and white gangster look. This party is always one of the biggest of the year in our group of friends so will be frantically massaging throughout the day!
