HI Guys, I am still confused, so please join me on this one.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
judemum · 25/10/2006 14:58

God- you guys are such a lifeline. Also had a crap night's sleep- up between 1-3am. Its sods law really isn't it that the time you need it the most you can't get it and in a months or so's time, we'll be up all night anyway!
Gloria, nothing to be scared about. Its so hard to imagine yourslef as a mum before it happens, but I do believe that we're all programmed deep down and a mother's instinct is an incredibly powerful thing- after a few weeks you'll wonder what you were ever worried about! The one thing I would say, is that if you are anything like me (can't sit still, always wanting to get jobs done) then the main thing to remember is to be really strict with yourself and give yourself a break. My mum kept saying to me, forget the housework, forget the fact that there's no food in the cupboards, just enjoy this time, because the time with your newborn is short, precious and never ever comes back, so sod the dishes- just sit there and enjoy having the time to love your baby. She was so bloody right!!

judemum · 25/10/2006 15:00

oh- and remember that the first few weeks are pretty hellish for everyone and that IT DOES GET BETTER!!!

VanillaMilkshake · 25/10/2006 15:17

First few weeks are lovely with you baby as well as awful, no sleep, wild emotions. I remember crying everynight as I slept in spare room so DH could have good nights sleep before work, and wondering if we'd ever share a bed again. Also my back was agony as ligaments started to recover and I had to sleep sitting up with a floor cushion behind me!!

This time - there is no spare room - no spare bed and DH chucked out the floor cushion when we were having a decluttering thing. Have to go on e-bay now and buy a folding chair bed so DH can sleep on floor in nursery when he goes back to work, and it will also come in handy later on as bump starts to sleep in his/her own room and may need company.

And.....and I was writing on a Christmas thread when I realised with a shock I will have a 1-3wk old newborn on Christmas Eve which could mean I have a wide awake DD as well - how am I ...ahem how is Santa going to sneak her stocking in to her room???

Carameli · 25/10/2006 15:41

just popped in to tell you what happened to me today. I live in Richmond which has been on the news about parking permits for large cars such as 4x4s being increased. I just have a small car and had parked by the Green and Sky news spotted me to have a chat. Seems a snippet was on the 2.30 news(SiL rang and told me).

Gloria42 · 25/10/2006 16:01

Judemum, am determined to make myself let (non-important) stuff, like housework, go. At times I'm not sure whether it scares me more the thought of having a baby to look after or the thought that it might not be a baby any more by the time i get the hang of it!!!!!

judemum · 25/10/2006 16:35

Carameli- fame at last!!!!!! Wish I'd been watching

VanillaMilkshake · 25/10/2006 16:39

Well done Carimeli! I was interviewed by phone on sky when I e-mailed my views on a topic once - really shocked me when they e-mailed back and said please ring the studio!

Gloria, I am getting major nesting urges right now and am fightng the urge to throw the entire contents of my dining room.

judemum · 25/10/2006 16:39

PS about to sign off but just had a massive rant on the phone to my mum about DH and feel a lot better. She reckons I should tell him that he's being insensitive and that he needs to focus on me more, as I have been pretty tactful, whilst he's been buggering off for weekends with his mates (leaving me to look after toddler) and bloody reflexology sessions. So watch this space... stairgate about to be used. ..

PPS when I'm PG and talk to my mum I feel about 12 years old again and just want to sit there and cry on her (flat) chest. feel really pathetic about it. sniff sniff bye for now everyone

VanillaMilkshake · 25/10/2006 16:44

Dont cry JM. I was an emotional wreck at the weekend and was desperate for a cuddle from my mum - unfortuneatley no longer with us.

I think you should try and see your mum and ask her for a cuddle - I'm sure she'll delighted that you still want that from her - I know I would be if DD turned round and asked for a cuddle when she is much older. And I know it always made my mum smile when I cuddled her even as a grown up. And most importantly it will make you feel better. Here's a big hug for you from me anyhow (((hug))).

Loulou000 · 25/10/2006 17:18

Poor JM, try not to reach for the stairgate, you'll only break it.

And our very own Carameli is famous! Wish I had seen it.

I am nesting in major way too but it mostly entails looking at all the boxes and having a little weep.

EliBoo · 25/10/2006 17:28

((JM)) I hope my dd feels that way when she's pregnant - re her mum, that is, not re the stairgate! Hugs to you sweetie, hope the talk with dh goes ok.

Have had a mega busy, nice day with friend and her two children...now if I could only get some sleeeeeeppppp....[knackered icon]

EliBoo · 25/10/2006 17:29

Carameli, wish I'd seen it! You're just up the road from me, I'm in SW13

Calmriver · 25/10/2006 19:28

Hi Guys,

Weirdbird, sorry never got back to you...have been running around like an animal as my friend is staying with me for 3 weeks!!!!! She is here in England on holiday and wants to rush here and there in London...(actually she is pretty easy going, but I want her stay to be fun!) So, been all over London today and have to keep reminding myself I will have another baby in 5 weeks!
Sorry about the cleaning, but I am booked up now till Friday and then have the weekend as a break as she is going to Bath till Sunday evening.....

I will have a great long catch up then!!! I have really missed you guys!

spinamum · 25/10/2006 21:07

Judesmum, It's really sweet that you feel like that about your mum. When I'm pg I miss being able to turn into a 12 year old and talk to my mum. I hope my DC feel close to me and want a cuddle when they're my age. BigHug!

Carameli. Fame at last! Sorry I missed it.

I'm on antibiotics for a suspected UTI. Hooray! Without going into TMI, I had a feeling of needing to go to loo every 15mins(try explaining to a student doctor that you're pg and feel you need to you to the toilet reaaly often and watch them try not to launch into typical pg symptoms!!!) Was feeling a bit faint and hot and had a mild back ache so to be on the safe side I'd got five days of penicillin. THe other thing it could be rather than a UTI is thrush. But if I take the antibiotics I'll definately have thrush by the end. Oh joy! Of course didn't have my mat notes so I've promised myself I'll start carrying them a bit more( So that's another bag to pack technically!)

VanillaMilkshake · 25/10/2006 21:19

Hey all do you know I have drunk about 5 pints of water and squash today!!!

I now know how a washing machine feels. Not really thirsty but prefer to drink than eat today for some reason.

weirdbird · 25/10/2006 21:23

I have been trying to drink lots of water since they told me dehydration was a cause of premature contractions

I permenantly feel like I should slush and swish as I walk

VanillaMilkshake · 25/10/2006 21:29

And rinse

EliBoo · 25/10/2006 22:32

Can't sit still long enough to type much tonight (be grateful for small mercies, friends ) as am SO itchy in the evenings now. Have posted in 'Health' about it, its driving me nuts - time to contact OB I think. dh is going to get me some dandelion root tomorrow in case its PUPPS (and in case it helps - supposed to, for some people).

Hope the UTI is better soon, S - maybe worth taking acidophilus to try and avoid the dreaded thrush??

Sleep well all, but if anyone is up at 3am you may well find me lurking here tonight.....grrr.

jabberthefriendlyghost · 26/10/2006 02:00

elliboo, I googled itching, pregnancy and saw this site .

castlesintheair · 26/10/2006 08:01

Morning all, hope everyone had a good night. How is the itching Eli? Do you think you might have developed a temporary allergy to something during this pg? I had an itchy phase during last pg and smothered myself with Eurax. Amazing, I can actually remember the name of something!

Hope UTI clears up soon Spina. Ouch!

Carmelli, I live in Richmond too! Bet you were interviewed by (claim to fame moment) my BIL!!

Yesterday I made LO's cotbed. Now I just have to sort through all the old baby clothes - only 5 full bin liners and 2 of those huge storage bags from JoJo Maman Bebe ...

I wonder how Maroon/Francesca are getting on ...

jabberthefriendlyghost · 26/10/2006 11:48

Poor you, spina. A UTI on top of the already too-frequent peeing at this stage is just not fair. When we go in for check-ups they always do a urine specimen and that's one of the things that gets checked because it is so hard to tell the difference between pregnancy urges and UTI urges. I'm glad you got them to take you seriously!

Congrats on your new fame, Caramelli

judemum · 26/10/2006 11:50

Morning Castles. What's a UTI? Sorry to be thick.

jabberthefriendlyghost · 26/10/2006 11:50

urinary tract infection

SH27 · 26/10/2006 12:50

Hello everyone,

I am due 1st or 2nd December and feeling huge and tired! This is my second but I wasn't this tired with my first, although that was 10 years ago!!!

summerlovebaby · 26/10/2006 12:55

Hi everyone,

Sorry just disappeared after introducing myself and all that, had such a crazy week last week and it all came to a head this weekend, I had 2 visitors, one arriving, one leaving, had to attend baby show, do airport trips and was so exhausted on Monday I ended up going home sick. Baby Show was pretty overwhelming since I haven't done any shopping yet, but I did manage to pick up a moses basket and nappy bin(useful or not, I will have to wait and see). Ugh can't wait to finish work and do the 'nesting thing' it's all I can think of now!

Had ante-natal class yesterday, the guy was discussing complications so not very pleasant.

Also if anyone has had the same problem as me i.e rib pain and bra making it worse may I recommend maternity vests? They are the best thing and I'm not so uncomfortable anymore (discounting the wriggling about at night).

xx
