New thread, as the other one was nearly full! Can someone please post the stats page, as I'm useless with things like that!

I will e having a glass of champagne on Xmas day. Also had a glass of champagne at a birthday party last weekend. As far as I can tell from research, unless you drink regularly it will do no harm to baby. Alcohol can reduce development, reduce birth weight and cause feral alcohol syndrome but that is from chronic drinking. A couple small glasses here and there won't hurt, but I am avoiding it completely anyway as it is easier - my Xmas champagne will be my last glass til July :)

9+4

JoY007

Ooh I love a bit of bone manipulation!!

Glad you have been sorted and fingers crossed it won't repeat Smile

WantToGoingTo · 23/12/2014 16:47

(I also ha a teensy bit of brandy butter with a mince pie the other day!)

ohlordyplordy · 23/12/2014 16:54

Good to hear your opinions thanks. I haven't had any alcohol so far since being pregnant or whilst ttc. So I think a wee bit in trifle (and brandy sauce - I forgot about that want) on Christmas Day will be fine. I won't be having any more alcohol for the rest of the pregnancy.

fattycow · 23/12/2014 16:57

No alchohol here at all! I have bought kiddie champagne for myself.

Oh twinkle what is your midwife called? I wonder if we'll have the same one.

SparklyPenguin · 23/12/2014 17:08

Despite working in a bar, I've quite easily avoided drinking any alcohol these past 10 weeks, however I'm thinking one small red wine with Xmas dinner won't hurt!

twinky12 · 23/12/2014 17:17

number caffeine is my poison to but coffee not tea. Decaffeinated is horrid, ive even tried to find love for herbal teas lol they make me gag.
Re alcohol ill have a quarter glass of Guinness Christmas day as its good for the iron so I told.

Amazing itsnotthatdeep xxx

Pipbin · 23/12/2014 17:40

I bought some ginger drink that will do when everyone else is having whisky.

fattycow · 23/12/2014 17:40

I have gone off coffee completely, it tastes vile nowadays to me. I hardly ever drink tea with caffeine. I love rooibos and drink loads of that!

I'm having a mini glass of champagne on Christmas Day

StoneBaby · 23/12/2014 18:07

I probably will have some Champagne on Xmas Day.

Coffee is my drug, I normally drink a pot a day. Can't stand it and I'm now drinking milk hot chocolate.

joy great news about the chiroprater (sp)

JoY007 · 23/12/2014 18:57

Argghhh just saw my GP and he gave me the flu jab, did not want one but he said no, best for you and the baby. Oh well..

How I wish I had the craving for alcohol, that said I would not mind half a glass of bubbly, I do love my carbonated drinks Grin

broodylicious · 23/12/2014 19:32

I shan't be drinking at all until I've had baby and have finished breastfeeding. Never really bothered too much with booze anyway (bar Royal Ascot week!) so tbh it's hardly a huge "sacrifice" for me.

Zampa · 23/12/2014 20:39

I've had about a unit of alcohol once every 10-14 days. That's 3 so far (10+5) and I'll have a glass of champagne on Christmas Day.

I've mentioned it before but Emily Oster's book, Expecting Better is really useful for making informed choices about everything from alcohol and food to genetic testing.

Zampa · 23/12/2014 20:42

P.S. Fabulous non alcoholic cocktail featured on the BBC's 12 Drinks of Christmas. Elderflower cordial, crushed mint, blackberries, lime juice and soda water. It's delicious.

WantToGoingTo · 23/12/2014 20:47

Got my scan letter through - 9 jan when I will be 12+0 so perfect. Will have to tell work though as it is during work hours and can't explain it away. As everything ok at 9wks I think should be ok. It is awkward though as I don't have line manager atm as new one starting in feb and next manager up is on leave til mid-jan. Think I will email her anyway though as she does check emails and will have quiet word with her PA to explain why I am out of the office at that time before announcing to the whole office! Eek I am excited :)

I love love tea. Tried decaf - yuk yuk yuk. I have limited myself to 2 a day, and herbal/fruit ones in between. That is still within recommended allowance so in happy with that! Can't wake up without a good old cuppa :)

WantToGoingTo · 23/12/2014 20:48

I can also vouch for non alcoholic mojito - Apple juice, lime juice, crushed mint leaves and ice. Yum!

Naturegirl82 · 23/12/2014 21:19

I've drunk decaf for about two years now and honestly I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. As long as you buy decent tea bags.

I'll not drink whilst pg (still feel guilty about drinking before I knew) but I'll have some whilst breastfeeding as it doesn't get into your milk if you drink in moderation.

Trying to get dd1's presents wrapped but having to do it lying down which is making it tricky!

misseskimo · 23/12/2014 23:23

I very rarely drink alcohol so not too fussed on that. I do however like my coffee, and have a nespresso machine both at home and at work. I've almost always drank only decaf but before I was pg I was getting really bogged down and started to have 1 caffeine coffee a day. I personally prefer decaf, but only PG for tea and nespresso or coffee shop coffee.

misseskimo · 23/12/2014 23:31

Random one for those who already have DC. I'm looking at baby clothes as DH and I have decided to buy some bits in Jan sale. But confused about all the sizes! The online nursery lists vary in advice from 6-8 babygros to 12-14 some say 6 day 6 sleep babygros (what's the difference?!) some say babygros plus tshirts and cardigans others just tell you to get the babygros and nothing else...

So... What the heck do I get? I've so far put 16 babygros all at age "newborn" (10lb) (only 1 actually says for sleeping) and a 0-6m grobag for bed as a few friends swear by grobags. Thinking that would be plenty, but DH is worried that newborn size isn't right and we should get some in each of the 5lb 7lb 10lb and 0-3m just in case... That sounds mad to me!? What is your advice on what is actually needed?

Naturegirl82 · 24/12/2014 00:05

miss newborn should be fine but I wouldn't buy too much as they grow pretty quick. Dd1 was 9 lb and was fine in newborn for a few weeks and then went into 0-3. Don't forget if you end up having a little baby you can always pop out to the shops once they are here to pick up a few bits. How many you need depends on how often you want to wash and how you dry clothes (e.g. airer/dryer). It will be summer though so in theory things should dry pretty quick.

I wouldn't bother with any outfits. Just vests and sleepsuits (never seen any that are specified as day or night ones before). Grobags are great but the baby has to be over 8 lb something (can't remember the exact weight) to be able to use them safely.

Naturegirl82 · 24/12/2014 00:06

Also don't worry so much about the weight guidance as you may end up with a light but long baby so need to move up the sizes quicker than the weight would suggest.
