Sorry to hear they're keeping you waiting mrsb Flowers

Frolic acid.. I'm holding out til the sales and then getting myself a few good bras. My bet is that although they will vary in size over the next few months, they will at some point be this size again so it's worth investing in a few sizes as they grow...

Hope everyone else doing ok.

Guyropes · 23/12/2014 10:16

Ruby... Really interesting that home birth is being actively promoted in your area..

It must be less resources intensive than hospital birth. I am such a cynic I can't believe they would promote it unless it was cheaper. The bizarre thing is that you can actually get much better care at home: you have 2 dedicated midwives which is simply not the case for most hospital births. Most of the services which are trying to save money round here are maintaining expenditure on facilities but cutting on wages. Promoting home birth seems to be the opposite tack!

Anyway I hope, if all goes well, to deliver at home; I did last time and it was so much more relaxed.

So glad to hear you will have some ongoing support, waves. Doula is such a good idea... I know a couple of people who have had an unsupportive partner And had a difficult birth as a result... And so nice you already have that relationship with her. And fantastic that your gp prescribed you the meds you need... Hope things improve for you rapidly.

wavesandsmiles · 23/12/2014 11:19

Ruby - having a doula last time was amazing and I am so pleased she's said she is excited to support me again. It was lovely to have someone there who was a familiar face and knew my birth plan inside out, and knew me too.

I would love to have a home birth this time, but at the moment they are not offered due to on-going issues following a review into maternity services here. Hopefully by August that will be resolved. For now I am just focusing on keeping dehydration at bay.

ruby242 · 23/12/2014 11:50

Yes I was surprised Guyropes that they would promote it, funnily enough not long ago they spent a lot of money doing the midwife led unit up so its fairly good I think anyway. She referred to it as the 'gold standard of care' and then said to be aware that the local hospital is very big and is a bit like a conveyor belt! I will talk to her more about it at my booking appointment as I'm still a bit concerned that I live about 40mins away so in my eyes that's too far!!

Hopefully the review of home births is resolved for you in time waves so you have the option-so weird they all have such different views!

Guyropes · 23/12/2014 13:01

Ruby... Yes, 40 mins would worry me too. So that's 40 mins for the ambulance to reach you? Or is there a nearer ambulance station? I have moved since my hb so instead of less than 5 mins, it's more like 15, or more if traffic is bad (evil roundabout) and that has given me food for thought. But I need to get a lot further along with no complications before I decide what I prefer!

Waves... Eh? They're just not offering home birth ? Are they just going to stop offering epidurals too? That's crackers!!!!

wavesandsmiles · 23/12/2014 14:02

Guy and Ruby - it is a bit unsettling here for maternity services. After a newborn died there was a big independent review done, several staff "resignations" and now a recruitment drive. Along with a remedial action plan. So they have pulled home births for now. Seems ridiculous. Knowing there are potentially big problems, I'd far rather be at home than in hospital! Crackers is the word.

Lilydreams · 23/12/2014 15:50

Oh you're all so brave thinking of hbs! There's no way I could do that- which is quite ridiculous considering I'm terrified of hospitals! Only ever been admitted for 1 night my whole life and cried the entire time! Blush

Made it through my first night shift with the help of travel bands and eating lots! Was a quiet night so even managed a cheeky nap! Left it a bit too long between eating when I knew it was nearly home time this morning though and wound up driving home with an empty Tupperware on my knee as I couldn't stop heaving!

Was considering a private early scan anyways and after reading on here that good results have been seen have booked for next week- day after my booking appointment, I'll be 8+1! Apparently I don't get my first nhs scan till between 12 and 14 weeks round here so couldn't wait all that time and want to see all ok before telling work at 10 weeks!

Feel horrific today how's everyone else? Xx

Emb540 · 23/12/2014 16:25

In this area they really push home births too, I would love one but at the mo everything is up in the air with our maternity / hospital. They've taken away peads so we don't have a hospital for 40 miles miles that will take children and now have gotten rid of the maternity unit. So my nearest is a 80 mile round trip which I have a feeling I'll be consultant led again as I was with 2nd, gonna be expensive time. And we don't have a SCUBU unit for a 120 mile round trip if they have space!! Friend just had a baby had to go to Cardiff which is 180 mile trip for us. & threatened taking her further unless a bed came free. really is scary!

Mind if anything like my 2 I won't have time to get to hospital with 2nd was hour and 20 mins start to finish :0/ xxx

toothachereturns · 23/12/2014 18:57

I'd like a home birth but I have 2 very lively spaniels who I fear would get in the way lol. Grin

I am feeling utterly crap this evening. Sick and tired after work and I just basically sit at a desk!Hmm
My boss announced that I'm up for a promotion in the recent restructure. I've to head up a team until the final structure is announced at the end of Jan and then formal offers will be made. They don't know I'm pg. Confused Confused Confused

ILoveYouBaby · 23/12/2014 20:41

I'm not thinking of a home birth as my last birth was pretty traumatic. I'm going to ask for an ELCS.

I spoke to a community midwife today, she was lovely :) They seem to have a surge in pregnancies here as well! I'm getting a dating scan which is great, as I don't know when my last period was.

Yesterday I felt really sick all day, but I've been fine today. I'm wondering if it's because I had a much better breakfast (toast and porridge) followed by a pain au chocolat :)

Daveface · 23/12/2014 20:42

2 previous EMCS here so this one will probably be ELCS at 39 weeks, which will actually be right at end of July.

Guyropes · 23/12/2014 23:10

Cripes toothache... Sounds like you've got your work cut out for you!

I love you baby... I'm finding I'm ok if I eat things that I fancy, but today my bf made some food which I'm sure was delicious, but I just didn't fancy. I ate a small amount and felt rotten for ages. I'm sticking to little and often. Totally gone off cooking though!

Dave and iloveyou... Sounds like your previous experiences were tough. I really hope your choices are respected and you can progress confidently.

Sweet dreams all!

Dozygirl · 24/12/2014 05:10

I'm hoping I can go all natural and go in the midwifery led unit part but obviously it's really early on atm so I've no idea how my pregnancy is going to go. I don't fancy a home birth particularly. Being a neonatal nurse means I see the things that can go wrong more than I see the normal healthy babies. In saying that I've known a few colleagues have home births still knowing what they know. I'd just feel safer knowing I'm close to the doctors if something did go wrong.

Tooth sounds like you've been doing a great job if you've got a promotio . Technically pregnancy shouldn't affect how they treat u so I'd say enjoy it and work hard for it while u can.

I'm still full of a cold and can't sleep. Nice long shift to get through today then I've got Xmas day and boxing day off which is a novelty! First time I've had all Xmas off with my dp so I'm looking forward to that.

Dailylurker · 24/12/2014 06:24

Hi all, I thought I'd pop my head in and say hello. I haven't read all the messages. Wow you girls can chat Grin I'm due on 24th august which seems a lifetime away with #4 for me, #5 for our family, I have DS1 (16) DS2 (14) DSS (9) DD1 (13 months)

I am very excited and this one is certainly going to be my last so I'm going to try and enjoy being pregnant.

Congratulations to all you lovely ladies and I hope to enjoy getting to know you all xxx

otter32 · 24/12/2014 06:59

tooth that's great news. Congratulations! Do you think you could hold out telling them until you knew if you got the permanent post?

Last day in work for me today, thank God. I'm knackered!

Is anyone else actually showing? I've been telling myself I'm just getting blubby cos I've stopped going to the gym, but my friend who's had 6 (amazing woman!!) felt my belly last night and said its pregnancy not blubber!! I'm only 8+4!! I thought I wouldn't show for ages yet!

Hope everyone is doing ok.

toothachereturns · 24/12/2014 07:13

Thanks ladies! I'm going to hold out telling for as long as possible Grin

8+4 isn't showing as such.... it'll be bloating lol. The uterus doesn't move up above the pubic bone until the 12th week. Smile But technically your bump is still caused by pregnancy!

otter32 · 24/12/2014 10:17

I've jumped on the early scan bandwagon. I've been panicking that something is wrong. So I've managed to get an appointment in an hour. Fingers crossed everything is ok and its a wonderful Christmas present.

Guyropes · 24/12/2014 10:36

Good luck otter!

CarrotPuff · 24/12/2014 11:02

So glad to see it's such a lively thread! When I was pg last time it died out and antenatal thread died out after just a few posts too. It's nice to be with a chatty bunch!

No symptoms here, but I didn't have any until I was 6 weeks last time. Maybe I'm peeing a bit more often though. But then I'm full of stinking cold, which I have had for nearly 2 weeks now. Went to GP on Monday and he made me feel like an idiot. Of course I know you can't treat a cold, but a cold shouldn't last over a week, should it? Angry

Oh and I have cracked heels which I am prone to in summer, but never happened in winter before. Nice Confused

I hope everyone is in festive mood, and sickness is not too bad. Good luck with early scans those who are having them!

CarrotPuff · 24/12/2014 11:03

Not antenatal, postnatal!

Dozygirl · 24/12/2014 12:33

I lasted 15 mins at work but ppl told me I looked dreadful and to go home. Felt bad though because it seems everyone at work is unwell so staffing levels are really bad. Someone came off the nightshift tonight to cover me today though so that probably suited her better. Came home and straight back to bed. Just hope I feel better for Xmas now.

Good luck with your scan otter.

mrsb I'm thinking of you today

otter32 · 24/12/2014 12:56

Thanks guyropes Scan was all good! Lively little bugger already! Saw the heartbeat too Smile Measuring bang on my dates.

Such a relief. I've been so worried. Feel like I can enjoy Christmas now!

dozy you need to take it easy. Listen to your body.

carrot I find scholl creams ace for dry feet.

mrsb0710 · 24/12/2014 13:04

Sorry to say ladies that it has not worked out this time. I had a scan today and have an ERPC on the 31st.
We shall get through this, and move on as best we can. Its horrible and awful, but at least now I know and can somehow deal with it.
Thank you to everyone for their best wishes and hope to be on an ante natal thread again soon.

Leasa21 · 24/12/2014 13:32
