It's really difficult to know how you will feel about work. Last time I had eleven months and DH took two so
She started nursery at twelve months. In retrospect I took too long and did not enjoy it. I enjoy my job and using my brain and am not cut out for being at home. So this time I plan a lot less but can always extend if need be. DH did not enjoy his time off either- there is little for dads to do and they don't build the same local connections.

I'm currently thinking Luna for a girl - last track on smashing pumpkins Siamese Dream- or Atticus for a boy - as in Finch. Or as in Atticus Ross. I do wonder if these are a touch pretentious even if you live in North London...

KittyVonCatsington · 03/12/2014 17:56

Ooh, Bean-one of DH's school friends has named their baby boy Atticus-a very distinguished name! We're South London Grin so definitely not pretentious for North...

Mslad · 03/12/2014 18:28

I love Luna and Atticus! Dp and I had our first discussion about baby names and it didn't go well....we couldn't agree on anything. And we're both really surprised at each other's choices, I like simple classic names and he likes more hippy, botanical names....I feel like I don't know who he is! Smile

Sunshine I agree with Kitty- try avoid ladders! My lift was broke in work this week so I had to do 9 flights of stairs- I thought I was going to die at the end!

Longest that's great you (eventually) found the heartbeat. It must have been such a terrifying 20 minutes.

longestlurkerever · 03/12/2014 18:40

Ooh I like Atticus, though I am from north London too. What names are others thinking of? We are maybe thinking of Beth or Bethan for a girl and James for a boy, unless I can think of anything more exciting that will get past the dh veto.

BeanCalledPickle · 03/12/2014 18:53

I would love to know what a hippy botanical name is!! Can I suggest you spend a day yelling your chosen name over and over. DD is Polly (her parents were big Nirvana fans) and I've been happy with our choice but my god do I get sick of hearing it!!

bradders85 · 03/12/2014 19:24

Hi everyone and welcome newbies! Some very cool names there! We would have Evie for a girl, always wanted the name since I watched House of Eliott when I was about 8! We are finding boys names slightly harder to agree on.....like quite traditional though. Scan day tomorrow at 19 weeks, nervous and excited!!

Titsalinabumsquash · 03/12/2014 19:33

We like no girls names it would seem Confused well we both like a few but not on the same wavelength, he says mine are all old lady-ish and his are just not my cup of tea.
We best hope it's a boy, we gave a few for boys, our surname (not the one on facebook) is awful for anything beginning with M or embarrassing for anything beginning with C

Mslad · 03/12/2014 19:51

lol Bean good idea on the shouting! Dp likes names for girls like 'Clover' 'Rain' 'Anemone' 'Basil'. He's quite a serious guy so I was surprised (and disapointed - no offence if anyone here has dc with those names) at his choices.

longestlurkerever · 03/12/2014 20:01

Grin at Basil! Hope you can talk him round tits

BeanCalledPickle · 03/12/2014 20:22

Laughing my arse off at those suggestions. Anemone?!

BeanCalledPickle · 03/12/2014 20:22

Basil as in Fawlty or as in the herb?!?!

KittyVonCatsington · 03/12/2014 20:42

"Basil Brush"...Nah! Couldn't do it Grin

We are all sorted for a boys name - first name and middle name to be named after my Dad (passed away) and Birth Father (I'm adopted) but girls names are failing us! Mainly because our surname starts with a L and most girls names have an L in it so we're avoiding the alliteration route. Decided to wait for anomaly scan as if it's a boy, I won't need to bother Grin

BTW, whilst writing this post, I swear I have felt baby move properly! DH even put his hand on bump and felt one of the 'kicks' too!! Felt differently than all other movements so far. V. Happy!!

18+4

Mslad · 03/12/2014 20:48

Basil and the rest are ridiculous, I've vetoed them all. But then he didn't like any of mine

Kyz · 03/12/2014 21:20

Evening all :) Had a busy day today, poor DS has been ditsy and fallen down the stairs twice :( I took him to the doctors as I didn't feel he seemed his usual self, not with being so disorientated anyway, I mean he's clumsy but that's something else! He is on abs for the start of an ear infection, poor toad (it's my pet name for him, toad). On the plus side i've not had time to feel ill myself, certainly feeling it now though! Also forgot about being pregnant when jumping up as quick as a flash to see to him, seem to have pulled a muscle on my right hand side, but it's not too sore now, it happened this morning, so hopefully all is fine and I just moved too quickly!

cuphat hope you're better soon, it's horrible isn't it - the cough is what is driving me nuts at night time, and I can't breathe at all at night either, grr!

eek peaky hope you're better soon too!

welcome ginger and congrats!

glad all is ok with the doppler longest :)

Names, I have a massive list for both a boy or a girl. I am convinced I am having a boy though and have a favourite boys name picked out that I am in love with, but we will see! I think we will do what we did last time and once we know what we're having dp will look at my list and we'll remove any he really hates, I will also regularly add and remove names I find or go off and he will also add names when he looks at my list, if the ones he likes aren't already on there, and we will have a shortlist. My DS is an Eric, we always said we'd have two or three names and choose one when he arrived but to be honest he was E from a few weeks before he was born, we just didn't decide for definite if that makes any sense! I am keen not to give bump a name, because my mum did that with one of my sisters and by the time she arrived she couldn't stand the name she had chosen as everyone had been using it for months and it drove her nuts! E was referred to as bean throughout my pregnancy and the first six months of his life, actually, and this baby is referred to as poppet :)

TotallyKerplunked · 04/12/2014 09:43

Hi all, good to see how everyone else is getting on.

I've had my 16 week midwife appointment and it all went well, she picked up the heartbeat immediately and I had blood taken for the downs test as the scan at 12 weeks was poor. I made a right tit of myself though as I cried when she asked me how I was, I explained a bit about the anxiety/panic attacks I had following DS birth which seem to have returned and she was really good and said aspects of my care last time around were unacceptable and she would refer me for a C-section if I wanted, its given me something to think about.

My DH is useless with names as well, last time the only names he suggested were greek gods which sounded ridiculous and he vetoed every suggestion I had, I had to threaten divorce before he became remotely sensible (and DS has the name he eventually chose).

mumxof3x · 04/12/2014 11:14

I like a few girls names but no boys names at all, n im pretty sure im having a boy. But didnt pick a name till my other ds's were born either. Dp is just rubbish with names, wont give, any suggestions but just says no to everything i say.

Im waiting so impatiently for the post everyday for my next scan date and its just not arriving arghh

Sunshinesaz86 · 04/12/2014 12:01

9 flgiths of stairs mslad you need a medal! :)

im the same as you mum few girls names but really stuck for boys, we both like Lucas for a boy, (ilke Spencer) Dp hates it apart from that we hate all other suggestions! And for girls I quite like Sasha, Pheobe (new one) and he likes Mia. I hope you get your scan date through soon mum if not chase it up!

cuphat · 04/12/2014 12:26

Thanks Kyz, hope you're better soon too. The cough is still driving me mad - nothing works, does it?! If I could breathe through my nose it might help but I can't!

We're really struggling with boys names and we're pretty certain it's a boy this time. There are a couple we both like but with one I'm worried it'd get shortened (don't like the shortened version) and with the other I'm not sure how others would view the name (if that makes any sense).

Gingergeek · 04/12/2014 12:29

Thanks all! Congrats all round too :)
I'm a medical student so getting to take a full 12 months off too with the way my course is organised :) glad to be getting the break from studying and plenty of post baby time too :)

Definitely strange how different the pregnancies can go. Hoping for a similar labour to my second and nothing like my first haha!
Anyone not planning on finding out the sex at 20 week scan? I didn't with first two and it really was lovely finding out at delivery but I'm so desperate to start shopping this time round that I don't want to wait! Worried I'll regret finding out early though. Convinced I'm having a girl this time round which will make dd happy and ds not so much.
Struggling with names too, some lovely ones you guys have in mind. Also thinking naming the bump might be a bad idea too haha!

Gingergeek · 04/12/2014 12:34

Dh is actually quite good at name choosing. He picked dd's name well before we even thought about children and it's perfect for her! We both struggled with ds' name and he didn't have one until we were home from the hospital, but again his is just perfect for him. Both children have fairly unusual names, not completely out there though so think that makes it harder to choose something to go with them IYKWIM?

Pleased 16 week appointment went well totally. I am just back from 19 week scan, all looks good but baby was being lazy (again!) and all curled up. Tried all sorts of positions to get baby moving to no avail. Some measurements completed and said all looks good but will have to go back in 4 weeks or so (have to wait for appointment letter) to complete the measurements they couldn't get because of baby's position! Will add my scan photo later once I figure out how! :)

Sunshinesaz86 · 04/12/2014 13:46

Im not finding out Ginger its soooo tempting but we definitley want a surprise on the day. It is a tough decision isnt it!

Tori thats not too long to wait for your next scan then, im sure everything will be hunky dory but can understand why you want the reassurance.

Im assuming you didnt find out the sex bradders apologies if you've already said its hard keeping track!

longestlurkerever · 04/12/2014 13:48

I will definitely find out if I can. I did last time and didn't regret it at all. On the contrary it felt more real and exciting once we knew and I was still just as desperate to meet her.

bradders85 · 04/12/2014 16:43

No we didn't find out sunshine, I like the idea of a surprise but dp would love to know!! :-)
