Good morning. Smile

Thanks for kind words re in laws. It was completely me dissolving into floods after a change of plans, I had spent the day and previous glued to the toilet brung sick, combined with fever/shivers and I had what felt like a marching band on parade in my head.

DP was hours going to pick MIL up and then arrived with MIL, SIL and DN and the thought of 3 children trapped in my messy front room was more than I could bare and once I started sobbing at the frustration of feeling so useless and shit, I couldn't stop. Blush
SIL overheard me asking DP why everyone was here when I was hoping for a quiet day or sorting and tidying and basically DP tried to explain to them but not very well do now they all think I hate DN and SIL, which is not the case, I truly value all my in laws and my DN is a lovely little girl, she's so affectionate and friendly towards me (which kids generally aren't) I'm really sad that I've offended everyone.

Anyway, apart from that DP and I have almost completed the huge clear our/move around and tidy so I'm feeling a whole lot better.

Thanks for adding my stats Kitty. Tits if you feel bad just explain that you had a real pregnancy moment and that it was really nothing about them at all, hopefully they would understand.
Just and Kitty last night I think I felt a little kick for the fist time, it was uncomfortable but not too painful, in a scan I had, I had bleeding so had some extra scans, my baby was somersaulting all over the place and at the 12 week scan kept stretching and kicking so measuring was difficult. I think I have a little gymnast on my hands but feeling the little kick last night was amazing, it was just one though so am hoping for more in the coming week! I'm 18+1 now. Don't worry about it being too soon some web sights I've read have said 16-18 for fluttering and the 18-20 for small kicks. I reckon it depends on the babies activity level. My sonographers said I might just have a really active one!

Blondie87 · 30/11/2014 08:46

Morning everyone.
It's great to hear everyone's updates. Had my 16w MW appointment on Wednesday and she didn't listen to the heartbeat. Is this normal? Would have been lovely and reassuring to have heard it. Oh well, I'm just grateful things are going ok so far. It's baby no 1 so not sure if I'm feeling movement but I think I am. Random little pokes lasting about a second- does this sound likely??
Please could someone add me to the stats? No idea how to! Living in Yorkshire, first baby due 15th May15. Thank you!

Thanks Tori. It seemed most people had a listen but obviously not all MWs do it then.

LinaDee · 30/11/2014 10:52

Hi Blondie, my MW explained that the guidelines had changed and they won't listen to HB til 22 weeks. They used to listen at 16 weeks but often couldn't find it resulting in worried mums and unnecessary scans - a cost saving exercise I suspect, which is a shame.
My MW gave me the choice as this is baby no. 2 and I knew it could be picked up at that time but was very clear that if she couldn't hear it, I wouldn't be referred for a scan. She also wrote in my notes that she checked for a hb at my request.
The movement your feeling sounds about right too. I'm just coming up for 18 weeks now and definitely feeling movement. Its not the "fluttering" or "rolling" feeling described by others, it tiny but definite wee "nudges". I usually get 4 or 5 at a time.

Justyouwaitandsee · 30/11/2014 11:23

Good to know so many of us are in the same boat! Movements started as flutters, then the 'rolling' (a bit like on a rollercoaster when you feel like your stomach has moved). Today it was very clear, strong nudges which I could feel against my hand. I think 6-7 in a row, a few seconds apart. Reading up online I am pretty sure it was hiccups!

KittyVonCatsington · 30/11/2014 12:18

Done Blondie87 Grin

Aww, baby hiccups - how cute!

Sounds like some good deals there 2preteen Smile

shinyhappyone · 30/11/2014 17:03

Am so jealous of all the flutterings and movements people can feel. I'm not quite 17 weeks yet so I'm hoping it'll come in time!
Very excited, we ordered the pram and bought a sterlizing system today. Yup, I'm excited about a sterilizer! Not sure what this little one is doing to me!! We're not well practised at this but Mothercare seem to have some pretty good deals on certain things at the moment.

Blondie87 · 30/11/2014 17:46

Thanks LinaDee and thank you Kitty! Not even thought about buying baby stuff, don't know where to start haha! Shiny I would get excited by any baby gear too!

longestlurkerever · 30/11/2014 19:04

Can I ask where you feel your movements? I just leant over and felt a jab in the stomach- quite hard, I can still feel it, but it's about level with my belly button, surely that's too high for this stage? But if it wasn't the baby what was it?

KittyVonCatsington · 30/11/2014 19:28

longest - with my little jabs, I tend to feel them slightly to the left of my belly button and a little bit lower down. The "pops" tend to be more internal and right in the middle and the "lightening strikes" closer to my fanjo. All fun and games! certainly loving my Christmas bumpage

LinaDee · 30/11/2014 21:53

My movements are still low - just above my bikini line still. No where near my belly button yet.
It's pretty much exactly where the midwife picked up the hb.
I'm only ever aware of movement if I'm lying down or sitting still, they're still so gentle!!

Turquoisetamborine · 30/11/2014 21:59

Is it ok to lie on your back for a while? Just this is when I feel the movement but I read somewhere that it can restrict blood flow. I don't mean sleep on my back just when I'm chilling!

Titsalinabumsquash · 30/11/2014 22:04

My little seahorse has a wiggle for 20+ mins every day at around 6om and then again between 9-10pm.

It's just a few mm below my bellybutton.

I lay on my back, and when I'm asleep I naturally flip onto my front Blush

shinyhappyone · 30/11/2014 22:09

I've read that you shouldn't lie on your back in your third trimester because of the pressure the weight of the bump puts on, which restricts blood flow. I took that to mean it's still ok in the second trimester!?!

Morning all! Monday- boo! Hope everyone had a good weekend?

I'm just catching up on the thread after a busy weekend of work and visitors. Re the sleeping on your back- I always only sleep on my back, and never heard that you shouldn't when pregnant!! Is this really a thing? How do you stop yourself rolling into your usual position when asleep?

Movement - I don't think I've felt anything yet, but when I visited my mw last week, she had a trainee mw with her and when showing us where to feel the uterus she said two fingers below the belly button. I was really surprised, as I expected it to be a lot lower, but nope, I felt it and it was right up there.

Well done to all the industrious among us who have started buying stuff. I'm going to leave thinking about that till after Christmas. I feel Christmas is going to be a nice break, giving me something else to focus on rather than pregnancy, and then come January, I have 20 week scan and afterwards I can think about buying stuff, and attending classes, etc.

Now to work......

piglet81 · 01/12/2014 08:53

Ugh, work - really not feeling it this morning! Wink Hope everyone has a good 1st of December.

Mslad, the not lying on your back thing is because as the baby gets bigger it can put pressure on your blood vessels and make you feel faint. Side sleeping is meant to be better if poss - have seen suggestions that you put a pillow behind the small of your back to help prevent rolling over. I don't think it's a life-or-dear thing though.

Still not feeling movements, or at least I don't think I am. 17+4 today so hopefully it'll happen soon. Smile

piglet81 · 01/12/2014 09:06

Also, am wearing my new maternity jeans today and they're the best thing ever - might never wear normal waistbands again Grin

WigglyWigglyWoo · 01/12/2014 10:07

Piglet where did you get your maternity jeans from? My normal jeans are just starting to get tight so I ordered 2 pairs online last night- from jojomamanbebe and next. Also ordered some tops and a dress for a wedding in a few weeks. Excited to get parcels of clothes in the post instead of Xmas presents for other people!

piglet81 · 01/12/2014 13:04

Hi wiggly, they're Blooming Marvellous ones from Mothercare - bootcut over-the-bump waist. V comfy!

cuphat · 01/12/2014 13:58

I'm sure I read during my last pregnancy that sleeping on your left side is preferable. There are special pillows that encourage this! Because I'd read that I felt pressure to sleep on my left which is probably one of the reasons why I didn't sleep well in the later stages...

Scottishgal78 · 01/12/2014 14:52

Hi all! I've a day off today for St Andrew's day so I've been Christmas shopping. My back is killing me now! I wore maternity tights to a night out on Saturday! A revelation! I may never wear normal tights again!
