Oh no, that sounds really scary, theone. Glad everything seems ok with baby though.

Jannywannywoohoo · 20/11/2014 10:55

Glad you're ok theone must have been a worrying time for you.

KeeperOfTheZoo · 20/11/2014 11:17

theone glad everything turned out to be ok. I agree that sex is the cause of most of our problems... Grin.

We have also been banned from dtd until my scan at 32 weeks to see if my placenta has moved - we have been naughty once and I spent the next 24 hours panicking that I was going to find blood when going for a pee but we got away with it. Not sure it's worth the stress to do it again though!

m33r · 20/11/2014 11:21

theone how traumatic! Glad everything is ok.

pickled did the pharmacist say why no soothers? I had a few with my last cold as I read the ingredients and thought they were just flavoured sugar sweeties?

I'm 23 weeks today and so looking forward to that magic 24 milestone...

theonewiththenoisychild · 20/11/2014 12:41

thanks ladies. yes it was very scary. not the bit of afternoon fun we had in mind Blush

Butterpuff · 20/11/2014 13:58

Why is 24 weeks a magical milestone m33r I've passed it and now wonder if I was missing out on some celebrating. Shock

m33r · 20/11/2014 14:02

butter its a bit morbid to think of it really but at 24 weeks the baby is 'viable'. If you deliver before 24 weeks, they don't try to treat the baby as it is too little to survive. After 24 weeks if you go into labour, they will do everything they can for the little one.

Sorry, really morbid but fact and so I can't wait to get there ... though I expect my 'counting kicks' paranoia will go through the roof!!

m33r · 20/11/2014 14:03

I should add that every week including and after 24 weeks any premmies get a progressively better chance.

m33r · 20/11/2014 14:06

Can I ask what we all think of 'counting the kicks'?

I am thinking of going on instincts and looking for patterns rather than 'counting' especially since I have a job which keeps me busy so I can go a long time 'in the zone' and not thinking of anything except the task in hand. The baby may be moving but I wouldn't necessarily know. Or is that a bit irresponsible? I just don't want my OCD to drive me mad.

DurhamRed · 20/11/2014 14:50

m33r my mw told me not to count the kicks but to monitor patterns instead. The NHS info I get on a weekly basis via email also states not to count so I'll be monitoring patterns only (I'll only freak myself out if I have to start counting kicks)

Gudgyx · 20/11/2014 16:09

Aw I'm dreading counting kicks! I'm gonna be a nervous wreck. She's not doing anything in any kind of pattern at the moment either, but has been raving like mad all day, little minx

DurhamRed · 20/11/2014 16:51

Mine too Gudgy .no particular pattern but when she gets going she has a great party in there (I swear she loves tap dancing on my bladder!)

According to mw a pattern will start to establish by week 28 when baby's movements reach their peak and then plateau.

Butterpuff · 20/11/2014 16:56

Ah, thanks m33r that's reassuring. Bump has graduated Smile I'm not going to count kicks either. So long as I feel something every day I wont worry too much. Bump tends to be active at feeding times, breakfast, lunch and dinner! Or maybe those are the only times I sit and notice. Today bump seems to have gone from kicking/punching right left to up and down. Lots of movement high and low. I think its having a go at handstands Grin

fourmonthstogo · 20/11/2014 18:49

I'm with you butter, not intending to tie myself up in knots with counting kicks, as long as I feel something every day I'll be happy. My midwife just said to look out for movement each day from 24 weeks, no mention of counting or pattern matching.

I have had such a brilliant suprising day. Went to see some prams with my mum, to check fit in the car and just generally to show mum the prams I liked fully intending to buy a second hand one. Well she was so taken with how lovely the bugaboo cameleon 3 is to push she promptly offered to pay half the price of a new one. I am feeling very lucky, excited and spoilt! It's all ordered, ready to collect in Feb!

Hope you are feeling Ok today theone

theonewiththenoisychild · 20/11/2014 21:53

im much better today fourmonths baby has been moving a lot and i have a private scan already booked for tuesday anyway so that will offer reassurance now aswell as the original purpose of finding out the sex of the baby Grin

im with you all on the kick counting i have never counted kicks apart from when ive been to antenatal day wards with reduced movements. this baby is a wriggler and even tho i have a anterior placenta i feel a lot of movement low down. if i hardly felt anything i would go into day ward to be checked but other than that im not planning to worry myself with kick counts

Twittwooo · 20/11/2014 23:30

I don't remember the counting kicks things being so high profile during my last pregnancy, but it probably was. I definitely didn't think about it too much anyway. I too have an anterior placenta so I think it'll be even more of a worry given that I'm not feeling anything a lot of the time! I saw my midwife today and she didn't mention it, so I'll not think too much about it for now! I'm still not sure whether to angle for a planned section or not - any words of advice? I had an emergency section last time due to 'failure to progress' (got stuck at 9cm dilated after about 24 hours of labour) so I don't know if my body can do it naturally!

theonewiththenoisychild · 20/11/2014 23:42

twitt sounds a lot like my labour with dd. i was induced and got stuck at 5cm dd was in distress after 26 hours labour contractions 2 mins apart. im not sure if my body can do it either. i was prepared to try a vbac with ds but didnt want to be induced due to the risks of rupture being higher with induction. plus the problems i had first time around. i wa 13 days overdue when i had my c section with ds. this time i dont have the option so will probably find out new years eve when i see my consultant when my c section will be

Twittwooo · 21/11/2014 00:04

Sounds similar, I was 2 weeks overdue as well although I went into labour naturally following acupuncture. I then had to go on the drip anyway as I think things stopped after a while. It's all a bit of a blur though - I'm in awe of those who know exactly what happened! What's the reason you don't have a choice this time? I'm seeing consultant mid December for a 15 minute appointment so I'd like to have a clear idea of what I want before then. At the moment I'm really not sure!

DontBeBlueBeARainbow · 21/11/2014 07:37

Noticing the sides of my bump is a bit veiny now, I guess that's down to being so white and the skin starting to stretch Confused checking paranoid for stretch marks already

Does anyone else check this bump website weekly for comparisons?

littlemissy12345 · 21/11/2014 08:35

Sounds like I was in the same situation as a few of you, induced then cs due to failure to progress. mine was because she was back to back and face presenting. I'm trying for a vbac but the midwife did say they won't induce you after a cs due to increased risk of rupture - this was exactly the news I wanted, so no hormones for me!

theonewiththenoisychild · 21/11/2014 09:22

twitt its because ive had 2 sections already. they wont let me try for a vbac. at least not at the hospital im going to.
littlemissy my dd was back to back too. there was just no way she was coming out and her heart rate was 56 when they decided to take me down to theatre Sad

i must be mad doing it all again after my first labour and emergency section n then my second section the spinal anesthetic wore off during the operation (they were still cutting in) this time i still want to be awake but will be making sure they give me a bit more anesthetic this time

Ellizardo · 21/11/2014 10:22

Rainbow - I was given some mum to be sanctuary stuff - the stretch mark oil and body butter are lovely. Not saying they're scientifically proven but they certainly feel nice on the skin. I don't have marks yet but I am getting that vertical line thing. It seems to have appeared overnight. Anyone else (the line not the overnight bit!)?

M27J5M · 21/11/2014 10:52

Theone that sounds so worrying but glad all is okSmile

Ill not be counting kicks but will monitor patterns, for any1 who's planning on counting kicks the wristbands the count the kicks website are great for keeping track, every time youget a little spout of kicks you move the pointer up a number!

I'm beginning to see the line appearing, very faint but defo there

Gudgyx · 21/11/2014 11:04

I wont be counting kicks. As long as I feel movement everyday, I wont panic! Think that's what I'll be doing anyway.

I'm developing the first stretchmarks :( 3 red lines right at the front of my bump. Been religiously using bump cream almost every night since 12 weeks too :( no sign of the line yet though!

KeeperOfTheZoo · 21/11/2014 11:36

twitt and theone - I have been told the same: I have the choice this time as I had an emergency section last time after back to back labour of 43 hrs then DS getting thoroughly wedged in the birth canal, but if I do choose a section this time then should there be a 3rd pregnancy I will not have a choice, it will have to be a section.

I think we all kind of know the patterns of movement from our little ones without really realising it. I notice a lot of you have said that you don't notice kicks all the time but they are more active at certain times. The patterns may change slightly as they get bigger but as long as I am aware that there is a rough pattern and little one is definitely moving well each day then I'm not going to drive myself mad counting every single kick.
