Waddle aboard ladies.

Yeah Strawberry - let me know what you come up with....seems anyone in late 30s is classified as that! I was a bit horrified, but MW laughed it off ( I was NOT laughing).....

catg83 · 05/11/2014 18:49

My mum had my brother at 34 in the 1980 s and was classed as a geriatric mother then.

It is good to know everybody else is having fun dressing your bumps. I have one pair of jeans that fit and then maternity tights to go under dresses made of VERY stretchy material that I am layering with vests underneath and cardigans under. Just found a mac in tesco for £10 to keep me dry!

Strawberryfield12 · 05/11/2014 19:01

Havent at least they spared you being called "elderly primigravida" Grin

ladydolly · 05/11/2014 19:11

I have maternity clothes... I just don't want to wear them. Only my pj's are comfy enough. My biggest problem is shoes, I can just about squeeze my fat feet into one pair of boots. I bought a maternity parka in the spring sales, a real bargain, apart from it's only actually been cool enough to wear it once so far. On top of that I normally wear a 12-14, for the coat in maternity 14 and I can't do it up anymore! Not seeming such a bargain now...

So, due date tomorrow, have -not so- secretly wanted a bonfire night baby but that's clearly not happening now!

At the ripe old age of 35 I was offered an early induction as part of a study of 'older' mothers. Although I've found pregnancy much harder than I expected and assumed it was partly down to my age but I think I'm just a bloody moaner!

DrBlondie · 05/11/2014 19:14

Congrats mumonabroom!

I thought I'd be one of the older mums to be at antenatal classes, etc at the ripe age of 34 and was expecting some negatively about having 'left it so late'. But was pleasantly surprised not to be an issue.

Another weird old wives tales - my mum shouted at me for opening the car boot cause you're not supposed to lift your arms above your head when pregnant Hmm I had to Google this when I got home and apparently the old wives tale says that you can get the cord wrapped around baby's neck if you raise your arms! Anyone else had any wacky ones?

I'm also being too cheap to buy proper maternity winter clothes. Primark large man's jumper for £6 and one of dh large hoodies are going to have to see me through!

Arkkorox · 05/11/2014 19:29

And heres me at 25 thinking ' god im so young to be a mum, hardly any of my friends have babies'

I think Ill shut up about that now.... Blush

haventgotaclue1 · 05/11/2014 19:45

Strawberry, yep you're right - a saving grace?!

Oh DrBlondie I've been told that old wives' tale too - was told by an (older) colleague before I went on may leave: "don't do any cleaning out of cupboards where you have to stretch up to reach...my Mum did that and my sister was born with the cord wrapped round her neck"....Hmm

Re the mat clothes - what's annoying me A LOT now is that I have fewer and fewer clothes that are comfy AND wearable and yet I am constantly dropping food / drink down them so meaning I have to wash them loads. I've even resorted to wearing an apron with every meal...DH thinks it's hilarious whereas it just really p*sses me off Hmm

ToniWol · 05/11/2014 20:05

Re Maternity clothes. I've found it very handy that I hadn't got rid of clothes from when I lost a lot of weight a couple of years back. I even had a couple of dressy tops that fitted over my bump for PiLs anniversary.

ladydolly · 05/11/2014 20:16

haven't that's hilarious!! I have the same problem! I have a crumb filled patch on the floor between me and the table.

Sazhoopz · 05/11/2014 20:50

My Gran was 36 when my Mum was born in the early 50's god knows what she was described as!

I've been mostly wearing summer dresses as tops, just been grateful that it hasn't been too cold so haven't had to attempt doing a coat up

Has anyone else's bump gone a bit mental with the fireworks? Baby seems overly active this evening wondering if it's reaction to the constant noise or he's trying to get in a better position for his grand appearance

Kantha · 05/11/2014 20:52

We got discharged today so are back home. Grin Currently on my bed feeding a sniffly DD. Smile

Haven't - the thing with the apron just made me LOL. Last week MIL helpfully asked me if I was cold with the bottom of my bump exposed where my tshirt no longer met my jeans. Today she has said to my boys something about Mummy needing to do some work to make her jelly tummy go away. I had been home about 2 hours!

I gave DH some very specific instructions about bringing in extra clothes for me in hospital. Bless him, it included a normal underwired bra and a size 12 skinny fit long sleeve T-shirt. Wishful thinking. He is getting better though. Third time round he can competently dress a newborn baby without the MW having to sort him out.

On age, I am 37. I have been lulled into thinking I am still quite young to be having babies as I live in the kind of affluent village in the SE where everyone has babies after 30 and 40+ is very normal. After DD was born we had to be transferred from a small hospital near us with plenty of older Mums to a large hospital in our nearest city. The average age of the women on the past natal ward there suddenly made me feel so old.

blamber · 05/11/2014 21:04

I got some maternity clothes in the sale a while ago, also winter stuff in advance. I'm glad I did! I hate it when clothes ride up. I have a couple of maternity tops, long sleeved tops and jumpers that I wear all the time now. My coats have buttons so I just do up the top one and then tie it all up with the belt.

Thisisimpossible · 05/11/2014 21:23

Haven't, what a great idea with the apron! Tonight's t-shirt has a nice chilli sauce stain down it and it was clean on.

Kantha, I'm also SE. Glad you're back at home with DD and relaxing.

Petal26 · 05/11/2014 21:34

Evening all! Trying to catch up, chatty today!

Congratulations mumonabroom

I'm 29 with DC2, we decided to go for number 1 in 2011 when I wasn't having much luck in my teaching career (as we live in a rural area where people stay at the same school for 30 years!)..so I still haven't fully qualified as I went back part time and now stopped again as I didn't want a massive age gap between the DCs. Wonder if we should have waited longer but it seemed like an obvious time for us. Most of my mummy friends that I have made through having DD are older. But we got married at 23/24 and have been together for 10 years so probably doing things a bit earlier anyway?

Regarding sweeps... I had 2 'attempts' last time that were painful and did nothing so will be declining this time...but that's just my experience...

drblondie I lifted DD onto my shoulders at fireworks display on Saturday so arms well above my head Blush

Maternity wear wise I'm still managing stretchy msternity dresses and leggings with a cardi over the top, definitely needing to wash more as well, getting hot and spilling food too, haha!

Had a lovely day by myself today. MIL and BIL took DD out for the day so I went out by myself. Coffee shop with a book, two nursing dress bargains in h&m, walked for miles around the shops so hopefully I've had an effect on babies position and wiggled him right down!
Felt like public property today more than ever. Every shop assistant seemed to want to know everything about my bump, when I am due, how am I feeling, what I am having, actually got asked in House of Fraser by the assistant what I was going to call him... don't know if I am just being grumpy, but seriously Angry

pinkgirlythoughts · 05/11/2014 21:40

I'm finding the winter maternity clothes I wore with DS are coming in handy now, but I'm bigger generally than I was then, so the knitted dress I used to wear all the time is now like a mini-dress, and my non-pregnancy leggings are actually still more comfy than the maternity ones!
As I don't have a coat that fits, I'm wearing DH's big hoody with my coat open over the top of it. Unfortunately, he's such a skinny minnie that wearing his trackies isn't an option- I grew out of them months ago!

Kantha, I remember a similar comment about my having to lose the jelly belly from Grand-MIL when DS was a day old and I was still in hospital with him Shock

amy83firsttimer · 05/11/2014 21:42

With regards to maternity clothes I'm as ever so grateful to SIL who gave me all her old ones -at the time I didn't appreciate it overly but now I would be really stuck without them as she had 2 winter pregnancies. I wore her maternity coat out tonight to the fireworks. Lovely to have stuff that does up!

Fingers crossed the bangs scare it out.

Glad you're home kantha - I had weight loss comment yesterday from DM - not even had the effing baby yet!!!!

There's a postnatal thread now btw - greenstone looks a little lonely over there.

Let's hope full moon does the trick for some of us.

Yep, yep, yep to food down top. Sunday's roast was particularly impressive in the number of gravy stains my top had by the end... 7!

Thisisimpossible · 05/11/2014 22:14

Gawd, it feels like the baby is trying to dig its way out tonight. Excruciating!

Same here thisis but it's been happening for a week or two now, so clearly it's not doing much!

Thisisimpossible · 05/11/2014 23:23

It had better be doing something useful down there. It's no fun! I've had it on and off for about a week or so, but tonight it's moved to a completely different level. DP has actually been looking concerned at the involuntary shrieks I've been emitting. Wink

excitedforbaba · 06/11/2014 00:19

Thisis I have also been letting some random shrieks and some very choice words beginning with F for the past week or so! It feels like baby is burrowing or something!? Hmm

Also feeling like I'm being stabbed with a hot poker in my pelvis on occasion too!

Kantha · 06/11/2014 06:33

The full moon tonight was so bright, it lit up the fields behind the garden and I could see mist hanging in the trees. Beautiful. Surely it will be enough to get some of these babies moving.

I have found sweeps useful this time and last time. Definitely made me crampy and lost my plug as a result. However I think you have to be favourable in the first place for it to do anything. For me I don't find it painful, but according to the MWs I have a high pain threshold because I didn't flinch when the cannula went in.

haventgotaclue1 · 06/11/2014 06:36

Morning all Grin any new appearances over night?

Hope everyone is doing well - must be nice to be home kantha. i woke up at 1.30 this morning absolutely freezing - got really scared that my shivering was hurting bean in some way. Ended up going back to sleep in my dressing gown after dh had practised his labour instructions on me re deep slow breathing. ...at least i know that he will know what to say when the time comes Wink

amy83firsttimer · 06/11/2014 07:29

Google says full moon tonight?
