Tilly accidents do happen so just enjoy it and it is ok to get excited xx

SarfEasticated · 26/01/2015 16:53

Can I join in? I'm nearly 47 so may be too old! I have just had a positive pregnancy test... have older child (7) already this was not planned!

MrsSmithChips · 26/01/2015 19:30

Hi, I'm new to Mumsnet and posted yesterday and a couple of people suggested I take a look at the 'older mums' thread, so here I am!

I'm 41 and hubby is 48 and we had a bit of a shocking surprise on NYE, when we discovered that I'm pregnant!! I say shocking surprise because a) I was on the mini pill and anal about taking it correctly and b) because our children are more or less grown up!! We both have children from previous marriages, hubby has 2 girls 19 & 24 and I have 1 daughter aged 15!!

After we got over the initial shock we are now getting used to the idea of becoming new parents again at our age! Although, I have to say,I am a bit apprehensive about being pregnant again after 15 years!!! But we are both quite excited aswell. It will be very strange going back to baby talk and baby proofing the house again after all this time!! I still pinch myself from time to time to make sure I'm not dreaming!!

I'm now 9 weeks plus 1 day. We had our booking in appointment last week in which the midwife put her foot in it a little bit. We were in the waiting room along with a couple that were probably in their early 30's. She came out and asked them but they were waiting for another midwife. She was obviously looking for me but looked around the corner to see if anyone else was waiting and then said to hubby and I, "are you two ok there?" As if to say that we can't be waiting for her because we're too old!! She looked a bit embarrassed when she realised that it was me she was actually looking for!!

Gingerbreadlady1 · 26/01/2015 20:29

Yay! New old birds, you're most welcome here. We have a wide spread of ages with, correct me if I'm wrong ladies, the youngest at 36. It's been a bit quiet the last few days as very sadly, some ladies had to leave the thread.

I'm sure we'll all be chatty again soon!

Quite a few of us know each other from the ttc threads so we will be in awe of your accidental pregnancies. Congratulations ladies, how exciting/terrifying!

You've made me feel better ginger with that comment, I am 37 and def seen as 'old' where I work, where many if the girls have babies in their early 20's.

Welcome to the new old birds, its great to have new ladies join.

So....I told my manager today, and to my surprise he was really good about it he's usually a total nobber so that was a relief!

Am amazed that I will get to not go to work for several months!! Can't wait!

Lolababy00 · 26/01/2015 20:56

Welcome to the new old girls congratulations on your pregnancies Smile

Tranquilitybaby · 26/01/2015 21:39

So sorry for your loss horsey x

Welcome newbies, hop on board and post away x congrats

mustbemad71 · 27/01/2015 08:07

Hi girls - another newbie here! I'm 43, POAS on Saturday and it was positive! Darker yesterday - by very early days here as only 4w1d. Due on 7 Oct I think. This will be my third but first with DP - my girls are teenagers so it's been a while! I keep veering from tentatively excited to bloody terrified!

Anyone had the harmony test? I'd be really grateful to hear from anybody who went for it. Very early days here so not going to get too excited although I've done a bit if Internet surfing and I'm pleased to see that maternity wear has moved on a bit since 2000! Grin

MrsSmithChips · 27/01/2015 09:28

Hi, mustbemad71! Congratulations! I found this thread yesterday. I'm 41, 9 weeks plus 2 days pregnant and I had my daughter, who is now 15, back in 2000, so it's been a very long time for me too so I know how you feel!! My emotions range from excited to terrified aswell. It's going to be strange getting back into baby talk etc! Good luck with your pregnancy. Smile

Lolababy00 · 27/01/2015 09:48

Congratulations mustbemad I had a 15 year age gap between my 3rd and 4th child and for the first four months of my pregnancy I did think "what am I doing" but now she's here it's lovely and now we are having another. Also it has brought us all together as a family, boys spending time downstairs rather than on Xbox .

mustbemad71 · 27/01/2015 09:55

Thanks ladies. Will try to relax and take the "what will be will be" approach! Grin

MrsSmithChips · 27/01/2015 10:16

I'm probably being stupid here, but can anyone tell me how I keep up to date with this thread without having to scroll through all the messages to get to the latest one please?

mustbemad71 · 27/01/2015 10:41

MrsS if on the app hit the plus icon and flip the thread. Otherwise you can navigate to the last page Smile

mustbemad71 · 27/01/2015 10:42

PS don't feel stupid - I cant enter my stats despite the really clear and helpful instructions!

Snooky17 · 27/01/2015 11:01

Wow had to catch up on quite a bit, so sad that we have had some losses but lots of newbies and is great to see some (even older than me) new people. Welcome and congratulations, my oldest is 20 it does feel weird to know I'm grandparent age and having a baby.

HexyQueen · 27/01/2015 16:27

Yay more peeps! Congrats & welcome!

mustbemad71 · 27/01/2015 20:26

Old birds advice please: when did you tell your family - parents and older children? In my twenties I'd blabbed before we dry on the stick but feel rather different now! I know I shouldn't give a damn but I'm abit anxious about how some people will react. I'll be 44 and DP nearly 47! I think my DDs will be excited but equally they could be - "urgh mum you are having sex - how gross"!

stubbornstains · 27/01/2015 21:15

mustbemad- surely the only response to that possible comment would be: "YES ACTUALLY! I'M HAVING LOADS AND LOADS OF SEX- REALLY SLOPPY, SQUELCHY SEX TOO!" Grin

After the 12 week scan is traditional.....?

I waited until after the 16 week appt. to tell my parents, but I told most friends after the 12 week scan. Quite telling about my relationship with my parents, that Grin.

HexyQueen · 27/01/2015 21:16

We didn't tell anyone until 14 weeks in the end. As I have had a previous miscarriage, that kinda ramped up the worry/uncertainty for me so I wanted to wait until had the 12 week scan. We were also worried how 17 year old step-son would react as we were having shitloads of problems with him & his response to everything at the time. In the end we liked it being our secret so waited till 14 weeks, told DSS first, expecting fireworks but he initially seemed quite pleased. Then told DD (5, v excited) and knowing what a blabbermouth she is went straight round to parents to tell them. I'd been so very ill (with hyperemesis) that knowing I was pregnant was a relief to my parents, so didn't get any of the "is this a good idea at your age/with your illnesses" chat that usually wouldve been expected from them.

When to tell peeps is a very personal thing at any age.

mustbemad71 · 27/01/2015 22:30

Thanks girls! Good advice, although my mum will probably kill me if I leave it that long. If she doesn't hear from me by 10am each day she rings - "just checking you are still alive"!

Lolababy00 · 28/01/2015 16:47

Fell over today on decking ... Really slippery. Hoping ever expanding bottom cushioned baby!!

stubbornstains · 28/01/2015 17:19

Ouch lola! I think your little bean should be very well protected inside your pelvis still....you didn't fall directly on your tummy, did you? Sounds like it's your bottom you've got to worry about! Smile.

Gingerbreadlady1 · 28/01/2015 17:31

Ouchey lola, my mahoosive arse could cushion an elephant. Baby will be well protected in there, takes massive trauma to get anywhere near them.

Well ladies, I'm on the cho choo heading down sath baby to visit my hypno birthing instructor best mate. Dp will join us too, will report back. The little research I've done so far is very reassuring.
