Sunbathing, I had an external scan at 7+5 (7+3 by LMP). I just made sure my bladder was very full (in fact the sonographer said well done to me!). It was private though - people seem more likely to have internal ones at epus. Hope you're ok.

Fingers crossed for you, MrsK, I'd definitely go earlier if it doesn't stop soon.

It is a really difficult one re having to tell people who have been ttc for ages or had a mc. A friend was a month ahead of me and had a mc. She already knew I was pregnant before she had the mc. I feel so bad for her and I'm glad I don't have to break the news to her.

Loiterer · 30/10/2014 13:11

Hello ladies, sorry I've not been posting - I've been feeling really lousy, but have caught up now.

to all the new people - lovely to see this thread filling up!

Well I booked a drs appointment for today, thinking I was exactly 6 weeks. I've come out feeling a bit disappointed and sad tbh. The Dr was fine and referred me for a midwife appointment, did all the blood pressure/weight tests i'd expected, but she said i'd calculated my EDD wrong and I'm only 5 +2. She also warned me not to tell anyone as 'miscarriage is so common' and happens 1/3 first pregnancies.

I wanted to talk to her about how crap I've been feeling since I found out and whether it's an indication this could be a twin pregnancy (DH was a twin) but she said I'd just have to wait and see at the scan, which would be between 12-15 weeks.

I don't know, just feeling a bit low and sick and like I have soooo long to go before I can be confident I'm actually going to have a baby.

MrsKrios · 30/10/2014 13:18

sorry for tmi but it's getting heavier but the blood is a brown color not red. Should I be worried do you think?

Mrs K I would call the EPU now. Explain what's happening and that it is getting heavier. It's brown blood though which I think is better than red as it means its old?

Got everything crossed for you.

Jackiebrambles · 30/10/2014 13:30

Sorry you feel a bit low Loiterer, we are at about the same stage, I'm 5+5 today. And I feel fucking sick as a dog! I think I'm a bit further along because I ovulated early but am just going by my LMP.

Like you I feel like this is all taking forever, waiting for booking in appt, then there will be another wait for the scan.

And I really don't want to tell people before the scan (my mum and dad know but only because they were trying to give me wine!) but I'm bloated and sick feeling and look like death!

Loiterer · 30/10/2014 13:39

Mrs K- sorry to hear you're having bleeding. If it were me I'd call the EPU if it's getting heavier, even if it's only brown blood, to give you peace of mind.

Thanks Jackie and sunbathing, she wasn't unsupportive as such, just a bit blunt and practical about it. Though I've felt quite emotional the last couple of weeks so that's not helping. I don't want to tell anyone either before the scan, only DH and my mum know, so it just doesn't feel real! How long did you all wait for your first MW appointment?

ots · 30/10/2014 13:48

Afternoon everyone. Feeling a bit more positive about our housing situation. I know we'll get it sorted and will be settled long before the baby is due. The baby we lost would have been due at the end of December, so only 2 weeks before we have to be out of here. I would be worrying so much right now if I was still pregnant with that one!

MrsK sorry to hear you are bleeding. I agree with pp, ring the epu for advice. They may agree to scan you today or tomorrow.

sun I had a vivid dream that I had a MC last night and woke up with mild cramps. Its a horrible worrying time being pregnant after MC. And as for the lack of symptoms, remember you've had this before and then they came back with a vengeance Grin. Also as we get closer to 12 weeks the placenta starts to take over so you may find you start to feel better now.

loiterer mine was at 8+4 but some are a lot later. I had to see the GP first and she booked my 12 week scan so the two weren't related in my case. I think it varies a lot though.

Loiterer, I had to wait till 8 weeks, however with DD you didn't see one till your 12 week scan!

ememsmum · 30/10/2014 14:45

MrsE I vividly remember my sister (4yo at the time) telling my maternal grandparents "mummy's having another baby". There was a bit of huffing and eye-rolling. My grandmother may have said " that's nice". My parents couldn't really afford to have a large family which probably contributed to the disapproval. My parents got a lot of stick for having a big family, even though they were quite common in our town. Can imagine a generation later you're even more of a talking point. It's really no one's business though.

ememsmum · 30/10/2014 14:49

When I was pg with DD the procedure was see GP at 6 weeks who then referred to MW who I saw at 8 weeks. This time GP won't see me til 8 weeks (actually I'll be 8+5). Not sure when I see the MW. GP receptionist said it's a double appt involving lots of forms etc so am wondering if I'll be skipping a pre-scan MW appt altogether.

cuphat · 30/10/2014 14:58

And when I say that you didn't see one till your 12 week scan, I didn't see anyone at all until 12 weeks! Just made a phone call to the hospital at 8 weeks or so to book the 12 week scan and midwife booking in appointment!

Emem that's just it. I think though I'm going to email mum next week after the scan. I've got a private scan on Saturday. I've tried the letter approach with dsis before but it didn't go well. That relationship is sadly written off now. She can't have any more children. She has just one ds, he's 13. But mum might react better to an email. She only opens her emails at her desk and never on the run so at least I know she's got a good 5 minutes to read it and take it in. She's always stood by me, but just don't want her disapproval. Stupid I know it shouldn't bother me but it does. She may look at it differently now we are more financially secure. I think almost having to deliver last time shock her up.

Last time I was under midwife led care. I just saw my community midwife throughout my pregnancy, up until she referred me to the hospital at 38 weeks for a scan for suspected breech baby. With consultant led I'd have had to go to the hospital to see the consultant before that point. I'm not sure what I'll be this time as I've had a previous section and will be having another one this time. I'll need to see the consultant at some point but I hope I can just see my community midwife before and after then.

Phryn · 30/10/2014 15:41

Hi sunbathing. I'm not sure on what the difference is (more monitoring perhaps or input/suggestions about what you might need with regards to managing pregnancy and birth - but i imagine it varies according to the reason you are under consultant care).

At my booking in appt the midwife said she was going to refer me to the consultant as I have hypermobility syndrome (basically all my ligaments are a bit loose and I tend to dislocate bits of myself). This can be problematic when combined with the loosening effect of pregnancy hormones that allow the pelvis to change shape for birth. I'm happy with the referral as which you can have a reletively uncomplicated pregnancy and be hypermobile you can also be prone to SPD, pelvis issues and need to be careful about birthing positions. You can also have a shorter than average labour (yes please to that aspect!)

Are you concerned about consultant care for any particular reason?

Jackiebrambles · 30/10/2014 15:45

Sunbathing I had an EMCS last time so I think I will be referred to a consultant for that reason, but not sure if that is the same as consultant led care!

Jackiebrambles · 30/10/2014 15:50

Phryn I had SPD in my last pregnancy, but it only started around 32 week-ish. It was really sore though, am hoping it won't start earlier this time.
