I'm having the Harmony in London, got to pay for it but worth it for peace of mind for me.

AnythingNotEverything · 28/10/2014 09:26

MrsE I gained weight while bf too. I was straight back into my ore pregnancy jeans within a week or birth and they still fit now, a year on Hmm

I have a theory that for me a lot of weight gain and loss is hormonal. I ate like a horse in my last pregnancy but was all bump, and when I dropped to two bf a day I lost half a stone overnight.

I'm also worried about GD this time. I may have had it by the end last time, although as dd was under 10lb I'm not automatically in the at risk category. I might request a GTT this time although our local midwife is a crap unfortunately. I suspect I'm heading for a 10lb baby. We had problems with low blood sugars last time and I'd rather be prepared this time around. I'm also irrationally terrified of shoulder dystocia. I never thought is find this scarier the more times I did it.

Good look to Jenny and your booking app this morning.

My symptoms seem to have temporarily vanished. I'm sure this is normal.

Sorry. I'm a real bag of fun this week, aren't I?! Hate to whinge. Will have a word with myself.

Thinking of those struggling with half term, sickness, and fatigue. Especially thinking of Notsoold. Hope you're doing ok lovely.

ememsmum · 28/10/2014 09:27

I had a phone consultation with a GP yesterday to discuss my nausea. It's definitely worse than last time and really impacting everything I do, plus I have lost 2kgs which is a bit of a concern. I spend every waking hour trying to suppress the strong urge to vomit. Anyway, this GP, whom I have never met, first suggested seabands. Honestly Angry. Then she said she couldn't prescribe me any medication. I explained I was VERY reluctant to take meds, however if there was something I could take at night so I could get more than 2 hours sleep I felt it may help me get through the day. She gave me a script for 20 promethazine which I ended up buying OTC for half the price (and double the tablets). I apprehensively took one last night and am amazed at the difference. DD cried out several times in the night and I was able to go back to sleep immediately. Plus I felt ok on waking up this morning, if a little dopey. Back to feeling nauseous now but not as bad as I was yesterday. I think a better nights sleep has helped.

Jackiebrambles · 28/10/2014 09:33

Have you booked the Harmony test already Tranquility?

I think its just an extra blood test that they send off for testing, but it was developed at the hospital I go to so I think they are doing it for all mums over 35. Its really accurate apparently and I would assume would remove the requirement for amnio?

AnythingNotEverything · 28/10/2014 09:37

Emem I'm really glad some better sleep has helped. Hope it continues.

BingoBonkers · 28/10/2014 09:40

We will be having the Harmony test too Tranq. I've had private scans at this clinic both times previously and the quality of the scan and what they check for is amazing and really gave me peace of mind and worth the money. Lentils for the rest of the year mind! You also get your blood test results back the same day. I think the Harmony side of it means a wait for results as they send off to the States if I recall correctly? Plus it's non invasive which is hugely attractive.

Tranquilitybaby · 28/10/2014 10:05

No if all on Thursday then I'll book. Yes it's 99% accurate for Downs and in the 90's for the other Trisomies. It takes two weeks to get the results.

Slacktacular · 28/10/2014 11:04

Sorry to hear about all the queasiness. I'm not feeling sick (yet) and hopefully won't as I'm phobic about puking!
I'm home today trying to rest up as I'm having small amounts of brown spotting on and off and have been for nearly 2 weeks now. I guess there's nothing that can be done at

JennyOfOldstones · 28/10/2014 11:07

Booking in appt was fine, no risk factors apparently. Thought the midwife would weigh me but she asked me how much I weighed, very trusting of her.

I thought about Harmony too tranquility it makes so much sense scientifically. Also you get the results in 10 days I think and they do a scan at 10 weeks so you have an accurate answer by just over 11 weeks. I think it's £400 at the London clinic but more expensive locally. Can't decide.

Tranquilitybaby · 28/10/2014 11:29

If you have no pain slack, it's quite normal to have brown spotting at first. If you get one sided pain or shoulder tip though, get checked out urgently. X

Tranquilitybaby · 28/10/2014 11:30

Glad it went well Jenny x

Slacktacular · 28/10/2014 11:40

Thanks Tranquility - my last pregancy was so breezy - I didn't have anything weird or wonderful happen, so I'm fretting about this spotting but figured that it's probably fine. I guess it could be one of those things that's reasonably common but nobody tells you about it if they're keeping their pregnancy secret in the 1st tri.

Gr33dyeggs · 28/10/2014 13:18

Hi slacktacular.
Sorry to hear about the spotting. I was told in a previous pregnancy to go to A And E if the blood became red with or without pain. I have heard of some women spotting throughout pregnancy with happy outcomes.

chicarubia · 28/10/2014 13:22

Hi everyone!
I just discovered this group and am really pleased as it's difficult when you're not able to tell people.
A bit about me. I am due on 6th-11th June with my first baby. I will be 39 by then so one of the older ones I think.
I have also been binging on crisps- barbecue hula hoops in my case- and really exhausted but also with trouble sleeping. I only have queasiness rather than full on morning sickness so I guess I'm pretty lucky there.
We have already had 2 scans as we had a private 7 week scan to check for a heart beat. The very thorough sonographer picked up that I had a small sub chorionic hematoma. It is basically a blood clot in the uterus.
I haven't had any bleeding but my GP referred me to the local EPU anyway.
Saw a lovely consultant this morning who said all is fine and he wouldn't have even mentioned the hematoma to me. He expects it to get absorbed by my body. I was so relieved!
We are also doing the Harmony test at 10 weeks privately. The consultant told me it is diagnostic although it's not being officially called that. That means it tells you either way, in the same way an amnio does but without risk of miscarriage. Bonus is we will know the gender by 12 weeks :-)
Great to meet you all!

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 28/10/2014 13:48

On my word, I'm so tired!! Never known anything like it. I don't think my sickness is worse than last time, but the tiredness is something else, and I think it makes the sickness seem worse with it, iyswim...?

Having said that, tiredness aside my symptoms have eased off today so of course I'm panicking about that. Tranquility, my DH seems to think that as everything was fine at the scan there's no reason for it not to be now, too. Bloody laid back bloke Wink

Trying to have a lazy hour now while dd naps but feeling the guilt of the housework...

Hello and welcome to new people Smile

ots · 28/10/2014 14:16

Hi all, hope your days are going ok. Had a really shit day today. Our landlord has been doing work on all the flats in our building, and a few months ago told us he may need to give us notice to leave soon. Then a week or so ago, he told DH he could continue the work without us having to move out, but then today gave us notice to leave :( . We have until 17th January to find somewhere else. Trying not to stress about it as I know thats not good for the baby, but seriously worrying :(. Although I must say, its quite refreshing to be worrying about something that isn't pregnancy related!

Well he said he needs to start the work asap really as he needs to pull most of the floor out in the flat above us. He says he needs to put steel supports in our flat to support the above floors. Worst timing ever.
We're already on the council housing list but haven't been getting anywhere due to having a home already. I'm hoping now that this will help us to get a council place. Private renting around here is just so expensive :(

cuphat · 28/10/2014 14:29

Oh dear, ots. I'm sure it'll all work out ok in the end.

I haven't caught up on the thread properly as I've been ill for a couple of days. Had to take a couple of paracetamol even though I wanted to avoid it as I had a high temp on and off. Feeling so much better today though.

No crisp cravings here (but then I didn't get any cravings at all last time).

Jenny, my midwife didn't even ask how much I weigh, never mind weigh me. Suits me though as I just go by my clothes.

Jackiebrambles · 28/10/2014 14:56

So sorry to hear that Ots, definitely try not to stress (as hard as that is!). Fingers crossed the council come through for you.

Cuphat paracetamol are fine though, so don't worry. Glad you feel better.

I'm still feeling a bit sick, although eating constantly seems to help a lot.

I'm dog tired too, despite having early nights all weekend/yesterday. I commute into London and was walking up the tube steps this morning and it took all my energy to drag myself up. And that's in the morning! Christ knows what I'll be like tonight... roll on 2nd trimester...

JennyOfOldstones · 28/10/2014 15:25

ots that's awful, I hope you get something sorted soon.

I just got some travel sickness bands and I think I feel a bit better probably just placebo effect though!

ots · 28/10/2014 15:28

Thanks ladies, hopefully we'll get something sorted soon. Would like to be settled by Christmas ideally but not sure how likely that is :(

ots · 28/10/2014 15:35

Jenny I tried some travel sickness bands but they made me feel even worse for some reason. I've heard loads of people say they worked for them though.

Smugfearnleyshittingstool · 28/10/2014 15:56

Hi everyone, congrats to newbies, a nice full bus we are now! I'm much more relaxed than last week as feeling much sicker now, almost constantly, loads of saliva( dribble pillow eww) and constipated quite badly too which is not very pleasant.
Went for my private scan today and..... I've messed up as booked online for next tues not today!! Dp not really impressed but able to laugh about it now! So another week to wait for that. My dc have been with their dad since Friday so I'm looking forward to them returning soon, luckily he's given them a roast lunch so easy toasties for tea I think, then a snuggle and film ( while I doze as constantly knackered!) before early night hopefully.
I also didn't find the magnets very helpful with sickness and offer thought they made it worse. Wish there was something tho, luckily im not actually sick though like some people are, I can't imagine how hideous HG must be.
