morning everyone........gotta move my bum and get into town today, but its SOOOOOOOO much effort!!!

my double buggy was delivered to my mums yesterday (stupid internet systems dont have my addy on yet as new build, highly inconvienient!!!) so cant wait to get over there and have a good nose at it........should really pull my finger out and get dds 'big' buggy on ebay as wont be needing it anymore, and dotn have room to store 'just in case!' lol!

gotta ring docs today to book an appointment with them for next week, hopefully will be able to feel if lo has turned.

would anyone know if its dangerous to deliver a breech baby naturally? i really dont want a section, but my MIL reckons delivering breech is dangerous for baby.

NatalieJane · 13/10/2006 10:02

Stacey, I think the risks are higher for a breech delivery, it can take a lot longer, it is supposed to be more painful but I would guess that would depend on the person and exactly what position the baby is in, I think there would be a much higher chance of having to have an emergency section, the baby is more likely to get stressed because of it taking so much longer, and him being squeezed in the wrong places for too long etc. so it is a scary thought (or it would be for me!) but, I know a few people who were born breech, and have read and seen lots of breech birth stories, so it isn't anywhere near impossible. There is still time for your baby to move round yet though, it ain't over till the fat lady sings and all that...

staceym11 · 13/10/2006 10:25

lol, well 4 weeks 3 days officially, its so close now, yet not close enough! lol

NatalieJane · 13/10/2006 10:28

Don't forget as well, all of the books and everything say that with baby no.2+ they mostly won't engage properly until labour actually starts, so your baby could be swimming around having a whale of a time!

staceym11 · 13/10/2006 12:04

probably, just panickly coz dd was head down and engaged from around 20 weeks, she knew where she was supposed to be! lol

arrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhh why when i want to go to town does dd decide she wants and early nap to bugger up my day?????

MeAndMyBoy · 13/10/2006 12:46

Charlee - I really hope you get some helpful advice and the consultant listens properly to you this morning.

NJ sorry had to lol along with Debbsy . You can loose bits of your plug for weeks before hand and it will be replaced. I didn't have a proper show until I was about 6cm's dilated and it was very bloody and quite big, but I have been having snotty type shows for the last week or so, probably did last time just wasn't aware of what was happening iykwim.

Stacey I think the biggest risk for a breech birth is that the largest part (ie the baby's head) comes out last and the risk is whether there is enough space for it to come out. You can birth a breech baby safely without a C-section it just needs different skills from the midwife to a head first delivery. Are you doing any foetal positioning? there are some threads on here about it and I've seen a few websites around as well - things like sitting backwards on a straight backed chair, and being on your hands and knees (actually that's ringing a bell think you are aren't you)

Debbsy glad you got some more sleep last night - it does just give us an idea of what's to come though lol.

I ended up on the sofa last night - I've got a stupid cough - DH recons I'm going to cough the baby out the way I am going. So i went to sleep on the sofa so DH didn't get a disturbed night - lol DS was up twice and I slept through it and DH had to get up and see to him so he's shattered today and I slept fairly well . I actually felt guilty that DH had to get up to DS - silly really.

Right off to Ikea on a baby buying spree - yippee

Charleesunnysunsun · 13/10/2006 13:13

Hi im back

I saw a very nice lady, it turns out all the protine from my urine sample is gone but its now very high in blood. She thinks i may have kidney or bladder stones and has requested an emergency scan. This would explain the water retention, vomiting and backache, this in turn is making me not sleep resulting in headaches.

She has also given me some extremley strong painkillers and put me on 24 hr bed rest on the promise that if i get a fraction worse i have to go back into hospital. She said the painkillers are likley to send me high as a kite.

But there not going to induce now as baby is fine to give me optimum time to recover and sleep before going through labour as im not really fit enoguh to go through it at the moment.

I have to see my midwife on Wednesday and go back to the consultant on Friday and again the Friday after.

I will pop in from time to time to keep you all updated. Take care

Stacey - I hope you made it into town OK in the end, I was going to go for a bit of a break from the house, but then thought nope, I'll set the alarm to wake me up in plenty of time to get DS from school, and have a snooze on the sofa, I thought I was doing really well until I got up, now feel really shattered and am achy from lying in the same position.
MAMB - I am so glad I am not the only one with a snotty fanny LMAO Sorry everyone! LOL I have had a bit more come out, but nothing else has happened, I haven't even had many BH today let alone proper contractions, I am sure they will arrive this evening though...
Charlee - it sounds like this appointment went a lot better than the last few, at least having some answers gives you something to work towards, whereas before they had just left you in limbo really didn't they?! You make sure you do as they say and stay in bed - or at least relax as much as possible. And I agree with Mygirl, it would be no good you trying to cope with labour and then a newborn on top of how you are feeling, though I am sure there is a bit of you that was looking forward to getting on with it.

40Weeks · 13/10/2006 15:06

NatalieJane - am new to MN, this is my first post. Have a question that probably sounds stupid but how do you know what the BHs feel like? Had a few period pains over the last week or so, not sure if thats normal and most people say they are painless and now it feels like baby is constantly on the move - but could this be mistaken for BH?? DD 17 Nov - what about everyone else?

CattyB · 13/10/2006 15:12

Morning.

Stacey sorry to hear baby is breech, mine still is and I'm 38 weeks today. I'm going to the hospital on Wed for them to try and turn baby head down - which does carry some risks but I'd rather do that and get the homebirth I'm planning than have to transfer in labour if baby hasn't turned by then.
I am very anti-medicalisation of childbirth and there is no way I would consent to a section unless lifes were in danger. There is no real reason to section a breech baby - woman have been birthing them quite the thing forever. There is a very slight increased chance of complications but the recent large study wasn't as accurate as it makes out - as it takes into account all breech births inc. prem babies (which obviously are at higher risk anyway). If labour starts on its own, progresses well and you are able to remain active baby should be ok.
Having discussed it with my midwife (should baby not turn) I am going for an active vaginal breech birth. I do tend to have larger babies but given this is no 4 it should just fall out - whichever way it comes (got a birth canal like a tunnel )!

In the meantime I'm crawling about and lying with my chest on the bed and bum in the air as much as possible to help encourage baby to turn. Also seeing a reflexologist and accupuncturist next week before going to hospital. They say pulsatilla as a homoeopathic remedy is worth trying.

NatalieJane · 13/10/2006 15:17

Hi 40weeks, BH, for me at least, feels like the baby is pushing his bum out really far, it tightens the uterus and so my whole bump goes very hard, under my boobs grows bigger, and I get a feeling of pressure towards the back of my bum. It doesn't hurt, it does feel uncomfortable, but at the same time I quite enjoy it, because if it happens to wake the baby up and he starts moving, you can make out exact body parts, which I love LOL

I am due on the 25th, if you look a little way down the thread there is a list of stats with everyones due date and details, some have even added birthday and weight predictions, feel free to add yourself to it Do you know the sex of your baby, or have you kept it a secret?

Bethbe · 13/10/2006 15:19

Good afternoon!

I had a M/W appointment yesterday and guess what Stacey? The baby was 3/5 engaged, - just as it was 4 weeks ago at my last when I got so exited, and so things are just as you said they would be grrrrrrrr!

Also had an active birth class - which was fantastic, - although I couldn't sleep last night after having seen the water-birth video. Do we really have to go through that discomfort?

NatalieJane · 13/10/2006 15:22

40weeks, sorry meant to say, the period pains are perfectly normal, nothing to worry about, you might find that the baby is moving about more if he has come down into your pelvis, known as engaging, it gives him a bit more room to move and so he makes the most of it! If you found your bump got a little lower, found it easier to breathe, less heartburn, an achy feeling in your pelvis especially when walking, this is most likely to be the baby moving down

40Weeks · 13/10/2006 15:31

Thanks NatalieJane - I think they are BHs then as its exactly the way your describe - feels like baby's bum is sticking out! Dont know the sex of baby, we wanted a suprise although now I am just bursting to know!
Also love feeling the baby move and its very busy now all the time and funnily enough, although I still get heartburn, its not as bad as it was so maybe baby has moved down. Not that the miserable midwife would tell me the baby's position when I saw her though! She said she didnt like to say either way, even though the other two lovely MWs I saw have always told me what is where....she must have been having a bad day.....

harrogatemum · 13/10/2006 15:36

surely it cant be long before someone on this thread actually has a baby.......I am really surprised we have got to (almost) mid October with no-one!

PS I dont plan on it being me, although who knows?

NatalieJane · 13/10/2006 15:44

LOL 40weeks, don't get me started on midwives, I am doing my best to stay away from them for as long as possible this time!

Harrogatemum, I said exactly the same last week, Octobers thread started having babies in early September, September thread started having babies in July (if I remember rightly!)!! We seem to have a bunch of very lazy babies, I wonder if we will make it all of the way till November with none born?! I might be the first to go, but probably the first in December!

Bethbe · 13/10/2006 15:48

40weeks: Sounds like the M/W didn't know!

40Weeks · 13/10/2006 15:55

The MW was very snooty and said, 'I never like to tell you the position as the baby still has time to move' (I wasnt asking what the position the baby would be in 5 weeks down the line, I just like to know' and so I said, 'Well the other midwive always tell me' and she said, 'All I can tell you is whether or not the baby is in the right position' and I said, 'Ok, so is it?' and she nodded - so what was the difference between saying, 'the baby is head down' or 'the baby is in the right position' ??? I DESPAIR! I asked her if she knew which MWs were on call over my due date/week as I am planning a home birth and she said no. And then snapped, 'The rota is the same every month' so she could have told me if she had wanted to but someone obviously peed in her coffee that morning as I have never seen such a sour face!
