Bonjourminou I would say it's probably a lot to do with the smell too..we keep a separate bin that closes in the foyer close to the door for DS's nappys ..never went out and bought one of the "nappy bins" but learned quick not to toss them in the kitchen bin as our house is so tiny it would stink up the whole place whenever we opened it lol.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/10/2014 21:09

I have a mini sudocrem in my bag at all times, magic on pretty much everything!

BrixtonBunny · 10/10/2014 21:11

Ooh the uppababy looks great - I just have no idea where to start when it comes to things like prams! I've taken a note of that one though. I'll be wanting lots of advice from you ladies who already have DC. Smile

We haven't bought anything yet - guess we'll wait until 20 week scan (though mine is booked in for 20+6, so annoying). My grandma sent us a tiny hat and booties though - our first baby things. They are SO TINY! I can't believe any person could be that small (though knowing the size of DPs head it's possible the teeny tiny hat won't fit Wink).

cinnamongreyhound · 10/10/2014 21:24

I think it depends what you want from it. Do you need one that folds small, one that goes from birth to 4 or one with different bits, all terrain. I personally don't like travel systems, I use a rear facing permenant car seat that can then be turned around when older so last longer. I also don't like prams so went for a pushchair that lays flat. I walk a lot in the forest with very sandy soil so went for a three wheeler too, a nightmare on the rare occasion I go on the bus though as its big! Hoping not to use it much though and stick to a sling :) I'll be 20+3 at mine BrixtonBunny

daholster · 10/10/2014 21:24

Another one shouting the praises of the the Uppababy Vista. Ours has been brilliant, love how it faces forward and back and lies flat too for naps. Big wheels make bumpy ground easier, it turns on a penny and has a huge basket compared to the others. Doesn't sound that important but oh it really is... Once you have a baby bag and a coat and then want to add shopping, you are glad for a huge basket! I have had a lot of jealous friends... Though we got it in bright orange (road safe, right?!) with a black frame and people either love it or hate it!

The people I have met with the Stokke have been a bit disappointed... Small basket and can be a bit of,a bumpy ride, also kiddies seem to,grow out of it quickly, if I remember correctly. It's very expensive if it's not right. We considered it because it's nice and high (my dh is tall) but it was bulky and felt a bit unstable to us with all it's height. Having said that, we love our stokke high chair - will last til dd is 6 or 7 and we love her eating at the table with us. We got it off eBay. We will get another for dc2.

I bought our first baby thing at 29 weeks, hoping that if it did appear early it would have a fighting chance. As it was, "it" was "she" and she arrived at 39+5!

Stuntman · 10/10/2014 21:24

Squatting afaik the advice on getting a new mattress was only for if you were getting a cot from a different family, there's no added risk putting a sibling on the same mattress.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/10/2014 21:31

Mines a maxicosi Mura but I got it second hand, it doesn't have a massive basket but I have a mummy clip for bags :)

BrixtonBunny · 10/10/2014 21:33

Cinnamon that's the problem - I just have no idea what we'll even need! Am planning on using a sling for the most part at the beginning anyway. Will have to go and have a nose around John Lewis and see them all in the flesh I think! Living in London I guess we'll want something that's travel friendly.

Daholster you're making it sound very appealing - have definitely bookmarked it as one to try... Smile

BrixtonBunny · 10/10/2014 21:35

Ooh cinnamon that looks very snug and sturdy - another one to go and check out I think! Smile

phryn! Huge congrats and all good wishes to you Smile

Also lovely news on the scans of the past few days!

Cinnamon - I agree re the talk of money! Would be lovely to be able to buy the best of everything, but money isn't everything Smile And luckily I have a relative who works at Mothercare so some lovely discounts coming our way! Hurrah!

I've been recommended the Silver Cross Wayfarer, although plenty of time to decide what to go for. All we have bought so far is a Moses basket, swing chair and playmat, and they were courtesy of Mr Clubcard! Grin

Brixton I get a very similar mat package to you, so it'll be 9 months off for me and then back to work part time! Grin SO EXCITING!

Siarie · 11/10/2014 15:34

Not doing the Moses basket, going to go for this swing instead. hushamok.com/collections/ourcollection

It mimics the womb and apparently means babies sleep for longer. Which makes sense as they are used to movement while sleeping. Plus you can disassemble it for travelling! Will also look great in our modern apartment.

I think prams/travel systems are specific to people, certain ones work better for different families and their style. I don't intend to use my stroller as a shopping cart so I'm looking for something I can adjust to my height (I'm tall) and I can interact with the baby easily. But also it's great there are so many good options whatever you budget, I remember my mum pram those old fashioned huge inflexible contraptions! Things have come a long way

mswibble · 11/10/2014 15:58

rusty ive bought nothing! Feeling very overwhelmed by everything to be honest. But I have beem eyeing up the Cosatto Giggle, seems to have everything I want, if I add on the car seat, and I love the prints! Found them for around £350 so not too ridiculous a price.
I really want one of those glider chairs for feeding but it will be a second hand one. Already scouring eBay.

BrixtonBunny · 11/10/2014 16:15

I'm not sure if we should get a Moses basket / hammock etc as was hoping to get a crib / cot which could be adjusted to the same height as our bed so we could co-sleep with baby. Is there a benefit of putting baby in a Moses basket at the beginning? Do they sleep better? I just have no idea!

14 + 3 x

BrixtonBunny · 11/10/2014 16:22

Update - looking online, it seems like people suggest crib for bedroom, but a Moses basket for using in the rest of the house for when baby naps so you can be close by. Does that sound about right? Or are they a waste of money because babies grow out of them in a few months?

AnniaFausta · 11/10/2014 16:24

mswibble We haven't bought anything either, not even maternity clothes! I've got my eye on a bedside cot for co-sleeping, not a Moses basket, which I plan to hold on to for future babies and pass around my siblings should they require it (it's the Snuzpod), and I'm going to delegate the choice of a pram to my parents (as in, they will pick three options and we'll pick which one works best) because that'll keep my dad involved and give him something to do. (My mum thinks this is a brilliant idea.)

Mind you, when I told my SiL, she immediately declared her intention to go into baby shops and buy adorable tiny clothes, so I may end up with things I don't yet know about.

I don't think I really want to start buying things until we've got the nursery redecorated, and given how slow we're being to even start talking about logistics for that, I think it's going to be a while...

cinnamongreyhound · 11/10/2014 16:45

I love my chair mswibble, with ds1 I used to go down to the sofa to do night feeds and when I had ds2 and knew I was going back to work quickly I wanted a chair to be comfy during the night and I was winter with ds2. Mine was £60 with a foot stool too and dh picked it up on his way home from work.

Mine had a bouncy chair for napping in the living room with me but I tried to get them into napping in their cots quit quickly and they went straight into their cots for night time. They had grobags so quite snuggly but neither liked being swaddled. Ds2 likes having something next to his face so I started giving him a Muslin square to sleep with, as is breathable and he still has his mussy for sleeping now at 4 :)

Stuntman · 11/10/2014 18:07

Brixton if you're getting a sling from John Lewis I recommend the Ergobaby or the Close Caboo, or possibly both! DO NOT BUY A BABYBJORN! I saw a poor little baby in one today facing out from her daddy with her legs dangling unsupported and her arms and legs all jiggling because she was totally overstimulated. The guy probably wondered why I was staring at him but I felt so sorry for the baby. Compare that to a child in a proper carrier that can snuggle up to their mummy or daddy when they need a break from the stimulation, or they can go in a hip or back carry and have a clear view of their surroundings but still in a safe way.

Lauren82000 · 11/10/2014 18:16

Brixton we did the crib in our bedroom and a Moses basket downstairs till she grew out of the basket. Was easier for us but I suppose not for everyone. My crib was a family heirloom and the basket was my sisters that I borrowed. If you can borrow I would do and then you can have both. If you do end up buying stuff like that don't forget you can lend it out and eventually sell it when your done with it. They always make you a bit if money if you look after it.

Forgotten who mentioned the glider. I got a cheap bouncy chair from asda (don't think it was really supposed to bounce but it did) as I couldn't justify spending money on a glider even a second hand one. I ended up breast feeding for 14 months so I really should of invested in one as the cushion part gave up after about 6 months and I had to sit on several pillows so it didn't feel like I was sat on a cheese wire. Confused Although this may be the last baby for us I think I will actually get one this time it's worth it if your going to breastfeed for a long time. Plus handy for story time and if your little one decides they want you in the room till they fall asleep. Somewhere comfy to sit. Smile

Rustyzilla · 11/10/2014 18:17

We got the Moses basket mainly for day sleeping in our lounge. I am planning to get a co-sleeper cot for our room, my sister recommended that over a crib as assuming I am successful at breast feeding it will make night feeds much easier. Her crib was lovely, but meant getting up and down all night when baby was crying.

Today my mum bought me a little blanket with giraffes on, really soft and snuggly! I assumed that was her first purchase but she just told me she has already bought a few baby vests etc Smile Nanny loves to spoil her grandchildren!

FizzyBubbly · 11/10/2014 18:19

Afternoon all! On the subject of prams, what are those of you who already have DC doing? MIL very generously bought us a Bugaboo Chameleon for DD which I absolutely love, but I'm thinking DD (who'll be exactly 2yrs old) won't suit a buggy board (she's a bolter and needs restraining) so we're thinking we might need a double. Didn't use a sling at all last time (had a Baby Bjorne and agree re uncomfy baby!) so wondering if a sling for new baby and DD in her buggy?

Those of you thinking of glider chairs, we got ours off Kiddicare for £99, usually a bit more but they run that offer all the time

Sling wise I thoroughly recommend a Kari me wrap. I used for ds2 as I had two mindees in my double and 3 1/2yr old ds1 walking or on buggy board. He ended up hating the pushchair until he was quite big and if we were going somewhere that wasn't great for a pushchair I put him on my back until about 18months :)

Agree with Lauren82000, ds's and I often squeeze onto my feeding chair in ds2's room for story time :)

dancestomyowntune · 11/10/2014 19:10

I have a family heirloom crib but have always used a Moses basket too. When dd1 was tiny she would sleep in the Moses basket inside the crib, as she seemed to feel safer in the basket for some reason.

Also, because I have quite tiny babies they seem to still be in the Moses basket at about 6months!!! In fact dd 2 was still in the Moses basket at about 9 months.

BonjourMinou · 11/10/2014 20:00

Lol I've got a babybjorn and DD loves it!! I don't use it all the time, it's just handy to have to pop out with from time to time. Am considering an African-style wrap one for when the new one is small but not sure if will be able to use any at all for the first 6 weeks post section.

I am also dithering between bedside crib like a snuzpod and re-using the moses basket. Had a nightmare using the moses basket last time, everytime I put DD down in it asleep her eyes would open, was incredibly frustrating!

Will also need a double buggy, not a side-by-side one as our house isn't big enough, would have to be one on top of the other. Does anyone have any recommendations? x
